Such a great Zoo! Make sure you go early enough because it is a rather big location and if you want to enjoy the whole thing you are going to need about 2-3+ hours. So many animals to see! And you can use the map they provide you with to plan out your exploration. Great location for little children and for couples! Don't miss out when you visit Vienna, since it's one of the oldest Zoos of Europe!

There were not so many monkeys as I expected and the cages were pretty small

A very nice zoo with a great selection of animals. Many large exhibits offer a variety of vantage points. Logical layout so easy to see all of the zoo following the trails. Signs in German and English. Recommend buying tickets in advance or at the self service machines to avoid queues. Many places to buy snacks, meals, and drinks. Small play areas for children

The oldest zoo in Europe, but also one of the most beautiful. It has evolved and offers spaces designed for all animals and their biotopes. You can see pandas, walk among bats, cross an aquarium in a glass tube. Gorgeous !

I thought we'll spend no more than 2 hrs, first because it was a rainy winter and windy day thinking that the animals will be in their cages not being able to see them but... surprise! We spent about 5 hrs only in the zoo....and we could be there more time...it was great!!! 20€ worth it. I believe that in the summer can be a whole day of fun going around to see the gardens. The usual and general problem in Austria is the translation of signs and explanations for tourists, I used the Google translate. Disabled friendly, reachable toilets, tidy clean, feeding and shows with explanation - look for the timetables. Handicap friendly. Discounts. Take a map with you so you won't miss anything....great to all the family. If you don't want to spend much money, take snacks and drinking water or a bottle to fill. Enjoy!

There’s so much to see at this amazing zoo! We didn’t even get to see it all because of the lack of time 😩 They definitely had it ALL! Polar Bears, Penguins, Wolves, INSECTS Definitely a great experience! Only downfall was that it was snowing the day we went so it was freezing 😢 But we enjoyed it regardless and know it would be even more fun in the sun 🌞

Best ZOO in the Europe. Must see it. Just step away from Shonbrunn, so ideal is to combine visit of these places. Parking available for free above the ZOO.

One of the best zoo I've ever seen. I couldn't miss the oldest zoo in the world and I really enjoyed this place. The stuff care about animals. They have a lot of structured areas, what is very comfortable. But you can't see lions and leopards well because of plants around. Animals were hidden somewhere.

One of the oldest zoos in the world! This was such an amazing experience. The zoo was a lot bigger than we were expecting it to be and beyond crowded so we would recommend buying tickets in advance and getting there early. You will not be disappointed visiting this zoo from child age to adult there is something to admire for everyone.

One of the best zoos we have visited in European cities. The garden is enormous, with huge variety of animals and educational information about them. The place is perfect not just for kids, but also for their parents. There are plenty of options for resting, observing and enjoying the views. Plenty of shadows for a sunny day. Various restaurants and options to buy food. On weekends and during lunch time it might be difficult to get a table for lunch and you might need to wait a while. Will definitely visit the place when in Vienna.

Definitely the best zoo I have ever been in. It is beautifully laid out, and features a large selection of animals and other displays. While the variety of exotic creatures is interesting, my personal favourite is the collection of farm animals that you can get up and close to. The little hut restaurant on top of the hill is also just lovely. You can breeze through and see everything in about two hours, but if you take your time you can easily spend a day in there.

Not the best of experiences. It was very expensive for the ticket and food/drinks. We paid 24 per ticket, 6€ for a cup of coffee and 6€ for a sandwich, which all sound kind of expensive. The top animal attractions were sleeping but we didn't mind that.

This is one of the loveliest zoos I have ever been too. It’s a little pricey at €20. I visited at new year- it was very cold and covered in snow. But it was a lot less crowded too! The zoo is spread out over a vast area. It is beautifully planned. Multiple animals from all across the world. I was surprised to see sloths and koalas up close- as having been to Costa Rica and Australia - this zoo made it super easy to stare at them in close range. The zoo is a fun place- for all age groups. It would take a whole day to see everything if you end up watching all the animal meal time feeding sessions. Well worth a visit! just to seen penguins! I was so happy to see my first penguins :) thank you Vienna zoo!

I absolutely loved going to Schönbrunn Zoo it is the best zoo I have ever been to. Schönbrunn Zoo is the oldest zoo in the world and has been named Europe’s best zoo five times in a row. There are 700 different species from all over the world, some of which are critically endangered. My favourite animal we saw in the zoo were the Giant Pandas and the Polar Bear. It was simply incredible to see these animals up close and could be the only chance I will have to ever experience this so I am glad I did. All of the animals had huge enclosures and seemed very well looked after. None of the animals seemed to be stressed or unhappy. The weather was a bit overcast when we went to the zoo but it was nice because it wasn't too hot and also wasn't very busy so we could walk around the zoo with ease and had really good views of all of the animals. You can observe many of the animals at feeding time and find out facts about the animals from the keepers. They have numerous restaurants and kiosks where you can buy food and drinks and there is a shop where you can buy souvenirs to take home. I would definitely go back to the zoo if I was ever in Vienna again. We also had a walk around the gardens which was lovely and the views were stunning. I would 100% recommend.

This is an old and important Zoo. It includes very rare animals. They feed them (at different time, lion, tiger and Panda at 3PM), there could be another morning time not sure. You can go and touch the goats which kids love so much. It takes half a day to really enjoy it. Also, elephant training time is 11AM. Lots of cafe and restaurants. Maps can be improved big time.

Being the world's oldest zoo this one was really well maintained and cleaned. Best thing is the cafe beside lion's den. You can have a thrilling experience watching lions roaming beside you while enjoying food. This has a variety of different animals and based on their habits the environment is maintained. A must visit place in Vienna.

I loved Schonbrunn Gardens but discovering this zoo was really cool! I haven't seen a zoo so well done and so large for years.Suitable for all ages and makes you wonder whatever was created. The animal information is also accurate and gives you more curiosity about the animal in front.

Truly one of the best zoos out there! The zoo program is filled with feeding and training sessions, during which you can listen to interesting talks about the animals. The talks are in German but you can ask questions in English afterwards. The lecturer had a good grasp of English so it was easy to communicate with her and learn something new! The talks are nicely spaced out, so it was easy to arrive at each in time. The habitats were lovely and so were the animals. The animals were the perfect mix of classic zoo all-stars (lions, tigers, flamingos) and more unique ones (Gambian rat, lynx). The zoo itself is a blend of the historical architecture and a nearby forest. The terrain shape is also interesting, so the wolves and the mountain animals inhibit an actual hill. The hill also provides a great view of Vienna! The most unique section is the traditional domestic animals of Austria, mostly highlands. These breeds of sheep, cows, goats, horses, and chickens went almost extinct after the globalization and the pursuit of optimalising animal husbandry, so it was great seeing conservation efforts at the zoo and a bit of Austrian history. Overall a great zoo for a fair price.

Very nice playground. There is a hill that has tunnels running through it, so kids can play in them like moles. There sometimes are goats to pet, parents can grab a snack at the adjacent takeaway. Don’t forget to bring 1 Euro coins to use in the power diggers!

The Zoo was established in 1751 and is considered the world's oldest zoo still.in operation. It sounds fascinating and you have to take this into account when you set your expectations. The place is relatively small but it has giant pandas, red pandas, and koalas, among many other animals, which is a good reason to visit the place. I also enjoyed the canopy trail, which allows you to walk between the tree tops 10 meters above the ground.

Given the fact that we visited in the winter, it was a pleasant experience! Not the best zoo I visited in europe but definitely worth visiting. Many animals to see. The parking system I thought was weak, we had to park about 350ms away, infact, I can imagine a worse scenario if it was the summer where many people visit..

Nothing beats the annual price of 49 euro! Such a great price if you plan to go more often and you can really visit this zoo a lot of times. Love the penguin area with an inside and outside area, the aquarium house(see pictures) and the zebras. Great area for elephants too. What makes this zoo special is that there is a section with “typical” mountain animals of Austria which is nice if you are like more a city than a mountain girl yet want to see some local animals

Great experience. The zoo has many animals, lot of them seen only on TV or in photos. You need around 4 hours to be able to go through the entire zoo. Inside there are restaurants and bars where you can get a drink or something to eat. The ticket is 22€, and with Vienna City Card we paid 18,5€ per ticket. A covid test or vaccine certificate is required before entering. We really enjoyed our time spent there, I would visit it again :)

Fantastic zoo, with great facilities for the animals and visitors, too. Although there were a lot of people, it didn’t feel that much crowded. The walkways are wide enough to enjoy your stroll around this huge garden. There is also a trail leading through a forest area which can keep you cool in the summer heat. The animal feedings are very enjoyable.

Nice location just outside the zoo nicely located. Food is average and waiters got not much time but are friends in that tight scope. My supe was cold and the rice with chicken Schnitzel more than Al tente (hard) the Kaiserschmarrn at least no pellets but the plum roaster quite dull. It is still one of the best option to eat since other places have even longer waiting lines and you get a chance to cool and chill which can be a god send in summer.

It might be a smaller zoo than what I'm used to but it is still a beautiful one. You can't get lost or lose your track where to go. Animals are put into places with viewing areas that you can see them really nicely, so for me that's a really plus! But I wish the one viewing area for pandas would be managed better, but still it's okay. The zoo is really nice and mainly there is a panda, so I loved it and I'm pretty sure anyone will love it as well! :)

Really good zoo. Its old side and new charm is great. Some cages looked a bit too small or had a lack of hiding spots. To my taste the zoo has far too much glass. But for a city zoo its definitely one of the best around.

Definitely worth visiting. Keep in mind to plan a few hours for that Zoo - I spent around 4 hours. This Zoo is designed so good that you won’t get lost in it and won’t miss anything unless you are a type of person that can be lost in a bushes. For me personally the best experience was to see a polar bear, I’ve never seen them. All in all great Zoo, after exploring it you’ll understand why it’s a 30 euro fee.

Very clean, a beautiful variety of animals, and very informative. It's on beautiful grounds surrounded by nature, yet near the palace and city. 10 minute walk from the metro, bus, or tram stop. The pandas weren't visible, but seeing the polar bear, koalas, penguins, and giraffes made me fall in love. Zoos like this are so valuable for developing love for animals in the hearts of children and adults. Rest areas, eating places, and maps all over the place. Easily spend half a day there from opening to closing.

We LOVED the zoo. You can easily spend the entire day there; it's huge with a lot to see, and there are many small, interesting facts about the animals to read. It's well-organized too. I recommend visiting during feeding times (listed on the map) – it's a lot of fun. However, I wouldn't recommend the dessert room - it was small, and there wasn't much of interest there.

This is a very special zoo. It's beautiful and incredibly clean. They have less species than most the size of the zoo because the animals have the space and carefully crafted enclosures that they deserve. Bravo to this institution for opting to keep less animals in order to properly care for the ones they have. My daughter and I had a great day here and would love to return.

tbh, I expected more. I was there for a christmas party and we had the whole upper floor for ourselves but the food was just sub par and the time between the 4 courses was also very long, especially with the main dish. The fish dish came out first, then the beef and last was the duck which was served when everybody else was done with eating. The dumplings were like rubber and I didn't really finish my food.

I expected more from the biggest and oldest zoo in Europe. In reality, other zoo places are more interactive and have more animals to show (Budapest, London, etc)

The zoo is immense, so expect to spend 3-4 hours in it in order to complete the visit. The animals are well taken care of, and there is a multitude of information displayed in a child-friendly environment. It's a great way to spend a day in Vienna, especially if you love animals and nature. There is even a pet zone where kids can feed pigmy goats; they are very docile and gentle.

Zoos are simply outdated institutions. We used to lock people up for fun and look at animals today. Thank God that too will come to an end soon. The animals look frustrated by the row. The enclosures are not “species-appropriate”. Really sad that such a system of animal cruelty is still allowed. Locking up great apes in particular, which have a 97% genetic match with us sapiens, is simply a shame.

Loved this zoo! Went there at 9:30 in the morning so no queuing and got to see most of the feedings. Wanted to see specific animals so was done in 3 hours. But you can actually spend an entire day with your kids there since the zoo is big enough. And there are a lot of other things to enjoy in the grounds of the palace.

Schönbrunn Zoo deserves an enthusiastic five stars! The expansive variety of animals, well-maintained enclosures, and commitment to conservation make it a standout zoo experience. I didn’t like the zoo for some reasons 1. the animals where so depressed and it seemed they were suffering from psychological problems! 2. it was difficult to arrange a way to see the whole zoo in a short time. But if you want to visit the Schönbrunn castle, park and the zoo, you probably need at least whole of a day or even 2 days.

What's cool about this place is that it's a zoo that is surrounded by a park and other sights, so you really can't go wrong here. For regular visitors there's a yearlong-pass for a very low price, 52 euros at the time of writing. The enclosures are less than impressive when it comes to size and quality in my opinion. All in all: zoo.

The Zoo was very nice but I would recommend going in summer time. Our favorite part were the little monkeys in the monkey house and the jellyfish they have in the aquarium. It’s s really big so be prepared to walk a lot or you can take a “train” around some parts.

You can see the bears from below and on top and other animals too because of the little mountain situated next to the palace. Lots of animals you can see from near distance. The tiger walks up right in front of viewers. The have a bee nest you can see through the glass. Such a great zoo! You see some very unique animals that you don’t often see in zoos, like tapirs, giant anteaters, and polar bears. They’re doing a good job to maintain the health and wellbeing of the animals for sure! You can easily spend a whole day here - it’s also got many picnic and rest areas! It’s also a great place for the family - there’s even a play area here. I would recommend it!

The oldest and certainly one of the most beautiful zoos in the world. During covid-19 times you're required to book a time slot online. Very well maintained facilities and spacious cages for the animals compared to other zoos. Very good descriptions of the animals. Very children friendly. I've spent 4 hours total there with two 4 year olds and they never got cold or bored. Nice playground onsite too. During covid-19 times the usual restaurants are closed but food stalls provide warm snacks and beverages. Entry fee is well worth the money.

Dont go for an annual ticket as you risk not to get the required "time slot entrance allowance". Owner of a daily ticket can enter without restrictions. Be aware, in this zoo it is required to carry ffp2 masks also outside the buildings.Other zoos in Austria dont expect this from their visitors.

Nice little zoo to visit near the Schonbrunn palace in Vienna, making in a "2 for 1" visit for few hours walking around the zoo and the palace grounds. The zoo itself isn't big or modern keeping it old style as it was created back in 1745. The U4 metro has a stop near it so it's easy to get from the city center for a visit

  • 5/5 Ekaterina A. 2 years ago on Google
A lot of animals, very well organized. Also a lot of restaurant not just cafe. So there is no problem to find good food there. Plenty of clean toilet. Very nice place to spend whole day. 22 euro definitely worth it!

Best zoo i've ever visited. It's large and there are species which you can't see elsewhere in nearby countries. The animals have large territory compared to other zoos. Also there are 9 drinking fountains which is useful if you visit the zoo in summer. The rest rooms are clean.

A must see for Vienna. It was very crowded in Aug in a weekday. I bought combined tickets with Danube Tower. Polar bears, sea lions, koala and panda were the vips of the zoo. Better visit by morning when animals are active, after lunch they rest far away from alleys in shadow places

  • 5/5 Raluca S. 2 years ago on Google
The most beautiful zoo I have ever seen, especially for the way they integrated it in the natural area (forest for cheetah, wolves and owls, true farm for domestic animals) and extremely well kept animals and their spaces. I loved the fact that is not huge, but has extraordinary and beautiful animals: the 3 bears (koala, panda and polar), hipo, rhino etc.

  • 5/5 Andrei Traian O. 2 years ago on Google
It's very hard to describe this place, because it has so much to offer! First of all, it's a huge place, thus I would recommend reserving at least 3-4 hours to have time and enjoy each attraction / zone. Also, I would recommend to get or ask for a map at the entrance for easier navigation. The best part, for me at least, were the penguins, there were 2 zones with penguing and they were such an entertainment. I highly recommend the place, it's best to get a combined ticket for all attractions on Schönbrunn to save some money.

Ive wanted to visit vienna zoo for a few years now, im a zoo keeper in the uk so love visiting other zoos. Vienna zoo is absolutely stunning, set in beautiful grounds with some incredible buildings. The zoo is old and naturally with old zoos sometimes enclosure fall behind modern standards but vienna zoo has done a brilliant job at keeping their enclosures upto date. Loved the zip line in the cheetah enclosure where they can attach food and enclosure the animals to chase the 'prey'. A few of the big cat enclosure felt really small and i would love to see them have a bit more space. Penguins were my favourite and so nice to see so many rock hopper (a critically endangered species). A really nice mix of animals and lots of endangered species that they are helping to protect and conserve. We needed to show our vaccine passport at the entrance, mine is from scotland so doesn't scan on there system but i was able to show the details and they were really good about it and i didn't have any problems getting in. Masks were require inside and was really nice seeing everyone following this(coming from the uk where your lucky if half of people are wearing masks). Really good food options and we spent 3-4 hours here but could have spent longer. Overall i would definitely recommend a visit to vienna zoo if you are visiting vienna.

Great place, amazingly organized. Only thing it's not 5 star at one of the entrances very rude employee, Serbian native, when he saw our passports didn't let us in, claiming that my certificate for covid recovery is not valid. Went to other entrance, Austrian worker checked everything, we entered with no problem

Very lovely zoo and clean space. Animals seemed happy and were out and about so easy for visitors to see them. Wish I had more time to explore. (We spent about 2 hours since there were 6 sights in the Schonbrunn classic pass, but at least 3.5 hours is needed to see all the animals)

One of the most impressive ZOO's in Europe. Very entertaining for the kids and adults as well. Recognized as the best Zoo in Europe 5 times between 2008 and 2018. It is the oldest existing zoo still in operation, that was established in 1752. 8,000 animals 700 different species The wide areas create a comfortable space for the animals and seems as they are very well attended. They have a focus on conservation and animal welfare as well which is highly respectable. Take around 4-5 hours to visit it all and paying attention to everything.

We spent the whole day for visiting the Schonbrunn zoo as it has a large territory and you want to see everything!!!

It-was-Awesome! It's definitely one of the best zoos I've visited! Everything is very accessible and there are some little shows with the animals when they feed them. Great zoo. It was a bit tricky to find the entrance but after a fast ticket buy we were in. They suggest proposed route to view all attractions. A very big train station, you had better get there sooner rather than later, cause it can get longer to reach your train platform. There's also the metro, and lots of shops. You don't just get a platform number, but also a letter. Our train was on Platform C, nr. 4. So, don't waste time. 😉😯 The building itself is quite and ugli model of fascist brutalist architecture.

  • 4/5 Shalen R. 1 year ago on Google
The zoo's size is so well hidden. Its large with many many animals. The animals are well kept. There are many special rooms and exhibits that can be entered and it's a great day out with the kids! Being South African I've seen many of the big animals in real nature parks, however the pandas and other animals from the other continents was amazing to see.

A very good break point if you visit Schonbrun castle. The coffee shop from Gloriette is ugly and jammed with people. At only 2 minutes walk towards the Zoo you can find a tipucal Austrian chalet with foid, drinks and coffee. It is nice and the food is good.

I was sooo in my happy place here. The animals have huge areas to wonder and the different viewing points for the guests is super unique. The palace grounds right next to the zoo there is a green house and desert house with a wide range of plants and animals, insects and critters too!! We saw the wolf feeding which was fun and also the elephant training in the morning. Well worth the visit to the worlds oldest zoo! Great view of the city from the tree house inside the zoo!

Truly amazing Zoo which are exciting not only for kids but for adults as well. • 3/5 Christian P. 8 months ago on Google
I'm absolutely against the concept of animals in captivity for show and profit. Nonetheless, it is a big and interesting zoo. I just wish we could get rid of zoos altogether. The same, if not better results could be achieved by reproducing the flora and habitats and filling them with plenty of stuffed animals. But probably we will sadly end up doing so anyway as more and more species go extinct.

  • 5/5 Piuli Basu Roy C. 9 months ago on Google
Superb Zoo. It had many rare animals like Giant Panda, Penguin, Polar bear which I really didn't expect. We also visited Giraffe, Zebras, elephants, rhinos and many other animals on our way. It takes a lot of time to visit the zoo properly as it is pretty elaborate.

  • 5/5 Sebastien G. 9 months ago on Google

The zoo is really fantastic. A wide range of animals surrounded by the amazing palace gardens. Plenty of options for food, but do plan your route based on what you want to eat and when. I would also recommend looking at when the feedings are as you get to see some of the animals in a different setting. I was lucky enough to see the artic wolves.

  • 4/5 Adrian S. 8 months ago on Google
The oldest zoo in the world and many of its historic buildings are beautifully preserved. This gives the Tiergarten a unique atmosphere found nowhere else. The zoo, however, is on the small side and thus many enclosures just seem inadequate for the animals that are in them, especially the ones for sea lions, elephants, giraffes and polar bears (despite the latter two being relatively modern). Worth a visit for sure but definitely not the best zoo in Europe.

  • 4/5 Małgorzata B. 8 months ago on Google
Maybe because they were doing something and had closed roads, but we didn't see all the animals that were on the map. Overall, the animals looked very well-kept and happy. The penguins charmed us as they showed off in front of the glass and swam around, they even looked like they were posing for photos.

  • 5/5 Eva M. 8 months ago on Google
The place is excellent for the adults or kids. Simply one of the best ZOO around, it’s big and it’s better to book a day, it’s not that crowded on weekday during the summer. Everywhere inside is a tap with fresh drinking water what is a huge plus, if you get small kids and you are without a baby car, you can book for small free and wagon to pull them behind you.

  • 5/5 Anna O. 7 months ago on Google
Very nicely kept grounds. Modern but steeped in history. You are reminded of the original way it was in a few places around the place. There are many areas to get away from sun or rain and lots of well kept animals to see. Overall a good experience to have with kids

  • 5/5 Guyver F. 7 months ago on Google
Excellent value at €26. Really big zoo, can easily spend 3-4 hours. It has pretty much everything, it is located in the main park with stunning scenery. Lions and tigers didn't really do much, and unfortunately the monkeys weren't playing. But the elephants and giraffes made it worth while.

  • 4/5 Luca T. 7 months ago on Google
The zoo was beautiful , the location of it and the scenery, but the only downfall was that when I went it was 34 degrees meaning all the animals were not able to walk around as it was very hot for them , we were able to see some of the animals we wanted but not all of them as they were sleeping. I loved the layout of the whole zoo and how you had to walk around the park to see the variety of animals. They had every animal and you can think too from a cricket all the way to a polar bear, the only thing that was a negative that the price of the zoo was credibly expensive for two tickets it was 52euros meaning 26 pounds a person, I would say it not worth it in the summer as all the animals are sleeping and it's too hot for them but I think it will be worth it going when the temperature drops as you can see more of the animals. They had this cool room that was really humid but you can see bats and birds that you probably have never seen before, and you get to see them fly around and sit around on the branches, which was really cool to experience. My favorite was the aquarium and the butterfly room , you can get to experience species of fish that you probably never seen before, and the butterfly room was beautiful as you have these massive butterflies flying around and they are so confident around people that they fly onto your fingers and you can take pictures of them while sitting on your fingers. They also had this petting zoo for goats and sheeps, you can enter this farm and you can spend 1 euro on food for them and you fan walk around with them and feed them, this was an experience ive never had before. Overall I'd rate this zoo a 7 out of 10 , not the best zoo I've gone too and it was pretty expensive for two people, but I loved the location of it and the walk around the whole park to see the whole zoo

  • 3/5 adriana s. 7 months ago on Google
Only 3 stars because I didn't expect the polar bear and penguins to be outside at 33 degrees Celsius, dying of heat. I felt so sorry for the poor animal. I would have liked the explanations given at mealtime, which are shown on the sightseeing map, to be in English, considering that there are many foreign tourists. Maybe they want only the locals to visit them?! ;)

We paid €26 pp. This is one of the best zoo I’ve been at. I like that they have summer and winter option to observe the animals. The ‘cages’ seemed very cleaned, animals didn’t look depressed. My big surprise was the "forest" trail and the beautiful hut/building at the end of it where you could pet some bunnies or just enjoy some very tasty sandwiches and cheese. Definitely try the honey gummy bears, they were quite a nice surprise since I don't even like honey but I was just so drawn to them. The sloths were just perfect, fruit bats - the best, I could go on and on but at the end - definitely visit it if you like zoos. 😅

Good selection of animals, the first time I have ever seen a polar bear. Great layout for a zoo. How ever the enclosures are very dirty and the seal tanks are so dirty you can not see them! It needs a very good clean!

Loved this place. Was well worth the money, we spent over 5 hours looking at all the animals loved seeing the polar bears, Arctic Wolves in the snow and Pandas, Koalas and siberian tigers. The enclosures seemed decent sizes and the animals looked well looked after. It was nice having a path follow round so we didn't miss anything on route, although not all animals were out due to the weather. Would definitely recommend and would visit again if and when in vienna.

The animal enclosures are tiny, the animals looked miserable. I was depressed being there. The zoo needs to treat its animals better. If this is the best zoo in Europe I’d hate to imagine what the others look like. Poor poor animals 😭 it was also January 2024 and most animals were freezing cold and hiding. Wasn’t much to see. I just want to save them all from their tiny homes. The Hippos and Rhinos were in minuscule enclosures and the polar bears looked suicidal. Also saw a Humboldt (Peruvian) Penguin that had bleeding feet, and blood all over the enclosure floor. But there weren’t even any zoo staff around for me to notify them. Most cafes were closed. Just sooooo sad 😢 Vienna Zoo needs to take notes from Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. They know how to treat animals humanely with enough space and CLEAN enclosures.

Its a big one with an organized route to see all animals. Nice playground. English communication everywhere.
