Be attention- cheaters! 🥵🥵🥵 The guess liver was very salty - not recommended. The waiter was terrible, a cheater! He didn’t explain about the dishes and about the prices. And when we talked with the manager the waiter laughed and shouted on us. We were really disappointed and felt disrespectful. The same case happened to the table next to us. The restaurant charges additional price for bread and butter(without asking off curse), also if you share your meal (additional 13euro) and also for side dish that is presented, by the waitress, as part of the meal. BEWARE.

2 stars for the great food, but what a terrible service. Reservation made more than a week before, specifically asked to be sites outside, got no response via mail, had to call, on the phone they said sure. Day of reservation, called them to confirm that we're sitting outside, told us yes. Upon arrival, oh no, "you have no reservation". But I called and confirmed 5 hours ago! "Ok, I found it,but we didn't PROMISE outside, so here is a table inside". No, I want to sit outside. "Ok, wait at the bar". Waited 35 min for a table, not even a drink was offered for the wait. Great meal, and then had to wait 15 min for the check. All and all, 45-50 min of waiting because of bad management. Mistakes happen, I would totally understand, but there wasn't even an apology, a small try to make us feel better, nope, it was our fault for wanting to sit outside. Go for the food, be patient for the service.

Food was amazing, but the service was horrible. The waiter was very impatient to explain the menu for us, and did not smile at all. He asked us to give him 10% tips but we refused, when we put 3 euros for tips, he was literally said ‘oh, you usually give 10% in Europe. I am not sure if it can be called racist but personally, I think as a restaurant with heritage, Plachutta should really improve their service and ask for tips from your customer.I don’t mind give the tips and I usually put 15%, he just not deserve it. - But the manager was very nice and professional guy😃

A Viennese institution Famous for its boiled beef Choose your cut of meat and they will serve it to you in a pot on the table Other selections also available Service was good (but not great - busy, and could have been a little friendlier) We made a reservation and then had to wait beyond that time also. You will enjoy your time - worth a visit

Best schnitzel ever. Good service, amazing quality food. Prices are high of course because it is one of the most famous viennese restaurants. Beware that there are extra charges for bread, splitting dishes etc. Just know this is not a cheap restaurant by any means.

I really like the Viennese cuisine experience, they very present very well, it’s easy for first time visitors like me. The place and service were both nice and I liked the Tafelspitz very much. Spread marrow onto a slice of toasted black bread and season with salt and pepper, really tasty!!!

Very successful restaurant 👌 A reservation in advance is required or, at least, is recommended. You will have 2 hours for your time, but it's enough. The austrian cuisine and the beef are worth to be tried especially there.

First thing I want to highlight is that the service here is impeccable. From the moment I entered, the service was warm and friendly. The bread served was warm and toasty, and goes perfect with the butter. I ordered the signature boiled beef soup, along with the side of vegetables. To me, the soup itself was decent, but didn’t taste particularly special. It tasted just like a salty broth, and felt like some herbs or flavouring would have added more to it. The beef and bone marrow was good, and I particularly enjoyed spreading the bone marrow with the bread. It went well with the sauce. The roasted potato side was really good and crispy, so so order it. Overall, I would suggest to come and try the soup. It is worth a visit.

Diner BEWARE! There are a lot of charges that you do not realize you will be charged. First off expect to pay a cover charge of €4.20 for “all this” as the waiter gestures to the napkin and tablecloth. We both got the house speciality which is boiled beef. Don’t get me wrong,it was delicious. The broth that comes with it is especially good but you are charged an extra €4 each for “soup garnish” (a fancy way of saying shredded potatoes.). And we didn’t recognize that we were ordering garnish when the waiter tells us that it comes with it. We also were led to believe that the other vegetables were included. Indeed they were not, there’s another €12 for spinach and something else.altogether we calculated the estimated cost of our meal with a bottle of wine and bread (which they throw on the table when you walk in and you must know to send it back) at about €100. Instead, when all the extras were added up our bill came to €131! Make sure to ask EXACTLY what is included. From the description I expected the vegetables “side dishes of root vegetables…” to be included in the price. It turned out that those “side dishes” were in the pot. And their wine wasn’t that good. When we asked to take home remaining broth and meat we were told they are not allowed to send broth home. They did pack up the meat and the sauce. But the broth was the best part. Our waiter was quite nice and I will chalk the experience up a bit to language difficulties but the menu could be clearer about what is not included. Although at the bottom it does give prices for sides. I will not go back.

The service was terrible we went to eat and it took them more 2 hours and 30 minutes just to bring our main dishes they brought us soup at first witch was very good the main dishes needed more flavor the schnitzel was really good tho I can’t say anything bad about it the salmon was terrible it had no flavor no seasoning you could barely taste the fish the only thing that I tasted was the tomato sauce on the salmon the staff were so unatentive they really didn’t care when we ordered drinks o got a mock tail it took them over 40 minutes to bring it and three reminders I asked for a glass and they forgot the staff either need a raise or an attitude switch very bad service and they didn’t do anything we basically became staff they didn’t Evan try to clean up the servers asked us to give them things but not like once or twice he stood there expecting us to do it !! TERRIBLE SERVICE !!

I’m glad to try the food here during our stays in Austria. The portion wasn’t big and suitable for visitors to taste the Austria traditional food. Another great thing was that it opened late so we could set it as our last destination after the long sightseeing day.

The beef soup was just amazing - love the flavor and how soft the meat is; also love how they thought you the traditional way to enjoy the dish! Waiters are also very friendly and helpful. Very educational while the meal is absolutely yummy.

Damn that Tafelspitz was soooooo good. I know, 29€ but hey, for a literary best dinner I have ever had I think it's a reasonable price.

Nice place with good food. Unfortunately, it feels like the staff are too stressed and don't have time to take care of their guests. We forgot a box and called and asked if the staff could take care of it until we could pick it up but we were told come here and look for yourself

Must make reservation! The signature beef soup was very flavorful, tendor beef, with clear delicious soup (a bit on the salty side). The Apple sauce with horseradish was a perfect match! Good service!

25/08/2021 … wonderful place, delicious as usual. :) It was so good that I haven’t had time to take pictures before the plates was empty !!! (We’ve been here more then once in the past) Every time the service was good as well. Thank you Guys! We’ll definitely come back … (We’ve ordered: tafelspitz, spinach, …)

Loved the food. A little pricey. there are cheaper options but overall I enjoyed my stay and the quality and taste of the food. Pay attention to the fact they serve bread and butter while waiting for the food without being asked (and charge for it obviously)

Made a reservation and still had to wait for an hour or so to get seated, unfortunately. Got a free drink as compensation, but they expected a tip.. The food was very good, but a little bit salty.

Managed to make a reservation at 6PM. The place was nice. We ordered the combination boiled beef and wiener schnitzel. The soup was salty, but the meat was tender. They served the wrong order at the beginning but they helped us to changed with a new pot. The schnitzel was big. The apple horseradish sauce and the bread were the highlight. Overall a nice experience.

Recommend to make reservation. We were lucky and got a table around 6pm. Don't risk it, particularly if you are short on time. This is a must in Vienna. Ambiance is a mix of local families and tourists, but this is not the typical touristy place. Service was fast, not too friendly but expedient. Place is crowded, and they gave us a table w/o reservation so will give them a pass on that. On to food. You will be tempted to go for Schnitzel and I will not judge. It is really good: tender, crispy, buttery. Go with potato salad or cucumber salad so you have something fresh in your palate to balance the Schnitzel. Now, locals share Tafelspitz and you should too. Do a bit of research and pick the meat that best suits you. Procedure : start with the soup, they will bring a big bowl to share and individual bowls for each person. They should serve you the first scoops. I had 'pancakes' (thin slices of thin bread) as a bed for the soup. Delicious! Then, go for the bone marrow. Yes, just do it please. I have eaten it since i was a kid. They do a good job here. Take the bone marrow out of the bowl and spread it on your bread. It is a perfect companion to the soup. The meat was a bit underwhelming, i tried the mint sauce and made it more interesting, with more texture. We had to skip dessert, as this was plenty! Excellent dinner for a cold winter night. It will get you satisfied, nurtured and ready for a nice walk in one of the Economist's most livable cities in the world. Go on enjoy

We are visiting Vienna from Australia as tourists. My old Austrian university buddy recommended this restaurant and the famous Tafelspitz is this restaurant’s premier dish. My friend made a reservation by phone on our behalf. We decided to ring an hour before reservation to ensure booking was still valid. Unfortunately even though my nephew spoke in German to phone operator, apparently our booking did not exist. So I sent a message to my Austrian buddy, told him the situation & he called in German to confirm. Apparently they did not understand my nephews German which is understandable as it’s his “third” language. Due to the initial bad interaction with losing our booking, we were worried that it might be a terrible experience (also due to other bad reviews)… BUT……. Wow!!!!!!!! 🤩👌 - service: fast, professional, friendly, impeccable - atmosphere: fantastic - food: exquisite highly recommend (from a picky eater) Best dessert: kaiserschmarrn. To die for yum 🤤 Can’t fault this place. So happy we didn’t just end up eating Japanese near our hotel!!

Food is amazing. Meat tastes really good. But it is crowded and the tables are so close to eachother. Waiters have to serve all the time, you feel they are annoyed and tired. They want to be fast and sometimes with all the work they can't be very well organized. That obviously caught our attention. Also the noise of all the customers... so I rated the atmosphere and service a bit lower. It is worth the food though. I will go again.

Easily the best meal we had in Vienna. We had the tafelspitz and the goulash - both phenomenal. The restaurant appears very formal, but we weren’t the only diners in casual clothing. Good idea to book in advance if possible!

Must visit here to get Tafelspitz. It was incredibly delicious! Service and the ambiance were also amazing. Perfect restaurant for traditional Viennese cuisine.

We had the signature Tafelspitz with hash browns and chopped spinach on the side. The beef was very tender and delicious, but the broth was way too salty to my own taste. While the ambience and the service of the restaurant are nice, the price only reflects on the whole experience rather than the food itself imho.

Had lunch at the famous Plachutta last week. My wife had the legendary Tafelspitz and I had Wiener Schnitzel. My WS was fantastic 👍 although the cold potato slices in vinegar I hardly touched. They never asked if I’d Like Bratkartoffeln with my Schnitzel . I personally think the Tafelspitz is totally overrated and over priced. €38 for two pieces of slow cooked beef in a broth. Spinach from the freezer! Please ? 😳 the Kaiserschmarrn was ok. but what really is a scandal. Was the charge of €4.80 per person for the Couvert. €9.60 for what ?? 🤔 3 pieces of mini bread rolls and the decking of the table !! Scandalous !! Pity. Great atmosphere though and super friendly staff. I suppose you have to go to say you’ve eaten there. In 2014 my wife and I ate in the No1 restaurant in the world at the time. El Celler de Can Rocca, in Girona. I think I know what I’m talking about when it comes to eating out in nice restaurants.

Tafelspitz..an imperial cuisine consisting of boiled beef. Sounds abit plain, But, the broth is cooked for over 12 hours, and the beef (+ its marrow), cooked even longer. The result is a beef broth that is flavorful, and a super tender delicious cut of beef. Totally satisfying dinner, and cultural experience! Service was top class and just made the perfect better. The desserts, warmed chocolate cake, and a raspberry sorbet was a perfect way to end the evening (apricot brandy optional 😀)

As an Austrian that takes his fair share of pride in Austrian food I must admit that the Tafelspitz with all available add-ons and the soup it is served in are a delight. The Schnitzel is according to Viennese standards. When it comes to the price it must be said that you pay for the white table cloths and the fancy decor. You could get food of the same quality cheaper but you pay for the whole experience. What I do not like is that you get bread and butter without any notice and then have to pay around 5€ per person for some of the smallest buns I've ever seen. They were good but not worth 5€. From other Austrian restaurants and overall restaurants in central, northern and western Europe I am used to getting bread served without comment only if it is free.

Nothing can go wrong with Austrian bread with butter! The signature boiled beef soup was really good. Do also order the side vegetables too. The potato salad was really filling. Definitely would visit again if I had the chance!

The best Tafelspitz I've ever eaten. The soup is wonderful with such a flavour of the marrow. I recommend with Frittaten. Then the superb meat expertly paired with the fried potatoes, spinach and two sauces which perfectly complement it. I've been coming here for more than 20 years and its been consistently high standard every time. My only complaint is that it used to be very affordable but the prices have increased significantly so that it's now for special occasions only.

It’s a pretty touristy place, but nonetheless you will not get disappointed by the quality of the food. It’s all Vienna cuisine and it’s the place that every tourist should go for a nice Wiener schnitzel. The food comes quick and most of the waiters are pretty helpful. It’s a bit expensive.

  • 4/5 Blake C. 6 months ago on Google
Great Viennese cuisine. Their outdoor patio was packed and their atmosphere was very classy. We were just looking for a casual spot for dinner, so this was a little too high-end for the moment, but the food and experience was amazing. I do recommend this restaurant for a fancy dinner out!

  • 5/5 Nadine B. 10 months ago on Google
Delicious traditional food with very friendly service. Probably need to make a reservation for dinner, it was quite busy. The beef soup felt like it fed my soul and the schnitzel was the best we had by far. The sides were also excellent

If you want to taste incredible tafelspitz and other dishes from Viennese cuisine this is exactly the place you need! Service was decent even though they placed two strangers at my table while there were a lot of empty tables.

It was wonderful and very delightful, especially the way of making a soup and a beef. You need to book the table. Price for 3 persons around £70

The best goose liver I've ever had, with the best toast. Best butter. Best potatoes. Great meat and broth. Waiters were super nice and professional. Food was well worth it's price, even though it was expensive. But you can easily find similarly priced food with way worse quality.

Boiled beef experience on its finest. Very good food and excellent service. Make reservations in advance as they are quite busy. The boiled beef dish is quite large, but delicious throughout.

The higher prices are worth it: the high quality of the meat, the perfect flavours, the details of the meal and the good service add up for a perfect experience. The restaurant was very crowded and packed. Reserve a table.

Best Tafelspitz ever! Not just the beef was heavenly soft, juicy, and delicious, the friendly waiter and the whole presentation also made this dining experience memorable. My favorite place in Vienna!

Good service, very good food. We didn't have a reservation and they were full, but they still found a table for two.
