Buxbaum Restaurant

Restaurant

👍👍 The best food, service and ambient in Vienna for me. The restaurant though in the centre of the city is tucked away in a mews type court yard and very quite and pleasant. Highly recommended for that special occasion without costing the earth. People often mention restaurant, service, good, Vienna, quality, menu, experience, nice, wine, atmosphere,

Stopped for a drink, past lunch time, 6 tables free… they wanted us to stand so we left… good location though. We complained. No answer.

Short: Not cheap but simply brilliant! Long: Very good restaurant in the city center, close to the "Stephansdom" and other attractions. The food is of high quality and delicious taste, they offer a friendly and informative service (details about wine etc) and a broad selection of wines and spirits to enjoy - all that in a beautifully decorated and clean environment. It's easy to reach via public transport. Pricing is on the higher side but justified by the quality.

We took 4-course set menu with wine pairing. Basically, 2 waiters served our table; one was friendly but another was rude. Moreover, the fish, mackerel, was really fishy (smelly), which you don't expect from a good quality restaurant. Definitely a very disappointing experience.

My partner and I had the 5 course menu. The service was excellent. I had a request in my booking and we had a few smaller requests during the evening, all of which were promptly taken care of very professionally. The two waiters we had were very kind and attentive. The only thing I could mention, if i was very critical, was that I did not receive any notification beforehand wether or not my request on the booking was possible or not. The food was very good. A few dishes stood out way more than others. Ironically the bread was one of my favorites although that was just an appetizer and not part of the 5 course meal. Overall all courses, but the dessert were delicious. The dessert was a bit disappointing in the taste, considering that its the course you finish on you would expect it to be the best or on par with the rest. In our opinion it was worth the price and a tasty experience, generally speaking. The ambience there is great. It all feels very cozy. The air conditioner has a refreshing temperature, but not too cold. The lights are warm and maybe a little bit too dim, but overall feel comforting. The interior design is beautiful and the table placement allowed for a private feeling. There was one very unpleasent experience, which destroyed the ambience for us towards the end. A couple with a toddler at around 9pm took a table in the same room. The toddler kept repeatedly screaming and making other irritating and loud noises, which is of course very annoying. I do not understand why someone would take their newborn to a high class restaurant. In my opinion babys have no place in such a restaurant and I would have liked for them to either get a seperate emtpy room or for the restaurant to simply not allow newborns as guests so they dont disturb the others. Aside the last unlucky note, overall a very pleasent and worthwhile experience.

I had the best asparagus soup ive had ever. My partner returned her meal (overcooked the beef) , and they handled it exceptionally well. Very good service altogether. Not cheap but was worth the money for us .

On the fine dining side. That potato salad which was given with Schnitzel is very good. Figlmüller has the better schnitzel though :)

We were 2 for lunch on December 31st. The atmosphere and location are splendid... the restaurant sits in a quiet courtyard and inside you have beautiful arched walls and ceilings. It's minimalist but with taste which gives a relaxed atmosphere. The service was efficient and friendly. The food was really excellent (maybe the best Wiener schnitzel I've ever had). I would for sure go back next time I'm in Vienna.

Great elegant atmosphere in a calm corner of central Vienna. The service was attentive and professional. The food sizes and quality is appropriate for the price.

Hidden restaurant gem. Absolutley stunning food and atmosphere. Definitly worth a visit from time to time, since its a bit pricey.

Restaurant is in a tucked away courtyard which was nice. The potato dumplings with caviar were SO good! My husband had the truffle turbot and said it was one of the most delicious meals ever. I had the chicken which was ok (that’s what I get for ordering chicken!) the service was ok, very slow. It took us over 2 hours to eat 2 courses.

Truly a hidden gem in Vienna! Service was lovely and smooth, food was very high quality and delicious and last but certainly not least, the atmosphere was very cozy and relaxed. We've really enjoyed our diner. 10/10 would recommend anyone to visit this place if you happen to be in Vienna! :)

We had a half a day layover in Vienna and spent the afternoon in the city. The Buxbaum restaurant is a bit hidden but a little gem. The decoration is great and creates a good atmosphare. We both had their wiener schnitzel and it was delicous. I for sure will come back the next time when I'm in Vienna. We were lucky and got a place for two as we were early but if you want to be sure you should have a reservation.

Very cozy quiet location with quality food and service, the wine tasting menu was really well matched and innovative. Thanks also to the young lady serving us who was lovely! (Sorry we had to rush away so did not get her name)

Very nice Atmosphere in the heart of Vienna’s first district. Good quality food and a remarkable menu. The employees were very kind and mindful. The restaurant has a good price-performance ratio. Also the furniture is really cute, good location for a date. I would definitely come back :)

TLDR - Bad service, and mediocre food. We came to the restaurant after reading wonderful reviews. From the beginning the service was close to absent. Our waiter switched constantly, service was too slow, and we couldn't find waiters when we needed them. We ordered the 6 course tasting menu. First 3 courses were OK, nothing spectacular. 4th course (celeries with chestnuts) was not good at all, very sour and very unbalanced, also the celery root was almost raw. Needless to say, no one asked if the food was good or if we liked it, until I mentioned it to the waiter. The main course (pork belly) was dry. After 2 consecutive bad courses we decided to leave and skip desert. The waiter then finally offered a free glass of wine for the trouble, but it was too late for us. In addition, the last course was not cleated from our bill, and we paid for the full meal even though we skipped a course. There was no consideration in the bill to the fact we had an unpleasant experience even though the waiter clearly noticed that, which made the final experience even more unpleasent. Do not recommend.

A fantastic restaurant's in the centre of Vienna. Delicious food served in a classy vibe. Excellent service and delicious food made this a memorable place for a fine dining meal. Can't recommend this enough.

Great service... my daughter was not feeling very hungry and the staff seemed genuinely concerned and kept asking if they could do anything for her. The food was delicious, especially my entree (beef cheek - I definitely recommend it.)

Very nice restaurant located in the heart of the Old Town. Good food, freshly prepared and well presented. Good wine list, with many local options. They have both an indoor and outdoor seating area. Good service also.

Amazing testing menu. Amazing decor. Dishes are beautiful and tasty. Staff are professional. Also it’s Michelin recommended. So just 5 stars!

One of the best places to eat in Vienna! The food is original yet familiar, with delicate flavors and an elegant presentation. Cosy atmosphere and very attentive service. A restaurant to visit when you want to treat yourself. We had a 3-course dinner there during restaurant week, as well as a weekday lunch, both were great experiences.

Restaurant was hidden away, and a delight once discovered! Service was super polite and attentive. We had the steak tartare, the chicken, and the pasta dish. All were absolutely fabulous. The steak tartare is the best we've ever had! Amuse bouche was really nice also. Atmosphere was a Saturday night wasn't hectic, it was quite a cosy restaurant. Although we were seated in a walkway, at no point did we feel in the way. Would have liked to have received a drinks menu to choose, but the staff member was helpful in making recommendations. Superb restaurant, would recommend and would definitely return!

I had a small wedding celebration at Buxbaum Restaurant. The place is really nice, the food was exquisite and the service was top notch! The whole crew made us feel really welcome and took good care of us & our guests. Highly recommend!

An amazing place, food was fantastic - some authentic Austrian (for us tourists) and some not so Austrian dishes. The waiter was great, recommended a lovely wine (and reasonable priced) which went with the food. Off the main street so very quiet, highly recommend

A lovely gem well deserving of a Michelin star. My wife and I loved this restaurant. They really solidified our love for food that embraces quality ingredients. The tasting menu was tops, but don't ignore the classics. The schnitzel was to die for.

The restaurant is based in a 400-year old building which is amazing by itself, but the service and quality of food is exceptional. The staff was really helpful and always at our disposal. The entire dining experience was just wonderful and we will definitely visit Buxbaum again.

I went here last night with a few girlfriends. Nice atmosphere and tasty, classy foods. The service was okay and the waiters were partially rude at times . We ordered the creamy white onion soup and that was the hi light of my meal. I would recommend this for a nice upper classy Meal. I would potentially go again on a different night/occasion

I ordered the tasting menu. To my opinion it was a disappointment. Some dishes were too saulty, other were missing taste. The dessert wasn't good.

Meat tar-tar super. Bad wine card, undercooked fish (was raw, which is unaceptable for the freshwater fish), low quality of service (e.g takes over 15 min to bring champagne glasses). Even if the food was spoilt by the kitchen, no apologies and of course they don't take it off the bill. Didn't let us order hot dishes even though it was agreed in advance. Definitely not worth a visit, there are many other good restaurants in Vienna.

It is my first visit to Vienna although I have been to other cities in Austria quite a few times. This restaurant has changed totally my perception of Austrian food. Very nice presentation and the food taste excellent. It is absolutely my best experience in Austria. Also they have a very good wine selection. I will definitely come again.
