Curriculum is up to date which is what I like. However, when my son first began here 4yrs ago I was promised a call every week from the teachers regarding his progress each year. Issue with that? Every year I got less and less calls until the point where I dont get any calls from my sons teacher he now has. They send them home with homework, but dont go over the homework in class. Just check to make sure its done. When brought to there attention that my son is struggling to comprehend/keep up I was told he couldn't get additional help unless he had a diagnosis from his doctor. Their pick up and drop off process is the WORST! Also charging $1 a minute as a pick up late fee. Hopefully your not low income because if you owe more than $25 in fees your child is held accountable by not being able to participate in the school's events/field trips. 3 tardies equals 1 absence but for some reason my son has 8 tardies on his report and some absences. So my guess is they're holding him accountable in both categories. All I have to say is dont be fooled. If your child isn't an overachiever prepare for him/her to be just another face in the crowd, another number in there school. If your child is, great because just as any establishment that is looking for more revenue and make themselves look good the will definitely praise them and make sure they are the face of their school. It's funny I thought about my 3 close friends I've recommended this school to and all 3 have already transferred their children to another neighborhood school (2 which have never moved addresses). This year, I plan to do the same. It's no wonder all the teachers at this school leave after being here only a year.

When I started my daughter at Great Lakes I initially loved the school. However that changed when my scholar and high scorer all of a sudden had over 20 plus days of absence while remote learning. My daughter was in school everyday on time participating, etc (I worked from home so I made sure she was in class everyday). So up until I transferred her this past June. The communication was horrible starting with the principal who never got back to me with his so call investigation. How can a student as smart as my daughter be absent those many days and have the grades and test scores she produced. Not only that but no teacher reached out ever if there was a attendance issue. Which let me know that Mr. Chavez who marked her absent consistently from what I was told by the principal clearly wasn't doing his job and taking attendance properly because how can you mark present students absent. Until this day I never received a reason or resolution to this issue. As a parent who has always been adamant about my child's attendance and education I her parent deserved a resolution with this error corrected instead of a inconsistent lie. I would never recommend any parent allow this to happen to their child. I don't recommend this school do to their lack of communication, professionalism, consistency, and resolution. Last I updated my child's address on two different times providing updated license and a current bill with the address they never updated it in the system and on her transfer the address was still showing our old address. I presented the information twice because they didn't update it the first time. It just shows inconsistencies that they definitely have to improve. I am happy she is at another school. She was so upset that her teacher had marked her absent her words to me was mommy I am always in classs why would my teacher tell a story on me. At that moment I chose to move her from that environment.

I wish I did more research befor sending both my kids to this school one of my students have been getting picked on by two other students .don’t look for a call from the teachers or the dean they will never call you after emailing the teachers they then want to call and act like they don’t know what happen. Majority of these teachers keep saying that this is their first year here and they never seem to notice nothing that’s going on with the students because they are not paying attention . After talking to the assistant principal her only excuse is they are understaffed unacceptable. I will not be sending my kids to the school next year

The school is amazing! The parents are involved and welcomed. The teachers care about the well-being of the students and their education. We need more schools like this one.

The new Assistant principal is very harsh and treats the new teachers like dirt. She has bullied several teachers out of their jobs. Specifically minority teachers! She is rooted in favoritism and crosses physical boundaries with the students.

Great school. The scholars are encouraged & challenged to become positive people who contribute to a healthy society. The staff is helpful and my scholar is particularly excited for school before and after.
