The Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austrian is an old institution dedicated to the preservation of classical dressage and training of Lipizzaner horses that was built between 1729 and 1735. The actual school installations, stalls and Winter Riding Hall are a very nice tourist attraction. Above the royal box and opposite to the entrance there is a portrait of Emperor Charles VI to which the riders must salute before any presentation. Due to the history behind the school and the fact that it is one of the most prestigious classical riding academies in the world a visit, even if you are not a horse lover, is a must while in Vienna. The souvenir store is worth a visit to get a momentum of your visit.

The guided tour was very pleasant, and it covered all the interesting parts: we got to see the horses exercising during the 13:00 tour, we got to see the Winter building (which is used throughout the whole year) & to learn about its history and how it's built, we got to see the horses outside and inside the stables, and also where they store the equipment. The horses are absolutely gorgeous creatures! You get to learn about the Lipizzaner breed as well. I highly recommend going to the guided tour. You can also view their morning exercise routine (not a show, a practice) by purchasing the appropriate ticket (the people who complain the horses don't do tricks then, miss the point of the morning exercises).

While the Lipizzaner Stallions are gorgeous but I would only recommend going on the tour if you’re really into horses given the price point.

An amazing experience to see the cooperation between a man and its horse. The hall is an architectural beauty and the whole show pleasure to the senses. Don't buy a cheap ticket, spend more and you will be rewarded with a spectacular view. After the show you can go on a guided tour to see the stables and the famous Lapizzan studs relaxing.

The guided tour was very interesting; even so I am not a horse enthusiast at all. Not what I expected, in a positive way. A ‘must visit’ if you like tradition and need a beak from visiting buildings/museums in Vienna :)

Went to a combination show of the Vienna boys choir and the horses. All I have to say is VERY expensive for the experience. The horses and building was beautiful, but I found myself bored from the announcer giving long announcements for up to five minutes at a time. I paid over $50 per ticket and it was just a waste to pay that much and be bored.

My wife loved this, I did for 5-10 minutes. It was informative but dry. Watch the show, not the training. If you love horses you might love this. But go if you love horses. I will admit they are beautiful creatures.

Our guide made the tour for sure! We enjoyed the history and learning about the horses and training. We have been to Slovenia’s Lipica Stud Farm, and this was a nice bridge in learning.

(Translated by Google) It is the best place in Vienna. I am going to explain why, and as soon as you know it, you will mortgage the house even more for accessing this wonderful place. It is the coolest place you can see in Vienna, but not Latin roll, but SPANISH roll. To start, you can pay for a tour which takes you to see all the facilities. You see from horses to eagles. The real fighters will understand my reference. The show shows that it is Spanish. They receive you with Spanish flags, which have the drawing of a flying animal (please don't censor me Google), the anthem of Spain, but the one with the lyrics. People who go seem to have arm problems, because they always have it extended. Then the horses come out, and they do the things they became famous for, the things that prove they are truly Spanish. You pay 16 euros to see them take a nap. But if with all this you still don't feel like voting for VOX, finally, the horses and riders sing you a song that talks about the sun and faces, they will be Spanish legends, I say. Thanks to this, I know that Spain is one and not fifty-one, not blacks, Spain is not a zoo, and that Villarreal, a subnormal village. Thank you very much for this Vienna show.

We saw the Lipizzaner Special Wien and we were very disappointed. The show is absolutely boring and not impressive at all. It seemed like they were taking advantage of tourists. I recommend spending the money on a nice dinner or lunch!

Attended a performance on Sunday 10th Feb- was lucky enough to have been treated to front row seats in the Royal Box by my amazing husband! For someone with a lifelong love of horses and having dreamt of seeing this for years it was an amazing experience- The quadrille was particularly incredible. Later went on a tour of the stables which was interesting and informative and somewhat awe inspiring being so close to the amazing stallions. Highly recommended for anyone with a love of horses and dressage!

One of the greatest equestrian places in the world, a must see place for every horse lover. Vienna is one of the cities where you can "taste" the history of the European Society and the Lipizzaner are here an important part of that history. Positive : amazing shows, beautiful stables, beautiful horses, ... a truly magical world. Negative : nothing worth mentioning Suggestions : no

I'm giving two starts for the place, that is absolutely marvellous, the horses and riders who are very skillful and also I love the tradition. But I can't even describe what I felt during the show. It was bad. It was boring. The horses tricks were great, but they should hire a choreographer and bring some action and attraction to the show. We went to a Sunday show and we only saw three songs/performances. When we were leaving one of the visitors was very upset because they paid over 20€ for their seats and I completely understand his upset. We paid 20€ for ours and I'm glad it didn't cost us more. It's not what it's worth it. (I'm glad I got to see it though). I recommend to rather buy a guided tour and learn more about the place.

The overall atmosphere and the music is amazing, but the morning training is absolutely boring and not worth it… the horses seem very uncomfortable and shouldn’t be trained that way just for the sake of money

Beautiful Building, Incredible History but let's not kid ourselves about "Practice". It is just horses going in circles for 45 minutes that will bore even the most hyper of children and they will not allow you to take pictures as that might affect product sales. Not worth your time to go to "Practice", but if you have a chance to visit just to see the building, I highly recommend you do so.

A must go as we've been to Lippiza last year. A somewhat weird setting in the middle of the city. But fits it's purpose and does look spacious enough for the horses and riders to train and do their shows. Buy tickets to the tour in advance! We ended up with the English tour because there weren't any German speaking tour slots left.

We were so lucky, we managed to get tickets to the main show in the winter riding school, added bonus was the Austrian philharmonic Orchestra played the sound track live and their was a lady who sang opera, the horse show was amazing and the soundtrack was perfect for the show. I could watch again quite easily. Tickets were E60 for adults &E48 for children which I thought was reasonable.

Took the historical tour of the Spanish Riding School that lasted 1 hour. The place has an interesting history in connection to the Habsburg family. You can also visit the stables and check the horses very close. Totally recommend if you are a history and horses passionate.

I'm really sorry to give this review but if you want to see some beautiful horses walking for 2h this place is perfect. We attended the morning exercises and after 1h we left :) If you are in a hurry to visit as much as you can from Vienna you might want to skip this location. Also the waiting time is about 30 minutes

Perhaps the biggest rip-off ever. Bitterly disappointed at the greatest con I've ever fallen for, which was the hour long €24pp rehearsal at the Spanish Horse riding School. They never explained that it was the chance for 200 people to queue and then sit whilst a few horses strolled around the small oval Arena. At the end an announcement that as it's too exhausting neither the riders nor the horses for example practice their party piece of standing on their rear legs.

I booked a tour around the premise, next time in Vienna I will definitely go for a training or a full show. Jakob as a guide was very friendly, very knowledgeable and left no question unanswered. Very interesting tour and a nice experience to learn about the SRS and their stallions. I really don’t understand the negative reviews here. If you’re interested to learn something new and different, somehow unexpected in a big capital city - book a tour and enjoy!

See, hear and smell horses. That's it because you can't film or take pictures during the training. It's nice to see the horses doing a training, but after 15 min you have seen the different figures and possibilities in step, trot or gallop. After 30 min they chance horses (from young horses to more trained) but kind of the same again for 30 min. Acoustic is very bad so you can't really hear what the speaker tells about the historic background. Everyone who had a seat was sitting on the tip of the chair leaning on the balcony to see something, so not ideal. Worth a visit, but don't put your expectations too high.

Way too expensive compared to what you get. We payed almost 40€ per person to get standing seat in the back of a window so missed too much of the show. Also too much speaking in different languages between the shows, so long waiting. But the horses were magical and did a splendid job, also matching the music.

We went for the training session to music, as there was no performance while we were there, and really liked it. The hall is magnificent and you will quickly pick favourites amongst the 2 sets of 5 horses training. It is quite crowded and there are several doors for entry, with most of the tickets giving entry around the corner from the main entrance, so get there a few minutes early. First floor seats are better than second. If you time it right you can see the horses enter from the stables across the road as you go to the smaller entrance.

Very boring. Perhaps on some holidays or special occasions they show something more interesting and exciting, but regular performances are really boring. Yeah, horses are beautifull and show different fancy riding styles but still it is not an horse show, but really just an exercises in slow tempo.

More than 3 times I would be advised that I had taken another person's seat. When I asked ... whether others would cancel if they were unable to do so, a clear no came. . I would be pretty much the only one but again the comment .. I would have deliberately blocked a place. I have to say that we were late because of an emergency medical treatment and couldn't keep the appointment. It would be unlikely to get another appointment soon. This is also a lie. We were there shortly afterwards and had a huge selection of dates. It is unbelievable how little empathy employees can show. I'm so glad I ignored the negative reviews and came to see the morning exercise. The horses are magnificent. The announcements were helpful and not distracting, in English and German, about the training and history. I'm not sure I paid more or just was lucky, but we got the front lower seats and the views were fantastic. This was the morning exercise, so they just slow trotted around but the idea was just to look at these beautiful creatures. That was a fantastic experience. People who were expecting tricks should just go to a circus.

My wife and I thought this place was pretty amazing. We went to the morning practice and the guided stable tour. The practice lasts two hours and you can come and go. Don’t worry about rushing to get a seat because most people that get there early end up leaving within 30 minutes. You can just stand behind the seated folks and wait for them to leave. The stable tour was well worth it. I’m not a huge horse fan but I still liked learning a bit more in depth regarding the history of these beautiful horses. The only thing I didn’t like is that you couldn’t take pictures of the horses. I’m sure there are good reasons for this but maybe include some candid horse photography available for purchase in the gift shop.

Went there for the morning exercise, which was nothing more than 5 beautiful white horses doing circles. No exercises at all. It seems that they only did the warm up. For 30 euro I was expecting something fancier. Also the horses seemed to be quite stressed all the time.

Struggling to keep my eyes open. Guess I am not a horse person. The way the horses are galloping is interesting though. And interesting to know that only 1% of their breed is black and they consider at least having one a charm to keep the school going. Btw the place is very crowded

Overcrowded, employee told me they are allowed to let 1000 people inside. We spent 30min and wasn’t most pleasant experience. Show was lasting 2h. People are sitting on your head as they couldn’t see otherwise so it’s understandable but still far away from pleasant. Show is amazing and really nice for children, horses don’t look tortured even Im against animal cruelty didn’t feel bothered nor disturbed. What is really important for me.

Highway robbery. €30 for standing tickets where you are straining to viee something from your angle and past the pillars. I understand they are talented horses and well cared for and well trained, but the poor things just seemed so constrained. I would happily never visit such a show again if it meant the horses would be running in fields...

(Translated by Google) Was there for morning work and guidance. Booked through ViennaClassic, which was the biggest mistake ever. For 2 cards for a total of 96 euros including shipping, I was sitting / standing in a completely overcrowded hall with poor visibility. It is very clear to me that the morning work is different from a show, but the whole training session was really disappointing. A couple of gallop changes and a few traversals on the long rein from the ground were the highlights in two hours. The tour was much better, but the price (incidentally, it would have been 66 euros on site) is not justified in my opinion for what is offered. The riding hall itself is worth seeing, the condition of the horses is very good!

The show was amazing. Definitely worth while seeing. The horses are nothing short of magnificent! My only disappointment was that I paid €60 for a very good "seat" And I couldn't see anything. I had to stand up to see.Everyone up the top was complaining, not just me. Very disappointed! You're better off paying the low price ticket and get in the door early and you will have the best view!

(Translated by Google) Fascinating place that drags into a fairy-tale dimension. It is possible to attend the morning exercise with music all days from 10 to 12. As explained several times by the speaker, it is not a performance, but a real training of beautiful and young Lipizzaner stallions (bred in Lipiza, today Slovenia, in the past part of the Austrian Empire) almost all completely white (1% born of other colors!). Attending 2 hours of training, even if in a wonderful location and comfortably seated, and even if accompanied by classical music in the background, can be, after the first hour, boring even for the most passionate. It is not possible to take photos or videos, clearly the shop is well stocked with books, DVDs and all kinds of furnishings and souvenirs. The full entrance ticket is € 16 for adults, a family ticket for 2 adults and 1 child under 12 years is possible at the price of € 33, discounts for over 65. The ticket office is open from 9.00 to 16.00. It is also possible to attend real performances and take guided tours of the structure, both possibilities are subject to a calendar that varies depending on the time of year.

(Translated by Google) We took part in a guided tour (1st hour) on a Wednesday afternoon. We had previously reserved the tickets for this on the Internet. It is important to know that you still have to queue up to collect the cards. During the tour you were shown the large riding hall, the stables, the tack room and the horses themselves. Except in the stables, photos could be taken anywhere. Furthermore, it was understandably prohibited to touch the horses. The guide had an answer to all questions and was very friendly. The tour was also very interesting as a less knowledgeable horse. The tour costs € 19 per person. From the point of view that the riding school is only financed through guided tours, demonstrations & merchandise, this is fine. If you are in Vienna and have a little interest in horses, you should definitely stop by. (Translated by Google) In the first week of August we went to Vienna with the family. Vienna is a beautiful city with many sights. I would like to tell you a little more about the Spanish Riding School. A ticket to attend a performance starts at 8.50 and can cost up to 165 euros depending on the seat. Even if you have nothing to do with horses, a visit to the world-famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna is highly recommended. The school teaches riders and horses the so-called classical high riding art. This begins at a young age for both horse and rider, and full training takes years. The horses and their riders move to the sounds of baroque music in a beautifully decorated arena. The Spanish Driving School is definitely worth a visit when in Vienna.

Kind of a must visit for Vienna. Maybe it would be great if they have a (bigger) sign which entrance which one is and from the second floor u can't see the whole riding arena. Also the mic could be a little bit louder. But all in all it was nice.

The Spanish Riding School was the main why I picked Vienna for a weekend. -and I'm really glad I went, but... It feels more like a tourist gimmick then a genuine experience, together with "NO PHOTOGRAPHY" and a guy that walks around and tries to to sell you a program. -i wish they would have offered a photo session with the horses and riders after the show -one visit / performance are enough

  • 5/5 Jenna T. 2 years ago on Google
This is a worth while endeavor in Vienna. I highly recommend spending the extra money to get actual seats vs standing room. With the limited standing room and the large pillars, you often have an obstructed view. The skill of these horses and riders are unbelievable.

  • 1/5 Keshav R. 2 years ago on Google
Not worth. Its a waste of time and money. The horses just go in circles and that’s it. In the end of the show they do a ballet with horses which was just ok. The horses look amazing. It’s better to visit the stables than watch the show.

If you wanna know more about Vienna you should visit Spanish Riding School their very dedicated to the preservation of classical dressage and the training of Lipizzaner horses that became one of the tourist attraction you must visit in Central.

  • 4/5 Adrian D. 1 year ago on Google
The Spanish Riding School is a famous attraction in Vienna. The school itself boasts a history of more than 450 years. What to expect: young stallions (4 years old) being ridden gently for 45 minutes around the spectacular Winter Riding Hall, on the backdrop of Viennese waltzes. Visitors expecting some rodeo show will certainly be dissapointed. Why it was not a 5 star experience for me: the prices are simply too steep.

  • 5/5 Ewa M. 1 year ago on Google
It’s a classic for horsey people to see, Lipizans are amazingly trained, obedience and a talent of every horse is amazing. All the bad reviews are from laymans who expect the everyday practice to look like a weekly show, so if you’re not familiar with horse riding, don’t buy anything but the show or a tour around the stables.

  • 4/5 Sam L. 1 year ago on Google
Probably between an 3 and 4 stars for me. We attended the training demonstration. Purely from a unique cultural experience standpoint, probably worth it as a "once in a lifetime" experience but I would say in general, a bit overrated and a bit on the pricey side for the tickets. No pictures allowed during the actual show.

We took a guided tour around 3pm on a Monday in early September. Our group had 20-30 people. Our tour guide was very interesting and knowledgeable, and she was happy to answer any questions from the group. We started with a tour of the indoor facility then moved to the walking track and finally the stables. Seeing the horses in the stables was definitely a highlight even though you cannot pet them. The tour took 60 - 90 minutes and didn't involve much walking as all three locations were close together. Highly recommend!

  • 5/5 Jani O. 8 months ago on Google
Took a guided tour in late February 2023. This was a great way to learn facts about Lipizzaner stallions and the history of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. The tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. No photos allowed inside the stalls during the guided tour. After taking the guided tour, I wanted to experience more and decided to get a ticket for a morning training session and performance on Sunday. Definitely worth experiencing. No photos or recording allowed during training or the performance. As a tourist, a guided tour and maybe a training session is probably enough to satisfy curiosity about the Spanish Riding School. Attending a performance enriches the experience

Monumental building, fantastic show. Arrive in time if you booked standing tickets, but after our experience I recommend to buy a seating ticket instead, especially if you're with children. With standing tickets you won't see too much, plus the building columns cover out a lot from the view, unfortunately. Despite all of these things we enjoyed the show very much.
