The Fire Brigade Museum in Vienna has a long tradition. It was founded in 1901. In 1901, the city of Vienna Fire Department participated in an international firefighting exhibition in Berlin. The costs for the participation in this exhibition were only granted with the condition that the exhibits have to be shown afterwards in Vienna. This is how the Vienna Fire Brigade Museum came into being. The international exhibition in Berlin met with great interest. At the meeting of the judges on 4 August 1901, the first prize was awarded to the professional fire brigade Vienna. It was a gold medal with the portrait of Empress Auguste Victoria. Through this show shown in Berlin, the professional fire department Vienna achieved world renown. This was reinforced in the 20th century by further developments in extinguishing technology and in the equipment sector. The Vienna Fire Brigade Museum is located in the 1st district, in the house Am Hof 7, which is also called Märkleinsches house. It was built between 1727 and 1730 according to a design by Lukas von Hildebrandt. The exhibition rooms are located on the first floor, including a large hall with an impressive stucco ceiling from the first half of the 18th century. After several relocations within the Central Fire Station and the turmoil of the two World Wars, some of the collected items were lost or damaged. In recent years, however, numerous objects have been restored and the collection has been supplemented by the acquisition of new objects. Showrooms: from wooden box syringes to high-tech equipment In the course of the general refurbishment of the buildings Am Hof, the rooms of the museum were also renovated, the space was increased and a barrier-free access was created. A black and white photo of the fire of the Palace of Justice The fire of the Palace of Justice in 1927 In eight showrooms, historical uniforms, equipment, photos, paintings and documents show the more than three centuries-old history of the professional fire department of the city of Vienna. The development from the medieval firefighters with their wooden box syringes to today's emergency personnel with modern protective equipment and high-tech equipment is shown. Historic vehicles Remarkable and tragic events from the history of Vienna, such as the fire of the Ringtheater, the fire of the Rotunda or the Palace of Justice, are also illuminated.historical photo of a fire truck with horses and crew Horses Löschwagen The stock ranges from horse-drawn vehicles over the first automobile fire engine from 1903 to vehicles of the 1970s.

Anyone who is interested in the topic of fire services and their history can recommend the small but fine museum, which has a lot of attention to detail. Entry is free, but keep in mind that it is only open for a few hours on Tuesdays and Sundays. The only negative thing was that it is unfortunately not barrier-free.

Super friendly reception. A free audio guide is available via app. Visiting the museum is also free. The history of the Vienna Fire Department is well covered and there is a lot to discover. A very large collection of helmets was made available by a gentleman to look at. In any case worth a visit.

Small fire brigade museum of the Vienna professional fire brigade. Right next to the historic fire station Am Hof. Admission is free, but is currently only open on Sundays and Tuesdays. Nevertheless, it's worth a visit. There is also a small souvenir shop for the Vienna Fire Department.

Highly recommended (small) fire brigade exhibition. The whole round takes about 1 hour, depending on age and speed. By the way, the firefighters were very accommodating and friendly. And if you ask politely, you'll even get a short tour of the garage where the emergency vehicles are parked.

The children and I really enjoyed visiting the museum. The exhibition is not large, but rich and interesting, which will occupy your attention for more than one hour. But the main thing is that the museum is made by people, and here we were very lucky - we looked at real fire engines and their equipment. Therefore, I want to say a huge thank you to the staff, the experience is unforgettable!

Small but real museum. Worth if you like firefighter theme or have little kids. Museum is actually runned by firefighters, therefore so limited opening hours. But that makes it real! We followed advice in reviews and negotiated us in the depo itself. Kids saw the engines and even were allowed to get into one. And then the duty call came and we saw crew dressing up and go! Excellent impressions for our kids.
