went
in
last
night
around
7.30pm,
sat
at
a
table
which
had
a
note
with
"reserved
from
8.30pm"
on
it.
I
wasn't
planning
to
stay
longer
than
half
an
hour,
so
didn't
think
there'd
be
a
problem.
but
there
was!
waiter
(40s/50s,
short
grey
hair),
came
over
after
a
couple
of
minutes
and
told
me
that
the
table
was
reserved
and
I'd
therefore
have
to
move.
i
pointed
out
that
the
reservation
wasn't
until
8.30.
He
said
"no,
that's
a
mistake,
it's
just
reserved,"
and
crossed
out
the
time
on
the
piece
of
paper.
I
asked
when
the
people
were
going
to
come
and
he
replied,
impatiently,
"15
or
20
minutes.
Just
move,
please."
A
little
rude,
I
thought,
even
though
he
did
say
please.
What
struck
me
as
strange
was
that
there
was
an
identical
adjacent
table
with
no
reservation
and
the
same
number
of
seats
around
it,
and
all
he
had
to
do
--
rather
than
having
me
go
to
the
bother
of
moving
(myself,
my
coat,
bag,
computer
etc)
was
move
the
reservation-slip
from
one
table
to
another!
I
ended
up
staying
a
bit
longer
than
anticipated
--
long
enough
to
see
that
nobody
actually
came
to
the
reserved
table
until
shortly
after
8.30pm,
making
me
conclude
that
the
reservation
was
indeed
always
for
8.30pm.
Overall
I
think
this
is
a
very
strange
(and
somewhat
inexplicable)
way
to
treat
a
customer.
And
it's
a
shame,
because
the
pub
is
otherwise
OK,
with
good
Guinness.
But
there
are
other
places
in
the
city
just
as
good
where
the
service
isn't
so
gratuitously
annoying/mystifying.
