If you are staying on Mahe, you must visit. There is a one hour free tour around the distillery 3 times a day. For 125 rupees you can also participate in a delicious rum tasting. The distillery is home to two tortoises, Taka and Maka, who are very keen on being pet. There is a small spice garden in the back, too. We also enjoyed the coctail bar in the garden.

If you’ve ever been to a distillery, you can skip it. It’s all the same stuff, with just a bit of local history. If you’ve never seen one, it’s a nice experience. Very nice location and interesting grounds. They don’t always distill, so check that before you make a trip, because you may just look at the empty warehouse.. The rum - white rum is horrible, as they usually are. Dark rums are very nice, delicate, not overly complex, but it makes a nice sipping rum and a great souvenir. In the shop it costs 150 rupees for a small bottle, 285 for 1L one, so pretty much the same price as everywhere on the islands. The “San Andres” (or something similar) ages dark rum costs about 800 rupees, but I’ve seen it at the airport for 400. Didn’t try the restaurant, but it’s run a Belgian, so I wouldn’t except overly local cuisine.

The one hour tour, which includes the past of the estate, various plants in the garden and then the process of making rum, is quite nice, but - in terms of botany - of course not comparable to destinations like the magnificent Fort Ferdinand (I found this here a bit off topic). The highlight was the amusing rum tasting, where 6 sorts are presented and tested. In my opinion there are some interesting sorts (we liked the rum with coconut and pineapple flavour, highlight was the Saint André, matured for 8 years in wooden barrels). A little tip - Saint André doesn't seem to be available in Germany (cheaper than in the Seychelles), all other sorts are available at Amazon. If you have booked a direct flight to your home country, you should go to the duty free shop, where the rum is cheaper than here, if you have booked a transit flight, you can buy it at the distillery (otherwise the rum from the duty free shop of the airport will be collected at the hand luggage control at the next airport).

Some of the best island rum available. Unfortunately, they don't ship to foreign markets (that I've seen in/around the US) or households, so those tourists will have to buy and carry. Beautiful old distillery grounds will an informative tasting tour.

Amazing local distillery. Free guided tour lasts for more than an hour, but the guide is very friendly, authentic and excited and it makes the tour very nice. And the rum tasting in the end makes it a really unique experience.

The place is nice, we tried the rum yesterday and we liked it so we went to the distillery today to know more! The tour self guided is nice but they offer free guided tours as well, the crowd was big and nobody wore a mask so we did not join! There is an option to try all the premium rums, very nice variety but the guy explaining it was visibly bored about my questions. They have a nice shop on premises too, I just wish they had smaller bottles too as option or tasting panel boxes, that would be more travel friendly! Nevertheless we bought a quite a few bottles😉 great experience of history

Good tour with guide for free at 11AM, 1PM,3PM with tasting, after that you can buy something in their shop. Also you can go for a walk via garden, where you can see some spicies, herbs, trees, etc.. And snails🤭 🐌🐌🐌🐚🐚🐚

I just bought a small bottle without trying it, because the tasting was a bit too expensive… almost as much as a full bottle, which doesn’t make sense at all. The place is really nice, there are interesting signs explaining the history of Seychelles and the area outsides with the bar is nice and relaxing. They have two tortoises but they were shy and hiding when I visited

Great rum tour, Radica was amazing at telling the story of the journey of the rum industry in Seychelles. Would highly recommend this place for history of rum. The rum tasting was also great and the food on site is very yummy.

Nice distillery and great tour with some pinch of history about the Seychelles :) The location is quite nice place and it has a parking. It also has a small Takamaka shop (rum and other souvenirs). The tour is completely free and around 30/45 minutes, but you can pay 150 SR to add some tasting session (either 6 standard rums or 3 selected old rums). The tour does not need to be booked, but it's at 11, 13 and 15 from Monday to Friday, and at 11 and 14 on Saturdays (the website only says Monday to Friday, but I'm attaching a photo with the tours on Saturday too). Finally, it seems that Friday's night the place is open as well... No tour, no shop, but you can have some rum/cocktails and enjoy some music :) Definitely a good/original visit in Mahe that I'd recommend!

This was a good Seychelles rum experience. The staff were good. The rum tasting as well. Lunch from the food van was okay. And we had one of the best colada cocktails ever. Total worthy it for a visit. Also had an opportunity to participate in a customer experience survey from one of the university student here in Seychelles. Everything was good 😊.

Had an amazing experience here. We took the 11 AM guided tour that takes 30 mins to complete plus the (optional) 15 mins rum tasting. The guide was amazing, very funny and very informative overall. Cocktails were on point and the experience overall something to try once in Seychelles. It's a must!

Some wonderful rums here, for sure try their reserve range. Expensive bit worth every rupee. Very pleasant grounds & a nice, original plantation style building offering rum tastings & food. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth visiting. Oh and did I mention the delicious range of rum 🍹!!

It’s closed for tourists and visitors due to Covid....(at least in October 2020). But you can taste the rum everywhere on the islands, the cocktails are great. It’s probably the cheapest deal to buy the bottles at the duty free shop at the airport since the factory shop is closed...

We had a lovely meal at the restaurant. Very nice back garden, with tables overlooking trees and mountain, we really enjoyed the cocktails and just chilling with bird sounds. Then we went for a distillery tour, our guide was very nice and we really enjoyed learning about the history of the place. Recommended if you have a few hours to spare

(Translated by Google) The place is highly recommended. It is an extensive area with a lot of nature. A tour and the accompanying explanations are important. Everything can be tried in the small shop even without a tour. But be careful: too much is not good for the climate conditions :) Takamaka is easy to reach by bus. (Original) Der Ort ist sehr empfehlenswert. Es ist ein weitläufiges Gelände mit viel Natur. Eine Führung und die dazugehörigen Erklärungen sind wichtig. Lovely run distillery in Seychelles. A must-visit during a day tour of Mahe. The staff are welcoming and friendly and lots of picturesque spots on the grounds to take photos. Also, you'll find souvenirs (honey, rum, etc) to take home and give your friends a true taste of the island paradise.

Fantastic tour! She really loves to speak. I loved her enthusiasm and energy! Remember to bring and apply mosquito repellent, lots of mosquitoes at the backyard. There is a tortoises pen too! Rum tasting was the exciting part. Don’t miss it, think it is @1130 & 1330. It’s a must!!!

Visited this rum distillery as part of a tour and it was nice to see. When we walked through the store we were able to try the different rum flavours. It had a rum shack where you could purchase a drink. There was a part where a tour guide explained how the rum is made and created and can see the equipment used to make the rum. It had a small museum where you could purchase things and at the back there was a restaurant offering food. Overall, there wasn’t much to do or much going on but a nice place to visit.

We took the free tour at 15 and it was really nice and fun. The tour was about 30-45 minutes, enough to be informative but not straining. Afterwards we did the tasting which was also fun! We stayed for a cocktail and enjoyed the grounds. Sadly, someone puked in the bathroom, so the smell there wasnt to good, but that is not the distillery s fault :)

What a lovely vibe this place is! The blue colours on the island really makes this quite a relaxing place to hang around in. There is a free tour that you can take the text about 45 minutes and after which you can do a rum tasting for 150 rupees which is totally worth it as they explain every flavour. The tour guide we had was super friendly, very funny and very knowledgeable about what goes on. Once you finished your rum tasting, you can grab a bite to eat at the little restaurant/ food stand and even have more cocktails. If you are not driving. Well worth the visit!

My boyfriend and I visited the distillery as part of a tour and had a great time checking out the historic building, the history of it and - of course - the rum tasting! Charming Lawrence did a fantastic job of explaining the rum differences, the ingredients and what to mix it with! Recommend!

This is an awesome free activity with a very reasonably priced rum tasting offered at the end. The ground are beautiful but the mosquitoes are wild! Make sure you spray beforehand. I had lunch and a cocktail on-site and both were delicious.

The weather was a bit rainy when we visited, but regardless of that the free guided tour was a really great experience. Our tour guide was really enthusiastic and told us the story of the distillery and production of rum in an enjoyable and interactive way which took around 1 hours. After that we had a paid rum tasting sessions with her, where we could taste 6 different kind of rum, with their backstories/flavour profile. There is also a small souvenir shop there where you can buy Takamaka merch and 350-700ml rums (the 1l version you can only get at the airport).

What can we say. I have toured and visited my fare share of Distilleries and wineries around the world. Takamaka ranks up there with the best I have seen in Kentucky, Tennessee, California Wineries and Tequila Mexico. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We would have gone back on Sunday but sadly they are closed

It was a nice experience touring the distillery. The actual part in the rum-making process is pretty short. Most of the time was spent on the history and background of the place. It gave a basic understanding of how the brand came about. Part of the tour was in the gardens behind the building. The only bad thing was that there were lots of mosquitoes there. Everyone in the group was feasted upon. So put lots of repellent! Rum tasting was nice, resulting in quite some sales at the end. The tour took approximately an hour and costs 150 rupees per adult.

It's a must to stop at the Takamaka rum distillery when you pass through the Seychelles, in addition to looking at the distillery and tasting their rum, you get a tour of the estate dating back almost 300 years.

Excellent cocktails! Signature cocktails, i even had a special from the Barman: I liked the Takamaka extra dark so I simply asked him and I made one perfectly meeting my expectations. Bitter & citrus… wonderful! Strongly recommend you to spot by and give it a try. I would suggest to review the setup tho; the shack is nice, the spot is great but the set up isn’t comfy…

Lovely little distillery with a pretty house and gardens. Have a taster of the different rums and stroll the gardens. Takes 30min or less depending on how much time you want and is a great add on to a site seeing day.

Nice place with distillery history. Nice to see couples of big turtles living there as attraction (whatever is sounds like) - me preferably would like to see them free on the beach, nevertheless it is a super experience. Nice bar in the garden but expensive. Bottle of rum costs twice much than on Europe. Shop in Germany sells for 13€ per 0.7l - here almost 23€… in the place that they are producing it !!! This is why you have 4/5 stars

A beautiful distillery set in pleasing grounds and provides rum tasting experience. i didnt do rum tasting though, but took their tour where they explained how rum is made. they have a plantation style building tht houses small museum and gift shop. overall, wonderful experience! highly recommended to visit if you are in Seychelles.

  • 5/5 Mirjana R. 8 months ago on Google
We had a degustation tour in the distillery, they told us how rum is produced and we tasted all types they have. We were told that during degustation we can drink as much rum as we want, but actually, we could ask for only one shot of rum after we finished tasting. Here you can buy rum in bottles of different sizes. Also they have their own merchandise such as t-shirts, bags, hats… There is a petite park, where you can see different tropical plants and also tortoises. I really enjoyed it here. Highly recommend visiting and rum tasting 👌

  • 5/5 Svetlana I. 8 months ago on Google
I cannot recommend this place enough. This is not just a rum distillery as you could expect. They preserve their history - the maison itself, the spice garden, the ruins of the old kitchen - everything is being taken care of and shown and explained to the visitors during one of the three free excursions per day. Everything is kept in perfect order. The place itself is so peaceful - this is where you can just sit on a chair in their beautiful garden and stay forever. If you are going on an excursion, make sure you arrive some time in advance to be able to park inside - there is not that much space, especially taking into the account that tourist excursion (mini) busses also park inside. Their excursions are free, for the rum tasting you'll have to pay SCR 150 per person (not too much really). And also do take 15% discount vouchers at the cash register for their bar in the airport 😊 Their bar and food are really good and worth staying for longer. For me this appeared to be a place I would love to visit again. And surely they have their own giant tortoises - Taka and Maka 😁

Wonderful experience on Takamaka distillery. Excursion was wonderful, special thank to Radica, who made this excursion most interesting and informative. Excursion available at 11, 13, 15 o'clock and it is free. Rum tasting is 150 sc for some rums to chose or 300sc for all rums tasting. After you can seat at cozy garden and order some tasty coctails from the bar.

Probably because there wasn't much to see in the distillery. There were far too many people in the tour. (Translated by Google) Good day. I will say this - if someone is interested in dedication, it is worth taking a look, but will not see much. The distillery was founded in 1800 and it is not a large facility. We entered alone and without a guide, because you can go with such a group before noon, but I personally consider it a waste of time. The restaurant on site, but on 07.10.2019 it was closed, in one small peninsula with bridzik 2 turtles, Old kitchen ruins, souvenir building and rum shop, and distillery building. Worth seeing, but in my opinion just like us - without paying for the guide. The price of rum in the gift shop is the same as in a normal shop. Pozdrawiam serdecznie
