Genuinely torn on this review I love this building and really like the story about how it came about I feel like the space is drastically underused I also feel like it is very expensive for the amount of exhibitions. If you get a free ticket go - if not. Don’t bother (€19 for 2 adults) The Kunst/Beethoven piece in the basement was the highlight We also liked the gift shop - nice range. So many museums in Vienna - this shouldn’t be at the top of your list

A stupendous building characterized by total art in the times of Klimt and Wagner, inside you can admire the painter's frieze and listen to music via headphones. Subsequently, contemporary works are exhibited in another room.

The building of the Wiener Secession, built by Joseph Maria Olbrich, has a striking, architectonic appearance from the outside. While various modern exhibitions are located on the upper floor of the building, which is used as an art museum, a permanent exhibition is held on the lower floor. Klimt's Beethoven Frieze is on permanent display here, in a room created according to his measurements, and is a work worth seeing. During your visit, you can spend time comfortably in the room and, if you wish, listen to a part of the 9th symphony through the headphones provided. This is a really nice experience. Although we liked the permanent exhibition of Klimt's work and the building in general, we did not like the temporary exhibition and its display at all on the date we visited. The entrance fee to the museum is fixed and includes everything. So, you may have to pay for a ridiculous exhibition to see the building and Beethoven Frieze. Therefore, before entering, I recommend that you get information about the temporary exhibition inside and then decide.

Temple of art nouveau and modern art in the world. Just to take a good look at the building itself is enough to mesmerize you with its beauty and grandeur. Always have interesting exhibitions inside, and one can't miss the permanent display of the Beethoven Fries in the basement, featuring the authentic wall paintings by Gustav Klimt. Don't miss the gift shop, it has some very unique items you can't find anywhere else.

The building architecture makes us want to visit but that is all. The exhibition inside is never a satisfactory level. The number of displays were little, the different 3 exhibitions didn't have any connection between them. What we at least enjoyed was the permanant exhibition : Beethoven Frieze, which is also very small consisting of only one small room. The ticket is 12eur per person.

"Secession", built in 1897-1898 in Vienna according to the project of the Austrian architect Josef Maria Olbrich. This is one of the most significant architectural monuments of the Austrian, or Viennese, Art Nouveau. The formal sophistication and strength of contrasts of massive volumes, almost devoid of windows, a very prominent cornice and a gilded ball sparkling in the Sun perfectly express the creative aspirations of representatives of the new art of the early twentieth century.

Not worth the time and admission price period. The one small basement room with the Klimt painting was very nice, but you better spend your time and money on other works by Klimt in nicer museums. Also, don't buy the audio guide (3 euro) since you can get everything online for free.

Disjointed museum with disjointed pieces with disjointed write-ups. The pickle/brine/submerged art is played out. The Tishan Hsu exhibit was in too big of a space for it to make effective sense. The Beethoven Frieze could have had more complements at eye-level beyond just headphones playing music. The rest of the rooms didn’t draw the visitors in at all. Ticket prices did not commiserate what was displayed.

Beautiful art nouveau building in central Vienna used as a modern art gallery. The gallery and building were established by a group of Viennese artists in the early 20C who broke away or seceded (hence the name) from mainstream artistic principles. It contains a beautiful frieze by Klimt.

I found the secession building really underwhelming. The mural by Klimt is lovely but the room it is in is odd; a basement room that feels like a mausoleum. There is no other art work by the secessionist’s in the building which I find odd as that was the reason for its existence in the first place. The stuff in the shop is nice but overpriced.

What a great experience! A chance to drive a little hot rod around town and explore the sights. The guide talks to you in your ear piece as you pass landmarks. The cars are lively so be sure to hang on tight, that said these are not underpowered so they can really move. You hit a little open road as you cross the bridge so there's a chance to stretch the legs. The team are friendly and professional, highly recommend to anyone visiting town!

The building in itself is a masterpiece and it houses Klimt's magnum opus, "Beethoven Frieze". The museum admission costs €9.50 and the audio guide is an additional €3. In my opinion the audio guide is worth it because it offers very interesting insights into the piece. When you enter the room, they also have separate headphones (free of charge) playing clips of Beethoven's compositions. It's a lovely experience. Slow down and enjoy the experience.

The building is a visual masterpiece. We paid to see Gustav Klimt's Beethovenfries, this was the only exhibit open due to renovation work. In fact you listen to Wagner's take on Beethoven's 9th whilst looking at the frieze. Glad I had the explanation!

Titled recent work 2023, the American artist Tishan Hsu’s exhibition at the Secession consists entirely of new works. After his first major retrospective, which opened at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles in 2020 and then traveled to the SculptureCenter in New York, where Hsu lives, the artist’s work was prominently featured in the central exhibition The Milk of Dreams at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022.

Modern art isn't really my bag at all, but that doesn't mean I don't recognise the Secession as worth visiting. It's is an unusual building with an interesting history that stands out amongst many of the . The interior spaces are stark compared to the eye-catching exterior, but they do show off the exhibits well and aren't as distracting as the interior of some other museums. The Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt is well worth seeing, but during my visit there was a large teaching class taking up a lot of space in the room making it difficult to view the Frieze in peace.

We had a fantastic time driving around Vienna on the hot rod tour. Our guide Luca did a great job keeping the group together and leading us through the city. The radios were great for communicating with each other during the ride. If you’re short, bring a pillow to put behind your back because it will be hard to reach the pedals. Only negative is that it’s difficult to actually see the city and understand what you are looking at because you will be so focused on trying to drive safely.

(Translated by Google) Casual thing for all gasoline brothers (and sisters) who like to heat in tin-paneled go-karts through Vienna and want to be surprised by the many bumps and road damage of the city - which you usually do not get along in the rush hour due to the well-sprung noble cars. Due to the very ground-based locomotion and the fact that the Vienna Rush Hour cares relatively little for the unusual projectiles, it is better to leave anxious thoughts a la Koratorium for traffic safety at home and the whole simply in the sense of the inventor as "Giant Gaude" enjoy 😎 PS .: please credit at least one + point to Florian's Guide account 😉 (Original) Lässige Sache für alle Benzinbrüder (und Schwestern) die gerne in blechverkleideten Go-Karts durch Wien heizen und sich von den vielen Bodenwellen und Fahrbahnschäden der Stadt überraschen lassen wollen - die man normalerweise im Berufsverkehr aufgrund der gut gefederten Nobelkarossen gar net so mitkriegt.

The building is beautiful and definitely worth viewing from the outside. I really expected there to be more to see inside but it was one Klimt mural and three other small artist installations. Not worth the ticket price.

Just went there to see Klimt and there was not a number of pieces but one of his most notable work that you cannot see anywhere else!! You can also experience see his art while listening to Beethoven! I was there on Summer 2022 and found €10 euros a little expensive, that is why I am giving only 4 stars, but for me it was worth because I wanted to see this legacy of Klimt’s work!

My husband and I are monogamous. He is the kind of guy who likes one thing and sticks with it - impressionism. This trip to the Secession reawakened his passion for art - specifically Art Nouveau. The opal skin shining through the wall is alluring and can light way to an open relationship for art. Don’t forget to bask in the Beethoven Frieze while listening Richard Wagner’s interpretation of the Ninth Symphony.

For 10e I paid to see this it was totally disappointing. I do not recommend it. (Original) Si vais por el fresco de Gustav klimt he de decir que no os perdéis tanto. Had a friend over for the weekend in Vienna and wanted something to do for a couple of hours then we saw this tuk tuk type car and asked the driver what it was about , it was a tour of Vienna so we asked how much and it was only 29 euros or 2 people for an hour and a half , so bargain... Driver was great , told us where we should go and what to see where to eat and drink and so on....would recommend this over a tour bus with the heat in Vienna ....much cooler and a good laugh .... found out you can book it through the hot rod tour vienna site....

Driving at night through the busy streets of Vienna made me enjoy how I hadn't enjoyed it for so many years! The tour took us to the Donau Turm on which we went to admire the landscape and then, once you get off, we walked around the Ring Boulevard and then back to the parking lot! All the way we were escorted by the Safety Car in front of us, led by Stefan who was really good! While we walked the streets he was a tour guide on the radio and gave us information on the various historical sites near which we passed! It also gave us important information on roads, traffic and everything needed to safely drive and have fun! It is not easy in a review to explain the sensations felt but I really recommend to live this experience because it is really worth it! I had a lot of fun and if I go back to Vienna I book again a tour !!! (Original) Una sola parola, Meraviglioso!!! (Translated by Google) I did the daylight tour on Hotrod Tours. We were briefed on how to use the vehicles and then a short "practice round". When it started, it was quite exciting to finally get on the road with the small but quite strong "cars". Stefan drove us in a company car, with a replacement car in the trunk, driven by what I think is great, because it can ever 'go in' a car and then not have to cancel the round I find very well organized with the replacement car in the front. The route was well chosen via the Praterstraße and the Reichsbrücke bridge to the old Danube and after a short refueling stop over the ring back. There were also 2 short stops to take pictures. I find it hard to recommend this tour - it pays off and is a nice little adventure. So and now to the negative recessions here: 129 € for the 2 hours is full o.k. and that you do not spend 2 hours around, but the briefing and the short refueling depart from it is absolutely o.k. I think and from the outset clear and no surprise about which you can get upset in retrospect. The extra insurance is voluntary and a good offer to reduce the balance in case of damage - volunteer - no MUST complete and pay! I do not know which inexperienced drivers did the tour, they thought the brakes were bad and put it on the road, if they were not quite straight and smooth, probably people driving new cars with all technology and with direct steering and brakes without brake booster did not count- wow- and then due to the ignorance of such inexperienced motorists to write a negative recession, I just think stupid. Exactly this "direct thing" is the great thing about these vehicles - you just have to deal with it! Absolutely cool and thanks again to Stefan !!! And if anyone thinks I belong to the Hotrodteam- that is not so!

Let's just say that if their mission is finding contemporary art movements as revolutionary as the Secession in fin-de-siecle Vienna, they haven't succeeded. It's your utterly basic contemporary art museum with Beethoven frieze in basement.

  • 5/5 Rudi B. 2 years ago on Google
Probably the most iconic Vienna Fin-de-siècle building. A must see for every Klimt fan.

  • 2/5 Mrs. N. 2 years ago on Google
We were super disappointed. The exception was totally lame, very little explanation. The only Klimt left was downstairs in one room. The beautiful history of the place, the artwork that was produced within these halls, the liberty it gave women at the time, nth nth nth was mentioned. We cannot recommend as we felt our time as well as our money was completely waisted.

  • 2/5 Jerry L. 2 years ago on Google
Gave it a chance, was not a fan of the actual art. The silver lining is that I was able to have an in depth conversation with my sons about what art was to them and what it means for something to be classified as art.

  • 5/5 Marielle P. 2 years ago on Google

  • 5/5 Stan S. 2 years ago on Google
If you love Klimt you will enjoy the Beethoven frescoes... The rest is dedicated to hyper modern installation and will depend on your personal taste. It's a small museum and with few historic objects

  • 2/5 Pablo Cárdenas R. 2 years ago on Google
Besides the architecture the percentage of secession art is marginal (in the basement). The curator of contemporary art seems a bit too sophisticated. I wouldn’t call the museum Secession but a “gallery of hyper-sophisticated contemporary art”. Nothing against closed art circles. I just think I was expecting something else.

  • 3/5 Leon R. 2 years ago on Google
Nice infrustucture. Nice location, beautiful building. However, I haven't liked the exhibitions. It depends on your taste. However, if you like secession it is a good place to visit.

  • 4/5 L B. 1 year ago on Google
I really appreciate its historical & artistic values. The Beethoven's frieze had informative brochures in different languages + the staff gave you headphones so you could listen to the symphony while admiring the art so you could recreate the story better. The downsides: the regular ticket was too expensive having in mind that it was just 1 Klimt painting. Moreover, the other exhibitions were kind of out of context and not very impressive. Greetings to the man who was giving the headphones -very kind & tranquil

Good museum with some decent prices. The highlight is the Klint exhibition on basement level 2. However the rest of the exhibits are quite small and won’t take too long to enjoy. You can spend about an hour here.

  • 4/5 Pilar M. 1 year ago on Google
9.5€ for the entry (+3€ for guide) is perhaps a little on the expensive side for what the museum has to offer, as the collection is quite limited. However it’s worth visiting if you have some spare time.

  • 4/5 -- 1 year ago on Google
The building is very Spartan and hosts Klimt's Beethoven frieze in a climate controlled basement. Thanks to the Stop Oil protesters one has to leave pretty much everything one has before accessing the exhibition areas, there are lockers for this purpose but one needs €1 coin or token to lock them. Klimt's painting covers 4 walls although the bits of interest are mostly in one of the smaller walls and in two much smaller fragments in the others, the rest being almost bare bar for dreamy women figures that are barely visible. The painting is deservedly revered but it may leave some people cold. In this occasion the museum provided headphones playing Beethoven's 9th in a loop, but this may have changed by the time other people read this. There are temporary exhibition spaces, the artist that was in residence in the big ground floor room wasn't of my liking but clearly few will leave without having at least a quick look. Thanks Mr Klimt for that. If I was visiting Vienna in a hurry I may have not visited the place, but if you have a very leisurely timeframe you will end here at some point.

  • 1/5 Sam L. 1 year ago on Google
We just happened to be walking by so decided to drop in. Definitely a skip in my opinion. Go see Klimt at the Belvedere. The wall murals look half finished. Located high on the walls so you can't get a close intimate look at the paintings.

  • 5/5 Ana Campos M. 1 year ago on Google
Small beautiful museum worth to pay a visit. It is the world’s oldest independent exhibition institution specifically dedicated to contemporary art. Admire Beethoven’s frieze in the basement, one of Klimt’s key works and a highlight of Viennese Art Nouveau.

Worst wasted money ever!! 12£ to see only this and a tiny contemporary "art" exhibition that does not deserve a photo: just lava lamps and a shower curtain with scrubbles. Avoid! Only good point: you can take small dogs inside, but even my dog disliked it and would have preferred to wait outside.

  • 5/5 TK 6 months ago on Google
Came on a late Sunday afternoon and paid the admission just to visit Klimt’s Beethovenfries. Worth every penny! I bought souvenirs at the gift shop too.

  • 2/5 Adrien B. 8 months ago on Google • 1 review
The building in itself is beautiful, and the Gustav Klimt's Beethovenfries is great (but rather small). However, the rest of the space is used for temporary exhibitions and mostly contemporary art. If it's your thing, sure, go ahead. But we paid 31,50€ for 3 people! (2 adults and 1 student) to see one experimental movie 1hour long and lava lamps... LAVA LAMPS!!?!?!? And it was part of an "exhibition"... I thought I was at an IKEA's showroom in 70's! I guess this is highly dependent on the current exhibition but the one I saw does definitely not encourage me to go again. If you love contemporary art, there are better museums in Vienna. If you like beautiful buildings, there are better ones in Vienna. If you like art, there are better museums in Vienna. Again, if you think you'd like it, go ahead everyone has different tastes. But I strongly advise you not to go inside. Take a picture outside and be on your way.
