Amazing idea for a museum! A lot of interesting information is provided and some cool works are exhibited, though the collection could definitely be bigger. Still well worth visiting.

Lovely museum and collection of fakes and forgeries. Provides some great visual examples of forgery and background of known forgers. With the book provided and the art, we took about 45 minutes to go through the exhibition. One of the most unique things I did as a tourist in Vienna.

I am a lover of both art and crime so what better way to indulge both curiosities than a museum of Fake Art? This museum is absolutely unique and jam packed with information on not only the artist but the theory behind faking art. I especially liked how, for most of the art, they had a picture of the original or at least another piece by the original artist for you to compare the faked art to. Some of those painters really knew their stuff! Not only were they able to reproduce the art with near flawless execution, but were also able to show the wear and tear of time! Brilliance! The cherry on top was how helpful and knowledgeable the staff was. When I informed them I was an english teacher in Hungary and was always looking for some interesting reading information for my kids, they delivered in a fantastic way! I'm excited to start a lesson plan about this obscure but nevertheless intriguing topic! Thank you for everything! I'll be back again soon!

This was an interesting museum. The people are nice in you can learn from it. You can’t take photos inside so I will not be able to provide you with any photos. Although the museum is small and the gift area is small and doesn’t relate to the museum as much. It was a cute museum and is different. If you either live in the area are having a long vacation and have a day witch you have nothing in mind, then you could stop by this place.

Fun place. Mostly the stories behind the pieces is interesting so it's a lot of reading, at least for me (do check out the corner with the books for some more reading material and great stories). But if you are well versed in particular artists that have been faked you may get a lot more out of the visual aspect than I did. Definitely worth a visit and the couple running the place are really wonderful

This is what a museum should be - there is very clearly a lot of love and care that went into curating, displaying, and describing this collection of art fakes and forgeries. Not only do you get to see the forgeries themselves, but they are all contextualised with stories about who the forger was, what motivated them, and what impact their works had. I am not a person who usually enjoys art museums, but this museum really made me think about the nature of art and what we consider a "great" artist, because some of the forgeries look indistinguishable from the originals! It took me less than an hour to go through, so if you have an hour to spare, I would absolutely recommend visiting.

Interesting museum, unfortunately very small, and the opening times are not that optimal. But learn a lot of new things.

The museum is interesting for those who love art. There is no audio guide, but there is a book in Russian, which contains a lot of information about the museum.

Most tourists probably come to the area because of the Hundertwasser House opposite. I brought my companion here every time and everyone enjoyed this exciting topic. I find something new every time. Then I buy some of the funny souvenirs in the shop and look forward to the next visit.

Quirky little museum focussed on the world of art forgery. Staff are very friendly and there is a guide book in English.

This is interesting for a niche crowd. I know a lot about art forgeries. So it is an interest of mine. They will hand you a book and you can go downstairs and read it. I read the book and then looked at the exhibits. They are at the tail end of selling the lot of 1980s posters they acquired 20 years ago from an old printer man. I loved them and bought 4 small ones for 30 Euro.

Definitely something different! I find it especially interesting after seeing some of the Originals in viennas other museums. The backstories they provide for the different fakes are very interesting as well. Entry was only 6€ as a student and that was well worth it! You can listen to the guide over your phone if you bring headphones, otherwise you can read it in paper form. They also have a small book-area where you can sit down and read books about Art-forgery and educate yourself in that area which i found really sweet. Definitely a recommendation!

A hidden gem - just a few tram stops outside the centre of Vienna. Really enjoyed the stories and the exhibits - and learnt a lot. Not just for art enthusiasts - a must for all.

Amazing stories, cool gift shop, and easy to navigate at your own pace. Very worth the price of admission!

Really crazy stories about the history of art counterfeit. Can be easily be a Hollywood movie. But, no tours, no videos, only one large room with images and short stories.

  • 5/5 Mady T. 5 years ago on Google
It's a small museum, very very nice. If you like art, you have to visit it to see how it was counterfeit in the past.

A fantastic museum, fascinating stories of copiers and forgers, showing their skill as well as some of their crimes. It’s small but perfectly formed with loads of information as well as the art people have made. Really recommend this alongside the rest of the galleries Vienna has to offer.

This just might be the best museum we visited during our stay in Vienna. We will tell all our friends to visit the Museum of Art Fakes instead of the Belvedere!

Unique information as it’s the only one of its kind in the world. Don’t usually enjoy museums but this was good.

Really interesting small museum with a cool theme and some great fakes. The narratives of the famous fakers in the spiral bound book was great - informative and succinct.
