My second visit here, and I'm still finding new and interesting exhibits to discover! Some might find the ticket price a little high, but I feel its very good value for the wide scope of exhibits here. There are examples of every household item you could imagine from a rich history here. I guarantee I'll visit a third time!

Huge collection of semi-vintage Soviet automobiles, household items and other memorabilia. If you are over the age of 30 this is your chance to shed a bittersweet tear of sugarcoated nostalgia while cursing the evil capitalistic EU and wishing communism never fell because who wouldn't enjoy eating the same 5 meals every week and never be able to travel farther than your dyado's village. 5/5 will come again.

Wonderful nostalgic museum about Bulgarian life in 1944-1989. Aside from many communistic cars, all in pristine condition, there is an abundance of everyday items. From vacuüm cleaners to toys to electronics and sign posts. Also nice for Western European visitors as they'll surely recognize some items from this era. Tickets can be combined with access to the wax museum in the same place. Recommended.

It is an incredible museum to take you back into past. There are a lot of old exhibits which tell the story of life of the past century. Not to mention huge collection of cars.

Great place, super pristine exhibition. There are separate parts, one with wax figures and one (the larger one) with restored old cars from the communist era. Also, there are lots of showcases with communist era objects, from cosmetics to cigarettes', vacuum cleaners and toys. Its a trip down memory lane for the ones who lived through communism. The place is in a Mall, the ticket per person, for both the exhibitions, is 20 leva. Its a must see in Varna.

Good place for nostalgic memories if you were a kid in the 80's in soviet union. The museum is very well maintained and the exhibition is nicely laid out, but it lacks descriptions of items.

Very big exposition of cars, bicycles, tools and toys from the 80s and 90s in Bulgaria. Everything is in perfect condition. Old music is playing all the time which helps to feel yourself in the past. You can also visit the second room with realistic bodies of famous people, made from wax. You can show to your kids wat were your radio, camera and toys when you were a kid. It was really nice, recommend.

Many or better most of the pieces that are shown here, remind you on the time 30 and more years ago. The retro museum is located in the Varna Grand Mall and gives you a "flashback" into former times. There are pieces from the every day life, toys, money, signs and even cars and motorcycles from the eastern Europe manufacturers of this time span. Even if you didn't live at this time period, it is a nice and interesting experience. The museum is well sorted and next to it is also a wax figure exhibition with well known persons and former political leaders. Go there and enjoy!

Absolutely a must! The best communist museum we have ever been to. The cars look pristine, like they have just been taken out of the factory and the other objects are sooooo many. They have radios, television sets computers, calculators, toys, beauty products, ranging from 1950 to 1988.

Very nice experience, right in the Grand Mall. It was a nice and quiet walk after eating lunch and wanting to escape from the busy mall on a Saturday. It has a lot to offer (cars but also other memorabilia) and it takes around 30 minutes to visit. It costs 15 Leva (around 7,5 Euro/person). There is also a Wax Museum in the same place, it costs another 15 Leva. Enjoy!

Super interesting museum. It is not big but if you want to really see everything, you can spend more than an hour here. The cars are gorgeous. It is clean and well maintained. I actually got emotional because some of the toys and products are from my childhood... in the background music of Lili Ivanova, good memories just overtook me. PS: I have to say the lady at the entrance was very rude- almost got angry that we did not buy the combined ticket with the museum with figures. Well we are the clients and we decide what we won't to see :)

Fantastic museum, it reminds us of a whole time lived by our parents, we can see some other equipment or toy that we still have at home. The place is located on the first floor of the Grand Mall.

Great place to see cars that were used during communist regime. Also a lot of everyday items. Brought back memories. Sadly it doesn't show the atrocities that the communists did or the everyday struggles of the people.

The museum located inside Grand Mall shopping center. Tickets you can buy before entering on reception. 2 tickets 1 is for retro museum, another for Wax Musseum. Quite interesting places, with some retro Soviet Union things, cars, etc. It's a bit cold inside( visited in april), so recommend to have some warm cloth. Full round inside will take around 40 min. to 1 hrs.

Took a trip to the Tetro museum to fulfil memories of the past of my own and other cultures, it was not disappointing that much is for sure. If you have a passion for vintage cars this is definitely the place for you, although they all looked the same to me! Really enjoyed looking at the 70’s and 80’s merchandise.

Nice place to discover cars from an other era, cars we couldn't find in France. One small detail: It was WAY too hot inside. No air flow. Still it was well worth it. Can check the wax museum just next to it also.

I was really surprised to see that, there is museum in the Mall. Love the idea. Why not, going to do some shopping and stop by in the museum. I'm not a big fan of cars so basically 70% of the things you can see are cars and car parts. Whoever like retro cars, definitely go there! The actual museum has two halls. One with wax figures and one with all kinds of stuff(mainly cars). The entrance is 12 Lv for one hall and 18 lv for both. I have been to Madame Tussaud museum and didn't like it, that way I went just to the main hall. However, they did manage to bring me back in the past and my time when I was a kid. If you can see from the photos I uploaded, very dark, not sure if they trying to save money from electricity ( as it's very expensive apparently in Bulgaria) or just the way it's. But the Darkest museum I have ever been to. My friend back home is a post stamps collector, he has that hobby and I thought about that I can show him what the post stamps were in Bulgaria back in the days. So I went around and around probably 3 times and I couldn't see as I probably missed somewhere in the darkness. I went and ask the security guy on the door who was playing on his phone all the time and looks like he wasn't enjoying his work and time he have to be there. However he said “i have no idea”. Then I decided to go further and ask the lady on the cashier. Surprisingly for me she said the same thing, I ask her “ how come you sale tickets for something you don't know?” she said that very often the collection is updated and if she has a day off that day she doesn't know what is been added or removed. So here I suggest 2 things. 1) collection of post stamps, pretty please and I will come back to see if or even bring my friend 2) handover book where stuff who has day off to know what is been updated or been removed. I'm saying that because some people coming to your place to see something special and imagine if that thing is not there, I bet you won't refund the money for entrance. After all good experience!

Plenty of retro cars. Thre other objects make sense if one grew up in Bulgaria during those years. There's no explanation or story behind the exhibits. I didn't like that the security checked our tickets several times 😠 once inside the museum

  • 5/5 Lynda B. 4 years ago on Google
We went to the Retro museum with my dad who is from that particular generation who can recognize every single item in the museum. We all really enjoyed it. Not only was everything in an excellent condition (cars were waxed and shiny, and there were many variants of every item), but there were also some cleverly selected signs with a witty undertone. Unfortunately, there are no translations for these in English, only the originals in Bulgarian, and that would be my only criticism. Also, you have the choice to go to a wax museum or to combine both the retro and wax museums for which you have to pay 15 levs each. On top of that, the lady that welcomes visitors at the entrance of the museum is very friendly (something unusual for Bulgarian clerks). Also, unlike some other attractions in Varna, you are allowed to take as many pictures as you want. We paid 10 levs per adult ticket and we spent there over an hour. The museum is conveniently located inside Grand Mall, which can be reached by taxi and bus as it is right next to the main bus station of the city.

I don't think I ever experienced such joy in a museum before, I was like a kid in a candy store! Everything from the concept to the execution here is brilliant! The museum is located on the first floor of the grand mall of Varna and is a collection of objects that marked the life of Bulgarians under Communism. You know, for such a lousy regime, these objects look really beautiful, the cars especially are a treat and I am not even much into cars. Price of admission is 10 leva and at first I thought it was a rip-off for a museum in a mall, but, boy, was I wrong: I ended up spending more than 2 hours here and there were some things I only glanced at in passing. When I entered I was put-off by the booming music only to realize 10 minutes later that they were playing smash hits from the communist era. For an extra 5 leva you can see a small wax museum, I think that was a bit pricey for hardly 10 minutes worth of statues, but, overall it was worth it. 10/10 recommended!

  • 5/5 Ondřej P. 4 years ago on Google
Absolutely excellent exhibition of artefacts from comunism. Mostly abour cars, but you can see a lot things from normal life of us.

  • 5/5 Brian B. 5 years ago on Google
A great place to visit if you have an interest in cars and general items from the 50s to 80s period. All the cars (former Iron Curtain) models look like they just rolled off the assembly line, every one is in truly mint condition. There were also a lot of toys from the same period and again most of these were in exceptional condition. For a discounted rate you can buy a combined ticket which covers the waxworks exhibition, this is nowhere near as big as the cars but worth a look. Some of the figures were frighteningly realistic & photos were allowed ( I had read somewhere else they weren't).

  • 5/5 Mugur A. 4 years ago on Google
Incredible comunism museum. A must see in Varna. The retro atmosphere is completed by retro music from that years. About 60 state of the art restored cars and as a bonus, many house appliances and more.

Da. Merita bani.

  • 5/5 Ruud K. 4 years ago on Google
A hidden gem in a shopping mall in Varna! If you want to see the history of all the former eastern block car industry than this is the place to go to. From Wartburg to Lada and Moskovits it's all there and restored to pristine condition. Also lot's of other stuff like house hold appliance's from the old day's that communism wasn't a dirty word, so if you are ever near Varna this is a must see, made a deep impression on me. There is also a wax museum with former communist leaders and some famous movie stars nowadays, but that's not a real success but still worthy to visit, like Mao, Lenin, Che and Fidel Castro.

I could not believe how immaculate these renovations are. It is a pity the cars are possibly too immaculate to be used. The origins could be better described. Ordinary people would be very lucky to own a car like these and would need to work years to buy one. Probably not as well finished as these cars.
