A truly amazing place to visit. We stood in awe before all of the amazing places in the surrounding area. One of the most picturesque views that I personally have ever visited. It cost nothing just to walk around this area and admire the views standing before you.

No tickets needed to enter except for museum. Breathtaking I must said but the crowds were crazy. We were there 745am as we checked the opening time is 8am. Lines are moving quite fast due to security check (like in the airport security check lane). Note : no one speaks proper english there for you to ask or any proper instructions or guideline as to where to enter, where to buy tickets & etc We literally just took pictures from the outside & didnt managed to enter at all. Perhaps the next trip then.

The Vatican City is not part of Italy or Rome. It is a country in its own right and the Pope is its ruler. The Vatican is the last true remnant of the Roman Empire. The State of Israel is also said to be a Roman outpost. The Vatican’s wealth includes investments with the Rothschilds in Britain, France and US and with oil and weapons corporations as well. The Vatican’s billions are said to be in Rothschild controlled ‘Bank of England’ and US Federal Reserve Bank. The money possessed by the Vatican is more than banks, corporations or even some Governments and questions why the wealth is not used to elevate at least the Christian poor when it preaches about giving? Beautiful place to visit. The Obelisk is located at the center of the square and is has Egyptian engraving on it. The place is usually crowded and is always recommended to go early. It gets really warm and hot during the day so it's advisable to carry some covering. It's also important to be fully clothed (shoulders covered and no short skirts or dress) if you want to entry the square. Be aware of very long lines but it's totally worth the visit.

Just a remarkable place. A must visit!! You don't have to be a Christian to appreciate the vibes of the people and the place. People from all over the world just looking around and lining for a chance to get in the temple. The day we wanted to get in the temple there was a celebration and we got to see the Pope but unfortunately we didn't have the time to wait in line. So its good to check from before the timetable of the vatican.

Must see stop in Rome! Pictures just don't begin to show the size of the Square. Be prepared for large crowds at entrance to Vatican City and St. Peters Square. Brave the crowds and experience this in person. We did the Ultimate Rome Tour through Princess Cruises and it's excellent and worth every penny! Just amazing! Recommended tour to see the best in Rome and ease of getting into these venues much easier than doing it yourself. They know all the ins and outs of getting into these venues quickly and best way possible.

(Translated by Google) When it rains or it is about to rain, the obelisk and the two fountains give their best for photographers. There are shy and silent people and respectful of the places. Everyone and even foreigners know where to go to get their photos taken; couples with children do love more. In the beautiful everything is more beautiful and you love more those around you. I talk about the afternoon that lasts a long time and then get to dusk when the lights of the square turn on and the same changes again. In the evening tourists and Romans leave the wonderful volunteers who do not think of beauty, but of the substance of life's difficulties, of a dreamed food and of the discussions about who was there before, without anyone taking advantage of it. radio music and then cartoons, then I don't know ... Giant and enormously beautiful square. There’s so good atmosphere and compared to the rest of the Rome it’s clean. Even when Pope is speaking on his balcony and people are still coming to see him, it still wasn’t full, but that’s of course just my experience.

(Translated by Google) The Vatican Obelisk is one of the thirteen ancient obelisks in Rome and is located in St. Peter's Square. The Vatican Obelisk in its original location; drawing by Maarten van Heemskerck, 1532 Made of red granite, it stands out to a height of 25.5 meters and with the base (composed of four bronze lions, works by Prospero Antichi) and the cross reaches almost 40 meters. The inscription reads: ECCE CRUX DOMINI - FVGITE - PARTES ADVERSAE - VICIT LEO DE TRIBV IVDA, that is, in Italian: "Behold the cross of the Lord, flee adverse parties, triumphs the lion of the tribe of Judah". St. Peter's Square and the basilica behind it occupy a small valley located between the Vatican and Janiculum hills. It is the closest square, in a certain sense, to the heart of Catholicism; the large oval colonnade has always been considered the figure of two large arms that maternally envelop the faithful. Visitors to St. Peter's Basilica, be they pilgrims with devotion or tourists with cultural interest, from all over the world and of all races and languages, here always begin by admiring and enjoying the breadth and harmony of the space and shapes, the rush of the flowery obelisk of a thousand legends, the roar of the two copious fountains, enveloped by the sky of Rome which "is always beautiful, and not only when it is as beautiful as that of Lombardy". During the Christmas period it is erected at center of St. Peter's Square, just in front of the Basilica, a large Christmas tree. The tradition of installing a Christmas tree in honor of the holiday is a relatively recent practice, which began in 1982 under the pontificate of John Paul II. The first tree came from Italian soil; from that moment on, donating the Christmas tree for St. Peter's Square has become an honor, and the Vatican accepts the tree as a gift, each year coming from a different European region [12]. Next to the Christmas tree, 70 statues are installed, which want to represent scenes from the Nativity.

a famous and very well-known place, not only thanks to the Pope himself, but also to the countless films that show this sacred place... everyone really has to see it, the atmosphere of this place speaks for itself and it makes you stop for a moment and think about where the time is... we were here on Monday and on the Sunday before, there were some religious services here, so there were chairs scattered in the square and it was not possible to walk a short distance to the basilica, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a wonderful place

  • 5/5 Luke E. 2 years ago on Google
Love crowds? Then look no further! Whether you’re here for a visit inside the basilica, for a service, or just to be blessed by the pope, you’ll be standing in line more than you have your entire life. The line really isn’t as bad as it looks, it moves quite quickly. Do NOT fall for the “line cutting” scams that people all around the square will be offering you. It’s simply not true and you will lose your money. There is no fast-track to get in. Complaining aside, this square is breathtaking in scale and grandiosity. Definitely worth a visit to look inside and out.

  • 5/5 R. S. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful square. A visual delight and of course a nod to the grandeur of the Vatican. Lots of lines as always, and also people trying to sell you a ticket into the Vatican which I am not sure if it's legal.. As for most things in Italy. Always book and purchase tickets beforehand which will make the day and entry much more easier.

The square will make you feel tiny! Because it's like it's made by giants, for giants! It's a marvelous structure that you will want to spend time to take photos and selfies! It also serves as a queue to get into the Saint Peter's Basilica. I would advise you to go there off-season so you do not wait in the sun for hours.

This is a must see! I'm not a religious person but felt very privileged to be there during Palm Sunday and see the Pope as he drove past us and blessed the crowds. The atmosphere and respect from those around you was really something. It is a def must see.

I recommend to visit. The St. Peter's Square seems large in TV but in reality it's not too much big. Very crowded especially during holidays, not allowed to get during the audience. Worth to visit.

I had the privilege of visiting Vatican City and the Obelisk of St. Peter's Square and it was a memorable experience. The architecture and artwork are truly stunning, and it's hard to believe that so much beauty can be packed into such a small place. Navigating the city was a bit overwhelming, as there are so many things to see and do, but the staff were helpful and provided lots of information to make the most of my visit. I would highly recommend taking a guided tour to fully appreciate all that Vatican City had to offer. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Vatican City for anyone interested in art, history, architecture, or religion. It's truly a one-of-a-kind destination that should be on everyone's bucket list.

This place is huge. It has lots of interesting sculptures and architecture. It does get very busy, and you do have to be careful of pick pockets. If anyone bumps into you, assume the worst. There were lots of men who kept approaching people asking if they had tickets. One kept trying to get female teenagers to 'go on a private tour with him'. There were police officers present, but they stood around not doing anything.

“I think the word "Welcome" is the key word for understanding the whole Piazza San Pietro as we call it. The idea approaching this building with so much history behind it. The site goes back 2000 years in Christian history and yet not being welcomed by the overwhelming presence of almost a defensive building, by that or just the overwhelming wall of history, but with open arms. I think the great gift of St. Peter’s Piazza is this colonnade that seems to reach out and almost welcome the pilgrims into the fold and gather them into this space first and foremost as a community centered around that obelisk which you see in the center. And as we center around that obelisk, that obelisk drives us back 2000 years in history." - Liz Lev, Art Historian on St. Peter's Square (EWTN Vaticano)

According to one version, the ashes of Julius Caesar are kept in a metal ball at the top of the obelisk, according to another - a part of the cross on which Jesus was crucified. Such are the turns of history! What is true here is not known. But any option is beautiful and worthy of a pen, brush or such an impressive monument! По одной версии в металлическом шаре на вершине обелиска хранится прах Юлия Цезаря, по другой - часть креста на котором распят Иисус. Такие вот повороты истории! Что здесь истинно, про то не ведомо.
