So disappointed with this museum. Such a shame for all the people which are interested in psychology. Exepet one woman, everybody was rude. They speak English very bad. We were talking on German. As for the museum, it is not known where the exhibition begins and where it ends and what exactly belongs to the museum. All the visitors were walking around, because there is no one inside to ask him a question. We visitors asked each other questions. All Freud's documents are in German and there is no explanation in English. When I arrived I was delighted, and when I left I was very disappointed.

Nice museum, quite changed after renovation, you can see both apartments used as residence and practice. Unfortunately not many items were left to exhibit, since Freud managed to take many while escaping from the regime. I liked the QR code audioguide but the location of the QR codes are awkward, also the entrance is a bit different

I had high hopes, has this had the potential of being great, but left kind of disappointed. What's good: - The renovation is fantastic. - Easily accessable. - Good if you're not too familiar with Freud's history. What could be improved: - Freud is a very non-conventional figure nowadays, and they skipped over that fact (and the reasons to that) almost completely. - The museum is mostly composed of different info cards placed next to different items. Nothing interactive or creative in any way. - The theories are described in a very shallow way.

The museum had very organized rooms with detailed displays. However lots of the original pieces someone would like to see (like the original treatment bed) are missing and can only be seen in photos. The museum store is expensive and the cafe also. Sure a good place but not on the “must see” of Vienna.

It has many interesting items but it lacks many others that were shipped to London when Freud fled the Nazis. Hence, the museum cannot give you a complete perspective of Freud's works and life but it does a decent job nevertheless.

I don’t know if I am biased as a student of sociology and psychology but I found this museum to be incredibly interesting. It was so amazingly cool to be standing in the same room where Freud probably had all the dreams he went on to write about - and to be in his study where the first psychoanalysis took place! It made it even cooler that the literal mirror he mentions in a text I read for class last term was in Anna Freud’s study. For a person who is interested in Freud and his work this is a great museum, it included a lot of interesting information about his life, his travels, his work and his family. There was a lot of memorabilia that actually belonged to him and even an art exhibition with paintings from for example Salvador Dalí, René Magritte and Pablo Picasso. I would gladly recommend this to anyone who is interested in the father of psychoanalysis!

As a psychologist, I really recommend to visit the museum. There is lot of interesting materials published and shown here. Try to viait museum when itt is not crowded by visitors who gigle and whisper with silly comments abour psychoanalysys. Special thanks to the video showing with personal life moments of Freud shared. Was really able to appreciate the place.

I found the whole experience fascinating. The museum consists of Freud's home (for nearly 50 years) and his practice. The information was all well presented and intuitively placed around the space. There was even a kids version that summarised the function of the room etc. very simply.it took me around 2 hours to walk around. I also found the gift shop well-stocked and interesting and bought the cool coasters. Thank you for a wonderful day.

It mostly covers irrelevant facts about the house, his relatives etc. Most of the museum is all in text, with just a few interesting objects, so a lot of reading needs to be done, that could be read online or on Wikipedia. We left wanting to learn more about the psychoanalysis side.

Absolutely worth visiting if you are interested in psychoanalysis and Freud’s persona! Lots of learnings, beautiful space and great bookshop downstairs. However, a few disadvantages: 2hrs are not enough to see/ read everything. If you don’t speak English or German, chances are high that it wouldn’t be as interesting for you as it was for me. It’s less about place itself, and more about place + capture/ info given. Nevertheless, 5/5.

For those fascinated by the man behind psychoanalysis then this museum will not disappoint. Not only does it touch on his methods and rationale but provides insight to his family and life at his home.

Amazing museum located in the house where Sigmund Freud lived and held his practice. It's descriptive and has many personal objects of Freud. Walk through his living room, bedroom and stand in the spot where many revolutionary ideas were born. It's bigger then expected so make sure to take at least 2 hours. You can buy psychology books or grab a drink in a cafe when you finish the tour. A must visit if you're in Vienna and are interested in psychology or the life of Freud.

Lots of original artefacts of the Prof and Anna Freud, lots, but not too much, information, fairly original atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised. Also, intriguing (partly temporary?) art exhibitions in some of the rooms.

Whether you are interested in psychoanalysis or not, you will find a lot of interesting exhibits and information at this museum. It is well laid out, informative, well kept and relatively inexpensive.

A fascinating experience! Went with only basic knowledge about the Father of Psychology and the place, the conservation of it and the movie his daughter made really, really moved me! I really recommend it, one more must-see while in Vienna.

The museum has quotes and writing in English and German from Freud and few others. I liked the experience but I felt they could have done it better, maybe more dynamic and exhaustive information.

A must go museum for all Freud's fans. The entrance is 14euros, which could be cheaper, with the chance to have discounts for students (but only up to 27yo) and other categories. The museum is quite big and would require a good 2/3h if stopping to read everything, there is also a cafe and a shop on ground floor. The museum itself is Freud's old home and consultation room in Vienna, and has a lot of different objects and decorations that belonged to Freud himself, together with books, audio to listen to and explanations of each room. And a a short movie filmed by his daughter Anna

Not recommended for people who do not speak German, English or who have a vision problem. All the information there is to read. Being in 2022 they could make it more dynamic since it is exclusively reading and for something like that we can search for it on the internet. They have put on an exhibition of paintings to fill in because with so little material and objects from Freud's life and so much reading... the visit is scarce.

There is nothing really to see. The rooms are empty and they have some boards with long texts, some facts that they mention are really interesting but that's about it.

It was very interesting to see his home and how things were when he lived there. You will need a certain face mask to go inside. Probably spend 1 hour here but if your a big fan maybe 2 hours.

Great museum. Especially if one has an interest in psychology or any background in it. Freud’s practice and apartment have been turned into the museum. There are a lot of insights into his work, some copies of his publications and his letters. Nice info bits on his family too in the apartment. Spent lots of time there and thoroughly enjoyed it. Free lockers too provided to store bags and jackets.

An inspiring visit but a pity that almost nothing left because of his forced move to London due to second world war. Empty rooms with meaningful history as mostly imagined on paper and photos.

Wonderful visit… there you will get to know Freud as a person, eccentric, witty, smart, diligent, communicative, passionate …. I was very interested in psychoanalysis but also critical about it, about Freud. But after the visit I felt like I start to admire Freud as a whole person and it gave me goosebumps when I heard him say „ my name is Sigmund Freud“

Very interesting museum. You learn a lot about Freuds work and life. However, I wish it would be arranged in chronological order and decorated with more furniture to enhanced the experience. Also, a recorded audio tour would be recommended. It's difficult to read descriptions when people is constantly walking in front of them. Overall good experience

This exhibition is like reading a book, only you have to do it standing and waiting for other people to move on, so you can read the next chapter. Sometimes I did not have the patience to wait for others to finish, so I skipped a few stations. Otherwise the texts are informative and the museum is nicely renovated.

  • 4/5 Dimitri R. 2 years ago on Google
It is a very nice and completely fresh renovated museum. Many written articles and videos are to see. We missed somehow to find furnished rooms which are like they were when Sigmund Freud was living in that apartment. Beside from that, it is easy to reach: take the metro U2 to Schottentor and walk 6 minutes.

If you’re a psychology nerd you will love it. You get to learn about his family too and more in depth about the range of theories he had (not just the most popular ones). For children the museum would be boring, I’d recommend more for adults.

Studying to be a MD more than 30 years ago, Sigmund Freud was a must learn for Psychological subject and visiting the place were he lived and see some of his belongings, books and correspondences was simply amazing. Thank you for all I have learned and still learning about human behavior

Expected more. Missed background information and better presentation of Freud’s life and his thought process.

  • 4/5 Howard T. 1 year ago on Google
The museum was OK. The atmosphere was kind of sterile as the renovation created rooms with bare white walls. Some attempt was made to place black and white photos in some of the rooms or to paint or paper a small section of the wall with its original colors. But to get a real sense of what the apartment was like, you can get a better feel by looking at the book by Edmund Engelman. The exhibits were a good starting point for anyone wanting to get an overview of his work. However I thought the entrance fee was high given the size of the museum and the exhibits on display.

Don't get me wrong...this is a very well run, very accurate and informative slice of Freud. I would have liked to have seen more of how he lived, his furnishings and trappings. It was a good experience, but ultimately felt like a very long, very detailed lesson on Freud.

I came here in 2003 and recalled a red couch (replica most likely) where Freud did analysis but on 8/18/22 when I visited I didn’t see the couch or any couch. I was hoping to see more actual furniture and belongings of Freud but there wasn’t much. Most were signs made (also translated to English thank you!) of pictures and explanations of some items and friends and family of Freud along with his papers and book titles and excerpts. Discounts are available for seniors and students and kids. But I was a bit disappointed even if it was nice to see the actual home Freud lived in in Vienna.

Very nice museum, I have enjoyed very much the house and the information provided. I could feel the atmosphere. I also liked the library and had some time to reflect over a cup of coffee on the terrace.

Would have liked it to be more organised. Not exactly a museum, more a coffe shop and a book shop with some exhibits and a lot of added text. Interesting nonetheless.

This is a must for every psychologist!!! Visit the house were Freud live and gave therapy!!! Omg! They have value information, I just reaffirmed my love for the profession! #neverforgetfreud

A museum offers a personal experience of how life of Sigmund Freud, his work, his family and work of his daughter, Anna, took place. Very detailed presentation of history of world's first psychiatric society, Freud's carrer path and opus. Personal belongings are also present in various places across the museum. It certainy is a place to visit. However, I would reccomend a broader variety of merchandise products at the shop.
