👍👍 Very tiny warm restaurant with great Hungarian traditional food! A must try. A great restaurant just few meters from the crowded Stephansplatz in a calm side street. The only thing I regret is that I didn't decide to eat here sooner! This amazing Hungarian restaurant serving a variety of authentic mains (including vegetarian!), starters, soups and desserts was an absolute winner. Everything from the time I was greeted at the entrance to the end when we left our table was 100% fabulous. Our 7 year old son, who is a rather picky eater even enjoyed this restaurant! The food was absolutely superb. So full of flavor, but not overly. Just right. The service was fantastic - probably some of the best I've seen in all of Austria. The owner, chefs and the staff here should really take pride in their restaurant and the work they do. Really, this restaurant is a hidden gem here in Vienna. Absolutely one of the best I've discovered! Will be coming back soon and recommending it to everyone I know. 👍

Very tiny warm restaurant with great Hungarian traditional food! A must try. A great restaurant just few meters from the crowded Stephansplatz in a calm side street. It's all condensed in one room with old style few tables and chairs. The staff is so welcoming and transmitted us a relaxing vibe. Food was brought with great timing. The Goulash, Hungarian Stew 🍲, was so delicious and beef was soft and tender. We also tried the fried mushrooms dish that could be a great delicious vegetarian option instead of the Schnitzel. These come with a nice creme sauce. The pancake with curd cheese filling, two delicious Crêpes covered with chocolate sauce, is the specialty of the house. Prices are really good for the quality and the quantity of food, it's actually lower than other options in the Vienna's center area. 🔝👍

I ordered tasty Hungarian veal goulash with gnocchi with mixed salad. Tasty food, reasonable price, fast service. Just wish the portion size was a bit bigger.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at an outstanding Hungarian restaurant in Vienna, and I cannot speak highly enough of the experience. From the moment I walked through the door with my family, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The menu at this restaurant is a true celebration of Hungarian cuisine, with a wide array of traditional dishes that showcase the rich flavors and culinary heritage of Hungary. Every dish I tried was an absolute delight, bursting with authenticity and expertly prepared with fresh ingredients. One standout dish that I simply cannot forget is the Goulash, which was a perfect balance of tender meat, hearty vegetables, and flavorful spices. The service was exceptional throughout the evening. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and happily provided recommendations based on my preferences. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a charming decor that transported me to Hungary. The attention to detail in creating an authentic atmosphere truly added to the overall experience.

Absolutely very good restaurant. Food is delicious, good meat and good flavors. Very tasty. Staff are very good and helpful and quick service. Outside tables are a bit small and tight. Very good authentic Hungarian food

Got in about 730pm on Thursday night without a reservation. We were lucky there was one table of 4 available. The restaurant is quite small and cozy. We got a hot meat soup, pancake hortobagy (which was excellent) a winter special (a good sharing plate: beef goulash, sausage, fried egg, potatoes), veal goulash with gnocchi and a pancake Ilona. The meal was fantastic but the service was even better. Our waiter spoke English and had the patience to explain the dishes to us. Will definitely come back if it wasn’t our last dinner in Vienna.

Really enjoyed their Hungarian beef goulash and Wien schnitzel with potatoes. I recommend eating out on their patio if weather permits. Servers were very courteous and patient in providing recommendations. If you are lucky sometimes. A piano will be positioned a block away and you'll be able to hear music for free.

This restaurant is a must-try. The waiters here were so delightful and friendly and were able to fluently help us in English. We gave him our order and he was honest enough to tell us we were ordering too much. All the dishes we tried were bang on. The savoury pancake is a must! At the end of our dinner, we were given two free shots of apricot vodka. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing evening meal at Ilona Stürbel. We were seated quickly, food was delicious (and big portions!) and the service was good. Highly recommend for authentic Hungarian food.

Small but very nice restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is very friendly. The roasted beef with onion and fried potatoes is highly recommended, and goes well with the beer.

You need to have a reservation as it is popular and always full. The place is small so it is a bit hard to move around. The food is delicious. A must-try when you are in Vienna and craving for Hungarian food.

Lovely little Hungarian place on a side street in the bustling Vienna city center. Super value for money as it had very big portions (even for the small portions). Highly recommend the beef gulash soup - it was the highlight of the meal for me. Tasted very rich and authentic, and definitely brought back memories of when I lived in Budapest. Also, handy that the place had wifi!

The place is a bit small but the food is delicious. You should try the soups and the other traditional dishes. The dessert was a bit out of our taste. You should make a reservation on busy days. Staff was friendly and polite.

Lovely place to have an authentic meal in the very heart of Vienna. Very homey. Delicious goulash soup. You can choose half or normal portion of goulash soup, I personally recommend you to go big, because the taste is amazing. For our daughter we got broth with home made pasta which they call ‘clear soup’ . She ate till the last drop. As well as us btw.

Absolutely lovely and authentic Hungarian restaurant with super friendly waiters and incredibly delicious food. Every time we come we try out a different dish and every time we're extremely satisfied. It is a small place, so a reservation is definitely recommended over the weekend - during the week it should be fine to come spontaneously as well. If you're in the city, then definitely make sure to stop by.

I loved this little Hungarian restaurant. The staff were attentive, food delicious, and they have this cute retro servingware from Hungary… it’s hand painted! I especially enjoyed the Frittatensuppe, a specialty of Austria. Good prices too.

I had lunch at a small, cozy restaurant with a homely atmosphere. Despite being busy, the staff provided excellent service. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The prices were comparable to other restaurants offering similar dishes. I would definitely return if I visit Vienna again.

Great selection of Hungarian and Austrian food, family run very friendly and great service. It's a tiny authentic restaurant that takes you back in time, great choice of fish soup including Pike and Carp.

Such a lovely place. The resturant have a lovely homey-feel, the staff were the friendliest and most helpful and they were so thoughtful with their extra touches. I enjoyed the decor and the coziness most of all. I ordered the Gebackene Champignons with rice and tatre sause (vegeterian) and it was perfect!

Very traditional Hungarian cuisine. The place is really cozy. You get here an impression of being host in their own home. Recommended

Came here on a rainy night and the owner managed to squeeze us in. We didn't know what to expect but ended up having the most amazing time. The service was lovely and the whole place has a cozy feel. The food was incredible (the paprika chicken was to die for). We ended up having their famous crepe for dessert and it was awesome. Amazing value for the price. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Vienna.

It is one of the nicest restaurants to visit in all of Vienna. Family-owned, great food, very nice & cosy atmosphere, friendly staff etc. Absolutely recommend!

Amazing authentic food with efficient and friendly service! We had the beef goulash and stuffed cabbage with sausage. Both were excellent but the goulash was definitely the star. Hearty and delicious!

Don’t hesitate to come here, you will not regret it! I came here on my last night in Vienna and I am so sad I can’t come back and try every single thing on the menu! I got the small portions of the beef goulash soup and the hortobagyi pancakes and I was amazed. Both so good. Also I love that they have the small portions bc I wanted to try more than one thing! The server was great, he works hard!

Small but cozy place I love so much. I tried Stuffef Cabbage, Pork Goulash, and Risotto Bacska Style. Highly recommended as all savory and well cooked. Definitely it is competitive compared to other restaurants in Wien. Must-visit place.

This is already my second visit to this place, the last time I was here 7 years ago. The level remained the same - everything is very tasty, everything is very good.

Phenomenal chicken paprikash! The prices here are fair, you get a ton of food, and the restaurant itself is very cozy. Indoor & outdoor seating is available. It's right downtown, so it can get busy!

Great Hongarian hospitality and great Goulash and other dishes. Like many Hongarian families these restaurant owners ended up in Vienna after the failed revolution of 1956. Being now succeeded by family the place feels authentic. Recommend not the skip the desert and get the signature dish.

I am really satisfied with the service at this restaurant! The people working there are so kind, pleasant and positive! The food is delicious! At the end they give you some chocolate as a souvenir! This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Vienna!

Satisfying experience ⭐️ I had my first veal goulash here and it was a great interesting experience 😋 Wish I had the rice/risotto instead of the cabbage dish which I didn’t like.

The food was extremely tasty and the staff very, very nice and friendly. They were permanently checking if you have everything you need on the table and you could see it was important for them that the customers are feeling good. The place is small, so making a reservation is advised. At the end we received schnaps from the house! I was so full that I couldn't order a dessert, though I am curious how the "Ilona Palatschinke", the dessert of the house, tastes.

A short walk from St. Stephen's Cathedral, Ilona Stüberl offers authentic Hungarian cuisine in Vienna. Had an incredibly scrumptious meal here: beef goulash and the Wednesday special--a rice dish with sausages and cabbage. On the menu, each dish had a simple and straightforward description, but boy, were they bursting with flavor! Also appreciated the patient and attentive servers who accommodated our request to transfer to an outdoor table.

This is a nice Hungarian restaurant just off from the Graben. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I ate the vegetarian mushroom sauce with gnocchi and it was very delicious. I ate there around 1900 on a Saturday evening and it was pretty full. Not many empty tables. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. There is also a selection of Austrian wine and beer on offer. Super tasty and I'd definitely recommend it.
