Truly one of the best meal experiences we’ve had in all of Portugal. Casa da Rua is run by a husband and wife team who immediately make you feel at home and like you are a special guest in their kitchen. Everything is fresh and made that day from the bread to the cheese sausage and jam. You can’t buy passion as they say, and it’s clear from moment you walk in this couple absolutely loves their job and you fall in love with them and what they make. I would give 6 stars if I could. The best meal to end our time in the Douro Valley.

The hospitality was amazing. Learning about the produce and how it's all either local or from a family farm was brilliant. The food was delicious, extremely reasonably priced too. Walking in on a Tuesday to a packed place is always a good sign. Thanks again for having us.

Great atmosphere, good music and friendly family business. The cheeses and cured meat are all locally sourced and they take a great pride in the quality and presentation of their food. We had a bottle of Don Vale red which complemented the meal perfectly.

This was one of our highlights in Portugal. My partner and I stumbled upon some sort of annual town festival right outside this restaurant so it was packed! The owner was incredibly gracious and asked us to wait for a table to open up. Our service was incredible, he took so much care and went into such detail about their dishes, it made me want to try absolutely everything! We ordered the charcuterie board, hamburger and a handle of sangria for both of us. There was truly nothing on that board that I didn’t like. The burger was SO GOOD. I’ve had my share of burgers, being from the states but this was NOT THAT. It was so tender and flavorful. I wish I would have gotten my own instead of splitting lol Honestly the owners made this experience as memorable as the food. I would come back in a heartbeat

Fantastic experience! The food was farm to table, and super tasty. The owners were so welcoming and friendly - definitely our favorite place that we visited thus far in Portugal. Bonus - you can get sangria in a watering can!!!

Wonderful experience! The owners are a lovely couple. We felt welcomed the minute we walked inside. We didn’t have a reservation, but luckily they had an open table. They literally customized our board to accommodate my vegetarian friend! Everything was fresh and delicious! The next time we are in Lamego, we will be back!!

Casa do Rua is possibly the best hidden gem for lunch in all of the Duoro Valley. I texted the owner months ago for a reservation and again on the day of our visit. He had the table waiting with our name on it. A small family run business, the owner and his wife run this very hip little shop in the central business district of Lamego. Decorated with modern pictures and a caricature of the owners, they play US adult alternative music from the 90’s and 2000’s. The cafe personifies hip with just enough tradition and the owner told us they worked in Spain which explains his small menu of tapas and specialty burgers. Bringing out a couture of a bread only made in the region and what looked like a small Portuguese Jamaican beef patty stuffed with delicious meat filling, the owner explained the menu choices thoroughly. Suggesting a tapa plate that included a gargantuan amount of tapas and our choice of one of eight burgers, he then suggested wine pairings from an extensive list and I tried my first Stout Super Bock beer. My wife enjoyed one of the only Portuguese red wines she’s liked. The tapa plate included three kinds of cheeses, cured meats that included chorizo, a type of prosciutto and cubes of cured black pork (a Portuguese specialty). It also had some bachalu with a fried egg, pumpkin jam, roasted peppers, sweet potato chips, a sauce that he recommended with the black pork, and several types of delicious bread and crostinis. We chose the burger with fig chutney, sun dried tomato, lettuce and manchego cheese and it was the first beef I’ve enjoyed the taste of since being in Portugal for ten days including the big cities. With no room for dessert or coffee, we thanked the owner for his great service and warm personality and he hoped we’d come back again which we will should we ever be in Lamego again. Given the limited seating, we recommend texting ahead for a reservation. Best hidden gem of our trip.

Truly excellent meal! Small menu of farm-to-table tapas, hamburgers, salads, and sangria. Trust Paulo and his recommendations, you won’t be sorry. We spent a week in Lisbon, dining at Eater and Michelin recommendations, and this surpassed all of them.

What a beautiful restaurant! This restaurant is owned by a couple who couldn’t be more charming and welcoming. The food was all amazing - and really prepared with love. We were lucky enough to get a table as a walk-in when we arrived in town tonight but it would be best to make a reservation.

We were visiting Lamego for a day trip. We stopped in here for lunch. The place had a great atmosphere, and the owner was very friendly and really set up the vibe for the place. We started with the tábua mista on his recommendation. This meat and cheese board was excellent. Would recommend if you like threes toss of starters. We all ordered hamburgers. We loved the fact that the bread was homemade. While I enjoyed the flavor of the hamburger, I would have preferred a "sturdier" bun and a firmer burger. We really enjoyed our visit and Paolo was awesome.

The best restaurant in Lamego! Food was amazing and the service exceptional! The owner (Paulo) was super friendly and explained to us the concept providing recommendations based on what we wanted to eat. We will definitely come back!

What an incredible place! Everything is amazing, and we had a great banquet. It's definitely worth a detour ;) The staff were very welcoming and explained us everything, advising us really well on what to choose. 90% of the ingredients are local (except the padron peppers) what makes the experience even better. Just be aware that the kitchen closes at 2pm for lunch, and the place is a bit small - so book a table in you can!

What an experience! My family and I went to this restaurant for lunch today and absolutely loved it. Paul & his wife are the owners and they were so incredibly hospitable and made us feel very welcome as tourists. The food is all farm to plate - Paul bought us an assortment of tapas and we loved it. The sangria is also fantastic! Would highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Prepare for a gastronomical delight! The husband and wife team are passionate about food and it shows through a modern Michelin experience beginning with an amuse-bouche of local flavors including soup, fresh bread and smoked ham. Trust your appetite to their recommendation and you are rewarded with an experience unlike most others. If you grew up in the late 80’s - early 90’s you’ll surly enjoy the background music. We are fans and will make an effort to return anytime we are in the area.

Pretty much incredible. An experience that I would recommend to everyone. The sangria was delicious and the house made bread of the burgers was also great. We requested a Tábua with all the local tapas, and everything tasted great. The owner was super kind, explaining everything and making this experience even greater. Also important to say that it is not an expensive restaurant. Everything is priced quite reasonably. Advice: Book a table before, as it is a small place and it is usually full.

😠 This place tried to scam us, but semi failed. Read on! But as they say… if you haven’t been scammed, you haven’t been on holiday. See photo for proof! Cue an English and a Chinese guy turning up, the restaurant hand us a menu in English. The prices seemed a little high for Portugal, so I asked for...
