Best sunset spot in athens if you want the Acropolis in your pictures. Don't worry about getting there. As soon as you are inside the park I randomly zigzagged my way uphill til I found it. Map doesn't show all the smaller ways. Anyway, it was already busy around the monument so I checked out a place a few steps down which was completely empty. Gorgeous view over Athens, incredible how massive this city spreads out.

If you want to get one of the best view of Acropolis and Athens for free, this is the place to go. During summer I would recommend going in the morning. Took my wife and 9 year old kid and the hike wasn’t that bad. You do have be in a good shape to make the hike. For me this is a must just for the view. The monument itself is not bad, but is not really the main reason to visit.

absolutely amazing piece of nature in the heart of central Athens. great for all ages to take chill walks or picnics as the hill is not steep at all and there are tons of spots with breathtaking views. of course the Akropolis view is remarkable, probably the best in the city. the park is well maintained, clean enough and close to central neighborhoods full of restaurants and such so perfect for a nice long walk before lunch/dinner. we absolutely loved our walk on this hill and wish we discovered it sooner on our vacation.

This whole park and monument are a lot better than 4 out of 6 top archeological sites. There is no entry fee, the park around is large and beautiful, the view to the acropolis is great, new roads are being made, and there are very few people who visit due to no commercial about it. If you have the time - I'd recommend it right after the Acropolis.

This is a nice walk and it also gives great views of the city from many different angles. It's also completely free unlike many other attractions in the city. Suggest you consider your footwear before visiting the top I would recommend boots or trainers as some of the footpaths are not great don't wear good footwear if you are worried about damaging them.

In short, the Philopappos Monument is an ancient Greek mausoleum dedicated to a prince, Epiphanes Philopappos, from the Kingdom of Commagene (a small kingdom somewhere in the Middle East). Located on Mouseion Hill in Athens. It is a nice walk especially at sunset.

I recently visited the Philopappos Monument and I have to say, I was absolutely blown away. This ancient monument is a true testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the ancient Greeks. The monument itself is a towering structure that commands attention and awe, and the views from the top are simply breathtaking. Not only is the monument itself stunning, but the surrounding park and hillside are also a joy to explore. The park is well-maintained and offers plenty of opportunities for picnics or just relaxing in the shade. And the hillside provides a perfect vantage point for taking in the beauty of Athens. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Philopappos Monument. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a beautiful spot to spend an afternoon, this monument is definitely worth the trip.

This monument has the best view in Athens. I would especially advice going at night. It's very safe, has great signal, and is simply gorgeous. Just make sure to have battery on your phone for the flashlight.

The Philopappos Monument is an absolute marvel and a testament to the rich history and artistry of Athens. Situated atop Philopappos Hill, this monument is a must-see for anyone exploring the city. The journey to the monument is an enjoyable hike, with well-maintained paths that lead you through the natural beauty of the hill. As you approach the monument, its grandeur becomes increasingly apparent. The architecture, a blend of Hellenistic and Roman styles, is truly impressive, and it stands as a timeless tribute to Gaius Julius Antiochus Philopappos. What sets this site apart is not just its historical significance but also the incredible views it offers. From the Philopappos Monument, you are treated to panoramic vistas of Athens that are simply breathtaking. The Acropolis and the Parthenon stand prominently on the skyline, making this spot a photographer's paradise, especially during the golden hours of sunrise or sunset. The monument's location also offers a sense of tranquility and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below. It's a place where you can reflect on history, admire the beauty of Athens, or simply find a peaceful moment to connect with nature. Visiting the Philopappos Monument is like stepping back in time while simultaneously embracing the modern city. It's a reminder of Athens' enduring legacy and its ability to seamlessly blend the old and the new. I highly recommend taking the time to explore the Philopappos Monument during your visit to Athens. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply seeking panoramic views that will leave you in awe, this site has it all. It's a true gem that enriches your understanding of Athens' cultural heritage and leaves you with a sense of wonder.

We sort of stumbled on this area by accident and were very glad we did. The monument on the top of the hill is pretty cool but the hike up, the view of Athens and the Acropolis should not be missed. Also, the surrounding area, the ancient road the small church at the bottom of the hill are all worth an afternoon stroll. Very cool!

One of the best places to see the whole picture of Athens city. But pay attention if you go there in the evening. There’s no light along the path, you have to use the flash light on your mobile phone to light up your way.

This was a very scenic hike!! The monument is located on the top of a hill just across from the Acropolis, one km or so as the crow flies. The hike itself is very pleasant and not too strenuous, winding through a forest of wild olive trees and occasional ancient ruins. Spectacular views of the Acropolis as well as the entire city of Athens abound, including the sea and the local islands. Just bring lots of drinking water with you. Fantastic place!

📍 The Filopappos Monument is an ancient Greek monument located on top of a hill in Athens, Greece. It was built in 114-116 AD in honor of Gaius Julius Antiochus Epiphanes Philopappos. 👁️👁️ It is famous for its stunning views of the Acropolis and the city of Athens. 🚶 To reach the Philopappos Monument, you can take a leisurely walk up the hill from the Acropolis or Monastiraki area. Alternatively, you can take the metro to the Acropolis station and then walk up the hill from there. Once you reach the monument, you can explore the surrounding park and take in the stunning views of the city. 📌 RECOMMENDATION: If you're planning to visit the Philopappos Monument in the evening, it's recommended to go earlier in the afternoon to ensure you have enough daylight to explore the park. There are no lights in the park, so it can be quite dark at night.

Gorgeous views from above. A little bit down the pathway is a great place for an amazing view of the acropolis as well. Though there is sometimes a line to take photos at that spot. The Hill and Monument of Filopappou in Athens: Filopappou (or Philopappou) Hill is a green area to the southwest of the Acropolis. It is a favorite promenade of the Athenians and there you can have great views of the Acropolis, the whole city of Athens and the Aegean Sea that surrounds Attica. You can access the trail via multiple points and it takes about 15 minutes to get to the monument. Background: In 115 AD, a monument dedicated to the exiled Roman Prince Gaius Julius Antichus Philopappos of Commagene (a region in ancient Armenia) was erected on top of the hill. After his exile, Philopappos was settled in Athens, became an Athenian citizen and held religious and civil offices. He was considered a great benefactor and was highly esteemed by the residents. The grave monument of Philopappos was constructed of marble from Mount Pentelikon, near Athens, and Mount Imittos, to the southeast of Athens.

Monument offers great views of the city and the Acropolis. It is a nice hike, and then on top isn't that crowded. Also, it is for free.

(Translated by Google) Great location in the center of Athens that will really take you on a journey. The road to the monument is not one. Many small paths, steps and paths in the pine trees give you the impression that you are not in the center of the capital. The view from the monument is unique. With the above, it is worth walking on the hill of Philopappos. There two hills in this city. It is the one that i prefer. It is lower then the other one, however, it is closer to the acropolis and you can take a 360 view here. Amazing. The other hill does not have this 360 view, but they have a restaurant. This place is also easier to reach. I believe that this place is a good spot to see the sunset or sunrise. After you have seen the Acropolis of Athens, take one of the cobbled walk ways that lead into this hill. It is a small but really picturesque trek. I will recommend to go up here later in the evening to catch some of the most breath taking views. You can see the Acropolis on end and then the setting sun and the see to the west. The little hillocks are pretty and make for a wonderful walk. Definite must do.
