To avoid the crowds, go at sunrise. I had the entire rock to myself except for two others. The views are incredible and the historical significance more. It’s where the Apostle Paul preached on Acts 17.

Stopped here after my second trip to the Acropolis. It’s a great lookout spot for panoramic views of Athens. Be careful as the rocks are slippery as you climb to the top. Stop here at golden hour of the day for great pictures!

I came here at night and the view at night is so pretty. Even though it's dark just be careful and you'll be okay. It does get busy. Also there are no toilets around so make sure you go before you come here.

What a beautiful piece of history. Lovely monument. Only When you see the Monument and construction that’s when we realize the importance and hard work and grandness of this time relic

Beautiful view and cool from the winds despite no shade. A bit of a crowd but a great free experience. Please be careful on the rocks! Better to look dorky scrambling than taking a tumble on the smooth redish rock. There is also no barrier and the far part of the cliff has a steep drop.

Great view of the city, and of the Acropolis hill from the west - come during the afternoon hours so it is lit up! The entrance is free and the climb isn't difficult - however, be aware that the top is full of big rocks that were smoothed over time, and they are pretty slippery, so just watch out. The place isn't accessible for people in wheelchairs, as the only way up is over stairs. You can go to the Apostolou Pavlou street, which is a short distance away by walk. It seemed lively when i was there in June!

I usually dislike tourist spots but this is a rare exception to that rule. It’s got a great view of the city, breathtaking sunsets, and a pretty cool vantage point from where to see the Parthenon. The vibe here is also pretty chill and feels friendly and happy rather than bustly and crowded. Note: The rocks can be slippery so walk with a fair bit of caution.

Easily one of the best spots for views of the Acropolis and surrounding area. I'd recommend grippy shoes as those rocks are super slippery.

Great free spot to see whole Athens and closest mountain to Acropol. Beautiful views, recommend to visit on sunrise or sunset. Be careful because stones ar so slippery, with wrong shoes you can feel like on ice rink

Amazing place to check out and I highly recommend even if you're only in Athens for a couple of days! My husband and I took the marble path up to the Acropolis but once we saw the line, we decided instead just to visit the Areopagus Hill (right in front of the Acropolis and no charge to enjoy). We experienced a magical view of the city and enjoyed watching the city light up as the sun set. It also had an amazing view of the Acropolis. There's plenty of space to sit or walk around but the rocks are definitely slick so wear appropriate shoes! We were able to hike down a different path when leaving and it was all such a cool experience!

The hill is located right next to the entry to the Acropolis, it's free and you can go up right away. You'll have a nice view of the city and some parts of the Acropolis. The hill is heavily littered and partly covered in graffiti.

You'll get one of the most beautiful views of the Acropolis and the city of Athens (perfect for pictures and videos of the Acropolis from up close). The rocks on this hill are no joke - it's very easy to slip and fall so be very careful when getting on the rocks for that so-desired Instagram picture that we are all guilty of.

This is a free site and not much of a climb. You get a great view of the Acropolis with a different perspective and the Agora and the temple within it. Go in the morning to avoid heat as there is no shade. Just a short walk from Acropolis.

The Arepagus is associated with the spread of Christianity here in Greece when the Apostle Paul gave his speech from this hill. I will have to check the scriptural verses and add.

Beautiful spot on your trip to the Acropolis. The stones are sometimes slippery so be carefull! Many tourists are here to watch the beautiful sights and just relax. Downside to this is often many noises of people watching video's on speakerphone and calling very loudly. Also, sometimes people walk by trying to sell you stuff such as water and you can barely get rid of em. Those are all the downsides but it remains a beautiful spot. Must visit.

The place itself is nothing amazing, just a rock you can climb and get great views of Athens and the Acropolis. To me, a Christian, standing in the same place the Apostle Paul gave his speech to the Athenians was truly amazing. I felt the presence of God in my heart, and that is what made this truly amazing.

A rocky hill located not too far from the Acropolis. It appears to be a popular hang-out for the 20-some-year-old crowd at night. You do get some pretty nice views of the acropolis once you scramble up to the top of the rock formation. There are some enterprising vendors at the bottom peddling roast corn and hot dogs. Good for them!

Super amazing views. Go early in the morning to get a great shot and with no tourists if you want the peace of mind. It’s super pretty to watch the sunset. The buildings start to light up and makes everything look surreal. It’s like a fairytale. Highly recommend going here if you’re in Athens. Great photo opp!

Very nice sunset on Areopagus hill, just lots of other tourists having the same experience there kinda takes a bit of the magic away, but not too much! The view of the ruins after the sun had gone was also absolutely stunning! It's free to go up there too which is nice!

Was so amazed of the view. It's totally free and easy to climb up here. Imagined ourselves being on a mission together with Apostle Paul while he was preaching here. Amazing!

Amazing views of Athens and the Acropolis. Climb up is easy and straight forward. The rocks at the top and polished and very slippery so need to be careful especially with children, can be dangerous.

Go here by night. There are a lot of young people hanging out, understandably, since the view of Athens from this spot is just amazing. It is also right next to the Acropolis, giving you a great view of it.

Beautiful view from the top of the rock. You have a great view to the Acropolis but also the ancient Agora of Athens. Especially during sunset it is beautiful to see the sky from this hill. Also the view of the Acropolis is very nice from here. The hill you can enter for free, it is a bit rocky and might be hard to walk for old people.

It is a great place to watch the sun set over the Acropolis and the city of Athens. After the lights are turned on, the Acropolis looks stunning against a dark blue sky. A visit to the small hill is highly recommended, but be careful of the slippery rocks.

This is the place where Paul preached to the masses while he was in Athens. If you are here for the sunset, you’ll get a better view if you seat somewhere after the path way as there’ll be many standing on the pathway and blocking your view (see attached image) even tho you would be seating on a higher ground. The place isn’t as crowded as that in Oia, Santorini so you do not have to come too early to wait for the sunset.

You can go up this hill for free. You get a great view of the Acropolis and the city. The path is a bit slippery, and the stairs are narrow, so be careful when you go up to see it.

Amazing place to see the sunset over Athen. If you are looking for a place with nice view of the acropolis too, you should check out Philopappos Hill, which is very close and also easy to get to...

Don’t miss this on the way down from the Acropolis! Spectacular hill to watch the sunset from and meditate on in order to tap into the energy of this mysterious place filled with history. Enjoy 😉 ✨🙏✨💎✨

It is also known as the “Hill of Ares”. Great place to see the stunning landscape of the city and the Acropolis. It’s slippery and the walkway (staircase) is narrow. Be careful when you go up to check it out. The Areopagus (Arios Pagos) is a prominent rock outcropping located northwest of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, just to the right of the exit of the Acropolis ***Good to know*** Its English name is the Late Latin composite form of the Greek name Areios Pagos, translated "Hill of Ares" (Ancient Greek: Ἄρειος Πάγος).

An amazing viewpoint on Athens and the Acropolis 🤩 Put on some sneakers instead of sandals because you need to climb a bit and the rocks can be slippery. But the view is worth it!

  • 5/5 Ian M. 6 months ago on Google
Part of the historical area around the Acropolis. Christians note this site because of St Paul’s sermon here. There is a plaque with Paul’s words in Greek. There are pathways and walks around the hill that can take you to other key sites in the area. An enjoyable visit.

Right next to the Acropolis exit. Not that hard to climb up - just be careful of the slippery polished stones. We saw a few kids trip and fall when not watching

  • 5/5 Eric C. S. 2 years ago on Google
Nice View of the city...The Apostle Paul gave his sermons from atop this small hill.

After you see the Acropolis, be sure to stop at Areopagus Hill for a commanding view of the hill that is the Acropolis. This is a prime location to take iconic photos. It is a short side hike, so just do it. It has bad footing in a few areas, so if you have stability issues, this hill is not for you. There were only a few people here, which helped with picture taking.

  • 4/5 Andrea K. 2 years ago on Google
The hill was really close to the acropolis, and even, from one of the side they built stairs, but itt was pretty dangerous for kids and older peoples. The rock was slippery and the place was fully dirty with cigarette butt. People Need to be more carefull for them nature.

Wonderful view of Athens, the Acropolis, and the sea… and the best part is it’s free! The weather is beautiful and the wind blows nicely. It’s a great place to get a view of everything, though at a distance. It’s pretty crowded so don’t expect to find many places to get good photos by yourself, though.

  • 5/5 natalia w. 2 years ago on Google
Truly breathtaking. Try to go around 8 am and enter from the entrance near the acropolis museum and metro station, that way you see the slopes on the way up. Recommend getting the combined e-ticket if you are spending a few days in Athens. It gives quick access to the exhibits and it worth it if you plan on visiting several areas.

A beautiful hill overlooking Atgens and the Acropolis. Heaven!

  • 5/5 Kenney W. 11 months ago on Google
Incredible view of the city day or night (especially night). Completely free and open all hours, it’s the only other way to see Athens besides paying to go into the Acropolis. Because it’s public, there’s a fair amount of people hanging out but it doesn’t interfere with the view or experience at all.

  • 3/5 Jona Mae D. 9 months ago on Google
Can view the city from the hill.. Can see Acropolis as well, but it is so crowded when we got there.

Nice view on the Partenon. In late November really windy So bundle up. Nice place for sunset

  • 5/5 Kelley P. 11 months ago on Google
Really cool place to go watch the sunset and check out the Acropolis at night when it's all lit up. You can look out over the whole city from just a short walk through town. The rocks are very slippery on top bit there is a more gentle path that you can take. If you choose to climb over the rocks, watch your step.

  • 5/5 Stelios P. 2 years ago on Google

  • 5/5 C T. 1 year ago on Google
The Areopagus (Aries Hill) is a 115-meter-high rocky hill in the northwest part of the Acropolis which has a phenomenal view of Athens. It was the meeting place of the Supreme Council in the past. There is no entrance fee to visit this place. You should visit here during sundown. You can bring your food and drinks. I do not recommend you visit this place with children.

  • 5/5 Jochen H. 2 years ago on Google
Simply one of the greatest viewpoints in the city. Easily accessible just to the west of the Akropolis, Areopagus Hill offers stunning view over the entire city center.

  • 5/5 May B. 1 year ago on Google
There are lots of friendly cats in this area, please bring cat foods for their treats if you can :) also great view and great street music when you exit looking down the hill and walking down the Athens stairs.
