Well, after going here with some friends I can definitely say that this pub is a mixed bag. The beer and drinks are great, but the food and service could use some improvement. We ordered a salad, halloumi chips, a beyond meat burger, and the chicken Katsu burger. The presentation was good but the plate was too big for the amount of food, the halloumi chips were good, but were a bit greasy and heavy on the stomach. The food overall was alright, but here is the main reason why I am only giving this pub 2/5; the attendants were rude and unhelpful, and I would’ve loved this place if it weren’t for the attitude I received from the servers. As for price, this restaurant is definitely on the more expensive side of things. Overall, if you are looking for a chill place to have a beer with your friends then I would definitely use recommend, but if you want a meal then you are better off going anywhere else in china town.

My favourite bar in the whole of London. I am so glad it survived the pandemic as I used to come here all the time pre pandemic. Fantastic selection of Belgian beers for me which are best in the world. Plus they had delirium red on tap this week. I have never seen delirium red on tap anywhere in the word besides Belgium so this was a huge plus. Absolutely fantastic service and great Belgian beers. If you love beer then this is the best pub in London full stop.

Great vibes at this standout pub bar cafe in Chinatown. Seems like tourists and locals all enjoy this quaint place. Tons of beer selection and good food as well. Will be back!

Immerse yourself with a bit of Dutch courage here and thereafter, a bowl of wonton noodles at a nearby Chinatown restaurant.

To feel like a Dutcman in London, you must come here. Great selection of Dutch snacks and artisan beers. This two level pub offers both mainstream pub atmosphere on lower and great intimate space on top floor. Beer is cold and bartender girl is hot and very professional, do not miss understood her gorgeous smile and red lipstick.

I'm kind of surprised that I'm giving De Hems a 5 as the food was a bit average - the beef stew was nice, and hearty - though had very minimal beef. However I am giving it a 5 as they have a very interesting beer choice in what is pretty much a good beer desert - so many scruffy Greene King/Nicholson kind of pubs in the area, so De Hems is a bit of a gem. Plus we could get seated in the evening after work, and it had air conditioning on a fairly hot day. Very welcoming staff too. Will be back. Will probably become my pre-theatre drinks spot.

When we arrived, it was clear that food is not what most customers come for. We were looking forward to enjoying some sorely-missed Dutch cuisine and were excited to see the familiar option they had on the menu. But the results were a cheap (expensive!) imitation of actual Dutch food. The food was tasty enough but it just wasn't the same.

My company booked an area upstairs for our Christmas Party 11/1/2020. The process of booking and the communication back and forth was very easy. We ordered off the buffet menu and the food was great. Catered for the vegans and vegetarians amongst us as well as the meat eaters. Lots of choice for drinks as well, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Managed my tab well and kept me updated as we approached my limit, and made sure we didn't spend beyond that amount accidentally. I would definitely recommend De Hems work work parties as they handled our booking and requirements really well.

They were objectively racist. I have never written a review, but at a belgian pub, i was refused drinks (as is their right) without any clear reason (if you are passed out or throwing up you should be refused), but lucid it is shocking

Cozy dutch pub. Good location for exploring London Often use this pub as a meeting point or start point when in London. Excellent section of lagers and 2 different menus available one of which is of course dutch. Only ever eaten the Bitterballen here which I found pretty good and close to the ones I've had in Holland. Staff polite, professional and attentive. Definitely worth a visit.

Great place. Like being in a bar in Europe with the authentic decor and hundreds of beer bottles. Excellent selection of beers and overall great atmosphere and ambience. Highly recommend.

We went out of our way to come to De Hems. The beer selection is excellent and the staff very knowledgeable and friendly. I was amazed to see a Brouwerij T'Ij IPA on tap! Unfortunately on the Sat we went there was football showing. I was looking forward to a brown bar vibe, but it was all chanting and stamping feet. I hope to visit again and experience the proper atmosphere other reviewers share.

Great place! The staff is helpful and they fill up the place with positive energy. Me and my friends found this place by accident but thanks to Shirley I’m sure we’ll make this place our favourite meet up point! Great location to start or end your day/evening with. I would definitely recommend the place and I’m sure I’ll be back there soon with my friends ❤️

Great Dutch pub near Chinatown. Huge selection of beers from The Netherlands and Belgium which the very friendly staff are happy to let you taste before you choose. Excellent food - the sharing platter is perfect to accompany these fine beers. Highly recommended.

I've given it 5 stars because of the lively and robust atmosphere plus the Dutch and Belgian beer. Can't comment on the food. The location is ideal as a central point to launch in to Soho or central London.

Love this bar, been going every now a d then over the last 15 years. Great atmosphere and really cool place. Either sitting outside watching people go by or tucked away upstairs. Food is really good and you get to try some Dutch specialities. But the beer is the real high point so much variety and choice and all really tasty served by friendly happy staff.

Great selection of beer from The Netherlands and Belgium. Pub has the feel of a brown cafe from Antwerp in Belgium.

An under-appreciated gem in the city!! We’re here at least once every 1-2 weeks! If you asked me to recommend something similar in central London, there really isn’t any anything even nearly comparable - really can’t say the same about another pub in town (they’re independent too and not own by the big 3 operators like literally every single pub sadly). Get in on this place if you’re a fan of craft and unique beer offering, even rotating the tap with real Belgian and Dutch selection frequently, a lot of effort to keep the venue clean and well maintained, nice friendly staff, really chill owner but for me at least - most of all, the cutest GOODEST boy of a German Shepherd. He’s a cuddly and sometimes sleepy friendly super giant and an absolute show stealer!! 🦮 We found the place because my boyfriend needed somewhere to wait for me to finish some shopping after we grab lunch in Chinatown. But then we started to use Chinatown as an excuse to just be at this pub, sometimes skipping the food and shopping in altogether and just settling in instead 😂 Side note - they play all the big games with sound (not music), just ask the staff for schedule even when it’s not published they have it behind the bar.

Sports bar in Chinatown with a big selection of Belgian beers (but not Hoegaarden). Shows sport like f1, rugby, football…good atmosphere and obviously close to a lot of decent places to get some food afterwards. Definitely London prices though - £8-9 a pint.

Lovely pub right on the edge of Chinatown. Nice large upstairs bar with large screen showing sporting events. Downstairs bar is cozy. We ordered the Frickandellen Speciaal, the Kroketten, a side of Bitterballen and two pints of Heineken, which came to just over £40. Food was really good. Good sized portions too. Will definitely be back!

Cool place, great vibe, fantastic selection of Dutch and Belgian Beers. Also serve food. It's a shame they only have ONE non-alcoholic beer in the whole place, and even that is not Dutch. Please consider increasing your selection for those of us driving!

Very lovely place. Amazing selection of Dutch drinks. But a bit crowded and no table service. You have to go to the bar every time you want to order. And I wish they had a smoking area.

Loved this pub, Belgium beers are my absolute fave and this bar does not dissapoint. Lots of different beers to choose from both on tap and bottles. Been popping in here from time to time for the last 25 odd years. Today I tried the food for the first time and boy have I been missing out. Beef and ale stew with chips Dutch style (you know I can't spell its name).Tasty and comforting on a rainy day. The beer was flawless and at around 9% as usual. Seriously if you like beer this is a place to be, they even have lambic even if it is for the price you would expect.

Abrupt and seemingly grumpy hostess who rolled her eyes at a potential customer at the door in view of other customers. Forced service by 3 different staff members despite asking for more time because we weren’t sure we actually wanted to stay... we asked for a minute three times. Basically no cheese on mediocre, yet expensive nachos. Was told that we would get extra guacamole in replacement for the lack of sour cream, but there was only a small dollop in the middle that basically tasted like puréed lime, so I’m actually glad we didn’t get more. We were put on a table next to the doorway to the toilets despite an almost entirely empty bar area with much better/nicer seats available. A hastily dumped card machine with no bill- just an amount on a screen was delivered with our drinks. Zero words spoken, just an expectation of payment for food and drink yet to be received. Was recommended this place by a friend, but honestly by the time we were leaving I was just so irritated and unhappy at having spent money on an unpleasant and unsatisfactory 45 minutes that I won’t get back.

(Translated by Google) Previously, very wonderful service and staff, ... yesterday, together with my family, we decided to spend the evening with a glass of Belgian beer, but after the woman, who introduced herself as a manager and arranged a visit in accordance with the new rules, decided to ask my daughter's ID ( 21), to which my daughter presented a driver's license with a photo, name and full date of birth. The so-called manager considered it insufficient and demanded a passport. Naturally, they usually don't carry a passport with them and our family was denied service! Despite this inappropriate behavior of the staff, we spent a wonderful evening, but in a completely different pub ....

This is a pub that throngs when Holland are playing football , great atmosphere and a great looking building in a dutch style. But, Holland don't play all the time and in recent years this pub has gone to seed. Needs a refurb throughout, it has reached that point where it is just shabby enough that you might stay for a quick one and go. I'm sure it will be fixed as it deserves the love.

They had the strawberry bear which I fell in love with, the best one I have ever had, my friend introduced me to this place, on the day we went because there was a game happening it did not have a lot of chairs and tables to sit down and drink and because I was wearing heels in the end it became uncomfortable and we had to keep changing our positions due to where the tills were and moving around which was a bit annoying but the drinks, I tried a few others with the elephant and loved every single one of them, I will come back for more.

I really loved this place and have been a frequenter for about 5 years now. People whom you now have working at the door who are in an amazingly unfriendly manner asking you whether you have a reservation in an empty pub and then telling you to get out are just terrible. I know that you have "regulations" but try making them work in a way that doesnt make you lose regular customers.

I've enjoyed going to De Hems for a few years now; was introduced by a friend and it's always a great meeting place with fantastic beers. Went for the first time in about two years at the weekend and had booked a table but got caught up in the most horrendous tube delays and missed our booking. I was so disappointed because we'd been shielding and it was first night out in ages, and the staff did everything they could to accommodate us. The table had been taken (understandably) but the staff really tried to help and when the table became free they came and got us, which was so kind. They went above and beyond and I really was so grateful. Always been a cosy pub but the great service just took it to another level.

I live in the Netherlands and visited De Hems for a taste of home. The beers on draft didn’t disappoint but “because of Brexit”, according to the waiters, there isn’t much else Dutch on offer in the bar. The shots were incredibly expensive but all in all there was a great atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I’d recommend a visit here! The quote on the wall made me laugh (pictured) - “nonalcoholic beer is like a bra on the clothes line: they’ve taken out the best bit”.

🚇 Leicester Square 🍺 £3.70 De Koninck ❤️ The only authentic Dutch pub in London. . De Hems is located in the heart of Soho and sits next to one of the entry gates to Chinatown. The nearest tube station is Leicester square which is just a five minute walk away. . Steeped in history, this pub was rebuilt back in 1890 and was leased to a retired Dutch sea captain called Papa De Hem, hence the pub name. During World War II this pub was the unofficial headquarters of exiles of the Dutch resistance. . Architecturally this pub is absolutely stunning, the gold and window detailing are a joy. Inside the decor is traditional, there is a mural stretching down one wall depicting old Amsterdam, lots of Dutch and Belgian beer paraphernalia and even a Dutch football shirt to give you that feeling that you are somewhere continental. . I visited on St Patricks day this year on a crawl around Soho. I arrived just after 1pm and the pub was fairly quiet. As I gazed at the beer pumps I was rather stumped on what to choose. For those of you who read these reviews will know that I generally choose predominantly generic continental lager, today I fancied going off piste and took some direction from the very informative and pleasant barman. I was recommended a @dekoninck which is a Belgium beer and I really enjoyed it. On the tables you’ll find the extensive beer menu which details everything you need to know about the Dutch and Belgian beers on offer. . The Food menu offers a taste of Dutch cuisine, so if you’re hankering after a bitterballen or maybe a kaasouflees, this is the place for you. There is also a buffet menu and traditional British fayre on offer, fish & chips cost £15. . @dehems_london is a fantastic pub with an amazing line up of Dutch and Belgian beer and food. This is an excellent pub or as they say in Holland “dit is een uitstekende pub” 🇳🇱 . 📊 Information correct on visiting 17/03/22

This place is a gem. Wonderfully eclectic and historic dutch bar serving dutch and traditional food and an unbelievable selection of continental beers. The dutch food tastes very authentic (my wife is from the Netherlands) and the beer is amazing. We found the staff very helpful and happy to let me taste beer before purchase. Prices are very competitive for the West End. The bar is in a great location for pre/post show drinks if visiting the theater.

I loved the ambiance of the Bar and it's very interesting selection of beers For instance, I have never had a strawberry flavoured beer before (Fruli)! As a bonus , it was great to see live Premier League football action, from their large plasma screen. The meal I had whilst watching, was pretty good as well

Atmospheric pub on the edge of Chinatown. It's the only place I've been so far where they have a beer menu, with a great choice of Dutch beer. Food is pretty amazing too. Good enough for a photo!

A rustic pub with a lot of history. It's surprisingly spacious and has two floors, with a large selection of authentic Belgian beers, (and a few Dutch ones on tap) plus a wide variety of small Dutch dishes. At the time of visiting, the pub had large screens up to watch the weekend football, which was being shown on both floors, with two separate bars, meaning it was easy to get a good view and a drink.

I was looking for somewhere that did a good pub meal. So I found this place by pure chance. It was a bit late for lunch, but nothing was an issue for them. The tall guy behind the bar (I didn't get his name). I had a beef stew with a really dark gravy. It was beautiful, although perhaps it could have had a bit more beef in it.

Had a brilliant evening here with a group from a trade association. Failed to get in to our usual venues (they didn’t even reply) but Mark who works at the bar here really helped us out and got us a table for 12 at short notice. His beer recommendations were spot on. All the staff were super-friendly and helpful with good knowledge of the beers available. The bar manager (forgot his name - sorry!) was really helpful getting a tab sorted for our table. Great atmosphere too with a good crowd. Can’t rate the food as I didn’t try it but maybe next time. We will definitely look to host our next social meet up here.
