Anyone interested in history of Globes and see some cool globes this is your opportunity. Also in collection smallest globe the size 2,3 cm - another one at 4 cm and even huge ones at 1+m . I also loved the globes on planets and moon .

Beautiful and educational collection of terrestrial and celestial globes from the past few centuries. €5 entry which also includes the Esperanto museum (which is more of a long hallway).

A Gemstone Glimpse into History: The Globe Museum Nestled away like a secret treasure, the Globe Museum is a delightful surprise for anyone seeking a dose of history in a bite-sized adventure. Perfect for a breezy afternoon or a spontaneous detour, this museum packs a punch despite its compact size. From the moment you step through the threshold, you're transported to a bygone era. The exhibits whisper tales of the past, each artifact carefully curated to tell a story. Whether you're captivated by ancient maps showcasing fantastical sea creatures or awestruck by intricate globes charting long-forgotten constellations, the museum ignites your imagination and curiosity. The exhibits are presented with a delightful balance of informativeness and accessibility. Concise descriptions and interactive displays keep even the most history-averse visitor engaged. I particularly enjoyed the Lunar Globes, which brought history to life in a vivid and immersive way. The museum's size is its secret weapon. You won't get museum fatigue here; instead, you'll leave feeling pleasantly satiated and eager to learn more. It's the perfect antidote to information overload, leaving you with just enough to ponder and inspire further exploration. In conclusion, the Globe Museum is a hidden gem for anyone seeking a enriching and delightful escape. It's a testament to the power of curating history in a way that sparks curiosity and ignites the imagination. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for a unique and enriching experience, be sure to add this little treasure to your itinerary. You won't regret it!

The globe museum is awesome. They have an amazing collection of globes going back hundreds of years and all types of cool models. Not only is the museum cool but the building it's self is really nice. It's not super big and can be done in less then an hour. Would definitely go back.

Recommended for people who appreciate maps and cartography. The exhibition contains a significant collection of globes, allowing us to see the progress of knowledge through the last few hundred years. Also contains globes of other planets and cool astronomy instruments. I paid EUR5.00 for entry, which also allows you to access the Esperanto Exhibition.

This place was super fascinating all of the different gloves from the 15 century all the way to modern. If you like maps or globes. This is a fun way to spend 30 minutes to an hour just reading the history of globe making, and spending time looking at all the different types, including astrological and planet globes

🌎🌕Globes for navigation instructions, globes as scientific instruments, globes as teaching aids and demonstration devices, globes in iconography and as symbols, globes in everyday life. Describing both concepts and processes, the Globe Museum will create you relevant experiences! 🌍🌘 Collecting terrestrial and celestyal globes, the museum is the largest collection of globes and globe-related instruments worldwide that is open to the general public. Enjoy a great journey by travelling around the globes! 🌔🌍

It is an interesting place to visit. The museum is situated in the very heart of Vienna. Here you could see ancient globes of the Earth of various size. The collection includes also astronomical globes of the sky, all globes are hand made by ancient masters. The staff is nice and welcoming. They are ready to give explanations or show the way to find some globes of their expositions of your particular interest. However, at the moment of our visit, nearly 90% of the geographical maps were fixed in the way that you could see only America. Personally, I wanted to see Tartaria in old maps and ancient countries which existed once on Eurasian continent and I felt a little disappointed. I would like to recommend to fix various globes in the way that visitors from different countries could have the chance to find at least their continents on the geographical globes (Australia, Africa, Europe&Asia, North & South Americas). Otherwise, it seems that the whole museum was created only to satisfy tourists from Us. My opinion is that visitors want to see WHAT is shown on the ancient globe, not just looking from far on the size of the globe. Taking this into account, printed MAPs, which demonstrate the content of each globe, and texts with information about the globe, should be more available for watching and reading it, but they are mostly fixed to the walls behind the globes, which are demonstrated behind the protective glass. Thus, you could hardly see what is depicted on the globe. It is a pity also that there was not a museum shop. It would be good to have a chance to buy copies/reproductions of ancient maps or photos of globes. Anyway, it was a nice experience during our wonderful trip in Vienna. Moreover, if you are interested in globes, you could find a couple, very large ones, in the National library, the section with ancient books, open for public. It is very authentic place to visit.

If you do like geography or astronomy you should not miss this place. Here is an impressive collection of different sizes globes representing world maps, stars, zodiac signs, measurement instruments and much more. The only museum of its kind in the world.

I am a Geographer by education. My first book was an atlas... so finding this Museum of Globes was a real treat. What a great collection of globes going back some 500 years! All kinds of globes, even celestial and planetary ones. There are only a handful of rooms but the globes are packed in and there are also interactive displays. A side benefit if you're in the museum frame of mind is that the Esperanto Museum is in the same building. Don't miss this when in Vienna!

It's a really nice museum. Such a wonderful concept to collect globes from throughout history and from all over the world. However, not much information is available in English. The globes aren't properly visible from behind the glass cases as well. I understand that they need to be protected but a 360 degree view would have been nice. The museum has no proper theme. The globes are just kept in glass cases without a coherent narrative. The tickets however are quite cheap and include access to the Esperanto museum as well.

HISTORY VIA CARTOGRAPHY As someone that enjoys looking at old maps, this was a gold mine for me. For the low low price of €4, I got admission to this gem and the Esperanto Museum (in the same building). Highly recommend checking this small, 3-room museum out!

This museum has a rich collection of globes from the ancient times to the recent days. You’d be amazed how our ancestors could make maps of the earth and measure distances from different locations on Earth and even our solar system. If you’re keen to learn more about cartography and topography as well as astronomy, i am pretty this museum would offer you a great head start

(Last visit: Aug 2022) It's the larger expo of the place, pertaining to the history and interests behind globe manufacturing, their industrialization and their historical and political influence. Only peeking, no touching except for interactive experiences. Don't be shy, you'll learn a few things!

Wonderful Globe Museum 🌎! Impressions are simply unforgettable! This is the place where I experienced all the magnificent astronomy. The variety of displays, details and interactive moments all make this museum truly exceptional. This museum is definitely on my list of the top 5 museums in Vienna! 🌟 He left an indelible impression in my heart and deep admiration for those who are engaged in scientific discoveries. Bravo for this wonderful cultural experience! 🎉

This is a cool little museum. You wouldn’t want a museum just focused on globes to be any bigger than this really. But it is a very fun little visit to make. For me, less about the globes and who and why they were made, more just interesting to see how our reality of the world evolved over time with our ever growing exploration and self awareness as a human race.

  • 3/5 S. ES (. 6 months ago on Google • 36 reviews
Good content, poor display. The globes should be in the middle of the room so you can walk around and see all sides, rather than being along the walls where only one side can be seen. The whole point is they're 3D globes, not 2D maps! Too many old globes can only be seen on the pacific ocean side when it was wholly unknown at the time so there's nothing to see.

  • 5/5 Kris C. 4 years ago on Google
Absolutely amazing museum for anyone, especially those interested in history, geography, or even psychology. One of my favorite exhibits was the touchscreen exhibit with a modern map overlaid on an old globe, which lets you compare how people thought continents were shaped vs how we now know they are actually shaped. I also really liked the old globes with exaggerated terrain! Youth under 19 are free, adults are €5, and the ticket includes admission to the Esperanto museum, which is also really interesting!

(Translated by Google) We were very enthusiastic about the collection. On the one hand it describes how globes were made and on the other hand it is fascinating how detailed the globes were in earlier times. The globe that was made before the discovery of America is also very interesting (the proportions as one imagined the continents were exciting). Absolute recommendation on my part. Absolute Empfehlung meinerseits.

(Translated by Google) Absolutely worth seeing and diverse collection, and also impressive exhibition rooms. Invites you to linger and enjoy. It wasn't very busy at the moment, so you could look at the exhibits there in peace. However, you can do without a visit to the Papyrus Museum, which is included in the ticket price. The Esperanto Museum, which is also included, is in the same building, but not a must see either (the spatial size is also directly proportional to the distribution of Esperanto). But even for the Globe Museum alone, the ticket price is very cheap anyway, so no problem if you only visit 1/3.

Hello my fellow globis. Nah just kidding. I don't really have anything to do with globes. To be fair, I just wanted to see it and that's it. And it was actually more awesome than I thought. There are so many different globes you can't imagine how big some of them are. Fun for young and old, big and small, male and female. And there is also a second museum bellow it, which is actually quite interesting. It's about the well known language Esperanto, which was used (or at least people tried to use it) as an global language. It was actually quite helpful in times of the Austria Hungarian monarchy.

One of the specialty museums which can be visited as part of the Austrian National Museum is the Globe Museum, found at Palais Mollard, near the Imperial palace. This is a nice speciality museum, particularly for those who enjoy old world and astronomy globes The Globe Museum, has over 240 different globes on display of various shapes, sizes and ages. We very much enjoyed many of the globes on display here. We probably enjoyed Vincenzo Coronelli's terrestrial and celestrial globe (1693) the most but there were many others of interest and intrigue found at the Globe Museum. We also enjoyed the computers, only two unfortunately, set up with lots of interesting trivia and facts about the history of globe-making. Overall, we found the Globe Museum to be a good museum to visit if you have any interest in such matters, and it will be a place very much enjoyed by connoisseurs of this hobby. We spent around 45 minutes in the museum but it could easily be visited in less time for those in a hurry. At the same location you can visit the Papyrus Museum and the Esperanto Museum buying a combo ticket. This is a good way to save a bit of money if you are interested in visiting more than one of these particular small museums.

Even as someone who has never really thought about globes, this museum was very cool. All the globes are really fun to look at on their own, and the information you can read about them really adds to the experience of seeing them. There were some cool technological experiences, like a 3d model of an old globe you could turn and zoom into with a big touch screen. For the €5 admission (which includes two other museums too) it's well worth it to go if you have free time in Vienna. Not huge, but with the other two museums there is plenty to see.
