We googled ‘cheap eats near me’ and came across this absolute gem, ‘Aspro Alogo’ (white horse). Cheap and cheerful, delicious meals. The best tomatoes I’ve ever tasted (I don’t think anyone does vine-ripened like these back in Australia). Fried sardines were spectacular as well.

Found this place yesterday by chance and decided to give it a try. I definitely recommend it %100. The attention from the gentleman here is simply amazing, I ordered some moussaka and also got some traditional bread as a treat and after the main dish some ouzo. How great is that? Definitely recommend coming here if you want a taste of traditional Greek food and great hospitality. Prices are on the cheap side, I ordered two dishes (moussaka and fried anchovies) with some wine and paid 15 euros. Would be definitely coming here again before leaving Greece.

We choosed this place to have dinner because from the feedback written seemed to be a good option. Quiet place, tasty food... But the experience of being there was absolutely amazing. Much more than the description of any comment written... We found out two amazing people, full of good energy, humble, funny and with a great will to make every costumer happy and feel at home. Of course the food was also full of this authenticity made by people like them... At the end the man that served us offered a drink and a little piece of a sweet I forgot to ask the name. I really recommend it because, in fact, that people deserve to be known 🙂

What a great find on our first day in Athens. Very friendly, great food and a good price. They may even treat you to a little extra!! The decor could easily make you walk past, but i highly recommend you don't.

I could do a presentation on why this place is my favourite. I came here the first day I got to Athens - had the Greek salad (so delicious) and moussaka (also so delicious). Then, I got complimentary fresh hot pita, cake, a shot, juice, AND a water bottle to go. I pay 14,70 with tip!! While it was so delicious, the best part was Marco. He was doing it all - serving, cooking, seating, cleaning - you name it. But while doing all that, he was still so so kind. I told him I’d come back and see him tomorrow, and that’s just what I did. Today I had taramasalata and octopus in wine sauce. Again, complimentary pita (I can’t describe enough how delicious it is), a shot, juice, bottle water to go. And of course - cake - the last piece that he saved for “my friend”. ❤️ Go here. It may not look like much - and don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot. But don’t judge it. If you want authentic food and to meet one of the nicest men ever, come here. Look past the hand written menu and scattered chairs and the fact that you’ll probably have to walk in and grab his attention (because he’s literally cooking the food) in order to sit. It’s sooooo worth it.

By far, the best restaurant in Athens. You can eat local foods cooked with heart. The prices are so reasonable. Marco and his wife welcome you with open arms and take care of you. We’ll come back here for sure ! Thanks Marco :)

The food was delicious. This hole in the wall spot is exactly what I look for when I look for great food. It did not disappoint. The waiter and chef do it all, and they are so kind. Definitely come here for excellent and affordable food in Athens!!

This spot is very good for lunch. The offerings are traditional and tasty. The man and woman are very friendly and quick to help suggest anything. I recommend their moussaka and vine leaf wraps (dolmas). Most dishes that came out of the small kitchen in the back looked appetizing. The prices are very reasonable as well. It is an intimate setting with about 4 tables inside and 3 small tables outside. Try to head there right before or right after the typical lunch times.

Authentic small Greek restaurant with delicious food and a very friendly and charismatic waiter running around trying to serve all gusts. This is not a fancy restaurant but authentic and definitely worth a visit. It’s something special.

I was in Athens for 24 hours and I came to Aspro Alogo TWICE. This place is an absolute treasure, and Marco is a legend. The food was incredible and so fresh. The restaurant is so cute, but it’s the service and the quality of food that steals the show. The prices! Unbelievably reasonable. This is an experience I will never forget and plan to continue returning for the rest of my life. Marco, I freaking love you!

If I were to judge this place just by the look, I wouldn't step in. But luckily it has pretty good reviews so I decided to give it a try. First, the service was experional. Our waiter spoke English very well and was able to accommodate our every request. And the food! It was excellent. Great salad, fantastic chicken, very refreshing beer. I highly recommend this place.

Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Friendly service, tasty food and inexpensive too! It is located down a side street with seating outside and inside. It’s a great place to have lunch or dinner. The food selection is broad, and the service was very friendly and approachable. Everything seemed to be made from scratch and was very tasty.

We've visited the place today during our sightseeing. Despite the look of the place, we've decided to give it a try, and we were not disappointed at all. The gentleman serving us was very friendly, kind, and helpful. The food was served quickly, and it was delicious. After food, we were treated with sweets and shoots of juice. Upon leaving, we were given a bottle of still water. I would encourage people to give it a try.

I can only highly recommend this place! The food is delicious and inexpensive. The place is small and rustic, not the classic tourist restaurant, and for me that is a plus. The gentleman at the restaurant is very friendly. I have been there twice and would gladly go back!

Humble establishment with affordable prices and a lone server but the best! Even with how busy he was, he made us bumbling tourists feel very welcome. We ordered fried fish and octopus in wine sauce, came with complimentary pita. Never liked octopus but this dish is absolutely wonderful and a must try! Perfect and made us want seconds. There was a massive line when we were done eating so do come early! We will come again.

Restaurant Review: 2/10 The service at this restaurant is excellent. The owners are friendly and welcoming, and they go out of their way to make sure that their guests have a good experience. However, the food is very disappointing. It is bland and uninspired, and it is clear that the restaurant is more interested in selling tourists a romantic experience than in serving them good food. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are many other restaurants in Athens that serve much better food, and at a lower price. Here are some general comments about the food: * The food was bland and uninspired. * The fried shrimp dish was decent, but the eggplant salad and fried fish were both poor. * The fried fish was un-gutted and had no seasoning, which made it inedible. Overall, I was very disappointed with the food at this restaurant. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Rustic diner ran by an elderly couple. Food comes fast. Owner sends out complimentary dessert and gives free mineral water at the end of the meal before we leave which is very sweet of them. We came here twice throughout our 5 days stay in Athens.

We stumbled across this place while exploring Athens. In a maze of alleyways, their facade spilled gently into the street. It was a great place to grab lunch and dine outside on a quiet street. There is one man who seats, takes order, and brings out food. Despite there being one person for three jobs he did an amazing job at making sure we got our order and food in a timely manner. As a foreigner, I can’t say if it was the best Greek food, but it was exceptional compared to anything else I could get in the states. I’m pleased that we came across this place and if you’re in the area I’d recommend going here. The plating was lovely and it reflected in the flavors and food presented. On top of that, they gave us this amazing halvah and juice for dessert (on the house!). So, if you’re looking for a restaurant run by an authentic, hardworking, hospitable Greek man this is the place to go.

Everything here was delicious and amazing and I can’t recommend it enough!!! The man here runs everything on the outdoors, and the woman in the back cooks EVERYTHING. It’s a two person system that works extremely efficiently even though it’s just two people! The food. Where do I begin! The dolmas were delicious and my husband greatly enjoyed the grilled squid. I loved my grilled sea bream and all the accoutrements that came with it. Highly recommend this restaurant, at the end he even gave us free dessert, free shots of juice, and free water bottles to take home!

I would be very glad to share 10 stars for this gem of a place. The gentle couple who owns this place are very down to earth and cook the food themselves. Mr Michael was really polite to us all the time and gave us a lot of delicacies on the house which we are so thankful for. Almost everyone who dined there paid so much compliments for the smashing food. We were so elated at the quality of service and most importantly the deliciousness of the food. It’s so amazing to find such brilliant people who put in so much of love in the food and yet price it so cheap on comparison to others. The red wine was on another level of deliciousness. This place caters the needs of vegetarians and we never had trouble in picking out the menu. This is truly a wonder find and I would happily go back there anytime of the day.

The restaurant looks old, hence I was a bit reluctant to enter it at first. However, this turns out to be the most authentic Greek culinary experience I have had during my one week of travelling around the country. Fresh food at a very cheap price and the amazing services offered by the host!

This is definitely a hidden gem!!! We went on a Sunday afternoon, it was busy, we got the only vacant table.... lucky us!! Many tourists were visiting here! We ordered the chicken souvlaki which was 3 skewers (kabobs), which came with pita bread, fries and a small salad. The food was excellent! Also ordered a half liter of wine... total was 11.50€. At the end we were given a piece of dessert and a shot of some type of liquor that tasted like peaches. The owner was the waiter and did a fantastic job! Highly recommend this restaurant!!

We searched for Gyros on Google, walked there, saw the place and wanted to leave because of the looks, but a nice family convinced us to stay by saying: “Stay! Believe us! The food is worth it.” And they were right. You get good simple authentic Greek food by a quick, friendly old man. We had two house salads (basically a big Greek salad), two gyros platters with Tzaziki, Fries, Mixed Gyros and two big beers for around 30 Euros and got free desert and shot. Thank you for the authentic experience!

Very pleasant home-run Greek restaurant. Expect service to be slow paced (not a bad thing, but don't expect a quick meal). They didn't have much of the seafood available when I went on Wed for dinner but the grilled squid was nice. I'd recommended the eggplant salad. The Greek salad was average.

Such an amazing cheap and local food. Octopus was amazing which was under 10 euros !! I thinks this place was the only restaurant near Plaka that had near local pricing. The place gets quite busy at dinner time and only one waiter but it really worth all the wait. Such a friendly waiter and chef. The place does get quite hot but the food comes quickly and he even gave us a free water bottle. Two of us had 3starters and 2 main which came under 31euros. Really recommend this place and would say it was the best meal we had in Athens.

I ate here as a solo traveller on a budget and it far exceeded expectations! The food is incredibly cheap yet so flavourful, plus the portions are generous. I ordered a beer and a chicken plate (pictured) which came to €11. Bargain! I was also offered a water bottle and dessert free of charge which was very kind. The owner is very friendly and kind, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a meal in Athens!

It’s a humble Greek restaurant in Athens with affordable food. It’s one of the cheapest places in the center of Athens. We ordered pork souvlaki, fried cod, fried calamari, octopus in wine sauce. Half liter of wine, in a small pitcher is priced at €3,50 only. Good Greek hospitality at its best. Some free treats as well like a bite of dessert and shots orange juice plus a take away bottle of water.

Nestled amidst bustling streets of Athens, Aspro Alogo exudes warmth and authenticity. Operated by a family, the restaurant embodies the essence of papa-mama style dining. The menu showcases the chef's mastery of traditional recipes, with each dish a testament to freshness and quality. The flavors are bold yet balanced, creating an explosion of taste sensations. Despite culinary excellence, the price remains refreshingly affordable. This hidden gem is an embodiment of the family's passion for food and their dedication to creating a warm and welcoming dining experience. An authentic taste of home-cooked goodness awaits. Highly highly recommended!

Disappointed I walked 15 mins from my hotel to get to this restaurant, and left my plate full. Because of the reviews here I was inclined to try it out. At first the restaurant itself looked run down. The decor was shambolic. And you didn’t really know if it was open or closed. The guy working there was very hospitable and welcomed me in which made me think not to judge a book by its cover. I chose the Greek salad and chicken skews (or whatever it’s called). I must stress again, The place made the ghetto look like paradise. Awful When the Greek salad came with some bread it looked good but tasted mediocre. Tomatoes were bigger than usual and the cheese was just slapped on the salad. I gave it a 2.5 out of 5 because it tasted fresh. Then came the chicken skews. I took one but and then just left the 3 skews as they are. When he asked me why I didn’t eat them I said they weren’t what I expected. They weren’t cooked well and weren’t tender either. But I was happy to pay the €15 odd euro for my meal and the staff did give me a small sweet dish complimentary at the end. A bit harsh but I couldn’t justify giving it a 3. And to make matters worse the guy working there (it was only 1 guy in his 50s/60s) told me it was packed just 5 mins ago. Anyone could see that was a lie. So 2* it is from me.

An absolute hidden gem! Extremely delicious home made food . We tried that grilled fish which was good . The dolma was really good that we ordered one more plate. The food were cheaper compared to other places in Athens and it’s highly recommended . The owner is really sweet that he gave us complimentary desert and free water bottles to carry in the end :) I feel this place deserves more recognition!

Oh. My. Goodness. Do not sleep on this restaurant! We came twice and found it closed, but based on the reviews (and it’s proximity to our accommodations) we kept coming back and it was WELL WORTH IT. The man in charge of the front of the house (I wish I had asked his name) was lovely and got us a table quickly, and the woman cooking in the back of the restaurant got the food out so fast! You can taste the love in everything, and this was by far the best meal we’ve had during the last two weeks we’ve been traveling through Greece. The moussaka and mixed souvlaki (pork and chicken) were amazing. These two mains along with two glasses of wine and fried calamari appetizer, and it came out to about 30 euro total. He also gave us dessert and water bottles to go! If this wasn’t our last meal in Greece we’d be back tomorrow!! THANK YOU!

Even though the service was amazing that makes you feel at home, very comfortable. Their food and their cleanliness can be better, is regular. The restaurant itself is a little bit messy. The owners were very friendly and lovely, they even gifted us 4 bottle of waters and something that seems like a dessert that was good.

There was a bit of a wait before we got a table, and then before we got served. But the owner of the restaurant was so sweet and the food was really great, so I’d say it was totally worth the wait. The house wine was really good as well! If you aren’t in a rush to go anywhere, I’d definitely recommend ☺️🫶

My partner and I went for dinner later in the evening and waited about 10 min. You could easily pass this place by as it's very small and not your typical dinner place but don't. The food was amazing and so affordable. Marco the owner and his wife who is the cook go above and beyond customer satisfaction. If your looking for fast service it's not the place but if your looking for authentic greek food then this is it. Marco even gives you a bottle of water when paying the bill and a couple shots of digestive drink and a dessert he makes himself .overall best food in Athens we had so far ..thank you Marco and wife 🥰

This tiny local place you would likely walk past if you didn’t know about it from Google reviews, it is inconspicuous. The place is family run and the food so wonderful, home style food with the freshest ingredients. We loved the Taramastu, tzatziki and pitta, the warm dolmades and olives and saganaki, the tomatoes served were particularly incredible. The meal ended with a delicious complimentary halva and refreshing shot glass of juice and a bottle of water to take away with us. We had such a lovely lunch, I would definitely go back!

Today was my last day in Athens and luckily I visited this restaurant with my boyfriend. We ordered Greek salad (they gave us pitas also) chicken souvlaki and juice (they gave us advice to try to mix juice). Everything was amazing, so delicious and big portions. If I had the chance, I would definitely visit again. Last, they gave us dessert and water ( both of them were free). Thank you! Everyone should try this place at least once. 🩷🩷🩷🩷

My first meal in Greece and it did not disappoint. The sea bream was incredibly fresh, meaty, and perfectly seasoned and fried. There was only one lady running the kitchen and front of house. She was very friendly and it was amazing to see her do everything by herself. Very nice touch with the complimentary shot of juice, sweets and bottle of water at the end of the meal. A great first impression of Greek cuisine and hospitality!

Definitely not a tourist trap. Don't be discouraged by the simple appearance. You will be greeted by Marco, the owner/cook/waiter, and his infinite niceness. The food is very good, and you will find some of the most traditional Greek dishes like Souvláki, among other options. Even though Marco was all alone when I went, he was able to do everything very quickly, so no long wait times at all. In the end, a small cake cube and a shot of Mastika to complete the experience. What a little Athenian gem!

The very best place to eat traditional Greek food and taste local cuisine in the centre of Athens. The owner is extremely friendly and hospitable. As soon as I come back to Athens, I'll definitely visit this place! Worth every euro we paid. BTW, it was of the most delicious and biggest Dorado fish (12€) I have ever tasted in Greece! P.S. Probably the most cost effective restaurant in the district. Octopus dish for only 8 euros. Fresh and tasty ! The chef knows how to balance the initial taste of seafood and the simplest but most effective ingredients, such as wine and olive oil etc. The octopus is perfectly cooked! I am coming back! The restaurant owner is very kind. He offered me dessert and bottled water.

(Translated by Google) It was the best Japanese must go here. It may be a little difficult to enter because it is located in the back of the street. However, the rice was very delicious. You can eat traditional Greek food. If you listen to it like a Japanese person, the amount is a little large, so I think it's better to order one item and make adjustments. Moussaka is the most delicious. And above all, the store manager was the best! He was very kind and served dessert as a service. It was a really nice shop, so I would like to go there again when Corona calms down. (Original) 最高でした Japanese must go here.

It does not looks as a great place to it, but it is! And it very authentic and even somehow cosy. You are served and cooked by the owner. Very friendly and a chef of street food. Simple, not expensive fresh and tasty foods just around the corner in expensive city center!

I recommend and even dare to say that a must-see place to eat :) (Original) Jedzenie jest boskie! Własciciej przemiły. Some of the tastiest Greek food I had in Athens and also the most affordable! I had vegetarian wraps and everything was made, served and run by the friendliest guy. I’ll definitely be back :)

Excellent service and great food, very tasty homemade dishes with an authentic flair and not touristic oriented with more than fair prices. The owner and cook have made the experience even more enjoyable, I’m very thankful for their hospitality.

All the clients are tourists (brought there by the high ratings, just like we were, I presume), but the place still has an air of authenticity, and you get good food at a decent price served by a hardworking man 😄

It was like going to your grandparents house for dinner, typically home cooked meals that were full of flavour and very reasonably priced. Run by an old gentleman working alone the night we went, it was a blast with our children even helping out. A must dining experience to have.

(Translated by Google) Over 1000 reviewers can't be wrong !!! Aaspro Alogo is a real musthave when visiting the Plaka neighborhood of Athens. You have to grit your teeth and enter a place that visually resembles the deep Polish People's Republic and Bareja's films. For 8 € an octopus, half a liter of local beer for ... 3.5 € (and Mythosa, Alpha and Fixy can hide while served Vergina) plus half a liter of wine, prawns, two starters .... € 35 for two people, and the bill ... € 30 ... For this nice owner and freebies: dessert (cake), digestive drink, juice to drink and half a liter bottles of water for the road. Oh yeah ... The octopus was delicious (the best I've had). The starters were interesting and were a taste discovery. And the drink ... Well ... As you can see, I did not fail to go to the store and stock up on Greek liqueurs, a product that I would not pay attention to if not for the last dinner in Greece. (Original) Ponad 1000 recenzentów nie może się mylić!!! Aaspro Alogo to prawdziwy musthave gdy ktoś odwiedza dzielnice Plaka w Atenach. Trzeba zacisnąć zęby i wejść do lokalu wizualnie przypominającemu głęboki PRL i filmy Barei. Przystawki ciekawe i stanowiły odkrycie smakowe. A drink... Cóż... Jak widać nie omieszkałem udać się do sklepu i zaopatrzyć się w greckie likierki, produkt na który nie zwrócił bym uwagi gdyby nie ta ostatnia kolacja w Grecji.

Family late lunch on the small street side terrace. Owner is super host and friendly and way more Greek (though not Greek) than all the actual Greek owners we have met on day 8 of our 28 day Greece vacation. Tasty. Nice portion. Service with a smile. Thank you for a very nice meal!

What a jewel right by Ermou and Syntagma square. Prices are incredible to neighbors' , food is delicious, and extremely friendly staff. This a no frills place. Owner offers you water, juice, and desserts in the end. If you like fancy and higher prices, just go down the street. For a wonderful experience in Athens, come here! What a terrific spot and I'm sure most will love Marc and Athina!

This place is a hidden gem! It’s on a quiet street near the center. We got two beers, Greek salad (which came with free pita bread), saganaki, grilled chicken, and sardines. Our total came out to €28 and we got a complimentary little dessert, waters, and shots. The waiter/owner was very kind and friendly. Overall, I would come here again.

Based on the good reviews, my wife and I visited this homely establishment run by a warm, kindly, and cute couple. It was our last day in Greece and we wanted a nice, quiet meal to wind down and end it off. And we were not disappointed! The grilled fish (sea bream) was fresh and nicely grilled, the tasty meat came right off and the skin was crispy. Really good stuff! The house salad was pretty standard though (akin to the typical Greek salad?) but in total the meal is one of the best value we’ve had (£20 for the two items) and when I made payment, the couple still gave us bottled water! I wished I had given some tips but I didn’t have much left on me as it was already our last day of our trip and I had only enough for a cab to the airport. 100% would recommend Aspro Alogo and would come back again if given the chance to!

Looks like typical Greek restaurants. Service is unfortunate again Greek , the food is good and they serve quite fast. Somehow the vibe is not there, small details which are missing. Without my company the atmosphere will be not the same.

Kind of shabby looking place, but the owner was very welcoming and it still felt relatively cozy! I think the food could’ve been better, but it was a nice cheaper option for those that just need some sustenance. Looks like the owner gives everyone bottled water and free dessert! I’m not complaining!

We arrived at 10PM at the restaurant. The owner welcome us with joy, even though it was the end of the night for him. He suggested some appetizers and they were great. We had Greek salad, some spicy cheese ( tzatziki) and Souvlaki for main course. They’re perfect and well served. At the end, we offered some typical desert with a cup of “vitamin”. We paid 41€ for 3 people. And “if you don’t have it you can pay 40€”. Please visit, it is worth it.
