The old ‘Cochin bridge’ is today a sorry sight after a portion of it collapsed into the river bed in November 2011.The seventh span collapsed, and fell into Bharathapuzha along with the middle portion of the bridge, on Wednesday.after a new bridge was inaugurated on January 25, 2003 a-few meters away.

This bridge across Bharathi puzha - puzha is malayalam word and it means river - was constructed few years back . Earlier there was another bridge across the river very nearby and when it was old that bridge was demolished and removed after constructing this new bridge. On one end of the bridge is Shoranur which is in Palakkad district and on the other end is Cheruthuruthy which is in Trissur district. Very near to this bridge there is another bridge for railway line. During rainy season the river will have plenty of water. But during summer there will not be much water in the river
