Wien Museum is a general-purpose metropolitan museum with a wide range of collections and exhibitions – from the history of the city to art, fashion and modern culture, from the earliest settlements to the present day. Because of its general approach and interdisciplinary potential, it occupies a unique position among Vienna’s museums. It has sites throughout the city. Taking the city of Vienna as a model, it explores the general theme of social, cultural and urban change in comparison with other cities. In its consideration of the history of the city and the evidence of the past the museum also takes account of current issues and themes. It collects, studies and reinterprets the objects in the various collections and their significance for our lives. Although Wien Museum is not primarily an art institution, it also deals with art and the conditions in which it is created. Artistic phenomena are placed in their social and cultural context and considered within a broader framework (“art plus” principle). The history of the city and the cultures within it are not regarded as homogeneous processes, and the collection of objects and their exhibition are presented and managed with account taken of the lifestyles, interests and recollections of people of different origins. Collection activities in future will be based on the principles of radical selectivity and significant selection. The collections focus on Vienna and are supplemented by artefacts from the twentieth century. Wien Museum is a repository of knowledge and a public medium. It offers permanent residents, newcomers and passing visitors an opportunity for contemplation and reflection.

Very small museum and not so many things to see. But it's interesting to visit if you are in Prater.

Wow! That’s one of Vienna hidden and not very much known places. Beautiful details. You can see small models of most beautiful and famous parts of Vienna. Fascinating!

There are several carriages showing different episodes from history. In each container there are moving parts which makes history much more entertaining

You can check it out while going for the wheel and learn more about history of Prater. It is interesting to see miniatures of sieges of Vienna and city history but it looks rather old fashioned nowadays. Nevertheless I did liked it.

Interesting museum presenting the history of the Vienna Prater, a wooded park and amusement park. Several exhibits on the 1873 international exposition and rotunda building. Several exhibits on amusement rides. Part of Wien Museum. It’s small. I spent about 40 minutes there.

Didn't give it two stars as I got in free (first Sunday every month), otherwise €5 would be far too expensive. Especially if you compare it to the Naturhistorische Museum for €10. Is ok to have a quick wander around for a couple of minutes, that's it. And as mentioned by other people descriptions only in German.

A very small museum but still really interesting. It has many photos of the Prater in the past and many objects that were somehow used in the complex - either in cafes, used by entertainers, part of attractions, etc. Аll exhibits have descriptions in both English and German. It takes 30-40 minutes to see but it’s definitely worth it.

Nice little museum about the history of one of the largest amusement parks in Europe. It's a shame it's now closed. I'm looking forward to the new museum in early 2024
