We didn’t like the ‘wild rabbit’ dish and sent it back to the kitchen as it was misrepresented in the menu. An issue the staff said was a result of mistranslation. Upon receiving the bill I inquired if the dish was mandatory to pay for and the waiter immediately replied “if you don’t pay, I will call the police” and smiled. I wanted to avoid any confrontation in front of my wife so I immediately agreed to pay the bill but we both found his response to be incredibly insulting. Especially since it was his first reaction. There was no escalation in the conversation to warrant a response like that. I asked for the owners information to file a complaint and the waiter said he was the owner and had been for the past 30 years. Something he seemed proud about but I hope his demeanor was more accommodating in the past. I’ve never felt more insulted at a restaurant before. My wife agrees.

Had a chance to have dinner at this small but cozy restaurant. The bread, appetizers and lamb are sooo good. There are complimentary appetizer and dessert to finish the meal very well. The service is commendable as well.

We struggled for 4 days to make a reservation - we called each day, since there is no website / platform to make a reservation. We even went there hoping to find someone to talk to. The robot that was answering was saying to try again on Monday (which we did, and without any result). Disappointing, every Michelin starred restaurant should at least show some respect to their potential customers and try to include a bit of technology in their services.

A dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant had to be one of the highlights of our trip to Vienna. We chose the Walter Bauer restaurant and made our booking early in advance. What can go wrong, right? Everything! We came to the restaurant just to find out our booking was nowhere to be found. The owner / chief himself communicated the news to us in a cold and uncaring manner. Even if he serves diamonds on a plate, his attitude hardly shines. He should get a minus rather than a Michelin star. Shame on you, Mr. Bauer! Dear people, Vienna is a beautiful city of great culture and food, do not spoil your experience by making a wrong choice, like we did.

From the lack of a website and paper register it can safely be said that Restaurant Walter Bauer is something of a throwback, a single star from Michelin suggesting competent cooking that is no-frills and heartfelt. Named for its Chef whose Cuisine leans French by way of Vienna, all prepared properly and presented professionally, it is atop white linen that Bread is served almost immediately while Wine proves nearly essential thanks to frequent reminders by waiters. Eventually opting for Sparkling Chardonnay out of Niederösterreich, its bright Citrus not ideal for an amuse of Austrian Bologna but well-suited to Foie Gras and Oranges, course two consisted of Pumpkin Risotto decorated in Green Beans with dollops of Curd Cheese. Receiving Olive Oil with no explanation alongside the Rice, plus a pile of magazines to pass the time with no Wi-Fi, it was under vaulted ceilings surrounded by pink walls that beautifully-cooked Lamb arrived next with Polenta, Artichokes and a single curl of Bell Pepper. €69 for 3-courses, plus €4 for Bread and €16 for “Schmarrn,” Dessert riffs on Viennese shredded Pancakes but misses the mark in portion-size and structure with the lone saving grace some poached Pears and velvety Chocolate Ice Cream.

Decided to try this place from the fact it has a Michelin star and it was recommended on multiple blogs we read prior to visiting Vienna. The food was amazing and the service started off exceptionally prompt! Our glasses of water and wine were never left empty for long and the first portion of our meal came out one after the other. Everything was delicious. However the service did significantly slow down during the second half of the evening in comparison to the first part. Overall great experience!

Dined here in Aug 2022 and had the tasting menu (dinner). Was a great dining experience. The restaurant was kind enough to enable me to make a late reservation and kept open until I finished (was the last person to leave on the night) The place has a “hole in a wall” feel which is very nice. The tasting menu was very reasonably priced and very filling too. Was too full by the end of it to finish my dessert. The wine collection is great and I requested help with the wine pairings for the dishes. I’d definitely recommend a visit here if you are visiting Vienna.

A very interesting restaurant in the heart of Vienna. If you are looking for a good gourmet restaurant this is one of your options. Small restaurant with just a few tables. Huge collection of wine and champagne. Scotch as well. Dinner for two without wine will cost you 300 €+.

Celebrated a birthday. Elegant yet warm service, friendly staff. Cozy ambience. Pricey but worth it. Chose the full 6 course Fantasy menu. Overall, a lovely and memorable evening.

The predecessor (Walter Bauer) was one of our favourite restaurants, not only in Vienna. So we went tonight with some trepidation to find out whether the new incarnation under chef Duchardt would be as good. Whereas Bauer was an excellent restaurant, we both agreed that it has now been surpassed! The decor and service is unchanged and still perfect but the food was just superb. If you are in Vienna and want the perfect meal, then this is the place to go

My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at Duchardt on 15th September. Everything but everything was sheer perfection from the minute we walked in to the time we left and to cap it all, the man himself joined us after the sumptuous meal. Thank you to everyone who played a role in this special evening.

I recently visited this restaurant with high hopes of enjoying a delicious lamb dish. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered the lamb, but to my dismay, I was served a measly 25 grams of meat accompanied by an unnecessary side of seashells, which no one at our table had requested. The audacity of charging €42 for such a minuscule portion left me dumbfounded and, more importantly, hungry. I couldn't believe what I had paid for, as there was barely anything edible on the plate. In order to satisfy my hunger, I would have had to order at least seven servings of the same portion. This is not only an absurdity but a clear act of deception. It is disgraceful that a restaurant would stoop so low to deceive its customers. The lack of quantity and quality in the dish I received is unforgivable. I expected a satisfying meal, but instead, I was left feeling cheated and unsatisfied. The exorbitant price I paid was completely unjustified, considering the lack of food on my plate. I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this restaurant. It is nothing short of a scam. Don't waste your time, money, or appetite on this establishment. There are far better options available that offer fair portions and genuine value for your hard-earned money. Save yourself the disappointment and avoid this place at all costs. I hope this review serves as a warning to others who may consider dining here

We found this gem while in Vienna. It is a wonderful, French restaurant you must visit. The food is creative, thoughtful and delicious. The room is charming and service is excellent. Highly recommend. My only feedback is, add an element of classical or French background music, then all our senses will be touched. Karen

In an older area where you could miss it without GPS. Limited tables with a central one where they put all your wine and water bottles to reduce the clutter on your table. Service was amazing and the multi course Fantasy Dinner was as delicious as it was varied

What a delight. i wish I could give it 5.5 stars .. we felt very fortunate to enjoy a wonderful evening at this amazing restaurant. Wonderful cooking on every dish, absolutely terrific service, delightful atmosphere in a quiet and dignified (but not stuffy!) setting. Can't recommend enough!

Old school Austrian flair meets classic French cuisine with a contemporary twist. The experience is complemented by a professional, unobtrusive service and an excellent wine list. The restaurant has changed ownership recently and the long-time owner Mr. Bauer, who was a distinguished professional himself, has found a worthy continuation for his legacy!

Review from Fall, 2021. A small restaurant, beautifully decorated, hidden off on a side street, but not hard to find. I think they got a little carried away with the giant portion of fois gras appetizer. And the dessert, an apple/bread casserole was extremely good. I did feel a bit sorry for the servers, carrying a stack of four wine lists to the table - each one seemed to weigh about 4kg. But I still prefer the wine list as a book, instead of the iPad wine lists that are becoming ubiquitous. Hopefully, after Covid, we'll return back... but I doubt it. But I'll return here soon. 2021 09 22. M1.

I have exchanged few emails with the restaurant prior to my partner birthday celebration visit. Everything from the team, the food to the atmosphere exceeded our expectation. The wine recommended for our tasting menu were great. The chef came out to wish my partner happy birthday was a special touch. We were well looked after throughout the meal. Thank you so much for such a memorable evening.
