Mari's Metcha Matcha

Restaurant

👍 Nice food, good ramen soup even though I’d have preferred sliced meat instead of simple pork belly stripes. Lavender tea also good. Fried chicken soso, probably not home made. Overall ok but don’t expect too much just because they are Japanese cooks. People often mention Japanese, dishes, good, restaurant, experience, Vienna, table, nice, taste, ordered,

I lived in Japan 10 years and after moving back to Europe I really missed a real Japanese food. I’m so happy I discovered Mari’s Metcha Matcha! Absolutely authentic & genuine 🙏♥️

Went there for lunch today. Had tentatively ordered a cold noodle with roasted beef, which was the first recommended dish by the chef, my reasoning being that if the first recommendation was not good enough, then this place would simply be hopeless. But the cold noodles were really good. The use of wasabi combined with yuzu soya source had a very refreshing taste, perfect for a summer day like this. Then I returned immediately for dinner, where I ordered a hot tonkutsu ramen with Hojicha tea. The ramen was also really good, much better than ramens I had in many other European cities. I can also hear people in the kitchen talking to each other in Japanese. Would definitely return next time I’m in Vienna.

Went without reservation and luckily got a table for dinner (reservation recommended). Very attentive and friendly waiter. Was also surprised by the food quality as well. Generous portion and taste is spot on. Love to be back to try some more dishes. Do try the strawberry mocha, really nice.

We had a fantastic meal. The ingredients are very fresh and the bentos are very well balanced and tasty. The restaurant is cozy, service is friendly and fast, and the ceramic is very beautiful. Great experience!

One word to describe this place: Matcha! You will not be disappointed trying their matcha cheese cake, matcha tea or anything else with matcha. The same is valid for any other kind of food, such as their bento menus. Definitely a place to spend some time :-)

We decided last minute to visit the restaurant the day before the first COVID lockdown began. Based on some other ratings we feel so lucky to have experienced Mari’s MetchaMatcha on a pretty quiet day. So, no hassle about the staff being inattentive. The staffs were nice and all smiles. If I’m not mistaken the host even wore Yukata which added a nice touch to it. We even got to choose where we sat. I actually liked every dish we had, Ramen being the least favorite. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. It was good but we’ve had better. I can honestly say this is the best non-sushi, non-nigiri Japanese spot I’ve tried in Vienna. With the decent portion, not too big so you can enjoy dessert after. I also find their price quite reasonable. All in all, if you’re a Japanese food lover it’s worth giving it a try.

We ordered some dishes and it was really good the. It felt like the Bento was made with love, putting a lot of effort into the small dishes complemented the main dish. The raw fish tasted very fresh and the chicken very crispy. Also the the dishes were full of flavor and it was a pleasure to taste the different dishes. We ordered a Toro Kara e Bento a Kenburi-Don and Yakinikku Bento.

Authentic Japanese food in inner city. Pricey but worth it! Tip: you will probably enjoy sitting inside than outside for this one :) Also great place to buy traditional Japanese items.

I strongly recommend this place - the food is top quality and the people are very friendly. I noticed that most of the people working there are Japanese, especially the ones making the food. It really tastes like food in Japan!! 😌😌

Great quality food and definitely authentic. The bento box I ordered was extremely similar to the ones I had in Japan. All ingredients tasted fresh, although I don't believe they use the same rice strain that they do in Japan, based on the texture difference. This is really a nitpick though, and it shouldn't stop you from coming here. The desserts are all on display at the front of the shop, so whatever you see is what you can order. Overall, highly recommended!

The udon and the yakitori tastes AMAZING. It’s both flavorful enough and not too salty (I feel healthy and enjoyed the food a lot). I highly recommend the udon here. It’s a super authentic place for sure. The servers are friendly, and the decor inside are super cute as well.

Great little restaurant! Very cozy atmosphere with great food! We had lunch and got a table without a reservation but i would recommend reserving a table before you come in because it can get very crowded! Ramen was great, and it’s one of the only places i know of that serve mochi with red bean paste!

Great vibe and food! The soup of udon is so nice and balance! Japanese tapas are a bit too salty for me but I think it is authentic. Hoji tea and Genmai tea is norml though. I recommend you to make a Reservation! I’ve seen a few groups of people couldn’t have their dinner here. Friendly staff!

Everything was amazing and tasty. We loved it! I'm sure we will come here again. Everyone is kind and helpful, so if you are not familiar with the foods they will give advice happily. And I definetly recommend the desserts too. The place is also beautiful and you can buy several kind of plates, mugs and chopsticks.

**update** I am happy to say that after leaving my review Mari responded and we were able to return to the restaurant the next day. My husband got his order and loved it! We also got free drinks and a dessert and the staff was so kind and apologetic for the mix up. I really appreciate how they care of their clients and want them to have a great experience!! Even though we had a bad first impression I would definitely come back and recommend this place. The food is amazing!!! My husband and I were visiting Vienna and found this place for dinner. We decided to get take out and we were excited to try the food. Unfortunately when we looked in our bag when we got to where we were staying, only my meal was included- his was completely missing. We ended up sharing my meal which tasted very good but it’s very disappointing when we spend money for only half the food you paid for. We couldn’t go back because as I said we are visitors and can’t call to complain because I don’t that a phone line in Europe. I tried to email them but the email on their website did not work. I rarely leave negative reviews but this was too upsetting to me not to mention.

Great, filling food and a delectable strawberry mochi desert. Staff was very friendly and handled the packed front room not perfectly but well enough that it didn’t take away from the experience. I think this place would be optimal for a group of 4, if more your table will quickly become cramped because of the large dishes and serving trays. Will be coming back with friends to enjoy the great, inviting environment and yummy food!

Authentic Japanese set meal and dishes. We were lucky enough to get a table for 2 on weekend lunch, but better to make booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Must try if in Vienna. Reservation is preferable because they have few tables. In summer one could seat also outside. Try anything and everything. It is delicious.

Let me start with the obvious first, before diving in the criticism. It's a very nice establishment. The waitress is extremely courteous. Elegant Japanese arts and seats are displayed in the restaurant. The dishes, as you can see from various photos, are artfully presented. My set, the sashimi set, was very enjoyable. My criticism, and also the reason why I might not want to revisit, is that it's unnecessarily expensive. The sashimi set was ~18 euros; I think it should be just 15. Nitpicking? Well, Japanese common dishes are famous for their simplicity. Compared to other Asian foods, Japanese foods are not strong in flavor complexity or heat. Ramen is the exception, but that's another story. That means, for 18 euros, you get simple fried vegetables, miso soup, two side dishes, and very little sashimi. And this is a commoner dish. One of my favorite Japanese commoner dish is the rice ball chazuke. It has more flavor complexity and even texture complexity than the sashimi set I got, and yet I know it'd cost less. So yeah, I do feel like I paid extra for the hype. And I do feel it's a bit pretentious.

A bad experience. An ok soup, but than we ordered two Bentos - they were just tasteless, no seasoning, dry and plain bad. Would surely not return there nor recommend it.

It has the authentic Japanese flavor. However, you need to wait for the table and attention (8.15pm). Food was served fast, but a little bit salty; the chicken -karaage bento (but to be fair, salt is always up to the consumer). Staff were polite and friendly. 2 people (dinner + 2 sodas)= 38€

We always loved this place and we came here quite often. The food is impressive - especially the ramen - and authentic. The decor is really tasteful and there's a happy, calm vibe. The price is perfectly in line with what you get. BUT I believe in the last months the personnel changed. We were used to some extremely polite and professional waiters. Last Friday though unfortunately the new personnel decided to: - welcome us telling we had to order everything in one shot (no chance to ask for another beer later on, order now or never). It's true we arrived late but I called in advance asking if it was still okay to come exactly for avoiding this! - start to clean the restaurant while we were still eating, pulling the chairs up on the tables around us - while they were cleaning they brought us the dessert, leaving though all the other empty dishes on our table. Too busy in cleaning the floor for clearing the table, I guess - telling us "okay now we are closing so you need to pay" while we were still rushing in finishing the dessert Honestly, a disgrace. 5 star for the food and the old personnel, 1 star to the current personnel
