The Garden Arches, Aqueduct of San Sebastian, were built around the year 1570, during the reign of Dom Sebastian First. Its structure was built where an ancient Roman aqueduct existed. Their purpose was to supply the hill next to the High district, where later, in the 17th century, the Convent of Saint Anne was built. The Aqueduct is a kilometre long and it reaches 13 meters height at its highest point.

They are in very good condition, but don't carry water now.

The area in general is really nice with a lot of gardens and the university really close. The aqueduct is really long and well preserved.

You can't miss them if you visit the University or the botanical gardens. They are in very good condition and fit very well with the surroundings and the green on their back.

Nice aqueduct on the side of the street on the way to the botanical garden. Great to see it this integrated into the more modern times of the town.
