A museum or more of a café with a few former exhibition rooms? A prime example of how you can see how a good museum, led by an old-school folklorist, is transformed into a junk room by his son! Right at the entrance, visitors are greeted by the rainbow flag/LGBT flag and the delicious smell of the café. You ask yourself whether you have really arrived at the Folklore Museum? The staff doesn't know their way around and doesn't know current exhibitions and projects. The noticeboards are amateurishly cobbled together and not even kept up to date. There is also no indication that the rooms on the upper floor of the Schönborn Garden Palace cannot be visited. All doors are open, although interesting to see, have little to do with the actual museum. In many museum rooms there are glasses, bottles and cutlery from the café. The museum area is not separated from the café, every guest can just walk through the museum, even on the way to the toilet! I wonder why we paid the entrance fee of 8Eur per person? We didn't find any trace of the museum concept either! Old and interesting exhibits are randomly provided with “current” examples of refugee belongings and with quotes and sayings from refugees. Old information boards can still be found. However, they have no connection to the new “exhibits”, no explanation or description about them. One can only imagine what the authors of the “museum concept” wanted to express through this. The refugee issue is important and current. In this way totally wrong with the history, tradition, customs and customs. What is also shocking is how the exhibits are handled. Many are freely accessible, exposed to light, moisture and wind. Everything is dusty, dirty and a bit untidy! The smell of the café and the many visitors to the café were more pleasant than the visit to the museum itself! Dear museum management! Please think about what the Folklore Museum in Vienna used to be and what role it currently plays? A café in a museum or old museum remains in a café! It's such a shame!

We treated ourselves to a backstage tour of the folklore museum with a small group. The tour covered the entire house including the garden from the roof to the basement. The nice lady who showed us was extremely knowledgeable and professional! Additionally, she was also very amusing! With passion for the cause, every exhibition becomes more fun! Thank you for these entertaining 90 minutes! The Folklore Museum also offers themed tours, which were highly recommended after the backstage tour. Tip: with the NÖ Card, entry is free - and as often as you want.. 🎊🎉

Certainly more interesting for older people who know a thing or two from before. There are some exhibits that make you think: Wow! Otherwise a bit bland, especially given the relatively expensive entrance fee. The café is nice but it was too expensive for us.

The permanent exhibition is a bit confusing. A great bonus is that as the "first bank - savings bank" you have free entry

Lovely museum detailing the history of the lives of every day Austrians. There is lots to see, but the description could do with being a bit more detailed and clear.

Currently a small but very fine exhibition about "We mean it politically! 100 years of women's suffrage." The tour was very informative and well structured! The little side stories always loosened up the tour and clarified the conditions at the time. There is a very nice cafe on the ground floor, where you also have the opportunity to sit in the garden. It was really a very nice afternoon!

Wonderful place. The souvenirs are especially amazing. Delicate eggs from Slovakia with amazing art. Also, exhibition on Artificial Intelligence in art was an eye opener. English language folders explain all items in detail. Nice.

Unfortunately there was only a small exhibition on the upper floor. The lower rooms, which is why we were there, were all empty. Unfortunately, there is no information on the homepage as to why the permanent exhibition can no longer be visited. A pity. The lady at the checkout was very friendly and entry was free for Sparkasse customers.

The theater in the courtyard was great, another reason to visit this beautiful museum. Of course it only takes place in summer. The actress's name is Linda Pichler, the actor's name is Kari Rakkola.

The Folklore Museum no longer exists!! Only Lukas von Hildebrand's building remains. On the ground floor there is a cafe and empty, partly devastated rooms. A shame for the operators of this building!!

Not crowded, not tiring as it is quite small, lovely garden+cafe, free entrance for kids, walking distance from Rathaus

I know this might sound like such a cliché, but ...I absolutely love this place! This is not like all those fancy-schmancy-touristy museums in Vienna but a real hidden gem! This place tells stories, you feel it when you enter through the round arched doors, there is a small shop to the left and if you continue there is an absolutely beautiful little Bistro/Restaurant further on! Check on their website before you visit - just to make sure what's on permanent display and for info on their temporary exhibition. If you are around in October, check out the annual "Repair Festival" !

Love this place! Small, quaint museum with some startling curatorial inclusions. What do 21st century immigrants and their personal belongings have to do with 18th century Austrian folk life? More than you think. Worth a look.

This a a fascinating place! A museum but more: It’s a journey through time and space of the experience of becoming Austrian. It’s a sensitive view of what it means to land here, of all places, including the exploration of stereotypes associated with new citizenry.

Visited during the "night of the museums". Some exhibition parts are very modern and seem a bit out of place but still have the research to back them up. There is very nice furniture from the western part of Austria in the rooms.

Very nice museum, in a 19th century town-palace, with inner courtyards and old trees.
