The Old Ship, tucked neatly down an alley in Hackney is a brilliant pub come restaurant. The stand out point is the staff, all working hard to allow me not to. Just popped in for a pint, wedding in full swing, diners and drinkers too. Everyone has a smile, well done. If you are in Hackney seek this place out!

i've always been a bit fascinated by this pub, it's got that funny little passageway from mare street which leads you into a gem of a pub. their specialty is rotisserie chicken and after checking the website, they do half price on tuesdays... so a whole chicken for £8! we added some mac and cheese and some fries on the side. 10/10 for value. also a very cute pub with screens for football!

Well, since our last review, which we gladly removed, it's gone back to how should, (Thank you, Shannon) uber friendly helpful staff on the whole. Food looks delicious even though we've not tried it..... yet. Worth a visit, but check if there's a party booking / private party / closed to the public

I stayed in one of the rooms in the hotel above the pub. The room was excellent, nicely furnished and very clean. The vibration and sound of the loud music coming from the pub below might put off some people but it didn't bother me too much. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a nice stay here.

What a quaint, beautiful tucked away oasis of a pub. There burgers are on point. We had the smash burger which could easily own the the Big Mac and their fries were crispy and fluffy. Service was friendly, we felt like locals! And it's family and dog friendly.

Recently visited the restaurant/bar and what a little gem it turned out to be. Hidden via a alley from the main street, entering through the doors opens out into spacious space with a lovely bar centred around the tables. The food is amazing and I highly recommendable jerk chicken (either the wings or the rotisserie) - amazing flavour with so much depth. Service was excellent and cannot be faulted, atmosphere was very hip. Will definitely be revisiting!

we stayed at the old ship and are due to return On the day we arrived the manager and the staff were great One of the rooms did smell v badly of ? Tobacco smoke The next day we could not access any breakfast as firstly told by the guy that they didn’t do breakfast anymore and then only until 10 even though when we’re and the day before for another enquiry the woman said she would call me back as busy serving breakfast to room guests That was11am ?? After being refused breakfast the girlfriend of the guy working came out with a coffee and chocolate pastry It would of been nice to have been offered this as an alternative Loved the location ++ Returned and again first great day , manager brill and no smelly rooms ; really nice x However, the next day ringing bell But no one answering turns out they were making coffee and chatting, again-different staff Asked for croissant this time, woman arguing and laughing with us about the fact they don’t do croissant The chef came and she said ask the chef He said yes they do croissants and that she should know that but no allowed to have one now as 10.30 unless of course your not a guest She was then arguing with another guest as they were trying to charge them £15 more in check-in Nice place but there’s lots of hotels in London’s so probably won’t come here again unfortunately

Offered 20% discount on food and drink as a guest in hotel but never received it. Intact we got over charged for below average food and wine. Complained several times once noticed on bank statement but got no response at all. Such a Rip off and a con. False advertising and extremely poor aftercare.

Really nice pub, friendly & helpful staff, hidden outdoor seats in a quiet alley at the back. Only thing was, it's quite pricey. For instance, burgers were around 9 quid, but don't even come with chips - those are 4 to 5 pounds extra! We thought this was a bit rich. But the pub is well located, friendly, and still worth a visit imo.

The best roast dinner you could ever want to eat. The one negative about the old ship is they don't take cash only card payments. Sometimes I only carry cash and not my wallet. I lost my wallet before and lost my driving licence, bank cards and photos. So generally I prefer not to take my wallet out with me all the time.

You guys have to try burger there! It’s simple but sooo delicious! 😋 my friend loved his half of chicken as well (whoever made this coleslaw should go straight to heaven - his words). Staff is super nice and attentive! It was our first time in Old Ship but we felt welcomed like regulars. They definitely taking extra mile for their guests. Hidden gem of Hackney 💎

It's alright. Good decor and menu. Staff were nice enough. The cask was kept far too cold which when I mentioned it to the staff politely as constructive feedback back I was scoffed at. Next pint had too much head on it which again I received some attitude when asking it to be topped up. Won't be rushing back here anytime soon...

Stayed here for two nights. Very quiet upper room considering the lively pub down below. The surrounding neighborhood has limited choices for breakfast and lunch, but if you are willing to walk a bit, the options are better. Would stay here again.

Nice and tidy little room, great burgers and friendly people! What would you need else!? Had a great stay here and definitely can recommend the Old Ship!

Great pub. Seams popular for larger families. Sunday roast is really well executed. Friendly staff and good value for money.

Pre Panto food and drinks. We don’t know the area and we’re coming from 3 different locations! The location was excellent; right next door to Hackney Empire. We didn’t have much time before the show but the staff understood and we were served quickly. Food great, would highly recommended 👍

Booked for a work Christmas lunch for 9 of us, fantastic value, service and food. Really impressed! Great portions and all really tasty.

Great atmosphere and location. Our group really enjoyed the food and the staff were super helpful. One downside is the lack of baby-friendly facilities considering how many young families were there.

A great Sunday roast in an area where other pubs only have pizza now. Some good craft beer on tap. My recommendation is to sit on the west side to avoid the cigarette smoke from the lane. The food is exceptional and well portioned if slightly on the bougie side.

The staff, food and drinks are completely amazing! We have been going here for several years as part of our Christmas celebrations. Sadly owing to a Covid outbreak only a few of us could come. Truly hope we can come again soon. This place is just lovely!

It's decent enough here. Gets incredibly busy at times. Popular with the after work crowd from Hackney. Food is ok but avoid their chicken wings. They are not great! Taste reheated.

There is a warming loneliness that comes with staying in a room above a pub. A good old fashioned yearning. The Old Ship delivers this feeling beautifully accompanied by no breakfast. The serve whisky at the bar, the rooms are modest, the plant pot trips you on the way out.

Brought a lunchtime meal. Burger and chips and a drink. Burger was pink and chips salty. They were happy to exchange but explained they normally sell their Burger medium rear. If you want undercooked Burger this is the place.

Sadly I am at a loss with this beautiful old Inn as to how I should rate it. The rooms are clean, nice decor. But we were provided with a breakfast bag on arrival. This was not what we expected or paid for. Trying to establish what plans they had for breakfast on subsequent mornings fell on deaf ears and so we made our own arrangements. I have contacted the manager twice for an explanation but sadly had no reply. Such a shame because it is a nice Inn well located.

Nice place with a good, to relaxed atmosphere. A few good beers on tap. Didn't eat but the food looked and smelled great. Longer than desirable wait at the bar given that it wasn't that busy but it's a single visit and they had a group of 10 come in for food. Would definitely visit again.

Went for a Sunday roast with the family (10 of us) and it was spot on. The food was perfect and the service very friendly. We'll be back, for sure.

Good atmosphere, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The Sunday roast dinners were wonderfully cooked and Very, very generous. The vegan bean burger was also very tasty, with a great texture. Hopefully we will return for more Sunday lunches. Have returned since and found consistent very good quality Bergers, the roast chicken was also fabulous. Thanks too to helpful and friendly staff.

A lovely pub down a little side street in Hackney. I ordered the Black Bean Burger and some Kimchi Slaw which were both excellent. Will definitely try the Rotisserie Chicken next time!

Food isn't as nice as it used to be. Chicken was a measly portion and dry as hell. When they gave another piece we sent it back it had a funny taste!! They still charged for it even though we sent it back.

Had a great couple of drinks at this place! Staff were amazing, Andy, Chloe and Lawrence and Gary (sorry if I spelt any names wrong) were amazing! So accommodating and had great chats with all of them! If you want a pub that takes care of their customers and takes time with them go here!

Good location, good rooms, a bit smallish with creaking floors, clean toilets, room came with all the basic things and ample tea and coffee supplies, friendly and helpful staff, food was great at the pub with great ambiance !

A great hotel! We had 3 nights here at The Old Ship and from the moment we arrived we were welcomed and made to feel at home. The room was clean, tidy, really comfortable, cleaned and re-stocked daily, and the bar area too was clean, stylish and modern. The locals also were all cool and good fun. The food was very good, we ate twice for lunch and breakfast all three mornings. All good fresh food and cooked well. All in all a very good hotel in the heart of Hackney, the hotel team from the bar staff, chef and house keeping were all friendly and chaty, and served us with a smile 😃. (Extra point for Sam, for all the Bournemouth banter 😉). We would stay here again 👍🏻.

Last minute stay in a single room at top of the Inn. While small, had every comfort you'd expect from a hotel. Wanted for nothing. Lovely bar. Well priced tasty food. Discount for guests appreciated. Great location. Would return!

The Old Ship is an incredible pub and the staff are attentive, friendly and do everything that they can to ensure that their customers are well-looked after. Shannon is an incredibly manager! As regulars, we came into the Ship today for after-work drinks which were unfortunately disturbed by a commotion. Shannon, the manager, dealt with this incredibly and ensured that everybody was safe and looked after. Unfortunately, the couple involved were provocative and wouldn’t allow the manger to do her job. It was distressing to see how poorly she was being treated while trying to diffuse the situation. Fortunately, she was able to remove the offending parties and those of us who were just here to have a lovely, quiet drink felt reassured and looked after. This is a beautiful pub and the family-friendly feel is welcomed. We’re incredibly grateful to all the staff at The Ship and just incredibly sorry that they have to put up with such horrendous behaviour. The food is beautiful (especially the Sunday roast!) and I’ll always happily head here for a cheeky rum and orange (only a dash of orange though!) and an accompanying tequila!

Went for Sunday lunch and the staff are friendly and down to earth - shout out to Shannon!! Portions are decent however we did ask for our beef to be medium rare and it was medium yet it was tasty all the same. Recommend and will go back.

Shannon gets a special mention for arranging suitable seating for my disabled guest beforehand. She is a particular asset to the team, but all the staff were attentive and friendly. The Sunday roast was fabulous and the chocolate brownie delicious. Drinks were served at the table without fuss or delay. A very well run, obviously happy place. We had a lovely time.

It had been a while since my last visit to this pub and it has seen positive changes. We really enjoyed our lunch on 28 Nov 2023. I Will keep coming more often! the Sunday chef's roast was delicious and reasonably priced. The waitress was very friendly and keep an eye on our table; which is great considering how busy it was.
