Best pub experience we had in London (and we went to many). After several pubs telling us they were full up despite multiple unreserved tables, walrus and carpenter found space for us after a short wait and worked with us to get a table after a night of roaming the city hungry. The other pubs loss was their gain. We spent over £100 on a full night out of fish and chips, several rounds of beers, steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding. The best pub food we had on the trip, great service and friendly staff. Be advised that you have to order on the app or walk up and pay/put in food, which seems to be par for the course for UK pubs. My only complaint is whiskey pours are very measured and not generous, but stick to beer and ale and you'll have a great time.

Great pint in a really popular place next to the monument!! lovely staff but it’s quite small inside, there is a little space outside which helps. No complaints 👍🏻

Great London boozer and a great way to enjoy a pint after a busy day exploring London. It does get busy as people leave work but still managed to get a table inside.

A good old fashioned pub in the heart of the city. This pub is unique in the fact that it has a good outdoor space which is quite hard to find in the square mile. The outdoor space also serves up as a perfect sun trap in the summer, where you can spend the afternoon having a beer in the sun.

Right next to the monument to the great fire of London, with seating outside with a view up to the monument itself! Range of beers was fantastic with some great hoppy and zesty American style IPAs! Great place to chill with a drink and watch the world go by!

Horrid! Guy blocking the door, forcing you to download nhs app because can't be bothered writing down your details... Unwelcoming. You are just an obstacle for the stuff. Dry burger... Awful.. avoid!

I visited the pub with my family this week and I can say our experience was fantastic. The staff was great, friendly and kind. They made sure our food was delivered quickly so we could get on time to our tour. The food was amazing and had a great selection of British food. 10/10 would recommend it to everyone.

The food was VERY good and the staff was nice it was one of the nicest looking and tasting places here and will definitely recommend to anyone who passes by. Small note I had the regular cheese burger with fries as well as the fish and chips and they were both splendid.

Really nice pub. The fish & chips were really nice. A bit light on the chips, but the fish was good. Nachos wasn't any good, very little guacamole or sour cream & the cheese wasn't mozzarella. Great selection beers, ciders & wine. Would recommend a visit.

Great pub in the City. Nice atmosphere related to the Alice in Wonderland world. If you visit it at night look towards Thames river and see Shred highlighted. Amazing view!

Good food and drinks! Burger was really tasty and fries were fine. The ciders were good but there weren’t a lot of different flavors. The app/QR code didn’t work for us so we had to go to the bar to order.

Excellent pub run by some very excellent staff. The indoor seating is great and we felt accommodated the moment we entered. We celebrated one of our friends 40th birthday 🎂 there and the staff were just very kind. Well done to the pubs team. Good luck.

A traditional London pup with a good deco and a choice of beers/ drinks. One thing they have got to sort out (must do) is the toilets. The smell is overwhelming and drifts into the pub properly spoiling the atmosphere when using the facilities or even sitting anywhere near it.

Really lovely pub with loads of seating. Has a second bar and more seating up on the first floor. We ate from their tapas menu. The food was delicious.

Very pleasant lady behind the bar who was very helpful. The pub is a lovely place full of historic snippets and wonderful little pics. The Guinness was lovely and the Tribute was very nice.

What an amazing experience! I brought my partners parents here who were over from France! Stopped for some classic fish and chips, was not disappointed! Was served by a South African gentleman behind the bar, we had a chat about cricket. Was really polite and helpful! Will be coming here again that’s for sure!

Nice traditional style pub. Has a good selection of beers on tap. Gets very busy after work but large outside area to front of pub for taking in the evening sun

Popped into this joint on my way home from work one night and to say it lived up to it's reputation is putting it lightly. Service was impeccable, with speedy and very polite staff. Was served by a lovely bartender named Brooke who made sure I had everything I needed. The food was also fantastic. I had the fish and chips and it was served fresh and even the presentation was on point. Will definitely be coming back here. Highly recommend.

Wonderful little pub, popped in on a whim on a day out with my grandparents and they absolutely loved it! Lovely wine selection and reasonable pricing for London. We love to try a new wine when we visit a new place and the girl behind the bar was so helpful with her recommendation - I believe her name was Mia. Overall a lovely experience, just a little busy but that was to be expected for such a lovely place!

What happened? It's been a few years admittedly. Dropped in for old times sake... It's been turned into a bit of a barn. Decorative Victorian features have disappeared and the bar has been narrowed. Poor craftsmanship revealed in mismatched flooring and inserted panels where original Victorian arch used to be. Options for lunchtime snacks were very good as was the beer and service. What a shame the owners have shown such little appreciation of the original character of the place.

The best thing about this pub is by far the staff. They are all amazing. £5.90 for a pint of flat Amstel is actually robbery though. You really need some new glasses though as the ones you are using are well past there best.

Nice cheeseburger and a great selection of Ales. Could do with some better glassware. I had a double sloe gin and Lemon tonic for £11.20. I asked for a gin balloon but they said they only have one and it didn't fit in the dishwasher.

Great traditional british dished with an amazing view of the monument, the shard and the sky garden. Very large selection of gins as well and very well priced, served in magnificent crystal glasses

Stumbled across your pub by accident, what a cozy little pub! Nice food, tasty drinks and the staff were more than accommodating seeing as we did not have a reservation. We had a lovely time, and will try to pop in again whenever we next venture into London

Very nice and old pub. Actually one of the oldest. I love the interior. Very busy in afternoons but atmosphere and customer service is amazing. I really like this place 😍

Busy pub close to Monument and Billingsgate Market. Despite the waves of people coming in the staff were really fast, friendly and efficient serving them so never had long to wait. Were sold out of a lot of the bar snacks but those we did have were very tasty. Will go back.

Such a lovely place. I was just walking around when I discovered this place. I am not the type to go out but I will definitely try to come back as soon as possible. I also remember a friendly and funny employee named Mihaela. She made our night so nice. 10 out of 10. Great food, amazing staff, good atmosphere. I recommend it!!!

A good location near Monument. It has a small square outside, perfect for when the sun is out. The sandwich with pulled steak was excellent.

  • 5/5 Richard T. 2 years ago on Google
The food was delicious: try the game pudding or Mac n' cheese (with or without bacon). And the staff was really friendly. Only complaint: if you offer bacon for Mac n' cheese, it is best if it is small, crispy pieces.

Barely saw the staff, they visited our table twice. Once to bring the drinks and once to bring the food. Still got charged a table service fee. I am not a fan of automatically charging a fee. Food was ok. You order yourself from the table.

This pub is a long time favourite of mine. I have been going every Monday evening for 10 years. The staff are friendly, the beer is well kept and the snacks and bar food are great (but bring back the fish platter!) In the summer you can sit out in the lane and in front of the pub and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the City. The only shame is how quiet it is, so get your arse over there!

A bustling friendly pub just down the hill from Monument. Busy on a Wednesday afternoon. A most enjoyable pint. The staff are great, welcoming and knowledgeable. This is certainly a pub worth a visit and offers all sorts of treats for the dedicated drinker. I'm not too sure what the connection with Lewis Carrol is other than the pub being named after the poem from through the looking glass, maybe a rabbit lives here, it's too dry for walrus's methinks. Anyway, a lovely pub.

A cosy pub that sadly do not feature enough thematic atmosphere as the name suggests. Access to the Lewis Carroll dining room requires booking in advance.

Popped in two consecutive days as I'm staying at the premiere inn next door. Lovely traditional pub. Had a couple of quite pints by myself.

A classic English pub downstairs with outdoor seating and great people watching. Just off busy street and a block from London fire monument. Upstairs is the higher end Lewis Carrol dining room which is really charming and full of natural light. Elevated traditional pub food was delicious.

We used this pub twice for client events and the experience was really great! ✨ All the staff is very helpful and super polite. Jim is the star there and really helped us having a smooth experience both times. 🙌 Also, delicious food and amazing service 👌

I had a fantastic experience at this pub, all thanks to our server, Monica. She was attentive, friendly, and offered great drink recommendations. I'm definitely coming back not just for the exceptional drink selection, but also for the excellent service provided by Monica. Cheers to a great night out!
