Me and my wife visited the Cortile della Pigna (Courtyard of the Pinecone) in Vatican City a few weeks ago. It's a truly unique and beautiful courtyard in the absolutely outstanding and panets-unique Vatican Museums, and it's home to some amazing sculptures, including the 16th-century Fontana della Pigna (Fountain of the Pinecone). The fountain is a colossal bronze pinecone, which was originally found in the Baths of Agrippa. It's a **masterpiece of Roman art**, and it's one of the most popular tourist attractions here. The courtyard is also home to the tourists-favorite Sphere Within Sphere (Sfera con sfera) sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro. This sculpture is a series of concentric spheres, with the largest sphere on the outside and the smallest sphere on the inside. The spheres are cracked and distorted, which gives the sculpture a eerieest effect. The courtyard is a great place to relax and take a break from exploring the Vatican Museums what we certainly did there. It's also a great place to take photos, and the fountain and the sculpture are both very photogenic of course.

The Pinecone Courtyard is one of the unmissable sights you see at the Vatican on the way to the Sistine Chapel. This massive courtyard is named after the 4 meters high bronze pinecone sculpture located at its one end.

Wonderful courtyard . There are also illustrations about the Sixteen Chapel which were superbly supplemented by our wonderful tour guide Fabiola from the Roman Guy. For my American friends: The CDC vaccination card is accepted everywhere instead of the European Green Pass

A nice garden in the heart of the the Vatican museum. A lot of history in one place and rich with elements. There are boards where you can find more explanations on the history. Also in the center you can find the Giant Fractured Sphere. There is a coffee shop in the center of the yard, but don't count on it as the service is ridiculously slow, very expensive and the menu is poor. Enjoy :)

Magnificent place, with the museum ticket you can go there, it is a nice break for those who got full experience and have to go to the other sites. The gardens have a phenomenal beauty feels like you are not in the heart of Rome, rather a peaceful quiet place. There is alao a nice cafe restaurant there for a quick bite.

Before going into the Vatican Museum, you will pass by this giant fractured sphere called Sfera con Sfera, translated as Sphere within a Sphere, is a bronze statue that appears golden as the sun shines down on it. It is 4 meters (a little over 13 feet) in diameter. First time i see it, really amazed me. maybe because its shining like gold. Good job to italian sculptor, Arnaldo Pomodoro. This is masterpiece!!.

The museum's well-curated exhibits showcased a rich collection of art and historical artifacts, providing deep insights into the region's heritage. The serene courtyard, surrounded by pine trees, added a unique charm to the visit. The staff was knowledgeable and welcoming, enhancing the overall experience. Highly recommended for anyone interested in art and history in a peaceful setting.

Beautiful courtyard that tourist pass during the visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. There is a restaurant and benches to sit and relax and take a break if you wish. There is a Globe that spins in the center of the square. Worth making a short stop over here to enjoy the view and a cup of coffee.

If you're Vatican Museum and not the artsy type, take a guided tour. It's well worth the money, jumps the queues, and at least you get to know something about what you're looking at. Most people rush through trying to get to the Sistene Chapel, but there are a ton of other things worth seeing, and when you're all but tired out the Pigna Courtyard (Cortile della Pigna) is a great place to stop, have some fresh air and some sun. In the middle of the courtyard is Arnaldo Pomodoro's bronze globe sculpture. It looks slightly out of place in the Vatican, but is also contrasts against all the historic artefacts, and is one of the most photographed pieces in the museum.

It's an amazing square inside the Vatican Museums. Green grass, neat and clean, nice seating place, mind blowing view of Saint Peter's Basilica' dome, 1st century's pinecone and Spere and Spere by Pomodoro.

We decided to have breakfast at the bistro where the courtyard is since we had to be quite early to queue. Honestly, the breakfast was ok- ish nevertheless you could have a refill of the coffee which was nice.

This was a beautiful courtyard and such a nice break for our toddler to be able to walk and run around. For the majority of our Vatican tour, she was either stuck in her stroller or asleep. Once she woke up, she really wanted to stretch. The courtyard has a restaurant or Cafe, where we stopped to get some drinks and a snack to hold us over till dinner. You can't step on the grass but other than that, it's pretty open. There's a fountain with holy water right in between, the Cafe mentioned above, and a globe structure right in the middle. The courtyard wasn't packed but it wasn't empty either. There are some benches along the way and it was nice to get some sun. From the courtyard, there is a great view of the architecture of the Vatican and it is so much easier to appreciate it from this vantage point.

It is part of Vatican museums. It is beautiful courtyard. Experience in museum was terrible, because there was toooo many people in the museum. Also the Sixtine chapell was overcrowded and loud for a chapell. The Museum should have more strickt time slot with less people inside.

Nice spot to sit down and get some sun after spending hours looking at paintings in dark lighting lol. There's two famous sculptures here, a pine cone (Pigna, located by the double staircase) and The "Sphere within a Sphere" statue (the spinning orb in the center). The pigna is ancient, but the sphere is a modern art sculpture made in the 20th century by an Italian sculptor.

This is not about the museum but about the restaurant . After nearly 3 hours of visiting the museum, we went to the courtyard to feed our 6 month old son. When heavy rain started, we went to the restaurant, so our baby won’t get wet and to proceed feeding him. Although 70% of the tables was empty, the waitress threw us out of the restaurant saying, her boss didn’t allow it. We would have been gone after 5 Minutes but they rather leave a family with a hungry crying baby, getting wet in the rain than allowing them to continue feeding for a few minutes. If i think that restaurant is in the heart of catholic church, the owner and waitress don’t seem to care for any kind of christian behavior.
