It appears that I parked in the mangers space in the car park which was not marked as reserved. He decided to block me in by parking his Range Rover in front of my car. He made me and my family wait for over 45 mins before he moved it. I had eaten there with my wife and children many times.I made repeated attempts to get him to move his car but to no avail. It seems the staff were fully ware that he was teaching me a lesson even though I pointed out I was a patron and the space was not marked as reserved. Hideous place. I will never return and inform everyone not to frequent this place

Had a very nice meal at the Blue Boar. I had the sea bass with potatoes and ratatouille. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only downside was the loud music from the DJ outside, had to move tables to a quieter area. Since my visit I have received a fine for parking in the car park. I have emailed the blue boar about this but nothing has been done. Today I received another letter from the car parking company threatening to send debt collectors if I don't pay the fine. Sadly I have adjusted my rating to reflect these issues. Hopefully the blue boar can sort this and will leave a follow up shortly. Prices were quite reasonable, main meals £15-£20, desserts around £6.50.

I visited your restaurant today for lunch. Extremely disappointed with the service after I told staff I had three hairs in my food, it would be expected to receive some form of refund or even an apology. I was told by management everyone was bald in the kitchen and they were not very apologetic. I was frequent customer and they have great food so it is a shame about the hairs. I normally would ignore one hair but this was three hairs right in the food.

To be fair the food was good, but the service was very poor. We booked a private room minimum £500 spend....it wasnt private at all as the staff kept coming to use the storage room which you could only access from our room ..... The staff was not attentive enough as we had to keep getting up to ask for basic things like mustard & drinks....For £500 minimum spend you would expect a waiter or waitress to pop in and ask if all is ok or if we need anything...there was no excuse as the pub was extremely quiet not busy at all. Credit to the chef as the food was actually good. If the manager reads this review You should step up your game with training your staff members. Dont bother booking private rooms simply not worth it...

Thought we would try the ‘New Boar’ as the service and food was poor when we previously visited under the old management. Having booked as a family with accompanying children, they have no children’s menu, so full price adult meal for my 6 year old or chicken and chips/pasta kids meal at £16 EACH! - no actual physical kids menu, weird! Food was cold, missing items from one of the mains, brought tar tar sauce instead of mayonnaise and the salad was swimming in oil. Bizarre that the menu lists either Gluten free or Vegan, yet they are unable or do not want to cater for people with dairy intolerances? Not sure why a restaurant in 2023 thinks it’s acceptable to have no dairy free milk options for something as basic as tea and coffee? Response from waitress when asking for a dairy alternative with my coffee was ‘we only do semi-skimmed milk’. Flat out ‘computer says no’ vibe. Now if this was my restaurant I would be straight to the shop to accommodate my customer, I mean for £1.10 a litre, you have just isolated a large population of customers that cannot have dairy. Maybe I have been too used to London restaurants, and although this restaurant has had a nice new fit out, seems the execution of the food and the accommodation of customers is still poor. All fur coat and no knickers springs to mind…

Absolutely SHOCKING service under the new management. We live across the road from the new Boar and have been using it as a local pub for years. Months ago we had booked a space in the pub for the day after our wedding & paid a £100 deposit to have our friends and family for a drink. As our local we wanted to get our whole family together for some after wedding drinks & laughter. 3 weeks prior to the wedding we were called and told the room/area would not be available anymore because the Abridge Christmas lights were being lit and thousands of people would be around. In all the years of the Abridge lights being lit, never have hundreds, let alone thousands of people turned up to view. When we turned up we were given a space at the back of the restaurant only to find the space we had paid to reserve was occupied by another family. We were then told by the manager that they needed the table back and we only had a limited time in the empty restaurant that we had paid £100 to book. After what can only be described as a deflating end to our wedding, our party decided to leave and go somewhere much more welcoming. Before we had even vacated the table the rude waiter was aggressively clanging cutlery off the table, didn't ask us if we had a good time or enjoyed ourselves & made it hugely obvious they wanted us out of there. What a shame. The Blue Boar would never have treated locals like this.... especially not for a wedding occasion.

It is a shabby looking interior. Service was good. Food was terrible. Some of the starters were cold. The roast beef was pre packed not freshly made and the Lamb was the same they tasted the same to be honest. Some one who we only assume was the owner came in with his 2 lovely dogs and brought them in and out the restaurant and kitchen several times. They charge top prices for poor quality food. Not a great experience so won't be returning again.

Great village pub with large restaurant. Varied menu but not too large as to lower the standards of the food. Steaks are excellent and the Pie and Mash is out of this world as good as in any Pie and Mash Shop. Good selection of beer and wines too.

Was just passing by looking for somewhere to have lunch yesterday afternoon with wife and two daughters. Glad we stopped here. We got a nice welcome and table in their super cosy outdoor area. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful from the moment we entered to when we left. Top it all the weather was perfect. Forgot to mention, the food was lovely. Definitely will go back.

Not great! Went for friend’s birthday. Firstly they asked for £20 deposit for each person for a Tuesday night. The restaurant had only about 3 tables occupied when we arrived. Some food wasn’t available. Literally an hour later they told us we can’t have dessert cause the chef was going home and we couldn’t have coffee cause the machine was broken and by 9.40pm we were asked to pay up cause they want to go home. Ridiculous!

Under new management so thought we’d give it another go, as last time we were there, there was a lot of rowdy blokes showing off on their motor bikes, revving up creating fumes while your trying to eat your lunch, extremely not good, we had family over from holland with us, they weren’t impressed Now so much better, staff are friendly and very helpful, we had an excellent lunch there, pretty reasonably priced too. Parking was great, maybe wise to book ahead as I can see them getting real busy, Will be going back soon

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The New Boar in Abridge, Essex, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. This charming establishment offers a warm and inviting ambiance, coupled with a delectable menu that is sure to please even the most discerning food lovers. To start our meal, my companions and I decided to share a serving of paella. From the very first bite, it was evident that the chefs at The New Boar take great pride in their culinary creations. The paella was bursting with flavor, with perfectly cooked rice, tender pieces of meat, and an exquisite blend of spices. It was a true delight for the taste buds, and we couldn't help but savor every mouthful. Additionally, some members of our party opted to share the tomahawk steak, and they were not disappointed. The tomahawk, cooked to perfection, was a sight to behold. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and full of rich flavors. The portion size was generous, allowing everyone to savor a hearty serving. It was a carnivore's dream come true, and the unanimous praise from my companions spoke volumes about the quality of the dish. Apart from the outstanding food, the service at The New Boar was also commendable. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than willing to provide recommendations and answer any questions we had, ensuring that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable. The ambiance of The New Boar further enhanced our visit. The restaurant boasts a stylish yet cozy interior, with tasteful decor and comfortable seating arrangements. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, allowing for an enjoyable and intimate dining experience. In conclusion, I highly recommend The New Boar in Abridge, Essex, for an exceptional dining experience. Whether you choose to indulge in their scrumptious paella or savor their mouthwatering tomahawk steak, you're in for a treat. The combination of outstanding food, attentive service, and inviting ambiance makes The New Boar a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a memorable culinary adventure.

The atmosphere was nice and the room we hired out was well laid out. However, the food was a bit bland and the roasts were quite tough. A couple of issues with food orders too.

Everything 10/10, very enjoyable experience. Lovely staff, good vibes, clean restaurant... and the Paella *chef's kiss*. Would definitely recommend for couples and families. They also have a nice spacious private room for larger groups but I'm not quite sure how many.

Been coming blue boat for years, always lovely atmosphere and meal. But on our last trip it was awful! Watched the owner kick out a bunch of woman for asking where their drinks were. Shocking scenes, threatening to knock out a group of women! Wouldn’t recommend, we left soon after that. It was all very aggressive, shame used to be a very nice place to eat. Owner was an animal, disrespectful and obnoxious, to try and intimidate women and threaten to knock them out is shameful.

Service was ok. The garlic bread starter was not much to speak about. However, the main was quite tasty. Table was not cleaned before we sat down although it had been prepared for a new seating for some reason it had not been wiped at all. Hair was stuck to the cutlery. Shame as it seemed like a lovely place from the outside.

I visited the blue boar last night with my partner and two friends, we all had cocktails and starters - the cheesy garlic bread was amazing. For mains we all had something different and everything was delicious the chips are unreal! The waitresses were lovely very helpful and made great recommendations. The atmosphere was great too. I would highly recommend the blue boar if you want cocktails and great food! Very reasonably priced too. We will definitely be back

Modern decor in main dining area, large conservatory area and several private booths (outside, but heated) . Also a private dining room for hire. Food was good and menu quite large. Price of food was very reasonable. Car park is busy and fairly small but there is a lovely man who seems to magically accommodate everyone. Worth a visit.

Really disappointed with the portion size of my fish and chips off the lunch menu last week. Always a firm favourite this place but makes me not want to go back when the serving is for a 5 year old

Fantastic place, staff are very welcoming and friendly throughout your visit, weather it be food or just drinks, the food is amazing, and caters for all, families, couples or groups of friends Also has an amazing outdoor setting which is catered to rain or shine

Lovely decor and attentive staff but the food was awful. Had the nut roast which was more of a sloppy Mexican with the burrito flavour as well?. Potatoes ok but unfortunately cheesy cauliflower came out cold in the middle - sent it back and they microwaved and gave back. The staff were wonderful but I wouldn’t say they are the place for a roast.
