The Pennsylvanian - JD Wetherspoon

Bar Pub

👍👍 A great 'spoons. One of my favourites, though they're all pretty good. Always a chance of meeting some old rock star in here, and certainly plenty of characters. People know each other and it feels safe. Food is excellent. Toilets are upstairs and not always up to scratch. Drinks are always very goo... People often mention good, staff, friendly, service, great, Great,

Now this is a really lovely little pub. Clean and tidy you walk into an open area with tables throughout. Walk past the steps to the toilets and the bar is on your left, booths on your right and tables down the centre. There is even a real fire in the wall to the right. The staff were friendly and polite although probably a little too busy to chat too much. The Guinness was excellent!

A great 'spoons. One of my favourites, though they're all pretty good. Always a chance of meeting some old rock star in here, and certainly plenty of characters. People know each other and it feels safe. Food is excellent. Toilets are upstairs and not always up to scratch. Drinks are always very good. There's also some interesting local history on the walls, so you can learn about Moor Park, and it gives the pub an established feel in this lovely village. Update 26/6/2023 been I'll be honest, the Thatcher's tastes a bit bleachy and I'm wondering how thoroughly the lines have been cleaned...

It's fine, standard 'Spoons, but it's one of the grubbiest places I've ever visited. The food's good, the beer's good, but the cleaners (if there are any) aren't doing anything. Carpets, woodwork, brightwork; dirty. Every corner dusty and every surface just a little bit sticky. Get some efficient cleaners in, please.

Pleasant surroundings. Was very full. At 19.30 they had run out if fish and chips and the 6oz burger was very average. Served with a quite small portion of chips and no salad or other trimmings. Burger King would have been better !! Service was quite quick considering how full they were and staff were pleasent, friendly and helpful. Pity the food wasn't up to the service !

I hate to give a bad review ... but I think that it's important to point out that the staff in this JDW are over-whelmed. I went there with my family on a Monday night. We were warned by one of the staff when we walked in that the wait time for food was 25 mins. That seemed strange because it didn't seem particularly busy with quite a few free tables, but we accepted what we were told. But, after waiting at the bar to order for more than 20 minutes, we finally gave up and left. The food looked pretty good, and the prices were reasonable, but the staff are quite simply, over-whelmed.

Not as good as usual , staff were rushed off their feet , Bristol supporters were in ,packed out . Beer was off , but they changed the pint . Food was Wetherspoons normal .

Typical Wetherspoons in a beautiful Rickmansworth high street, good food at great prices, always a friendly welcome to customers from all staff, clean toilet facilities, checked regularly.

Went for great value Brunch, sausage and egg muffin was perfect. Service was friendly, bar staff helpful and accommodating. My first time here in a few years… they took the time to explain the coffee self service refill which was helpful. Went in for a quick brekkie, ended up having a few pints too as the atmosphere and place was very relaxing. Will be coming back again soon.

Great pub and atmosphere! Usual Whetherspoons menu and drinks. People there made it really fun and it’s a nice environment. Would highly recommend! Food and drinks ordered via app. Drinks came over in 5 min. Food smoking hot in 10 min. 5/5!

Good Wetherspoon in Rickmansworth. Usual fayre and good prices although inflation is catching up with them just as it is with every other pub and restaurant. Staff were efficient and friendly as it was very busy at lunchtime, about 80% full I would judge. Overall, it is still recommended, and many other customers must agree judging by its popularity.

Good food although lots out of stock, but we have sat here absolutely freezing. Everyone in here have kept their coats on. Unfortunately spoilt our evening so didn't stay long!

Horrible attitude and service from Sara. Tried overcharging for food I am having there regularly and then arguing rudely. She needs a job at Karen’s diner, not at Wetherspoons damaging it’s reputation.

One of the nicest wetherspoons I've been in. Nice staff. Nice food. Very good.

Met our friends here for the evening, we've been here before. We had a light evening meal. I had ham, egg and chips which included a drink very good value. No doubt we'll be back.

Ordered from the Xmas menu which is always such good food for the money… the chips were undercooked and when the staff were informed a full refund of the meals was issued. Brilliant customer service!!

Cheap and cheerful as you would expect from a Spoons. A lot better atmosphere compared to the one in Watford town centre. Slightly disappointed to see no rocket or basil leaves on the vegan BBQ jackfruit pizza though.

    Great spoons. Service very good.

Really friendly, pleasant and helpful staff. Every single one of them. Great service and excellent food. Plus the usual great value for money you'd expect from Weatherspoon pubs. Why would anyone go to other pubs in the area? 10/10

Bog standard Spoons. Surprisingly dull Cask Ale selection of only Ales and IPAs. Nothing dark and no cask cider. Otherwise fine and friendly and great value for money.

Nice burgers and decent portions. Ordering is easy using the app and meals arrive quickly. Can recommend the fish and chips. Cooked well and lovely taste.

One if the nicest Wetherspoons we've visited on our football away trips. Very quick service, the food was HOT, which it usually isn't in most other Wethers, an excellent experience.

It smelt really bad, everywhere in there. Especially by the bar, not sure what was creating the smell but it was awful. Moved from one end of the restaurant to the front but it carried all the way through..needs a deep clean as it's really unpleasant.

Dropped in to meet others this morning for coffee. My expectations of the coffee were rock bottom. Pleasantly surprised at how good it was! The breakfast looked great too!

Great place to stop off and refresh yourself with good food and drinks to choose from at a very reasonable price. The only downside is that the toilets are upstairs like most Wetherspoon pubs

Visiting friends in Rickmansworth and chose this place to eat three times because it was so good. Had breakfast once and dinner twice. Everything was delivered promptly, freshly cooked and so hot we had to wait a few minutes to allow the food to cool. I absolutely recommend it.

Food served quickly and was fine. But it felt very sticky on tables and chairs, like the whole place could do with a deep clean. Friendly staff thou.

Sadly the manger has small man syndrome and bully’s everyone who crosses his path. This place is a dump, and he loves it! It’s his dump! God help anyone who has to deal with him; as a customer. Let alone having him speak down to you on the daily. Yikes!

Great run of the mill spoons. Friendly service with nice range of beers and screens between tables. Much better than the dark n dinghy coach n horses up the road

App failed to clear payments in PayPal and 1 bank. 4th attempt finally paid. Food looked good. But half was cold in arrival

Never visited before but very handy pre Theatre. Food was lovely. Very impressed. Just go early to get a table as packed at 6. Couldn't see anywhere else nearby so that's probably why. Young staff but on the ball. Would go again.

We visit regularly for either Breakfast or lunch, we always get a warm welcome from the staff. Peter the manager goes above and beyond very friendly always time to speak and runs it like a fine machine! we witnessed his caring nature with an elderly couple yesterday. Can't praise the team and the food enough.Thank you Ian and Julie
