We, as an asian, were being irrespected by staff. This is a traditional cafe recommended by the local tour of the free walking tour. The surrounding and environment is nice. The pumpkin soup is good and recommended. The white wine with soda is fair. The breaded chicken is so fair that doesn't worth the price (16€). The service of the staff is fair. The toilet is clean.

During my business trip in Vienna I came to this cafe after I did a walking tour and met a few people. During the tour the suggested this cafe so we came to have some typical coffees and sweets. Service was very good! Waiter was always very attentive and they were quite fast serving. We ordered different coffees with different liquors and kaiserschmarrn as I wanted the other guys to try this . Food and coffee was quite good and we all had a great time! Next time in Vienna I'll definitely come back here

Really bad service, waited ages to be seated before we finally sat down, then didn't get a menu and when I went up to ask for one was rudely told to wait by the waiter. For such a fancy/expensive place very strange service where they make you feel like an inconvenience just for being there... Other customers were waiting to be seated and served similar to us. Cake was lovely but wouldn't recommend for the service.

Quite an antique place with lots of seniors hanging out. I liked the old school decorations of the place. The waiter did his job right and recommended me a real delicious wine 🍷 I tried the Sachertorte and it was exceptional 🤩 😋 I added photos of the menu parts.

Seems like I've been served by the same waiter that many of the other reviewers complained about. Extremely arrogant and rude to us when we were seated, threw our menus roughly on the table, made a lot of loud annoyed noises behind our backs. He had a completely different attitude towards an older Austrian (?) couple who were seated near us. Prices of food were overpriced and my homemade ice tea was water with flavored syrup. AVOID.

Historic cafe in central Vienna offering coffee, pastries and full breakfast and dinner menus. They had quite a few vegetarian options, which were flavorful. Unlike Cafe Demel or Cafe Central, which are nearby, there was no ridiculous line to get in. The service staff were very nice but a little slow even for Viennese standards.

I don't know what the other people who reviewed this place have been snorting but it's really not that good. Coffee was nice, sure, but the pastries and cakes were mediocre at best and certainly not worth the reputation given off by our tour guide.

The good service is not their highlight, but it is certainly worth the visit. It would be 4 stars, but it is hard not to give it a top rating after trying the Quark Strudel (I think that's the name). And if you don't intend to spend more than 20eur, payment is by cash only.

Great cafe near the shopping area in Vienna. Nice seating outdoors perfect to enjoy a melange some bread with jam and observe the people passing by. They offer some great food here and the ambiance is enjoyable. Stop for a coffee or even a meal and you will be glad you did.

Very tasty food. I had the Wiener snitzel and it was much better thank other places. Good lemonades and nice variety of coffee drinks. Nice place on a side street, in the shade and away from the crowdy main street

Absolutely adorable cafe tucked just off of a heavily touristed pedestrian street. It is far less crowded than anything on Kärntnerstraße and the food is wonderful. I had the schokocino and a sweet potato waffle with mashed avocado, real bacon (iykyk), and a fried egg. It honestly felt exactly like something I would be able to get back home in California which was a happy surprise!

The seating is a bit shambolic though it is cosy, and the usual ‘Vienna’ flourishes of plush cushioned seating, glass chandeliers and sconces make it feel a bit more ‘luxus’ than it otherwise would. There were no newspapers, German language or otherwise, when we visited. I mention this because the availability of daily newspapers is a known fixture of old/traditional Viennese cafes. Here you’ll find the ‘smallest’ serves of coffee in Vienna. For the district, it’s okay price-wise but the cost of coffee is steep for what you get in terms of quality and quantity. Breakfast is just okay, nothing to write home about. Service is slow, and slower. Tip: ask for ‘ein portion cafe’ or a pot of coffee if you want to hang out for more than a couple of minutes or you will certainly need to order again and it will cost €€.

Beautiful charming classic antique cafe in the shopping center of vienna .the interiors just take you back to the good old days and how hustling and bustling this place is. It kind of feels like locals' favorite. We tried chocolate cake which was lovely

The charming classic Viennese interior makes you feel like you're in another era. Unexpectedly for such historical places, the food here is very tasty and the service is excellent. Prices are a little higher than in similar cafes, but it's worth it.

I had been eagerly anticipating a delightful hot chocolate experience at the oldest café in Vienna. Upon arrival, we patiently waited to be seated, considering the café was bustling with customers, which was understandable. After being seated, however, we had to wait an additional 20 minutes before a member of the staff came to take our order. Given the busy atmosphere, we acknowledged the delay. While most tables were adorned with tablecloths, the waiter took one to place on the table next to mine but neglected to do the same for mine. Although it didn't particularly bother me, there seemed to be a lack of consistency in their service. Finally, our order was taken, but from that point onward, our experience turned into a complete disaster. We waited a staggering 40 minutes before the waiter brought us our cake, and an additional 10 minutes before the hot chocolate arrived. Now, I appreciate a nice, thick hot chocolate with a dollop of fresh cream on top, but what I received was a lukewarm chocolate with melted cream. It appeared as though the chocolate had been left sitting on the bar counter for quite some time, diminishing its quality. To add to the frustration, getting the attention of our waiter to request the bill proved to be an arduous task, as we had to endure an extended period of waiting. This entire experience truly dampened my enjoyment and left me feeling disappointed. It is disheartening to say that my overall experience at this café was far from pleasant. The delays, inconsistent service, and subpar quality of the hot chocolate left a lasting negative impression. For a place boasting such historical significance, I had hoped for a more memorable and satisfying visit.

Very old school Vienna. Interesting decor. Old fashioned. Waiters in black Tuxedo and Dickie bows. I had 2 lovely frankurters with a bread roll (semmel) served with mustard and fresh horse radish (kren) A small mixed salad, potato salad, coleslaw, tomato, cucumber, lettuce. Tasty The gulasch soup was very good with great flavour. Coffee was great served in an interesting double walled glass. Not cheap but not expensive. Worth the treat. Just off the main drag. Claims to be oldest establishment in Vienna.

One of the best, traditional, cafes in Vienna. We come to this cafe at least once when we are back in Vienna. I used to come here ca 2-3 times a week while living in Vienna. Has excellent, traditional Viennese, lunch food, and is a cozy place in winter. Definitely worth going. Maybe you will become a regular.

Besides the long wait on our food, (there was a miscommunication to the kitchen), I would still recommend the place. The food was good and the waiter made up very professionally for the long wait and came with some nice desserts on the house. The total atmosphere was nice.

We were lucky enough to get a table from walk in @cafefrauenhuber despite it being extremely busy. Having eaten so much recently I decided to have a soup for lunch while the others had cordon Bleu and schnitzel. The soup pot is a beef stock with pieces of beef, vegetables and shredded crepes. It was full of flavour and something I would order again in the future. The restaurant is very warm so make sure you come dressed in layers during winter. Service is quite abrupt but efficient.

The atmosphere, interior, dishes - it all comes together creating some kind of internal coziness, I really liked it. It felt like I didn't know that I always wanted to sit in this cafe with a strudel but I finally did it. One downside we had was the service - as far as I understand we were lucky enough to get the same waiter most people here complained about. And yes, it really felt like the guy wanted us out of there asap

The food was excellent, the service was typical Viennese (slow, but friendly) and the atmosphere was wonderful, with live piano music. 5 stars for all of those, so why did I give 4 stars overall? They really don’t like you paying by credit card. If they want cash only they should post that before you even enter the place. They will take credit if you have absolutely no cash on you, and in this post-pandemic world who carries cash anymore?

Nice waiter, amazing strudels, Sacher cake and Kaiserschmarrn. A traiditional café, (open since 1827!) without the tourist crowds and waiting in line. ✨ They also have main dishes.

  • 1/5 Alexandra G. 5 months ago on Google
The apfelstrudel was served cold and the apples felt quite acid. So the cake didn’t taste good. And neither did the coffee… the waiters do not smile, it is like you are bothering them. Plus you wait for quite a bit for a waiter to give you a seat. Quite disappointing for a Wiener cafe!

  • 2/5 Shay R. 3 years ago on Google
The food was Okey. Not something really exciting though. But the service was really deplorable. The waiters are really anthipatic. I wanted to leave, I hate feeling like I am not welcome. My man who's waaaay more patient than me insisted that we should stay, cause I wanted to try this place for the history it has behind it. It's still a must try but only if you can take this kind of service.

Customer care zero, interior worn, they wanted to add something to our bill which we didn’t order, the waiter was careless, pushy and phlegmatic. Did not expect to experience racist attitude towards Asians in Vienna. There was no staff at the entrance so we have to walk all the way inside hoping we would get some attention and not one but three waiters chose to ignore us and walk by as if we were their obstacles... Then we kindly asked them in English for information and we received one or two German words in return from one waiter as he continued to do his “job”. After patiently waiting for 5 more minutes we left with no further explanation from any of the staff. Luckily we did not have to spent any money here. If you are desparated to get some food, there are some McDonald or Burger King in the area, which we have no doubt they will provide better service than this so-called restaurant.

A normal coffee shop in Vienna. Nothing Special. Prices are very high and then they try to rip of everyone. Even a normal hot chocolate is a hot milk with color. The sugar bag contains commercials. Sachertorte is not original and even worse than a piece you can get in a cheap grocery everywhere in Austria. Maybe it's really a masterpiece how you can do it this way of wrong. If you are a tourist ... Please don't think that's Vienna, go somewhere else and be happy in your holliday. 1 star is ok because the building is old and gives a nice atmosphere for a coffee shop.

The most terrible attitude that I have ever experienced in my life. Racism towards foreigners!!!! We went to the “famous” restaurant highly recommended by a local tour guide. I did not expect such a huge disappointment and disrespect, especially in “the most wanted city” like Vienna. We kindly asked for a table for 3 people. Three staffs stood there and ignored us for 5 minutes (it seems like we were invisible!). We asked one of the staff and the lady responded in German without even looking at us. Then we found out that the kitchen is closed (finally one of the staffs spoke), and tried to ask for a cake in the fridge and no one cared to respond. Meanwhile there were still many empty tables in the restaurant. We left and no one dares to care a bit. Even McDonald does a better job!

The oldest coffe house in Vienna. The very first moment you step in you have the feeling that you went centuries back. Try the goulash soup it’s perfect and also the kaseirschamarm! Waiters could be more friendly but it’s this way all over the Vienna. Enjoy!
