A memorial built in memory of Malayalam’s great poet, Kumaranasan at his birthplace at Kayikkara. An auditorium and a library is also working under the Asan Memorial Association. Renaissance poetry began in Malayalam at the beginning of the 20th century and with Kumaran Asan’s ‘Veenapoovu’ in 1907 renaissance on romanticism began in Malayalam. The author of Veenapoovu, Nalini, Leela Sree Budhha Charitham, Chintavishtayaya Seetha, Karuna and many other immortal pieces were penned by N.Kumaran Asan who was born on 12 April 1873 at Kayikkara Village, Chirayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram. When the poet died in a boat accident at Palana River, he was 51 years old. The Asan Memorial Association was registered at Kayikkara in 1957 during the chief ministership of R.Sankar. An auditorium and an office building were built in 1971. In 1973, during the centenary celebrations of Kumaran Asan, a library started working. A remarkable step of the association is the introduction of Asan World Prize (The title ‘Asan’ refers to a scholarly person). The recipients of Asan World Prize have been writers selected from different countries. It was at the age of 35 that ‘Veenapoovu’ was first published. A landmark in the history of Malayalam Literature, at its 100th year, the then Chief Minister, V.S Achuthanandan declared that the prize money has been enhanced to Rs.3 lakhs. So also, Asan's 125th birthday was celebrated in a big way.

It is a calm, quiet place. But the buildings and compound is in a dilapidated condition due to lack of maintenance and cleaning. It may be due to prolonged close down related to COVID-19. But is time that the authorities should look into this correct it

Every malayali should visit here at least once. This is the birth place of one of the renowned Malayalam poets "Mahakavi Kumaran Asan" who was born on April 12, 1873, in a merchant family belonging to the Ezhava community in Kayikkara village, Chirayinkeezhu taluk, Anchuthengu Grama Panchayat  in Travancore. Here we can see a bronze statue of Asan and the Lower Primary School where, Asan studied when he was young and when grown up, taught as a teacher. Behind the memorial, on a walk away distance is the sea shore.

It was closed on Saturday. But you can enter through two gateways, one a side entry via a school and the other via main gate. As explore we can get through yo a beautiful beach on its backside. It seems poorly maintained. Solar panels have rusted. The interlocking tiles is the worst you can see in a natural landscape like this.

Great experience, kayikkara is the birth place of Kumaranasan. Asan is one of the greatest poet, social reformer and activist of 19th century and he is the main disciple of Sree Narayana Guru. His poems are completely against the caste based society existed in Kerala and he fought for a socialist society. He is known as "kayikkarayile kadal" among the Malayalam critiques.

A pilgrimage location for literary people, especially poetry lovers, the Kumaran Ashan Memorial stands here in his birthplace with proud remembrance of a great and successful man. A place with natural attraction of sea shore and visitors friendly constructions. Ash an statue istall. There are his poetical words fixed on the walls.

A place to remember our great poet Mahakavi Kumaran Asan. A beach is also there at walkable distance. But sorry to say that Asan Smarakam is very poorly maintained.

Calm and refreshing ambiance.Close to the sea. Many developmental activities are going on, but need more consideration from the authorities because the place is a gem and can be made into a popular tourist and literature destination.

The Place of Memorial for Kumaranasan, a famous poet in Malayalam language is situated at Kayikkara in Anjuthengu panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram District in the background of Arabian Sea. Lot of open spaces, a huge status of Kumaranasan, an auditorium nearby. A must visit place for Literature enthusiasts
