I'm not a big fan of history, yeah yeah. But this museum is really amazing. Everybody can find something interesting. It's inexpensive too. It was quiet and not crowded at all. Unbelievable lots of statues in imperial architecture. There's a little cafe inside, where you can have a drink or some food. Bookstore too.

The Museum of Military History located at Arsenal 1, 1030 Wien, Austria is an excellent History Museum on the various period battles that have taken place in Vienna and the Austrian Empire and before. Manu exhibits from Guns, Swords, Cannons, Military Clothing, and flags. Much art work and the place is gorgeously designed architecturally speaking. Lots of WWI, WWII and long before are exhibits here.

Free parking and a reasonable price to enter. A fascinating insight to the military history of Austria. We spent several hours looking around the exhibits and building. I thoroughly enjoyed learning of their early forces and campaigns.

Fantastic military museum. We used the U-ban to get here, it was about a 10-15 minute walk from the station. The price of admission was a very reasonable 7 euros per adult. The building itself is stunning and the hall of generals when you first walk in is very interesting. They have a little cafe/bookshop and very clean bathrooms. The displays are incredible with an interesting mix of artwork. The highlight is the car Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in. The world war displays were well done. My husband loved the early weapons upstairs.

I was impressed by the quality of the materials present in the museum and also by the architecture itself. From the Middle Ages to the Second World War, the setting is really well done and arouses the right amount of curiosity. The finds are numerous and well preserved, so it is a pleasure for enthusiasts to visit this place!🙌

vast collection of military history ranging from the sixteenth century until WWII. the building is gorgeous, the exhibits in chronological order, the admission fee fair (€8 and free for everyone underage) and the exhibition information is available in multiple languages. it is a military museum, so I wouldn't consider it appropriate to bring your toddlers, but your school kids will have lots to look at. the museum could use some digital updates for a more interactive exhibition of the twenty-first century and some newer exhibits in general, but it's two hours well spent and sheds light on the world of war in an accurate historic setting without any glorification.

Can't believe this place was not full. Excellent exhibits. Wish it would have more audio-visual reenactment on screen. Etc video and how equipment was used. Need to look at media city war museum manchester. The marble and weapons on show are the business of war. Ferdinands car, the beginning of a world war is truly amazing. You can rearly see something so involved. Don't get to close the alarm goes off. Was really interested in the Austrian Navy. Really amazing museum looks like the government should be spending a bit on this. And advertising every place. If it was in the uk. Bit surprised Russia did not put an offer in for the tanks 🙄

This place is amazing for every history nerd. With every step the museum just keep giving and giving, and it doesn't stop. Every room is well organized and you can find the description in many languages at the entrance. You can easily spend the whole day there if your legs can handle it. Somehow I missed naval and WWII sections, which can be better marked, so I'll have to return, what I'll do gladly. Tank hall was an amazing addition to my visit . All things considered, I had had a superb experience there.

One of the best military museums in the world. We can not recommend it enough. Stunning displays good signage and nice lighting. The WW1 exhibit was by far the best featuring the car the assassination of arch Duke Ferdinand and his wife even displaying the couch he passed on. FYI parking is right next to the main entrance by the cannons.

Fantastic galleries and exhibitions. Set in a beautiful building, this museum was inexpensive and well worth the trip (worth paying the additional €2 to take photos.) The Hall of Heroes is architecturally stunning. The history was well presented with a an interested audio guide App. When visiting December 2018 the WW1 Exhibition felt new and really well presented. Would recommend. Cafe on site too.

(Translated by Google) Anyone who claims guns do not belong on display is wrong in my opinion. The collection is superb and informative beyond measure. The visit with a six-year-old child also showed what the museum can do and how important it is to deal with people's armed conflicts. The building alone is also worth a visit!

A broad collection of exhibits of Austrian military history in a quite outstanding building. The artistry in the central hall and the scale if some of the paintings is also truly grand. Unfortunately, a number of the associated collections were temporarily closed during my visit, so was not able to take them in. Note also a lack of bathrooms in the facility, with even those on the ground floor (which people are directed to in the absence of any on the upper floor) hardly serviceable.

My wife and I had a great time in this museum which is a great place to lose yourself back in time. There is a vast amount of military history dating back as from the 1800s to beyond WWII. You will need a minimum of 3 hours to view this marble which is highly recommended.

The museum hosts large collections of guns, rifles, weapons, military vehicles, clothes and paintings related to Austrian wars in the last three centuries. I especially liked the exhibitions about the First World War. The museum hosts the clothes of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was murdered and the car in which he was shot in Sarajevo, the incident that started one of the deadliest war in the history of humankind. There are also remainings and artifacts from the historical Turkish-Austrian wars. I suggest you to visit on the first Sunday of each month as there is a free visiting hours.

For fans of Military history, this is an absolute must, and all housed in a beautiful Ottoman inspired Venetian building! Lots of unique and rare items here, including the jacket and car Archduke F was in when he was shot (although being Austria they fail to take responsibility for the ensuing conflict...), an amazing set of 16th to 20th C maps, paintings and artillery; including the oldest guns and mortars; and a huge WW1 Howitzer. The WW2 section however is disappointingly short, but still has some very fine pieces on display, and some very rare artwork too. Sadly the Tank hall was closed when I visited, although there are some that you don't want to miss outside behind the cafe. Allow 2 hours minimum to see it all, multi language audio guides also available.

Covering a wide range of conflicts from Austrian History, with particular emphasis on the Thirty Years War as well as both World Wars, the museum does an excellent job of exploring this aspect of Austrian history. While some exhibits do not include English translation, the museum's app provided plenty of insight in sections where translation was lacking. In addition, the building itself is fantastic. Beautifully ornate, and extremely well-maintained. Worth visiting even if you don't have any particular interest in military history.

Outstanding showcase of Austrian military history. The building interior is grand, opulent and mesmerising with detailed fixtures, sculptures and beautifully illustrated walls and ceilings. There is a coffee and gift shop at ground level, toilets, lifts and a tank display in the rear garden. The museum is open to the public free of charge on Sunday with a donation box near the entry. Recommend a visit.

An awesome museum. The museum contains a huge and impressive collection. It is separated into different time periods. Each section of the museum was well thought out and explained the history in a clear way as you walked through. The World War One exhibition was very well done, as it starts with the car and uniform of Franz Ferdinand, and then takes you through the Great War chronologically. The section on the Habsburg-Ottoman wars was also very impressive. I recommend reading the yellow papers at the start of each exhibition to give some context to the items and time period. I highly recommend this museum to anyone with an interest in history. The ticket is not too expensive and you can easily walk around for the whole afternoon. The complex in which the museum is located is itself also very nice. 10/10

Unknown gem! Suitable for basic history buffs to lecturer level. At €7 entry per adult, it's great value. You can do audio tour but information handouts in a large number of languages freely available at every new section. Only small gripe is that they should tell you about not allowing even small backpacks at entrance when paying. The car that Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was in when assassinated a definite highlight!

I liked the museum. It has a lot of interesting pieces on display including the car Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in. It's very factual and lacks most of the political background why things happened but I guess that was the point to just focus on the military point of view. If you like history it's definitely worth to see.

The World War II section is closed for renovations, which was a real pity. Good range of weapons and armour from the 15th century onwards. Also good (and free) companion app, amd reasonable entrance fee. Bags need to be stored for €1 or 2, but you get the deposit back. And all housed in a impressive building.

This is a marvellous museum and although not everything is as well laid out as it could be, it is crammed full of fascinating exhibits. The building itself, inside and outside, is beautiful and you'll learn a tremendous amount about Austrian and European history with marvellous examples of relevant pieces that really bring the narrative to life in an extraordinary way. Redevelopment of some of the exhibition halls is underway so improvements are ongoing, but in any case, it is still a very interesting place to visit!

One of the most incredible museums I've ever seen! Amazing artifacts from Austrian army, from 1600 - to present time. Some incredible pieces such as iconic paintings, THE CAR OF SARAJEVO (unbelievable) or 35cm field artillery gun. Artillery is one of the forefronts, because this museum is located in old artillery barracks, also with very beautiful architecture. 6/5

Must see for anyone interested in the fascinating history of this place. I would suggest brushing up on the Austrian-Hungarian empire, WWI and WWII history before coming for maximum appreciation, though there are plenty of written brochures in multiple languages to supplement understanding of each of the sections. Unbelievable value at €7 for an adult and kids under 19 free

August 23 . The most interesting hall about WW2 is closed. As they said, for 2-3 years . Tanks hall is opened only by weekends. And I can not use the ticket bought on Friday. In general the museum is fine. 2 hours is enough time to see.

This is probably the best military history museum I've ever visited. The building is magnificent and the interiors screams old i m p erial vibes. Each area is very well kept. 1600-1800's section shows uniforms, mil awards, weapons and beautiful peintures. If you want to have goosebumps then visit the 1 w w area, from the 🔫of the heir to the end of the war in 1918, you'll walk across trenches, man sized artillery rounds, pictures and weapons. I would add some battlefield ambient sound to make it perfect. *The tank section is not always accessible*

My family and I decided to go to Military museum while we were Vianna Austria. We found it to be interesting, insightful, and educational about soldiers. (Translated by Google) Well worth seeing museum and beautiful building, both the inside and outside facade! History lovers in particular will get their money's worth here. You can see a lot of exhibits, for me it was sometimes too much, as a lot of objects are often repeated (e.g. swords), which makes the exhibition sometimes seem lengthy. The building itself is an architectural gem very little known to the general public or hoards of tourists, despite its relatively central location. The exhibits are great for anyone with an interest in history, especially the World War I and World War II sections. The museum is very Austrian-centric, and some exhibits are only explained in German language, which could be perceived as a minus by some visitors.

  • 5/5 Max M. 3 years ago on Google
Magnificent building with absolutely breathtaking interiors, sculptures and murals. Also very extensive and rich in its collection. Only the staff could be a bit more friendly, maybe that is to be connected to the fact that the museum is managed by the ministry of defense and not by the administration of austrian federal museums. Regardless, a matchless building.

The collection inside the museum is quite varied and it will take up a few hours at a leisure pace. The building itself is gorgeous and the inside feels like a palace. You can see exhibits from both World Wars as well as more medieval stuff from the sieges of Vienna by the ottomans. There's a cafe at ground floor so you can always take a break.

My only problem with this place was that the audio guide was sometimes not working, as some numbers shown around the place were simply unknown to the audio guide. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the visit, very interesting and very deep as well, especially the WW1 and WW2 sections. The museum in itself is pretty big, starting with the 14th century and ending to nowadays. If you're an army/war enthusiast, you should definitely go there, if you are not, you should avoid it as it can be very deep and depressing, that is at least how my partner felt. I particularly liked the artsy bits, the paintings, statues, on how the artists of those periods represented what they saw, felt and lived through. We did not have access to the Tanks parts, which was not a big loss. Just make sure that you are following the historical timeline, if you don't want to get mixed up.

(Translated by Google) The Museum of Military History in Vienna is a place that is well worth visiting, the prices are affordable 5 euros for students and 7 for the rest of mortals.👍 Inside you can visit the military history of Austria from the 16th to the 20th century. See quantity and variety of weapons used at different times. In addition, the facade of the building is very beautiful. I expected something more boring and ugly to look at. What a beautiful building and great selection of display items but building is worn out and needs a good scrub inside.. I am particularly interested in the Ottoman artifacts remained from 17th and 18th century.. I asked 2 people in uniforms whereabouts of those but they didn't speak English. No English Info tags either. I better come back after an intensive German course.

absolutely one of the best museums ever seen in my life. the staff is very kind, friendly and knowledgeable about even the smallest of details. The exhibition is superbly organized and, even if the collection is big but not an impressive size, after a visit you still immensely satisfied. absolutely not to be missed is the panzerhalle. A museum that anyone visiting Vienna has an obligation to consider (and is also among the cheapest).

This museum is a must see for anyone even slightly interested in military history and technique. They have an enormous collection of weapons, uniforms, verhicles, paintings and scale models covering most of European war history. Some of the iconic items are the car in which Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, a tent used by the Ottoman seige on Vienna and a huge open scale model of a battle ship.

Great that its free for anyone under 19. Me and my friends have a huge interest in military so it was a nice way to get out. Very cool things to see there. Im just very dissapointed that the tank garden is only avaliable on weekends and that the part that shows modern military was also closed off

An excellent museum outside Vienna city centre Close to Belvedere A lot to take in so plan a good bit of time World War 1&2 covered on the ground floor - so I would suggest doing them first €7 - well worth the fee

  • 4/5 Andrejs D. 2 years ago on Google
While walking thru all the history of wars you can only realize -- never, I would want never to be the part of this history. The reality sometimes will dictace the opposite. I would like to keep this only history. The presentation on this place is great, just like you dive into history itself. The ammunition, stuff and explanation of situation is presented in nice way. Highly recommended.

A museum worth a visit. It's a bit far from the center but you can take the tram or walk and pass many other touristic attractions. The building it's fantastic like a fortress and also the entrance. There you can see weaponry from different periods of Austrian history. Big cannons, armors, uniforms, the car where Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, bunkers, planes and many more.

Treat yourself a whole afternoon for the generous collection of this museum! The location is a hidden 💎, the inside and the architecture itself are very impressive! One tip: the entrance is free each First Sunday of the month! 🤩 (the regular entrance fee is only 7 euro, totally worth it!)

Great underrated war museum in Vienna. As my hotel was just nearby, I dropped a visit but it came as a good surprise. Beautiful historical building with down-to-earth display pattern but phenomenal materials from the wars. There is even a tank zone in the outside. I spent more than 2 hours and learned a great deal!

Beautiful building housing a wide variety of military equipment from the 16 century through the second world war. Any student of history is likely to enjoy the museum, and it was one of my top attractions in the whole of Vienna. Most everything is written in both German and English (although there were a few missing English labels/descriptions), and the museum has bathrooms, wifi, and luggage lockers. Expect to spend at least 2 hours enjoying the sights, although you may likely even want to stay longer.

We were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to stop in here for a quick visit. The museum is surprisingly well priced compared to other museums in Vienna, which makes it a great option if you don't have a ton of time like us. The place itself is pretty large, with military artifacts going back 500 years. I personally really liked the WW2 collection on the first floor. I do wish that they had more signage in English, as it was hard to understand what a lot of the individual items on display were. Overall, still a great place to visit for any military history buff.

This museum gives a very thorough account of Austrian military history. The main problem for the non-German speaker is that only some of the exhibits have English translations, so the only option is to download an app that contains an audio guide in different languages. Unfortunately, the app was quite difficult to use. The museum seems to be a work in progress, and with a few improvements it could become so much better.

I had an exceptional experience at the Museum of Military History, deserving of five stars. The museum's extensive coverage of World War I and its origins, along with insights into Napoleon's era and preceding years, left me thoroughly impressed. The collection was top-notch, offering a comprehensive glimpse into historical events. The section dedicated to the history of the Mariën was fascinating, though admittedly less extensive. It's worth mentioning that the Tank Halle was on my list, but unfortunately, it's only open on weekends. On a positive note, the museum offers free admission every first Sunday of the month, making it accessible to all. Highly recommended for history enthusiasts!

I liked visiting this museum. It has good ornaments and mosaics. Not to mention the exhibits and their wide variety. The halls have that atmosphere, as if one were back in those old times, which is really well-made with the ancient design all around. The only thing that I didn't like was the lighting per se: it was a little bit too dark at some places. The territory outside the museum is really vast, and you can observe many tanks and other props regarding the topic. Overall, it's a great museum to spend your time, which you will need a lot to see all the spectrum of exhibits.

  • 3/5 olen a. 8 months ago on Google
You can get a good 1.5 to 2 hour experience out of this however be aware the staff that manages the facility does not seem to like anyone, and they will close down entire sections for no posted reason as well as give private tours to other people in locked out areas. Overall decent content but bad staff. May be the normal for Europe but it's my first time.

4.5 Great display of interesting objects. Beautiful architecture of the building. Why am I subtracting half a point? (1) The commentary could take more of a point of view on the various wars and historic episodes. The museum could provide more background. Just showing the objects, their name, the year is not enough. I had hoped to learn more about war, how it changed over time, etc. (2) Some of the beautiful architecture is simply cluttered - especially the entrance hall of the field marshal hall. It is difficult to take a picture without having some sign or table or chair protruding into the frame.

  • 4/5 Yess M. 7 months ago on Google
the architecture is amazing. a change of scenery in the sense that all the painting and ceiling art work is of the war which is quite unique as it is not of God or Godnesses. they have a good collection of WW1 and medival times. unfortunately WW2 section are shut (for 2 years) due to some work being done. kinda bummed as we were most excited about that section of the history. the coolest part is that they have the car of which franz ferdinand was shot in, resulted in the start of WW1.

  • 5/5 J 7 months ago on Google
Great museum, fascinating WW1 exhibit, unfortunately some exhibits were closed and the Tank hall is only open on the first Sunday of each month. The main hall has a truly beautiful ceiling. Overall great value for money and worth the trip.

  • 4/5 Lucas S. 10 months ago on Google
Great museum in terms of number of items. The first floor is very well-presented and there are tons of captions in English. For me, the second floor is like a totally different museum. There are almost no English captions, and the captions in German are very barebones, typically only listing the name of the piece and the date it was made. Also confusing layout- the 1900 to 1918 section is the first thing you see, and you have to go upstairs to see the earlier sections. I would prefer a chronological display of items. Phenomenal number and quality of the exhibits, but I’d like to see it presented better.

  • 5/5 Mark W. 5 months ago on Google
The best Napoleonic Era collection I've seen, plus the Great War collection is fantastic. And they have the uniform that started it all, and the car.
