Absolutely beautiful 😍 We had a blast going up to the 🔝! When we were there the elevator was not working so we climbed up the stairs. You need to be able to go up stairs for a good 5 - 10 minutes or maybe more! There is one spot that shows you a green light to go and a red light to stop 🛑 so the ones going the opposite direction can get through because it’s that TIGHT!! But once your up on the top you have an incredible view 😊 We went at sunset 🌅 that made it even more gorgeous! Although a little nerve wracking the beach view is spectacular! 🌟♥️🌟 We parked our RV here at the top of the hill no problem about a 5 minute walk from the church!

An amazing view of the town and a lovely Basilica. The drive up is via a winding road and at the top there is parking. If you don’t have a car there is a Funicular from the town to the basilica. Reasonable priced. We parked at the top of the hill and went down to walk around the town - it worked out very well.

Breathtaking. A must visit. One of the more beautiful overlooks I have seen. Located on a hilltop in the northern city of Viana do Castelo, overlooking the Lima river valley and the Atlantic coast. You can reach the sanctuary by car, by funicular (fun for the kids) or by climbing the steps from the city if you want a workout.

A very pleasant church to visit, one of the most attractive spots in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church is beautiful and it is possible to climb (paying) to the top. There is a cable car that takes people near the church, some souvenir shops, a picnic park, an amphitheater and an excellent viewpoint. Along with the Gil Eanes Hospital Ship and the costume museum, it is the most important place to visit in the city.

The Santuário de Santa Luzia in Viana do Castelo, Portugal is an amazing icon of the city with a fabulous dome ceiling. Please, please, please come here for the gorgeous sunsets and sunset views. So many people come here to watch the sun sink into the ocean and to see amazing city and river views that it is also a wonderful people meeting and watching place.

We drove all the way up in the car, so no opinion on how to get there using public transportation, which is excellent in Portugal. We recommend cloudy day for not to be blinded ("overexposed") by the reflecting ocean. Rose window nicely lights the interior. Smaller windows around the dome do not contribute as much. There is a way to walk to the gallery around the dome, however, it was closed that day. Consider donating a coin or two : all goes towards restoration (a crowdfunding, of a sort). Enjoy your visit! Hope this helps.

We were almost put off visiting this site as the cable car was closed. The climb was worth it though...beautiful views & even a wedding taking place. The cafe up there was.also very good and much needed refueling after that climb...

This place has an incredible sunset, from where you can see the whole city. Easy access and unmissable. Preferably going on a cloudless day close to sunset. Take the opportunity to visit the majestic church that gives its name to the place.

Gorgeous of one of the most interesting and beautiful cities that n Portugal. The cathedral is beautiful, but the main attraction is the top of the cathedral, if you are not afraid of heights, you can go to the top and get almost a 360 view for the city, for the river, mountains and to the shipyard.

Always taking centre place in any view of the city, this church (a fairly recent one, finished around 1954) provides a great viewing point of the surrounding lands and city below, while featuring a small interior, albeit dominated by rose windows and painted abode. Quite a fair climb up to it, especially as the elevator was out of order at the time. Up to you to decide if the view is worth it.

Great place to conclude the Letap de Tour cycling event. From this vantage point one has a wonderful view of the countryside . Pro tip: there's an elevator to get to the viewpoint at the top of the sanctuary for those who can't manage the 180+ narrow and steep stairs to see why National Geographic calls this one of the most beautiful views in the world

An epic location for a cathedral. The trip to the top of the tower gives you 360 degree views on a clear day. The steps up will test you ;)

Funicular was in maintenance, but the road up is in good condition, considering the natural terrain. Worth the visit, the basilica is beautiful and the view of Viana amazing, even on a rainy day.

This is an amazing church that is magnificent inside. The views from the top are incredible. I loved the sea views and the views of the distant mountains. There are shops and a hostel adjacent to the church.

Truly an amazing experience, especially from the very top. When light turns green many ignore the fact that others are either waiting to go up to top, or descend back done. Another plan needs to be figured out so this will be more organized for all.

Beautiful monument! Too bad it was too foggy to enjoy the great views. Even so, just to witness this beautiful sanctuary, it's worth the journey up there. It will mesmerize you how big and imponent it is. Beautiful outside and inside and if you have the opportunity to visit the viewpoint in one of the towers even more noticeable it will become

This sanctuary is located at the top of the hill, giving spectacular panoramic views of the city and the coast line. When we went, unfortunately there was a lot of fog. Nevertheless, we could see the view every now and then. Apart from the view, the sanctuary itself is beautiful and well-maintained. The artwork in the interior is to die for.

Very peaceful place, with an excellent view of the city (Viana do Castelo). I recommend taking the lift to the top of the church for an even better view and experience - by doing so, it is possible to see the very old and amazing old stone walls of the church. All the places are accessible to everyone, inside the church and out (lift not included). It is possible to eat outside as there are parks with stone tables and benches.

The place where the famous duoro river begins, is also the mouth of the sea. The heart church of jesus located on the top of the mountain is a wonderful architectural place to visit. 15:00 every day everyone will pray together
