I really wanted to visit the library, it's accessible through a hallway and a very old flight of stairs. The place is vast and absolutely stunning. The ceiling is really something to behold. One of my favourite places in Vienna, for sure.

Located in Vienna, We bought the tickets from the building next to it, it costs 10 euros per person, a bit expensive since you only get to see the library and go. Nothing else to do. The library has the magical Harry Potter vibe, great place to take pictures in!

Inspiring place with stunning Baroque ceiling and ornaments and old over 200, 000 old books on shelves. The Library was founded in the 14th century, and the section opened to the public is only a part of the of it. I felt the panel exhibition was not appropriate. Instead, showcasing of selected manuscripts or rare books would have been more informative.

They have special offer for students plus u can buy your ticket online. At first we saw the library from outside w/o buying a ticket and we just thought that was enough and we dont need to get inside. Then my husband decided to buy the tickets. Honestly, it was a totally different experience! Getting in there and seeing the little details of the library was mind blowing! If u can afford it, i really recommend buying the ticket to get in there🤩

Astonishing building, one of the must see places in Viena! I would love to spend time reading there. There is so much to see, so many details frescoes, so may very old books, ornate book shelves, statues and more. One thing I would like to point out is that in the middle of the chamber there is a touchscreen TV that gives details about the ceiling painting. You can find out more about reading the details mentioned for each component of the painting.

Österreichische Nationalbibliothek. State hall, locate at central Vienna. It is the largest library in Austria and I must say it is the most beautiful library halls i have visited. You will be indulge with Millions of historical books. You will be astonish with the architecture and definitely a must to visit when you arrived Vienna. You have an option to buy a day pass or an annual ticket. But i recommend if your a tourist like me on purchasing the universal weekly ticket for EUR 10,- in all five museums in seven days.

Library is very beautiful, with amazing architecture and sculptures. They have exhibition there as well - at the time of writing it was about Gardens and Parks in Vienna (June 2023). It costs EUR 10 to visit and the library isn't very big, so take a look at the photos and decide for yourself whether you think it is worth it. I really enjoyed it myself.

This place is gorgeous and the smell of old books is lovely. The only reason I'm rating it four stars is the expensive ticket price. It shouldn't be 10 Euros to view one room.

A must see place for every bookworm and people who enjoy beautiful architecture. I was mesmerized with the inside- definitely the most beautifully National Library I saw by far. I was in awe when reading that the library stores text from even the fourth century. Truly mindblowing.

For me this was the most enchanting library - although it is more of a museum than a library right now. Being a part of the whole Hofburg palace makes it even better place to visit, as there are also lots of other places to visit nearby

Outstanding library! And unlike some other historic libraries (eg Strahov Monastery), you’re allowed to wander around take photos without paying for a permit (just turn off your flash). Entry is €8. Really worth a visit.

Gorgeous detail everywhere in the room! It's fun to learn their culture and history admiring the painting at the same time. Entrance fee is 8€ for one room, watch out before you get shocked by the price. But I guess it is worth for how beautiful it is. No air-conditioning in the room so be prepared to get cooked inside.

This is architecturally and visually stunning library houses several thousand documents and books on two stories. The stacks are visible, but not accessable which is easy to understand given the age of the books go back to the 1500s. On the main floor, look for doors in the shelves, this is where scholars and researchers review the books. There also several statues and globes.

This is one of 25 (officially, to me it would be 10) greatest libraries in the world. One of the four libraries with manuscripts old as time. And when I got there they also had a map of the Danube river in its old times and all the cities and towns that were born on its shores.

I really wanted to like this one, but whoever it was who decided to put up hoarding/billboards/display panels everywhere for gardens that were a) completely irrelevant to the library and b) blocked visitor viewing of the library archives and stunning displays should be sent back to design school. It is an impossibly beautiful building and library ruined by thoughtless presentation. Could not believe people could be so stupid...

Worth visiting - to feel the imperial atmosphere of the library. Take your time to appreciate the beauty. Ticket price for adult 10€; for student 7,50€. There is hangers for coats after entering, but nobody looks after belongings. If you want - you can store your belongings in locker room for 2 €.

Stunning library. Amazing how they've maintained all these books from the 70s-80s. Beautiful architecture and fresco inside. Its 10e entry, you can easily spend an hr in here.

Visit: it is an extremely beautiful baroque library. The architecture makes you feel as if you are travelling back in time. The only thing I think the library should improve is to open up more rooms for the visitors to visit rather than just the State Hall. TAKE NOTE: Google doesn't update the opening hours, I've been there twice because it is written that the library is open up to 9pm only to find that it has actually closed. It is better to check their official web.

A true "hidden" gem. Don't miss this. Seen as one of the 25 most beautiful libraries in the world I could completely understand why. Even if you aren't a book lover the architecture and paintings are just breathtaking. I was surprised at how few people were inside in comparison to the crowds walking the streets. A lovely stop.

The inside is beautiful, but there is and old man working in the main room that was packing everything 15 minutes before the closing time, being so rude with all the visitors that we were there and whispering loud complains (tho) in his language. Aparently he wanted to go home, and wasn't nice at all. Is probably better to hire someone that loves his job, like the younger one at the entrance of this room.

Gorgeous library with over 12 million items in collection (largest in Austria) With the collection originating from Austrian Duke Albert III (Habsburg Empire) in the Middle Ages, the current library features the State Hall and four museums (Literature, Papyrus, Globe, and Esperanto). Tickets are 10 Euros/ person, a well-worthy price for this gem.

I visitef the state hall. For me was more or less indifferent. I have seen richer library and script museums. The interior design was fabulous, and ticket costs 8 Euro which is fare for this museum. If you want a 2 to 3 hours cultural visit, it is a good choice.

How beautiful. And so well preserved and cared for. I have to say entry is confusing, the family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) is cheaper than the ticket for 2 adults, but they will not sell you the family ticket if you don;t have children. Very strange. But once inside its ...just glorious.I would have loved a photo on the bookshelf "stairs" ( what do they call these ) but there's no way to get to them. But a highlight of our visit to Vienna

This place totally deserves a visit! It cost 8 euros per adult and 6 if you are student. It is just a room but super amazing. With around 200.000 books, some of them from S. XVI. I did not go during my first visit to Vienna but on the second one yes and no regrets!

Not easy to find but if discovered, it is a treasure trove of eye candy. Enlightening while also aesthetically pleasing, you can spend the whole day here and not get bored. Whoever said that having to go to a book store is like going to a reading jail obviously hasn't discovered God yet and this heaven of his. The upcoming exhibition on the topic of the invention of the future in literature is something to follow right now instead of the news.

(Translated by Google) Fantastic atmosphere, impressive and fascinating, especially the state hall is always worth a visit. But you should definitely take part in a guided tour to get to know the many smaller or larger details that are there to be discovered. Due to the corona, you cannot experience this "live" at the moment, but there are currently online tours in the coming days that are extremely well done. An excellent tour guide leads through the library with excellent expert knowledge. The lecture is really exciting and both first-time visitors and "old hands" can hear and see a lot of interesting information. It is also free, so a very good "consolation" that you can not visit "live" yet.

(Translated by Google) It is as luxurious as the popular name "the most beautiful library in the world". A collection of books, bookshelves, and globes with unified colors. The ceiling painting drawn at a height of 20m looks down on me and gives me the illusion of being lost in another world. It's like a book museum called the "library", with regular themed exhibitions from the Habsburg collection. For example, at a Beethoven-themed event celebrating the 250th anniversary of his birth, we listened to the song through the headphones installed while looking at his handwritten sheet music, and wrote letters with acquaintances and notes in life. Published It's like approaching his character. It is a "museum" where you can experience as if you were lost in history.

Visited the Austrian National Library for a conference dinner (yes for once I did not need to hide my food somewhere but had a proper sit-down meal plus a glass of wine, in a library in front of (actually together with) many librarians! The atmosphere in the State Hall where the banquet was held was simply marvelous. The ceiling was so high and when you looked up you would be forgiven to think that you were looking at the actual sky! When the library is open again, make sure you pay the modest entrance fee to visit the State Hall. I am not sure if photography is allowed during the normal admission but our memory is probably the best film, specially for things that we choose to remember.

A beautiful library in one of the outer buildings of the Hofburg. The State Hall contains two hundred thousand books, enclosed in a beautiful building that showcases beautiful baroque art in the domes and statues. There are chairs and one can sit and admire the splendour, although the old books are sensibly cordoned off from tourists. For those who enjoy beautiful libraries, this is one of the finest.

The Austrian National Library is not only the largest library in the country, but also offers you permanent presentations and diverse special exhibitions in the State Hall and the museums – the Literature, Papyrus, Globe and Esperanto Museum and the House of Austrian History. » State Hall Immerse yourself in Baroque splendour: the State Hall (located directly at Josefsplatz) forms the heart of the Austrian National Library. It is one of the most beautiful library halls in the world. Emperor Charles VI (1685/1711–1740) ordered the construction of this jewel of profane Baroque architecture for his Court Library. Current exhibition: » Of Gardens and People. Designed Nature, Art and Landscape Architecture » Literature Museum The Literature Museum is the first museum that conveys the diversity and polyphony of Austrian literature from the end of the 18th century until the present day. Current exhibition: » Ingeborg Bachmann. A homage » Globe Museum Over 250 globes and globe-related instruments such as armillary sphere, planetaria and telluria await you in the Globe Museum. The adjacent study collection possesses the oldest globe within the exhibition. » Papyrus Museum There are around 400 items for you to discover in the Papyrus Museum: from the oldest papyri in the collection from the 15th cantury B.C. to the most recent papers from the Islamic time in the 16th century A.D. Current exhibition: » A Gift of the Nile. The Power of Water in Ancient Egypt » Esperanto Museum The Esperanto Museum of the Austrian National Library provides you, through a modern museum concept covering 80 m2, the eventful history of Esperanto and also focuses generally on the relationship between humans and language. » House of Austrian History The republic’s first museum of contemporary history: Presented in a modern and insightful way, the new museum invites visitors to the Hofburg to examine and discuss Austria’s history

I visited because as a bookworm, I was excited to see something like this. Although it looks striking in photos, it does not give the vibe you would expect. It is one huge room with beautiful architecture, but you cannot approach the books or visit the upstairs corridors and it was full of people. It lacked soul. Plus, 10 euros is way too much for what you see.

I gave this library a 3-star rating because while the building itself was beautiful, I didn't find the books and manuscripts on display particularly interesting. Moreover, I felt that the library was relatively small, and considering the ticket price, I didn't find it as compelling as other cultural attractions available in Vienna. However, I must highlight the stunning fresco on the ceiling, which was truly captivating. Additionally, the interactive guide provided was incredibly informative and helpful in understanding and analyzing the library's history and significance. Despite my reservations about the exhibits, these two aspects added value to the overall experience.

It’s a must just for the whole design, the ceiling is a jawbreaker itself, amazing painting. The design as an old library is mostly what’s more astonishing of this place. They do not display very old books (the oldest we saw was from 1800s) but as we’ve seen books as manuscripts in other places like greece, we were expecting that here. In the entrance they mention they have them but don’t show them because they need to be in certain temperature. You need max 30mins to see the whole thing and you’ll be happy, 10 Euros for adults, free it 19 or younger and I think they have discount for students. Go!!!

(Translated by Google) Large libraries fascinate us, and so a visit to the State Library's State Hall is very exciting: As part of a guided tour at the Night of the Open Museums, you also get a much better understanding of many interesting details, e.g. why only books of a certain material quality can be stored here, through the motivation of the creation, up to the art on the ceiling and furnishings. Most of the time there are also special exhibitions within the State Hall, which are often also worth seeing. We also like to go here with guests. I was allowed to visit this as part of a podium disscusion from the Wiener Zeitung - thanks - was a cool thing. A beautiful piece of Austrian history that you simply have to see and every interested visitor to Vienna can simply recommend this sight. The State Hall is one of the most beautiful baroque libraries in the world. Built according to the plans of the famous Fischer von Erlach, this is another highlight of Viennese architecture at that time. (Translated by Google) A wonderful, majestic place, with wonderful frescoes and marble columns, many books of course. You can listen to Mozart songs with headphones while your eyes look at the wonders inside. There are multiple fixed points with headphones and different tracks. The ticket price in my opinion acceptable, we made the family ticket, 2 adults and a child 13 euros. A tip, inside the library room is cold, a temperature in my opinion desired for storage so keep the capoto or a nice shirt. At the entrance there is an unattended cloakroom or lockers with coin, 1 euro, we have left the hoods but we have been cold. There are bathrooms. You can take photos without flash. You can fully understand the growth track of the owner of the library, Maximilian I. After all, even him. When I was a child, my homework was shown. Even if you are a founder of Habsburg, you can't escape the fate of public execution, but in fact his class is very good. The State Hall is a fairytale-like library--a vast, awe-inspiring example of what it looks like when a culture wants you to see that they value their collective knowledge and history. The entire place is an accumulation of painstaking craftsmanship, from the books themselves, to the woodwork of the stacks, to the bright paintings on the ceilings. Once the initial impression wears off, you notice the cool little details: books with names like, "British and Foreign Harbors" and "The Russian People," or secret doors built into the shelves that open to reveal a hidden chamber with. . . more books! I was hesitant to come here with young kids, but once they got in there, they loved it, and they were just as amazed as we were. It is well worth the short wait in line and the price of admission, and there is actually a discount for families--they want you to bring kids to see this!

The state hall itself was beautiful and the front desk was kind and helpful but the security team was incredibly rude and condescending over their own misunderstanding of the museums policy on the go city pass. Beautiful space, one of my wife's must sees in Vienna. Displays were focused on garden designs from the 1500s to recent. Some amazing copperplate engravings and watercolors.

The most beautiful Library that I have ever seen. With a huge collection of rare books and documents, this Library is a national treasure. The architecture is also marvelous. We visited with Vienna Pass.

I wasn't planning on going here, but I am glad I did. This library is stunning. It won't take you long to see what's inside, but what you will see is worth your time. A lot of the information is about the development of urban gardening in Vienna.

Beautiful old library with books from 4th century. Huge state hall with 1000's of old books. The ceiling are all painted . They have old globes and it's really special

This is a beautiful place to visit in Vienna. I wish the museum displays weren't so big and bulky to be able to view the library better. Beautiful ceilings and two-story library.

It's just a single room but what a room! The Prunksaal is brought to us by the same architect who brought us the Karlskirche and the Schoenbrunn Palace - Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. This is one of the most powerful, amazing artistic and architectural spaces I have ever been in. It's hard to imagine a more glorious space... I wish I could have sat here and read something. But this isn't a room for reading light fiction - this is a room for reading books about the nature of the universe, of deep lore and history. It's just a single room so you don't need long to visit but you MUST visit if you are in Vienna.

It’s a stunning fairy tale level gorgeous library. So we’ll worth the 10 euros entry ticket. Took me less than an hour to go through the place clicking photos like a maniac in disbelief. The exhibit on the history of gardening as an art form was a pleasant add on.

Tickets have gone up to €10 when we went. There were books removed for renovations, and while it looks beautiful in photos everything is behind chains. The rest of the attraction is displays about gardens in Austria and Europe - different styles, popular ones, plants, books about gardening, etc. I think if you're going to see the beautiful books and the ambiance of the library, it's not so different from the photos.

A little tricky to find. They are all part of the Austrian national library, but you have to go to a specific entrance, to get into the state hall you need to go round to Statue Emperor Joseph II. Once inside you can buy tickets at the door. It was a little busy but the queue went quickly. They have a free coat and bag storage area. Then it's up the stairs ( there is a lift) to the hall. It was beautiful, very grand. There was a photograph exhibition that I didn't know about but really enjoyed. Very interesting visit!
