This mountain is a paradise. So many paths to take and explore that are enough for a lifetime. A combination of rich nature, breathtaking views, and challenging pathways with cultural locations and hidden natural surprises in the less seen parts of the mountain (like caves!). Combine that with a great opportunity to do sports and meet awesome people that share your passion for nature. And in the end, if you reach the top, your prize is watching the entire Attica and feeling like an ancient Greek God!

if you are tired from people, city traffic noise, bad mood day, or just need in the middle of your day and in Athen's centre to refresh mind body and soul, have no second thought and no doubts. this is so unique and very well known but with ideally isolated spots, walking paths, wind green view to the saronic gulf Islands and so many more surprises to reveal.. one of the most valuable mountains in Attica because it is so close. fortunately this is a protected area and every visitor should respect nature and avoid the worst behaviour which is throwing garbage everywhere around. park's personel tries really heard. but this is not enough if we are not helping them to keep it untouched. this is something we have to consider honestly before we visit and leaving again this magical gift... enjoy respectfully... avoid rush hours (Sunday noon in a sunny day) and avoid all those who believe that hearing their music choice loudly is obligatory for anyone else nearby.. yes.. it happens every time.... sadly

The aesthetic forest, dominated by cypresses and pines, surrounds the Byzantine Monastery of Kaisariani. Mount Ymittos is a long, narrow mountain (total length 20 km) whose highest peak reaches 1,026 m. A steep gorge separates the northern and southern part of the mountain. Schist is the most commonly encountered rock on Northern Ymmitos, while areas of limestone exist on the south and west of the mountain. The annual rainfall ranges from 400 to 600 mm. Despite the gradual degradation suffered by the mountain’s ecosystem, a well-organized and well devised campaign for the conservation and restoration of Mount Ymmitos' natural environment can reverse the course of degradation. The mountain’s nature does not cease to fascinate with its biodiversity which exhibits a unique diversity for an area which lies so close to a large urban center.

Breatthtaking place just outside the Athens. You can reach it by a bus from Syntagma square - 224. Than expect a 1 hour hike to the monastery. However you will be able to walk for much longer if you want as there are many pathes all over there. We have met dozens of turtles on our way. The best time to visit is April and May as you will be stunned by the presence of flowers and herbs.

The forest is very very very high, you can see mountain lycabettus for example as a very tiny thing from there. You can reach the start point of it from Athens by bus, but there you should walk for hours to reach the top. I have been walking today for 6 hours to reach the top since I haven't a clear plan to reach. You MUST know the exact routes that you should take before you go. Its risky at night since there are no police nor security. In terms of animals, you will only see only the huge turtles which I am uploading a picture of it here. It is very nice to walk and climb until reaching the top, but the most important thing is to have a specific and clear plan for where to go. It is one of the best places to go in Athens :))

Beautiful place, close to the city, great for a quick walk but also for a whole day in the outdoors. Lovely trees, wild life, ideal for mountain bike, nice paths to walk full of surprises. Please take care of it! Do not spoil with litter, do not damage the trees, do not disturb the animals. Pick up after your dog!!

It took me roughly 3 hours to reach the highest peak but wow, was the view worth it! This is nature at it's finest. The hike was so peaceful and quiet and the trail was laid out nicely. Easy to find your way up to the top, and back down again. The wild tortise I saw near the monastery was a nice surprise. Great way to spend a Saturday morning. !

Excellent place for Hiking. Marvellous view of the Kaisariani woods, just a few minutes outside the centre of Athens. Quite crowded during weekends. Further improvement with signs should be done however, still is perfect.

Very pleasant place to walk, hike or relax in - just about within earshot of Athens city centre. Easily accessible on foot through the University campus.

Great place next to the city to trail run or mountain biking. Picnic area and accessible for not so "fit" people. I've been coming to this place for the past 33 years almost every week... immitos is our mountain, our sane place

Every week I run in the forest of Kesarianis. it is very nice and you have a feeling that you leave the routine of athens and it relaxes you .. in some places it has a very good view which you want to go again but in others there are cigarettes from irresponsible people who should be banned from entering the park. I suggest you visit it either as explorers or just for coffee in the Kalopoula.

You just have to go for a hike and enjoy the beauty of nature. If you are up for it, go up high and take in an amazing view of Athens.

One of the last "forests" near Athens city center, we can at least try to preserve it...

The most easily accessible forrest near to Athens, a true oasis for nature lovers. Dozens of footpaths to walk, some great landmarks like the monastery of Kaisariani, a place to enjoy simple food (Kalopoula), and a botanical garden are only a few of the experiences one may enjoy in Kaisariani. Highly reccomended if you are visiting Athens and you have an extra day to spend.

A wonderful walk in the forest, combined with a visit of the historic Kesariani monastery, all this close to the city center of Athens. Bonus a view over Athens, mount Lycabettus, the Acropolis, until Pireaus port.

Amazing forest! Make a pit stop at “kalopoula” for coffee or to grab a quick bite and stroll around the mountain trails. Nature at its best!

It was a nice hike and it was a nice experience a lot of people were taking their bikes with them. Highly recommend taking bikes with you and take your own coffee or tea. And you can have a nice pic nic too but pls take your garbage with you and don't throw it in the nature pleas.
