Waiters were great at their job, polite and helpful - unfortunately the place felt understaffed, service was slow. Wines and the wine recommendations were excellent. The food was overall a weak point. When it came to the starters, the arctic char tasted and looked like a different fish entirely (basically white?), and the tartar was overwhelmed with tomatoes. For the mains, the lamb shank with lentils was quite muted in flavor. At this price range I would expect to be much more impressed. The restaurant applies a cover charge per person, which is just tacky at a place which otherwise gives off a feel of fine dining.

Me and my partner was walking past and fancied a glass of wine. So we popped in and was welcomed by gentleman who was very polite. ( unlike the other restaurants in Vienna ) The wine he suggested was responsible in price but lovely too. So we decided to stop for dinner too. This was even better and we was served by another polite gentleman ( the Irish man ) who also suggested our food for us, from the limited but excellent menu. Would I eat here again. Most definitely. Thanks again for a great meal. Martin & Jane

Paul is a new restaurant opened in March 2016 and already one of the best of Vienna. The restaurant has two levels, with a brasserie in the lower level offering drinks and tapas, and a full service restaurant in the upper level. The interior reminded me of an alpine hunting cabin with a modern chic appeal. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for a romantic dinner or gathering with friends. We started with an assortment of bread accompanied by three spreads. The first was a caviar butter, then a french bean paste and sauerkraut spread. I was pleasantly surprised by all of them. I was especially delighted that the sauerkraut spread was not strong, but actually reminded me of a sweetened white bean or chickpea spread. Our soup course was a truffled mushroom cream soup. The aroma is apparent when the bowls are placed on the table, and I was instantly drawn into the woodsy, earthy tones of the soup. The cream was rich but did not overpower the flavor of the mushrooms. The portion is quite large for a soup course and could be enough for a light lunch. There aren't many selections for vegetarians on the menu, but a note on the menu advised that vegetarian meals are available by request. Our waiter offered three dishes that all sounded amazing, and I chose the pasta with vegetables in a cream sauce. The vegetables were hearty roasted tomatoes, with slivered carrots and yellow pepper served with baby spinach and soba noodles with a cream sauce. It was bright and colorful, the vegetables were fresh and still a little snappy which I enjoy. The cream sauce was also delightful and refreshing. Finally the dessert was a chestnut and berry cream cake with beautiful flaky pastry and a smooth and buttery cream middle dusted with confectioner's sugar and cocoa. The service was excellent and interactive. We enjoyed our waiter and the food was presented by the owner. I will definitely add Paul to my very short list of favorite restaurants.

Very small menu .. the food was ok. We ordered their soup and it tasted awful. Our waiter had very strong body odor. 😩 overall not a pleasant experience. 👎🏼

Great food and great wine! The food was so good that I ordered a second main instead of a dessert! The braised beef cheek was incredible and the schnitzel was very good. The wine selection in the restaurant is vast and you're able to purchase bottles to take home.

Great Prix fixe menu. Choose between 3-course with soup, 3-course with appetizer or 4-course menu (appetizer, soup, main and dessert). Not sure how often the menu rotates but had the venison tartare with picked cranberry, white asparagus soup with golden trout & sorrel oil, entrecôte (steak) and apricot dumpling. Vegetarian options also available. Had a reservation on a Friday night but didn’t seem necessary. On par with some Michelin rated places. Friendly, efficient service. Highly recommended.

Wine selection by the glass could be better considering that this is a wine store too. I was not expecting them not to offer any bio or orange wine. It’s 2024, a little innovation in the offering would not hurt. Also so bored by the menu - very basic dishes, very tasty and well made, fresh ingredients but when you charge this price level you can try a bit harder than serving beetroot and salmon with popped quinoa flakes from DM. It’s giving minimum effort and maximum garnishing. Also only one waiter for 3 tables on the 2nd floor? Really? You expect your clients to scream to the floor below to hear? Do better!

Fantastic dinner, very creative local chef turning some traditional Viennese and Austrian dishes into modern carefully prepared and presented "haute cuisine". If you happen to be in Vienna and want to eat something a little different than Schnitzel and Strudel, this place is highly recommended!

Appreciated the wonderful bread we received. Beef tartar had a bit too much horse radish foam on top and was too saucy. Fish was delicious!

We arrived at the restaurant and saw all the beautiful bottles of wine and we were guided to our table. To our suprise they didn't took our jackets and we have to hang them away by ourselves. Also our table was next to the coat rack what resulted in less atmosphere during our dinner. We ordered beef tartare as a starter and mussels and cod as a main dish. After ordering we got the aperitif, which was really nice. Immediately we got our stake tartar which was a bit too fast for us. But is was really good. Also the wine was nice. The main dish was also good but the mussels missed a bit of flavour. The fries were really salt but we got a new basket from our waiter. The cod was good! All in all the was the atmosphere not that good, but the food was. But the value for money was too low in our opinion.

I think this is one of the most nice places I've ever visited. As you enter the restaurant you will find a small cava of selected wines and on the upper floor you will be seated. It's a small place but we were comfortable. The staff was super friendly and helpful on dish selection. We ordered for starters chestnut cream soup and for main the pumpkin Fregola Sarda and the Beiried à la beef roulade. Before having our ordered dishes the restaurant trited us with some amuse bouche which was delicious!! The soup was the most tasty dish I've ever tasted. Very unique flavors, textures and combination of ingredients. The beed was tasty enough and the most interesting combination was the potatoes cooked inside of an "salt" shell. With the pumpkin we weren't very thrilled about it, it was a dish that I could never imagine it could be existed. But very interesting in flavor, but not our style. Definetely worths the visit!

TLDR: Romantic, tasty, decadent & quality food. My wife and I were staying nearby, decided to go here for a romantic dinner, place does not disappoint, waiters were patient and lovely with us while we went through various wines looking for the right bottle. The food was exquisite, the special lamb loin was incredible! The schnitzel was of course on par also. Wine list is very full of options and different varieties, we had a lovely bottle of Château Beaumont, Bordeaux red wine and it was looooovely. Pungent, and very french! Defs a great restaurant although it's quite easy to spend up big without realising.

We visited Pauli for a birthday dinner while on a short trip to Vienna. Our sommelier, Jurgen, was incredibly knowledgeable and professional. His service was impeccable. Not only were our wines well paired, they were interesting and unique. The food was perfectly prepared and delicious. Wonderful evening.

I made a reservation about 2 weeks before arriving in Vienna. The restaurant is not big and I recommend booking a table in advance. We started with Truffle mushroom cream soup that was fantastic and Scallops on mashed carrots. For our main course we had Roasted fillet of venison with a port wine glaze and Fillet of beef with teriyaki sauce. It was a fantastic dinner.

Found Pauli whilst exploring Vienna on New Year's Eve, had a few drinks, enjoyed a fabulous meal and drank a celebratory NYE toast with the owner....Pauli's dad. Absolutely nothing to fault. Attention to detail about everything was exquisite.

Went there with my partner for their new year's event. The 4 course menu with the wine pairing was delicious, the waiters were nice and explained the different wine combinations. The full menu was pricey at 120€ per person but it was well worth it. Would come again!

Really really good service! Food a bit on the pricier side, and the restaurant was half full. The food was nice but small portions.

Absolutely recommended. Go for the 4-course menu, you won’t regret it. The trout soup is exceptional, the deer is soft as it can get. 👍

It's a great cosy with beautiful ambience restaurant. However, there's very limited menu for non meat eaters. The scallops we had was excellent.

Loved the place! We had a quick and delicious dinner - a beef tartar for the starter and risotto with truffles and pork ribs as the main dishes - all acompained with a nice red wine. Food is exquisete in terms of both presentation and taste. The service is prompt and the waiters are very welcoming and attentive.

Dinner on December 23rd. Our first night in Vienna. We had pre-booked a table. The atmosphere was really pleasant. The welcoming dish was delicious and it included home baked bread . We got the burrata salad . It was decent . However the schnitzel was a MAJOR disappointment. It had the smell of burnt oil. We didn’t mention anything because we thought it was the way everyone cooked it but the next evening we tried it somewhere else and it was delicious . That’s why I gave them the 2 stars . Also .. they were very stingy on the glass of wine comparing it to the restaurant we visited on the 24th . The staff was really kind and attentive however there is room for improvement
