This is the year of its centenary, excellent service to go up to the sanctuary and enjoy the fresh view. Among other things, you can't wait to get out of the cabin, it's very hot. When I arrived there was no one, a maximum of 20 people can go up. When I got off at the start there was a lot of queue. Journey time 15 minutes. Return ticket €3. The ride takes 10 min, and they leave every 15 min both up and down. 15 people fit inside one ride. 3€ for a two-way ticket and 2€ for a one-way ticket. For our day it said the last ride down was at 19:50 (it was a Friday in July). The view is really beautiful up there by the church, so I recommend going there!

Lovely experience 🥰. The both trains diverge in the middle as if in a small roundabout. Really unique.

Kleine süße Bahn die einen für 2€ auf den Berg bringt. Tickets gibt es Vorort und können nur in Bar gekauft werden.

This was not available when we visited in May. The kiosk was closed. The funicular was not running. We presumed it was because it was out of season. We walked the stairs. They are steep but the pay off when reaching the top was well worth the effort.

I didn't like riding the elevator. The surroundings are not beautiful. It was expensive for just a small ride. It's very slow and noisy. l preferred going up in my car. If you don't have a vehicle to go up to see the church, then it is better to take the elevator.

If you aren't trained to climb long stairs (check the pucture) better to use the funicular. 3€ to go and to come back. 2€ one way.

Great panoramic views. Beautiful architecture and nice open space. €3 round trip (last one at 17.50). Totally recommended.

Sure beats walking about 900 stairs but it was fun to and plenty of exercise walking down. A very warm ride if it is sunny.

The elevator does not have ac keep that in mind, we were in autumn and it was pretty warm in there, i wonder how it is in the summer heat

Worth to try, nice attraction and fast way to the Sanctuary. Only 2-3 eu (depends one or both sides).

Best way for a walker to get the hill to see Santa luzia and the panoramic views at the top. Return trip is cheap, but in summer that cab gets mighty hot and very stuffy. Try missing the heat of the day in other words

Great way to reach the top of the city. 3€ for the two way ticket.

This elevator is the most modern in Portugal, but also the oldest (from 1920s). It is around 10 min ride to the too which is the time it takes to catch the next one, as there are two operating at the same time. In the middle of the trip, the railway splits into two enabling the two cars to pass each other. On the top you will find a amazing Santa Lucia church with some breathtaking views at the city.

A long wait by the side of a busy road (c.45 mins) but great views on the way up and easier than the walk. Got a one way ticket and walked down the steps which run alongside and also give great views

Really enjoyed the experience, would recommend it for the experience of travel and to see the Cathedral and the views.

Quick journey up and down - about 7min, and cheap. No AC inside de tram, so really hot during summer. Ideal if you don't want to drive all the way up.

The Elevador de Santa Luzia is actually a funicular ride and not an elevator as is commonly known in English. Nonetheless, it is a fun, 5- minutes ride to the top of the hill where the church is located. One way tickets are 2€ per person, and the roundtrip is 3€. You can walk up the 600+ steps of you choose to but in order to enjoy the experience, it is best to ride the "Elevador" up and then walk down. Each car seats about 8-10 people with standing room for another 8-10 and they depart every 15 minutes. The cars are not original or historic and they can be a cleaned up a bit, especially the windows and the seats!

I'd give 0 stars but it's not possible. Coming from the Camino from Esposende we are tired and dusty, we need to get to the top to our albergue. Everywhere (including Google) says it's open, but suprise surprise, IT'S NOT. Terrible and demoralizing. Call yourself a taxi, should cost the same and they will function always.

A must do before walking the Camino. The church is quite unique and sets the tone if you want a spiritual Camino. With a square middle and round corners, the stained glass circles are quite attractive. And the funicular is fun too

Single trip is 2euro, round trip is 3euro. It takes about 7 minutes to save a lot of time and energy. Santa luzia is really worth to visit.

Very cool funicular! Luzia spiral staircase was a bit claustrophobic but what a view!!!
