I had a traditional Schnitzel from Vienna with potatoes salad. The Schnitzel was super tasty and the salad was fresh and delicious! The Schnitzel portion was so generous that I was not able to order a dessert because I was so full from the meal!!! This is a place not to miss in Vienna!!

At the time of my review, Kaffee Alt Wien has been around for more than 100 years. That's an impressive feat in and of itself. Although it's quite a large place (has entrances on both streets), it won't be easy to get a table, especially during the rush hours, so I'd recommend getting a reservation first. We were lucky but we did have to wait a little bit before an unreserved table cleared out. The service was very nice and our waiters were really friendly, which we appreciated. They also spoke English and the menu was easy to understand as well. The food was delicious and filling. It also arrived quite fast. I absolutely loved the Viennese Apple Strudel. It's by far one of the best I've had in Vienna.

I've been here for a lunch with a group of friends. The location is very nice and cozy, with red sofas and interesting things on the wall. Food was nice, the chicken schnitzel was very good and also the potato salad with mayonnaise. The service was quite slow, and a dish was forgotten. Overall a good experience anyway.

Love! Food was fantastic and loved the atmosphere. My mom and I went for dinner (veal and chicken schnitzel-huge portions and delicious) and the the staff was super friendly and didn’t rush you. I really like that it’s a relaxed place where you could hang with friends or go solo. It felt inviting and the prices were reasonable. Also, apple strudel. So good!!

Saw a video on youtube about this restaurant and decided to have breakfast here and give it a try. The food and staff are good but i must say that the waiting time must be improved. The food was served after almost an hour (please note that i ordered only egg, bacon, and sausage). My breakfast turned into brunch. One couple got impatient and cancelled their order and left.

A surprise chance given we were not on the waiting list of Ludeck and other fine establishments. One of the best tasting apfelstrudel in Wien, order both kinds to taste best of both worlds...oh the wiener schnitzel was just as good...english speaking staff available..a must visit!!!

Breakfast visit 9am on a Sunday morning, so it was still quiet but tables filling as time passed. Great surroundings. Real lazy brunch sort of place that can be imagined being transformed into an atmosphere -filled bar at night. Music and theatre posters lining the walls, wooden floors, well stocked bar. Modern breakfast menu - think eggs and avocado. Friendly multi-lingual staff giving good service and preparing tasty food. Went with egg and toast. Didn't need lunch! A place worth seeking out.

Never again. Most RUDE and disrespectful waiter ever. He forced our party to a tiny table and when my boyfriend had no space (sitting in the the back of another person) and moved, the waiter pounded on the table and yelled at him to get up. He served all dishes and took orders without saying a word and slammed things down. Cherry on top: When my boyfriend asked for the invoice, the waiter simply yelled 'PAY! ' and pushed the card reader in his face. We are shocked by this experience and never ever returning and discouraging everyone from doing so. Btw a simple pork schnitzel is EUR 19 without any garnish - add a tiny salad for 6 EUR! Not worth it.

The most memorable thing about this place is the awful service from one particular waiter. He was miserable, disinterested, unhelpful and rude. He really shouldn't be working in a cafe. If the management read this review, I'm happy to share more details and can identify him. The apple strudel was ok, but far too much custard drenched over the top (rather than separate).

My wife and I just had the best Apple Shrudles in Vienna with Vanilla cream. The hot chocolate is to die for. Highly recommended. The atmosphere is great and the staff very friendly and professional.

Cozy spot to do some work late into the night! Apple strudel is the best I’ve had. Well worth the price tag and very filling. Loved the ham sandwich as well. Great meal to fit the lovely atmosphere. Service was very attentive and friendly. One of my favorite spots in Vienna.

Very cute place with pub/bar vibes. English menus are available. Food is excellent. Atmosphere is lovely and it’s not too busy. Only issue is the waiter said it was a higher amount when I asked to pay in cash but since today’s my last day I was out of euros and paid on card. The amount was lower but he said tips not included and he would add 10%. Again, would have tipped anyway but the waiter doing that and not leaving the receipt on the table so I could decide how much to tip/if I wanted to tip in cash gave it a bad vibe. I was going to get breakfast there tomorrow morning but I will probably skip it due to this.

Wow, had the daily special, which I think was Chicken Paprikash and Nokedli (Spaetzle). Absolutely amazing! Cost 10.90 euro each, plus a few beers all up we paid 34.30. I think the daily specials are the way to go!

Very cool atmosphere and nice waiters... A favorite for many locals. The food looked really good! Edit: Meanwhile I have tried to dishes here and can confirm, that the food is really good too. Had the chicken Schnitzel for example, that was really juicy and well done! Definitely worth eating there! They also have noon-time menus, that don't last very long, because so many people eat there... officially until 3 PM

So the Kaffee Alt Wien, not to be confused with the Wien Alt Kaffee, is FANTASTIC! Everything we had there was great. My girlfriend and I went there twice on our weekend trip to Vienna. We had schnitzel, frankfurters, goulash, and an apple strudel. Of the savory things, the goulash was the star of the show FOR SURE. Tender, falling apart meat, rich absolutely delicious sauce, one of the best I've had. And that apple strudel is something else. Really fresh, warm, and very very delicious. Plus the servers were all awesome. They were very friendly, welcoming and fun. This is a gem of Vienna, at pretty reasonable prices.

I would have given this place a five stars had the staff lost the attitude and been friendlier and faster. they never came to get our orders till we had to practically get out of our table to call them, since our table was in a corner and they basically forgot about it. The coffee was great and the apple strudel was amazing tho, so if i ever come back it would be for that alone.

Just had a wonderful dinner here. I watched a YouTube video recommending this restaurant for apple strudel so I decided to give it a go since I was in town. The food was good but what stood out to me was the excellent customer service. The gentlemen working there made sure everyone felt welcomed and comfortable. Highly recommend!

The cafe is located in the center of Vienna's 1st district yet it feels so authentic and cozy. I went there specifically for the Apfelstrüdel and it was worth every penny. The waiter was extremely welcoming, and the strüdel came ready in a few minutes even though the venue was full of people. Absolutely a "5/5 would recommend".

Amazing place. I have been a regular at Cafe Alt Wien for nearly 10 years before I moved away. It has the best Gulasch in town. It’s a multifaceted place: a cafe, a great lunch place, an amazing Beisl (=pub + food & drinks place for the evenings) and closes relatively late (compared to many other comparable places). I definitely recommend. I go back to it every time I visit Vienna.

We enjoyed our visit to Kaffee Alt Wien. I ordered a cup of coffee and slice of apple strudel, my partner had a beer and a sausage snack. Food was good but nothing amazing. The atmosphere is great here though - it is vibrant and cozy, seats are very comfortable, it is the perfect spot to go after a day of exploring the lovely city of Vienna. Shoutout to the waiter who was very attentive and friendly.

Amazing hospitality. I ordered Viennese melange coffee and Viennese Apple strudel with whipped cream which was delicious. My server Andy ( Androsch) went out of the way to get me a seat near the plug point as I needed to work on my laptop. Also I ordered potato with parsley. It was also alright. Had a good time. Warm and welcoming place ❤️ opens till 2 am everyday. Their speciality is goulash and schnitzel which I could not try because I am vegetarian.

The front part is nice, the posters and noise makes it comfortable. There was no seating there though, we had to sit in the back. It was nice, but quiet. The old Viennese cake wasn’t great in my opinion. There wasn’t a long wait for anything and my oh my, the bathrooms were really cool. Not that that’s important though.

I ordered the cheese noodles (5/10). The lettuce salad that came with it had a hearty drizzle of vinegar, which I liked. The waiter warned us that we had to wait for 30 minutes for our cooked food, so be prepared to wait a little if you are ordering food here too.

  • 5/5 Fabio A. T. 4 years ago on Google
Classy cafe, definitely central European in its style and design. The goulash was good, the spinachs were delicious and the egg perfectly cooked to be soft but not uncontrollable. A mixed attendance with people from all generations but mostly 25 and up. If you're younger, however, probably wouldn't feel out of place if you appreciate its spirit. One of the walls was decorated with tonnes of posters (concerts, football, etc.). In a word, the place old-fashioned and at the same time up to date. Give it a shot for dinner.

  • 5/5 Andrea A. 4 years ago on Google
Located in small street near downtown, this place gives you a cozy vintage vibe. They have fair prices and such a friendly staff, they even joke with us. Let me start by saying i just went there for dessert and beer, and this apple strudel was an awsome experience, because it was so good i was even going to order a second slice. But also the two tables and all their occupants next to me were having schnitzel, so i can assume it is their star dish and most likely pretty good. Basically, i can't wait to go back.

  • 3/5 G M. 1 year ago on Google
Had a late lunch here and the food and service were good, but the apple strudel which came highly recommended left to be desired. Somewhere on YouTube this place comes highly recommended for their apple strudel, but the apple strudel was the worst part of our meal. Desert is supposed to put a smile on your face, but this one did not. The other issue is that the wait was soooooo long!!! We were seated immediately, and it took 40 min for someone to take our order, then another 30 min for the food to come, then 20 min for desert to come, and another 20 min for the check… the place was not that full…

Tasty food, as would say as close as it can be a touristic restaurant. The goulash was very tasty , and the pork snitzel looked very good as well. On the cons I would point the service and the cleaning level

This place has the best Wiener Schnitzel in Vienna! Good prices and very friendly staff. We liked the old traditional atmosphere.

  • 3/5 Luv2 T. 10 months ago on Google
We ordered the Apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce (unfortunately it was not flaky and crisp at all- the bottom was soggy because of the sauce - but surprisingly the top was also soft). Not a pleasant experience for our first apfelstrudel in Vienna. We also ordered the cheesy dumplings (käse Spätzel). It needed salt and pepper to give it flavor- unfortunately not flavorful at all. The texture was good- the cheese was somewhat ooey gooey- but it quickly congealed. Sadly, Wasn’t too thrilled with the eats. On the bright side- the ladies bathroom had a disco ball and light show if you push the red button in the mirror! Be sure to check out the bathroom!

We had Wiener Schnitzel and Fiakergulasch. Both tasted good but were a little bit salty to my palate. The potato salad coming with the Wiener Schnitzel was surprisingly super delicious. Their homemade lemonade was worth a try as well.

Got the Kaiser breakfast & Avocado til infinity with bacon on the side. Also got the Apple strudel. Food overall was great. Just a heads up, the chili in the toast was very spicy. I enjoy spicy, but for those who don’t, it definitely gives a strong kick to it. Staff was very kind.

This is an old-school Vienna coffee house that has been around for around 100 years now. Environs are slightly dim lit, smoky environs and just d*mn good coffee. Espresso is solid, bold, strong, slightly nutty and just very good flavour. Melange, Großer Brauner and Einspänner all taste very good as well if you prefer your coffee with a bit of milk or whipped cream.

The food was good. We had goulash with bread and schnitzel(large and perfect) and apple strudel . Fare prices for Vienna center. They refuse to serve tap water, although Vienna has such great water(still intrigued). It was not possible to pay with card. But i recommend it though. :) It was tasty!

The service was very speedy! The ghoulash and ghoulash soup were very rich and tender a they come with bread rolls so they are filling for a good price. The Apple strudels are mouth watering too! Would recommend to anyone in town. And for the ladies… you won’t regret pressing the red button in the bathroom!!!!

Kaffee Alt Wien offers a great bohemian atmosphere, good food, and typical Viennese staff. Schnitzel, goulash, and all the classics are listed on the menu, along with good beer. Walls are plastered with posters of local art shows, galleries, and concerts. Young students (and not-so-young ones) mingle here with tourists. This is a great place to go and see some nightlife if you want to skip the bar, since it’s open until 2 am! In summer, there might be ac in the back… (My only grievance is the boring new annex and the terribly soulless outside seating area.)

(Translated by Google) Great, typically old Vienna as you can rarely find it! Food also very good, waiters courteous and attentive (Original) Super, typisch Alt Wien wie man es nur noch selten findet! Essen auch sehr gut, Kellner zuvorkommend und aufmerksam

(Translated by Google) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Extended with a new dining room. 'Wiener Schnitzel' (baked pork schnitzel) very good. The accompanying potato salad was the best I've ever eaten in an inn / restaurant! So if the 'remaining' food is so good, it will be difficult to get a seat in the restaurant in the future. In the 80s and 90s my regular pub. Should I visit again more !!! ⭐️⭐️ 1st day after Corona lock: Enjoy the long-awaited schnitzel and potato salad. The two of us, ALONE in the restaurant. Waiter brisk and friendly as always! But the cut meat had a "sting", was flaky, dry. The salad consisted of thick lovelessly cut potatoes. The fried chicken: was chicken strips on potato salad. LOVELY !!! The whole gastronomy struggles (goes up to 30% with the prices down) and here you are served as the only guest, as if you didn't care. Not me!!! (Original) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mit neuem SPEISESAAL erweitert. ‚Schnitzel Wiener Art' (gebackenes Schweinsschnitzel) sehr gut.
