Great statue. Vienna is just great. So many beautiful buildings, greenery and architecture. This structure is also very impressive, pretty adjacent to stepensplatz.

A popular feature of Vienna that holds a dark memory. Many people walk past this memorial column not knowing that it is for the victims of the plague from centuries ago. It’s a beautiful piece of architecture in the stunning historic city center.

The Pestsaule is a Plague Column erected after the Great Plague epidemic in 1679. As with most types of columns like this in Central Europe, the column takes the form of a Trinity Column. The column is a fine example of a particularly rich Baroque style monument The column is roughly divided into three parts, from top to bottom featuring the Holy Trinity, Angels and Saints, finally at the bottom, the parts of Austro-Hungary and Leopold I giving thanks. Worth going out of the way to see this monument, such is it’s richness, it would not be out of place in a cathedral.

The Plague Column, or Trinity Column, is a Holy Trinity column located on the Graben, a street in the inner city of Vienna, Austria. Erected after the Great Plague epidemic in 1679, the Baroque memorial is one of the most well-known and prominent sculptural pieces of art in the city.

The Plague Column (German: die Wiener Pestsäule), or Trinity Column (German: Dreifaltigkeitssäule), is a Holy Trinity column located on the Graben, a street in the inner city of Vienna, Austria. Erected after the Great Plague epidemic in 1679, the Baroque memorial is one of the best known and most prominent sculptural artworks in the city representing the high Baroque period (cit Wikipedia). We were here for the New Year's eve festivities where it is tradition to dance the blue danube waltz coming from the live concert music, everyone swaying under the chandelier lights in the Graben plaza acting as an open+air ballroom at the midnight toll of the pummerin bell of the impressive st stephan's cathedral.

The Wiener Pestsäule is a tribute to the victims of the plague that broke out in Vienna in the 17th century, with various sculptural depictions. It is located in the historic center of the city, in the stephansplatz, surrounded by beautiful baroque buildings.

I came across this incredible historic sculpture while wondering around the city center. The Plaque Column or Trinity Column is a Holy Trinity column. It was erected after the Great Plaque epidemic in 1679. The Barque memorial is one of the most prominent sculptures in Vienna. The area where this sculpture sits is in the center of a pebble stet that is surrounded by shops and restaurants. The street is known as The Garben and is a shopping street.

Majestic statue in the middle of Vienna’s shopping district. Erected in the 1600’s by Holy Roman Emperor commemorating end of a plague, the column exemplifies Vienna’s blend of history and cosmopolitanism.

Although draped in netting, the power and detail of this monument can still be noticed after 330 years. Get a mocca and observe a while. Each of the three sides presents a different aspect.

(Translated by Google) In 1713, the Black Death attacked Vienna and claimed nearly 10,000 lives. At that time, Emperor Karl VI ordered that if the plague ended, a church was dedicated to a Catholic saint to commemorate. As for the origin of the church name, it is more religious. Karl Borromaus (1538-1584) was a cardinal born in Milan, Italy, and was revered as a saint by the Catholic Church. He happened to have the same name as the emperor. The church was dedicated to the saint Karl. Knowable. The Vienna Plague Column is a Baroque monument located in the center of Vienna, being one of the most important monuments in the city. The column was inaugurated in 1693, ten years after the liberation of Vienna from the Ottoman siege, and was erected in the spirit of divine mercy to remove the plague from the city. It's worth visiting.

Built to commemorate the passing of the Great Plague in 1679. This memorial to the passing of a plague stands near the centre of the old town of Vienna. The sculpture is baroque in style, and contains images of pestilence being cast down. It only takes a minute or so to see, and is close to many other tourist attractions, but it is worth seeing, partly because it inspired many similar columns in central Europe, but also because it reminds of us the difficulties our ancestors faced in times before modern medicine.

The Vienna Plague Column marks a dark chapter in Austrian history. In Vienna alone, about 100,000 are estimated to have died in 1679 during a plague epidemic. The Plague Column (also known as Trinity Column or Dreifaltigkeitssäule) commemorates its victims to this day. Reaching a height of 21 m, this Baroque gem is an impressive sight. It was commissioned by Habsburg emperor Leopold I who is eternalized on the column’s pedestal as the victor over both, the plague, and the Ottomans.

Erected after the Great Plague epidemic in 1679, the Baroque memorial is one of the best known and most prominent sculptural artworks in the city. Christine M. Boeckl, author of Images of Plague and Pestilence, calls it "one of the most ambitious and innovative sculptural ensembles created anywhere in Europe in the post-Bernini era."

The Column of Pest, or Pestsaule in German, is an impressive monument located in Vienna's city center. The monument is a symbol of the city's resilience and triumph over the bubonic plague that ravaged Vienna in the 17th century. The towering column is adorned with intricate sculptures and carvings, depicting scenes of the plague's devastation and the city's subsequent recovery. The monument is an impressive feat of engineering and design, and its historical significance adds to its appeal. As a visitor, I found the Column of Pest to be a fascinating and thought-provoking landmark that is well worth a visit for those interested in Vienna's history and culture.

The Plague Column is located on the famous Graben Street in Vienna. When you walk down this street, you won't miss it. It was built in 1693. It symbolizes the belief in the victory over the plague disease, which had previously been raging in a large part of Europe and had not missed Vienna. It is believed that the victims of the plague in the city are about 75,000. Due to its interesting design, the column is often visited and photographed by tourists.

I can't rate my fall visit to Vienna more than that! After reading many reviews it felt it was the right thing to do. But now I have to admit everything is overrated. The palaces are galleries with art and paintings - so if you are wondering what to do and you are not interested in art - do not visit - each palace has entrance fee and there are lines outside sometimes. Tried the "famous" Sachertorte in one of the cafe shops - definitely overrated - so I don't know why is the line in front of Cafe Bel Etage - probably first timers. Cafe shops are crowded - you wait to be seated, then you wait somebody to take your order, then you wait some more for the check. For some quick coffee and cake as I was thinking it took me two and a half hours. Some grocery stores are closing early and are closed on Sunday in case you are doing your own dinner. The bazars are looking ok but it was too cold outside to be able to enjoy them. Decorations were up early - in early December - something may be worth seeing after down.
