It’s one of the popular coffee houses in Vienna and it doesn’t disappoint! Expect a queue to get in, but you won’t wait too long. The building is beautiful both outside and in. We were greeted by a friendly waiter and taken to our seats towards the back of the cafe. It had a lively atmosphere and plenty of tourists taking pictures of everything, including me! Our waiter was amazing and so friendly. The service was prompt and spot on! We ordered soup to start and it was delicious. Next came the cakes… we didn’t order the usual Sachertorte or Apple strudel as there’s plenty of other exquisite cakes we wanted to try! The ones we’d chosen were so so delicious!!!! Compliments to the chefs!! The coffees were fantastic and we were really pleased with the visit. It’s worth the wait!! We brought a little snow globe as our souvenir to remind us of our visit!!

Nice atmosphere, beautiful location, lovely traditional Austrian inferior, and pleasant piano music played live. Sadly the food was lacking in flavor factor we would have expected from this quality of restaurant. Nice for tourist who are looking for an Austrian meal with an English menu however.

Don't take me wrong , the place itself is amazing, very gentle employees, multilingual environment, polite approach etc. But the service was very very slow, and I mean about 20 minutes between sitting and dirt dish arrived, and we are talking of a quick cappuccino and a cake already prepared behind the glass. Another negative point is there I am happy to pay more than the average bar when I get something better than the average product. No, this was not the case. My Sacher was a mediocre cake with soft chocolate and too much sugar, very disappointed from the Queen of the Austrian cakes, especially in Vienna and in such a place. In the end food ** Place **** Coffee ****

We enjoyed our experience. The schnitzel was crispy and tender. The tafelspitz was delicious and the hazelnut cake was sublime! There was live museum there as well. The interior was beautiful. We were unable to make a reservation and decided to line up. It only took 20 minutes to get in. Definitely worth the wait!

This famous cafe is a must go. The queue might be long but it’s well worth the wait. The queue also moves fast. Our server was efficient and accommodating. It is worth to note that they are really busy so be understanding or look at the menu online ahead of time to know the menu. The deserts on display was show stopping and I definitely recommend it.

Lovely service and setting! The historic decors are very inspiring and beautiful to relax in. Our food was delicious and came in huge portions - it was great value! And the service is famous for its courtesy and efficiency. There’s always a queue outside but it’s well worth the wait.

One of the most hyped cafes in central Vienna. The waiting time without reservation is more than an hour during holiday season. The restaurant offers an amazing interior and wide range of dessert and coffees. Dining there is a unique experience in itself so it is definitely a must visit place.

Great place for dinner, although the waiting time is consistent. There is a queue outside most of the time. Many tourist are coming to have dinner at ‘Cafe Central’ for the beauty of the old building and its architecture. There also many who enters take pictures and leaving, which makes the queue unbearable. The atmosphere inside is average while the interior architecture is spectacular. Food is above average from quality perspective with prices from moderate to high.

We visited without an appointment and waited in line for less than an hour. The restaurant was spacious, but there was a piano playing next to our seats, so we could not talk slowly. The piano performance itself was very good. The Cafe Central cakes, which I had been curious about, were especially delicious. The service was not too much, but fairly normal.

Nice place, ambience, good food, fast and friendly service. We reach there around 10am and there was already a queue. We waited for around 30 minutes to get in. It seems that if you prefer to sit outdoors, then you would get a table quickly.. The food is great here, service is fast, and the servers are friendly. We ate alot here.

Beautiful cafe in the heart of Vienna. Easy to arrive there with Public Transportation. Nice and tasty breakfast. Highly recommend to make an early reservation to avoid queue. After 16:00 they have live piano. Breakfast is served until 11:30 on weekdays and 13:00 on weekends at the moment. Make sure search it before you go.

Over coffee, cake and the odd cigar, some of the greatest poets, philosophers and - it has to be said storytellers the world has ever seen, got together in Vienna's most attractive coffeehouse. Our Bengali new year (নববর্ষ) was well-spent. It is truly said: “there are cafes, and then there is Café Central!” Highly recommended in this iconic and historic cafe once you’re in the Austrian capital; advance booking is advisable if you don’t want to wait in the queue in front of the cafe.

A very famous cafe. Normally you will have to wait outside for at least a couple of minutes or maybe even half an hour. The place itself is impressive and the staff is very efficient in service. You can eat lunch there - they have local shniztel and hot dogs etc., but it seems that most of the visitors come for a coffee and a cake. The cakes look great but the taste is not something out of the ordinary, it is not too sweet which is a good thing in my taste, but there was nothing special. In total it is worth a one-time visit to the place, just because it's a very famous cafe...

Came here on a Sunday morning for some cake and coffee and really enjoyed it. Beautiful room with very delicious pastry. We arrive around 9.45am on Sunday morning and we were after 5,6people in the queue when the cafe opened at 10am. So when we entered, they gave us a nice table next to the window, close to the entrance, we had really beautiful morning light to enjoy our coffee 😊

What an amazing Palace of a coffee shop! The interior is so regal and it really does feel like you’re sitting in the same coffee shop that Sigmund Freud and other famous folks have sipped on a cup of Joe and have had a dessert. I ordered the cafe molange with a coconut breeze dessert. My wife ordered the Apple strudel. Everything was very good but the atmosphere is what sets it apart from other coffee shops.

We have waited queue around 1 hr under snow fall. If you want to visit here because of good taste, I can clearly say that it does not worth it. However the atmosphere is very nice. If you enjoy to have your meal in a nice place, go queue. Would i visit there again? No. But it was a good experience. Do not expect amazing taste just vibe.

We didn't reserve a table but we went there early. As soon as we got there they helped us find a table. The pastries were one of the best I've ever tried. The coffee was ok. The quality of breads and pastries are top notch. In my opinion it's a must try when you visit Vienna.

Went there in 2019. The best Breakfast experience we’ve had. It’s very basic but the cakes are amazing and the most stunning thing there is obviously the ambiance. It’s totally worth it!! Come early or make a reservation to have a seat.

We went 5-10 min before they opened. Even though the queue was super long, the waiting time was short. The service is amazing and very very efficient and quick! We were very surprised by that. Very nice stuff. Our favourite dish the strudel with cheese, so so good! Very cute and unique place to have coffee or tea.

It is a must to eat something there when staying in Vienna. I was there with my friend for a launch and I took the Wiener goulash and it it was a haven in the mouth. Then the Sachertorte as the dessert with the Ice Coffee was a good finish of the meal. And the ambience of the restaurant is superb.

Beautiful restaurant and tasty dishes. I liked the boiled beef which had surprising complexity. We also tried the goulash main which was very hearty and the torn cake dessert was enough to share!

The best place to enjoy a dessert accompanied by a good Melange coffee. The place is a tradition in Vienna with its architecture and delicious meals, but it's really worth it to taste the sweets that are wonderful.

We visited on a Sunday and had to wait a few minutes outside before entering. The interior of the cafe is wonderfully artistic. It takes time to get served, they have a small variety of cakes to choose from including the famous Austrian Sachertorte. I didn't particularly like it but it was an interesting experience to try it. Their croissants however were one of the best I tried. I also had hot chocolate which was delicious. Toilets were clean and the staff are very friendly. If you're in Vienna, make sure to visit this cafe at least once, you will not regret it.

A wonderful atmosphere, well-maintained, and excellent service! I've dined here twice – once for breakfast and later for lunch. For breakfast, I enjoyed the ham and pumpkinseed oil omelet, though it was slightly overcooked. However, the brioche was a delightful surprise. For lunch, I started with Viennese sausages, served with a hand-rolled bread that was quite delightful. The main course was cooked meat with spinach cream, hashed potatoes, and carrots. Despite its appearance, it tasted remarkably good. To top it off, I indulged in a hazelnut cake for dessert – a perfect ending! One more shout out for the excellent service! I highly recommend this place!

The perfect cafe i have visited. The food was great. But i have to talk about the incredible service. The service was VERY Good. And the atmosphere was nice. I can’t get over how nice and gentle the waiter was. He always had a smile on his face, I’ve seen this even when talking to other people. Whenever we needed something we always found him and did not wait a decade for him to come. If we needed something he would happily take any order. This waiter was the best waiter I’ve seen in my whole life. The atmosphere is nice as well, the design of the cafe is just beautiful. Thank you central cafe! (Sorry, the food in the pictures were a bit eaten😅 forgot to take pictures at first)

Try the Amadeus specialty coffee - I can’t get over how creamy and boozy and comforting it is 💛. The pastries were good but not worth the hype, but the coffee, the coffee was elite 💯 A pity we didn’t get to try the full menu when we were here! They were preparing for renovation so the full menu wasn’t available.

There is a big problem in the cups and majority of the dessert section, they all smell eggs. The service is very good, staff are very friendly and their faces are always smiling for all the guests. The ambience and the place is memorable but they really need to look after this problem.

It is worth the hype! So there is almost always a line to wait in to get in, but it does usually go pretty quick and it is actually worth it, which I was dubious about. The place is lovely inside, the service is good and the food is delicious, especially the sandwich (in the photos). I also had a slice of cake to take away which was amazing! I would highly recommend and definitely go back!

Very nice cafe where you can enjoy anything you order. Of course the price is not cheap, and you might have to queue to get in, but in my opinion, it was worth it. The place is very well kept and the atmosphere is very authentic. The service is fast and attentive, and all the sweets are delicious. I was struck by a chocolate dessert that appeared in the reviews and what a delicacy!

We queued for 30 mins or so. It was packed with tourists so it was overly busy. There was couple who cut the line went straight in front. We were telling the host they cut the line, they didn’t do anything. I’d recommend to make a reservation. I ordered a recommended cake by our server and Wiener Melange. The cake was tasty but didn’t really standout. The coffee I had was okay. For their respective prices, expensive for the quality delivered. To be in one of the oldest cafes in Vienna is great but I don’t think I’ll be back here for their cake and coffee.

A real treat! Beautiful sweet treats in a lovely setting. So many delicious cakes to try it makes you want to return again and again. Excellent coffee and other beverages. We had to queue but it was well worth waiting for. The service was impeccable and there was a live piano player to add that extra sophistication.

Beautiful cafe with amazing interior, good place with good atmosphere, there was also a pianist playing while we were there. Cakes are good, apple strudel was alright maybe cause I’m not a big fan of apple strudels. The queue outside is quite insane, we waited for 1h to get in and this cafe is huge. The queue was still going strong even after we left. Nothing mind blowing about the food, but it’s a good place to chill and relax.

This is a very popular place in Vienna and there is always a huge line outside the door. But we called a couple of days in advance and made a reservation without any problems. It was very satisfying just go in without having to wait. The service was amazing (thank you Hr. Helmut) - fast, funny and helpful. And the food is an experience - everything is so delicious and coffee is fantastic! If you want to suprize someone for their birthday or just treat yourself with something nice, this is definitely a wonderful place. Worth every Euro!

Navigating an hour-long queue makes evaluating a restaurant challenging, but Central Café managed to leave a lasting impression. Amidst the wait, the excellence of their coffee and desserts shone through. Describing the desserts feels like embarking on a journey—especially the magical Apple Strudel, a contender for the best in Vienna. Despite the initial hurdle, the culinary delights offered a sweet reward, making the experience worth the wait

Yes, it's worth the wait (30-40 mins). A fabulous restaurant experience. My wife and I went for lunch in March. The queue was about 20-30m long and it took half an hour for us to reach the reception. The service was amazing, the waiter spoke very good English and the food arrived unbelievably quickly. Our food was delicious. My only comment is that my goulash was lukewarm at best. The one thing that did surprise me, was the price - very reasonable! I hope you liked my review and go to Café Central.

There's usually a queue here, but it goes quickly. The building is beautiful - both outside and inside, and because of that it's deifnitly worth visiting! The small cakes look like small pieces of art, and taste the same way. The breakfast was tasty, but it did look pretty old-fashioned (all those pieces of vegetables laying around as a decoration). There are some tables in front of the door, but I would for sure recommend sitting inside; it does bring you back in time. The only sad thing I remember from my first visit (although understandable), "two people - two orders". But the little cakes taste even better eaten in front of another magnificent building ;)

Upscale place with great cakes. The ambiance is great with wonderful service. The food is delicious. There is one vegan and one vegetarian option. Though there is not much of a choice for vegetarians and vegans, the only available dish tastes great. The primary magnet of the place are the cakes. They taste delicious. Although I should warn you that the portion sizes are big for one person, unless of course, the cake itself is your meal ;-) Worth visiting while you are at Vienna

It’s a step back in time with the beautiful interior and the knowledge of famous people such as Sigmund Freud who frequently visited this cafe. There are a nice selection of cakes in the display cabinet which are quite reasonably priced too (around €4,90 each). The staff are friendly and the service is quick. We ordered two hot drinks and a selection of 4 different cakes. We were lucky enough to walk straight in without a reservation, but upon leaving we saw a long line of people queuing. So I would recommend making an online reservation in advance. Would love to come back here again in the future.

Cafe Central is located in the heart of Vienna and has a long and storied history. I found out about it by looking through some reviews and we decided to give it a try as we found ourselves nearby while shopping. We arrived mid-afternoon and there was a line of about 10 groups waiting to get in. I imagine it can be a significant wait if you arrive during more popular times and there isn't anywhere to really shelter if the weather is poor, so keep that in mind. The line did move fairly quickly so our wait was about 15-20 minutes. The interior is beautiful and while the menu isn't extensive, they have a nice selection of desserts, coffees, and food. We opted to try the Viennese soup, a sandwich, a couple of desserts (including their signature chocolate cake), and some coffee and latte. The service was very friendly and prompt, and every seat was filled with people. The soup was lukewarm and the sandwich was OK, but both were filling and not bad. Both desserts were delicious but the mango/coconut was a little better than the chocolate in our opinion. Everything looked great when it came out. Overall the Cafe had decent food, a great ambiance, and good service. I wouldn't make any special effort to return however but it was nice to have stopped by.

Café Central in Vienna, Austria, is a must-visit. Its rich history, captivating stories, and exquisite interior contribute to the cafe's allure. Café Central offers a selection of both typical meals, cakes and a display section for off-the-menu sweet treats. The taste is good and the price is fine for a date. I recommend trying the vanilla nut cake which looks like a Mangosteen - it's soft, sweet but the nuts embedded in crunchy chocolate and topping of soft vanilla mousse give it something special. The waiting time to be seated in one large, slightly cramped room, was about 30 minutes.

A famous cafe with lines of tourists at the entrance. We waited 15 min. The service was slow as staff were overwhelmed with crowds. The place is very nice. We ordered salads, coffee and the ubiquitous Wiener schnitzel. Coffee tasted like coffee from fast food chains. The schnitzel was below average and the apple strudel was mediocre. Unfortunately these places crowded with tourists have no incentive to excel since they are making money on mediocre food. When you factor in the wait at the door and the prices, I’m being generous with 2 stars

Our Cafe Central experience was superb. The staff were curtious and attentive, helping people who couldn't understand menus or needing to cater to fussy children. The coffee, cakes, hot chocolate were all scrumptious and worth every cent we paid. You could feel the history in the atmosphere of the cafe. A must for your bucket list.

We visited the Cafe Central in Vienna during our vacation, and I have to say it's a must-visit spot. Even though there was a long line outside, it moved quickly, and the wait was totally worth it. The service was great; our server was quick and friendly. Plus, there was a pianist playing some lovely tunes, which added to the nice atmosphere.

Heard lots of positive reviews about this place , saw many beautiful videos and decided to visit this famous cafe in the center of Vienna. Yes, the interior is luxurious and elegant , the service is great, but we ordered two desserts ( one of them was famous strudel) and we didn’t like them at all! Even a little bit of disappointment, because our expectations didn’t met the reality. As for desserts totally don’t recommend this place. But the atmosphere is great.

We had a reservation but we had to wait for quite a while! I thought it will be more posh place. Unfortunately, it was so busy that the staff did not have the time to make us feel comfortable and enjoy our dinner, even if our waiter was trying too hard. They were serving fast and I felt that they wanted to get rid of us because they needed the table for the next customers. The food and the desserts were ok but to be honest I had much better food in cheaper places. Defo overpriced. It was also very noisy! I don’t know! Too crowded… too stressed staff, everything was making me feel uncomfortable. Not a great experience… sorry!

Great service. Our server was really friendly. The food I've had better variants of all the mains we tried. But overall combined with the service it was a very pleasant dining experience. Reservations are definitely recommended.

Normal taste, normal service, normal product. After tipping the waiter who served me, I even didn't get a goodbye when I left passing by him, I thought he changed his attitude. Obviously I didn't get what I paid for.

Food was incredible and staff was very pleasant. Vienna is known for their coffee and this restaurant perfectly illustrates why. The espresso was dark with nice subtle hints of chocolate. The desserts were also very good and very well presented. This restaurant made my trip to Vienna 10 times better. I highly recommend it.

It is a bit more expensive but definitely worth it. The Kaiserschmarn and the sacher cake are very delicious and I whould definitely recommend checking it out. (you might have to wait in line for a bit but not to long from my experience)

Nice architecture, good menu, live piano music, and tasty cakes! When we were there, we even got a voucher, which is located on your bill. With that voucher you can "buy" a piece of cake for take away. The voucher makes your cake basically for free, depending on how much you consumed.

Nice place for sweets. But the waiting queue is very long. So if you don’t have to wait long, it’s worth to wait

The coffee house looks great. The architecture is amazing and they have a bit of info on some historical figures who visited the café. We had the breakfast which was alright. The bread I ordered extra was not too good and had some big air holes. Also the hot chocolate we received was not good, especially for the price. Nonetheless the staff was trained well. Overall, a nice experience, a bit on the expensive side but doable.

Undoubtedly one of the best cafes in Vienna. 1900s authentic atmosphere, tppped with the ultimate coffee and cake experience. That is, of course, for a quick visit, but an extended stay will bring you great joy with the tasty typical Austrian cuisine. A must go!

Waited 40 minutes to be seated but totally worth it! Best experience in Vienna!♥️ This is an Vienese authentic cafe - rarely found nowadays. Everything is perfect - the atmosphere, the service, the desserts, the coffee. I tried the apple strudel and it was very delicious!?

The location itself of course is the main reason to come here. It really is beautiful, even a little more so than expected. Staff is very kind. Go in the early evening when there's less of a cue. I wouldn't want to cue up to have coffee here. Food is relatively unexciting. And by that I mean, good. Just not better than other Viennese Kaffehäuser. All in all, without the wait, very much worth it.

The apple strudel and the Vienesse Melange were good however I would say the place is slightly overrated and overpriced . A must do? Perhaps. Though you may be able to find a more affordable cafe.

Service in Ordnung. Eine Flasche stilles Wasser 6,80€ ist eine Frechheit.

Very nice coffee and good breakfasts. A bit pricy but it's understandable due to the history of the cafe. I wish they had some explanation about the place in the menu or somewhere inside so that tourists can know more about it.

You have to visit here to experience an old Viennese cafe. The food is very mediocre and the drinks are also not amazing. Very expensive! The scrambled egg reminded me of the one at a bed&breakfast buffet.

This is one of the finest and most famous cafés in Vienna. You will appreciate the service, the ambiance, the attention to details. I was blown away by the patisserie and the traditional coffee options. Yes, it is a little pricey, but you will want to pay for the product they offer you. I specifically loved the fact, that they give you a discount ( approximately 10 percent of your bill), when you buy patisserie to go, after you have payed your bill. Lovely idea - and a charming way to keep indulging! My friend and I shared four cakes among each other and took another four because we simply wanted to try everything. It was too tempting. They have classic dessert, limited editions and specials that change seasonally. So, I clearly recommend. Yes, you have to wait for a table and yes the queue is long. However, it is worth it or you call ahead and take a reservation. We loved it.

Visited this restaurant in the winter last year and it's a must visit. The location is great, right in the heart of Vienna. You are welcomed in and as soon as you walk in your breath is taken away from the beautiful atmosphere (live piano paying) and the amazing architectural structure inside. The fine detail of the phone is 10/10. Please go and visit this very famous place.

I was here on two occasions. And both where excellent. I had breakfast (Kaisersmarren) and it was a EXCELLENT!! . The service is formal and very friendly. The other occasion was to have a drink before dinner , we enjoyed a beer and some live piano music. This is also a must see in Vienna.

Perfect experience of a Viennese cafe: very tasty, grand atmosphere, quick and caring service. I booked a table, with a special request (a candle in a cake, for my mom's birthday) - was not disappointed: I didn't have to remind guys about that, it was all done as a surprise. Good food, we tried catfish and ... Vienna Schnitzel, house wine was delicious. If you're looking for some genuine Vienna cafe experience - don't waste ur time elsewhere, as Cafe Central is the ultimate example of this!

Iconic, great place with great food. Their vegan menu could be bigger, but vegans won’t be disappointed to find modern dishes in this classic cafe. So good I visited in two occasions.

Everything is tasty but we had a small table for all our dishes. It is not restaurant for romantic date, there are a lot of people. But interior decoration at the highest level. Except for the toilet. It seems to me a little messy. There was no hot water in one of the taps. Staff - 5 stars Food - 5 stars Interior - 5 stars

This cafe has a very nice ambiance with a pianist plays in the back ground, beautiful room. I and my friend got the warm desserts - warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and pancakes with plum sauce. They were really nice. It was a nice experience. The queue was long so I highly recommend booking a place in advance. We had to wait 45 minutes but it was worthwhile.

  • 4/5 Jamie R. 2 years ago on Google
Great Service but very touristy! Book a table and skip the long queue waiting to come in for the Instagram shots! Dinner service (until 20:30) offers a small menu of traditional dishes including Goulash and Dumplings, which were delicious. There aren't too may veggie options so you will be limited on choice here. The cakes are all set out for you to see at the front. The service here is charming and very attentive. The prices are higher than less famous locations but it was still worth it!

A must visit in Vienna! Located in the city center, the building and interior is very beautiful with the vintage vibe. Various dishes from traditional Viennese cuisine to pastries to choose from, and the staffs are all very friendly. I went there on a Tuesday morning 8:00 and was very empty, only after 9:00 people started to come in, but I still recommend to make a reservation beforehand.

Outstanding! My wife and I went on a Monday night. We just waited 2 minutes and were seated. I had the original beer and wife had the wine. Our server was great, quick, and even started hosting for a few guests. We ordered the schnitzel and it was fantastic. For dessert, we had the apple strudel. Quite marvelous time and atmosphere.

Cafe Central is a grand Venetian Cafe. We got there early and were were no queues. We had two excellent hot chocolates and shared a very light hazelnut chocolate cakes between two. The cafe has a wonderful atmosphere and you could not fault the friendly and efficient service. The Cafe was luxurious and spacious. Best top is to either booking in advance or come early and have breakfast.

The rooms was just beautiful. The experience is good and enjoyable. The cakes were not the best we had in Vienna. Actually a bit on the lower end. Overall a good experience and the staff made you feel welcomed. It is hard to put out a good product when you are serving so many people a day. Most of the desserts seemed just mass produced.

  • 5/5 Aidan R. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful interior. Fair prices for Vienna. I recommend the plum pancake bites over the apple strudel. There is better Apple strudel in Vienna. Overall a lovely experience. We came around 11 am and received a table within 20 minutes.

  • 4/5 Biao L. 5 months ago on Google
5 stars for fast and attentive service 4 stars for the price/quality of the food. I got the Apple strudel and a truffle chocolate cake. The strudel was slightly cold and not good for what they're charging (8 Euros). Coffee was okay, nothing special. You pay the expensive price for the ambiance/location. If you come here, I would stick to the cakes as that is what they're known for!

The atmosphere is great and we enjoyed our breakfast. Staff are nice but the service could be better. It is a well known place in Vienna and always crowded and that is when it makes the difference between a great place and a good one! There ara almost always a queue outside and the waiting time depends on how many people you are with, which day is it and when. Royal breakfast is recommended.

  • 5/5 Nihat K. 4 months ago on Google
Number one cafe in Vienna, I went at 8 am when opened, and hardly found a table, there was a queue outside starting from 8.30 am. Enjoyed the Wiener breakfast and coffee Maria Theresa, but did not enjoy the coffee. Atmosphere is fantastic although it is the main touristic attraction

Had a long queue, so we thought it’ll be good. But in truth the food was meh. You could get more from other cafes with the same price. The atmosphere was lovely, and the live piano performance started when we were about to leave. It was nice. But I wouldn’t go back the next time I’m in Vienna. Their service was super super slow after they sat you down at your table. We weren’t happy with their service and the average quality, so we didn’t give tips when we were paying for the bill, I smiled gently to the staff telling them sorry but no we’re not tipping him. And he responded to me in a straight face “why are you smiling it is not funny” and told us other people always give them tips, so we should give too. So yeah, not a happy experience here.
