I have been to Modern art museums in every city I have visited that has one. In the USA and all over Europe. This one was a bit of a disappointment. Go to the Albertina for better modern art (Kandinsky, etc). The Mumok looked like a Borg ship and was confusing to figure out where to go/what was there.

Other reviewers have emphasised the mumok over the Leopold if you prefer more modern offerings. I can't comment except to say the mumok is modern art throughout. Housed in an impressive building that's 4 floors up and 4 down, the mumok broadly hosts two major artists (at August 2023) and then some general collections on its lower floors. The mumok has done a lot with what felt like less than other museums. On balance, it has filled out its big spaces well with what will take you about 2h to explore if you're taking your time, maybe 3-4 if you sit and watch all the video content. By the end of the two floors dedicated to each of the two major artists, though, I was bored and craving a bit more variety, however impressive their substantial output. On that note, mumok felt heavily reliant on video installations and painting. Other mediums were more rarely represented, although a standout was a great piece on sound. Not the most diverse museum I've visited, but not the worst value for money by any means.

Very nice museum. One of the only ones that show contemporary art in Vienna. The architecture of the building is beautiful from the outside and inside. The spaces are big and the exhibitions very interesting. There is a small cafe in the mezanino on the ground floor above the lockers. The staff is very friendly and for my surprise I saw a 1978 David Hockney artwork "hidden" in a corner...

really enjoyed the exhibits there this time! modern art isn’t always my cup of tea but i found everything there pretty interesting. also the cafe was good! don’t need tickets ahead of time, there is a student discount

The building is impressive inside and out. There are many floors of exhibits-mostly photos, installations and collages. When we visited (dec 23) the ticket was 19€ and if I may say not worthy.

Is this the best modern art museum I've been to in a global capital city? Probably not. The space is amazing, the building architecture while brutalist and imposing is significant. That, I liked. Unfortunately, I was left a little disappointed. I bought tickets just to find I had to return to get tickets for my children (no cost, I just had to get the gratis children tickets for the door person to let me in) - not sure why wasn't I told this when I bought them. Just beaurecreatic hard work. Inside the art direction was not the best. I accept that this may have been the exhibits at the time and perhaps not for me. Maybe next time (maybe). I suggest checking out online reviews of exhibits before deciding if this is a gasket for you.

The building was finished to the highest standards, so the visitors can expect extraordinary impressions. Actually, visitors can see boring exhibitions on all four upper floors (design of the cafeteria is more appealing). However, something interesting found on floors below the ground.

Nice customer service, the price of tickets is reasonable, you have to keep your belongings in small boxes. You can find a large collection distributed on several floors which you can have access using lifts. Moreover, there is a collection of explicit content so if you are visiting the museum with kids, it is advisable to be careful and read the sign that warns you before entering.

What a colossal waste of time and money. The 'art' they exhibit here is nothing short of narcolepsy inducing garbage. You will definitely hate this place, if you're not a gender-questioning marxist with daddy issues. 1 pitty star for the actually remarkable architecture, that was obviously conceived in a wet starwars dream.

I do not really like modern art, but because I had a Vienna pass I wanted to do as many museums as I could ( I did 9 total), and this one was not really on my list , but it was on my, and because I liked the architecture of the building I decided to enter this museum. It was a great experience and you do not need much time to see it.

Well designed building with different levels to make it interesting to discover the different exhibitions - it welcomes you with a very nice opening hall and museum shop. Would definitely pay a visit if your ever in Vienna.

They only had a few exhibits. Some were very weird and not exactly what I consider art but I learned a lot about Austrian art movements. Just didn’t really like looking at some of them

Big museum of modern art. Unfortunately mumok cinema wasn't available at that time. There are -4 to +4 floors of exhibit and souvenir shop. Reccomended👍

The MUMOK is a nice modern art museum. Modern art isn't my favorite but even I found a few pieces that peaked my interest. If you get there at 10 (when they open) I suggest taking the elevator straight to the 4th floor. I had the entire floor to myself for about a half hour. That's also where the big names are: Picasso, Miro, Matisse, Ertz they even have a Giacometti which was my main interest. Also make sure to ask about the museum card if you have interest in some of the other museums (Alberta, Belvedere, Natural History, KHM). They don't really advertise it but they do sell it here.

Not worth your time or money. I really love modern art and I’ve been to many other modern art museums, including the great MOMA in New York. I don’t intend to compare it, but to be honest this one isn’t a good representation of modern art, at least I want to keep thinking that way. Just insane daubs and boring photos. It’s a pity a building of this category hosts such poor and bad exhibition. :(

The building is outstanding (and hard to find) but the exhibition was not what I expected. It’s actually pretty expensive for what it has and you have to pay more to leave your bags before you going in. And there was no option to take the bag with you. I’ve seen some huge installations in Athens’ contemporary art museum that actually surprised me more. Tho I enjoyed my time with family.

I always like unconventional things, places, people, art. In Mumok, you will feel different feelings from surprise to admiration. But not indifference, that's for sure. Cabins for things free of charge, wardrobe 1 euro.

Nice building structure, was impressed by view from window. But collection is a bit strange by choice. Few objects were interesting, I made pics of them. Anyway worth to visit, 5 floors - everyone can find something for himself

The quality of your visit really depends on what exhibitions are being shown. They range from incredibly fun and cool to a little boring (maybe I just don't get it) so I'd definitely recommend that you look up the programme before you go. But otherwise it's a fun visit if you enjoy modern art.

I read very good reviews about this museum so my expectations were high. The building catches the eye immidiately. Inside is very industrial and cool. It's something personal but the exhbitions weren't very satisfying for me. Still it's a museum worth seeing.

Very nice contemporary art exhibitions & building interior and exterior are both impressive. My favourite museum in Vienna.

I liked it, Was so into it, that in 3 hours didnt visit all the floors. For ukrainians its for free. Welcome

If you spend a view days in Vienna you must go to the MuseumsQuartier and into mumok. The building itself is pure art, outside and inside. And there is always min. one exhibition you will like, trust me. Recommendation! The photo is from the exhibition Adam Pendleton.

Great exhibit of modern art with some thoroughly interesting pieces. Unfortunately two floors were closed during my visit, which made the €15 entry fee seem slightly steep. Still well worth a visit if you like modern art

Not a huge fan of modern art, but the curration was great and thoughtful. The lightning was highlighting the exhibits and generally an amazing time to pass the time. I would recommend visiting other museums, before visiting mumok in Vienna.

Its a modern museum. Guards we're nice and the building looks nice and clean. The art changes once in a while as i understand it. The art that i saw was nice I'm not an expert so idk 😂.

Stunning museum, great exhibits, and permanent collection. I would highly recommend to visit. Don’t forget to dowload their app and listen to the audioguide.

A great modern art museum - one of my favourites so far. I loved seeing many works from progressively thinking artists, processing pressing issues like gender norms, colonialism and neo-colonialism and more with their pieces. My only bit of feedback would be - please let people know upon buying their tickets to download the excellent app with audio guide, it really adds so much to the experience. I did so on my own merit, would be great if everyone got the chance to experience this. Keep up the great work!

Exterior looks great, modern, but interior is not that wow. Maybe a little bit too “modern” art for me. I would not consider a loss if I would have skipped this one

Got the audio tour guide which was very helpful. One floor was closed. The -2 floor is tasteless.

  • 3/5 mia d. 2 years ago on Google
An interesting museum with a great variety of modern art! Though a little much video art for my taste, where it was difficult to spot where in the video we were when entering the room. I have experienced a kind of counter on some video art that makes it easier to depict whether you could come back and get the full video in ten minutes or... Furthermore, I needed a little more explanation to the pictures and installations, but I may have missed some guidance somewhere. I like that there were lots of space to wander around in your own pace owning the art around you.

    Modern Art, at its best

Museum for the young and new artist. Place take a rest on the plaza or place with a new breath of ART in Vienna.

  • 5/5 Chaiyot Y. 2 years ago on Google
Another chic and stylish museum all the tourists can sit back, relax and take snapshots as much as we can 😊😁🤩

  • 2/5 Elsy T. 2 years ago on Google
The ground floors show very few interesting concepts and some shocking gross videos (one is even made by a man still serving his prison sentence). And some pieces just look like jokes, even for modern art... You’re not warned beforehand of the length of the visit, which can be problematic if you enter the museum in the afternoon. Don’t consider visiting without a audiodescription, it’s not worth it.

Interesting building, Strang art. I was here enough, probably not anymore. Next time I prefer KHM, I understand that art.
