Austrian Parliament / Österreichisches Parlament One of the beautiful buildings with very impressive old greek style architecture in Vienna. Roman influences inside the building. The guided tour is very interesting and reasonably priced. Visit also during the night. The building is most impressive at night. A short walk from the Kertner Strasse and Opera. Not sure if it should be a separate location from the parliament, but.. really excellent statue, probably my favourite in Vienna at all.

One of the best statues in the city. The poses are elegant and placed in perfect harmony to each other. Overall impression is a story full of emotions and power. Flowing water streams add to the motion captured in the statues. Placement in front of the Parliament building adds to the charm and makes for a perfect photospot.

It is one of Vienna's representative buildings, wich was recently renovated. The renovation of the building was a great success, which is definitely worth a visit if you are in Vienna.

The fountain was designed by Theophil Hansen in 1870 as part of the parliamentary ensemble, but construction work began in 1898, 15 years after the building was completed. 1873 was still an allegorical representation of Austria as the main character provided. However, this idea was rejected in favor of Pallas Athena, who was more neutral for the multi-ethnic monarchy.

The Athena Fountain in Vienna is a beautiful and impressive monument that is definitely worth a visit. Located in front of the Austrian Parliament building, this fountain depicts the Greek goddess Athena in all her glory, standing atop a pedestal surrounded by four smaller figures. The fountain was designed by the Austrian sculptor Carl Kundmann in the late 19th century, and it is considered to be one of the most significant examples of Neoclassical art in Vienna. The fountain's intricate details and stunning craftsmanship make it a true work of art. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Athena Fountain also has historical significance. It was commissioned as part of the reconstruction efforts after a devastating fire destroyed much of the Parliament building in 1884. Overall, the Athena Fountain is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Vienna. Its beauty, history, and significance make it one of the city's most beloved landmarks.

Perhaps to draw inspiration from the birthplace of democracy, the Austrian Parliament building is inspired by Greek architecture ad motifs. Greek columns adorn on top by bronze quadrigas. The Greek goddess Athena stands in front of the building. Many statues and reliefs around the building are sculpted in Greek styles including statues of Greek scholars and statesmen. For a moment I had mistaken myself in Greece, but that has been the influence of the Greeks on democracy.

at the front of the parliament the view of the visitor is dominated by a 5,5 m high statue of Pallas Athene which stands in the middle of a large fountain. The sculptor Carl Kundmann created the statue according to the plans from architect Hansen. He was not able to see the finished statue as Hansen was already dead when it was revealed in the year 1902. The goddess of wisdom Pallas Athene holds in her right hand a small figure of Nike the goddess of victory and in her left hand a spear. She is surrounded by personification of the legislation (right side) and the execution (left side) of the laws. Directly at the fountain bowl, which consists of granite, the both main rivers of Austria, Donau and Inn, are represented by a female and male figure. Also the inside of the building is full of history and art. Whether entrance hall, atrium, pillars hall, reception room or the Reichratssitzungs hall which is reserved for special occasions: The history and architecture impresses the visitor.

Currently the Historic Building is closed for renovation. But they offer some amazing free tours on hero's square ( 90 min Democracy power places), and in the temporary Parlament which is the former dancing halls of the Habsburg monarchs ( 50 mins and after 1300 you also get to see the winter riding School). Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) Athens Pallada Fountain in front of the Austrian Parliament Building (Parliament is an administrative building). The sculptural composition with the fountain was founded in 1893-1902. It depicts the gods of the year. The original project. Many interesting sculptures. At the foot of 4 (four) figures of the annual gods - depict the 4 (four) largest rivers of the Danube and Inn in front, the Elbe and Vltava behind. Female figures represent the legislature and the executive. Above all stands the gilded goddess of wisdom Athena the patroness of the city, in her left hand holds a spear, and in her right a statuette of Nika.
