What a great place! Not so far from Budapest, but far enough to feel like you got out of the city. There’s a little parking area. The walk up to the castle is not so far, but far enough. You won’t be taking an hour+ hike if that’s what you’re looking for. Great place to take younger kids. There aren’t any bathroom facilities, but you also don’t have to pay admission or anything. There are a few benches to sit on. Great place for picnics in the spring and summer.

Short walk up, grand scenery towards Börzsöny mountain range, the Naszály &Cserhát range. Ruins of fortress on steep hill, kids and dogs welcome. Village is quaint, not busting with tourists, despite relatively close to Budapest.

Ruins of the castle of Nògrád. The oldest stone castle of Hungary. The place has a nice vibe and some lovely views

Nice historical place, visit for your own risk only; unfortunately the walls are in quite bad condition. Not much information, but I still liked it, and the view is amazing all around.

One of the most inspiring ruins of castles of the medieval Hungary. You can support maintaining the area by checking foundation ‘Nograd Varanak Megmenteseert Alapitvany’

it was quite cold there and there was no bathroom, but there were people in traditional hungarian clothing and told us all about hungarian history for free.

It was amazing. We were there at some shooting of a Hungarian documentary Varfoglalok. Weather was great.
