Where Franz Schubert died In Kettenbrücke 6 (former suburb of Wieden, today the 4th district of Vienna) there is a two-story house built by the master builder Reymund in 1828 with a simple facade and a beautiful inner courtyard. In 1828 there was a prominent tenant there: Franz Schubert. At the beginning of November 1828, already very marked by his illness, he moved to his brother Ferdinand, where he died on November 19, 1828 at the age of only 31. His old friends from the Schubert circle only rarely visited his brother. The death room was converted into a memorial room and offers many historically interesting memories of Franz Schubert. His last musical drafts, the last handwritten letter to Franz von Schober dated November 12, 1828, as well as other written evidence are kept here.

(Translated by Google) A touching little museum in an old residential building. Only the walls are memorial, and there are almost no things. But the spirit soars)) A sad room where the composer died prematurely. Very good recordings of his works can be listened to with headphones. There is a beautiful old column in the yard.

Lovers of Schubert will probably want to visit this museum for its historical value, but they may be disappointed by the lack of explanation (in German or English) on many of the exhibits. Visitors can sit and listen to Schubert works through headphones, but the audio quality is not so good. The original mss. are interesting.

Schubert was truely the true Viennese - born, lived and died in Vienna. Even so, Beethoven and Mozart are all over vienna. And Schubert? his last residence opens only 2 days in a week. Very dissapointing.

(Translated by Google) The entrance, the stairwell and the apartment door to the dying apartment are depressing. You can literally smell the poverty of that time. Somewhat loveless presence of the exhibits by one of the greatest composers of all time. Vienna spends a lot more money on smaller things ...

I feel sorry for Schubert. But this was the only place in Vienna where they didn't accept credit cards. So we gave a 50 euro note and the doorman, who didn't make the slightest effort to speak in English, looked at us very annoyed, making us understand that he didn't have the change. Suddenly the rest appears and always gives it to us in a rude way. This was also the only place where my nieces had to show their ID to prove they were under 19 (they're 15 and look absolutely no older). It's a shame because Shubert deserves better.

Schubert's death apartment is unfortunately (for me) the most unspectacular house on the Musikus tour (6 houses of great composers for students 15€) This is the house of Franz Schubert's brother, where he spent his last months. Accordingly, the apartment has little to do with Franz Schubert; the possessions are mostly his brother's. The tour is over very quickly because there are 3 rooms.

Tiny museum in a fairly unexciting apartment by Vienna standards. One for real Schubert fanatics.

Es ist bescheiden, schlicht, kaum Möbel. In seinem Geburtshaus habe ich mich wohler gefühlt. Dennoch ist es interessant.

The terrible museum doorkeeper My sister is very interested about Schubert, so she came to visit the Schuberts death house. The doorkeeper in museum spoke only German and gestured to ask the document what can proof my sister under 19 and problem began. Cause by other museum like "albertina" or " Schubert birth house" my sister showed the photo of passport and got the student ticket, but in here no chance get student ticket without real doc, so my sister bought adult ticket. this is total ok, my sister should take the passport by her, but next thing is too malicious to torelate. My sister found that someone left a piece sheetmusic work as tribute to Schubert on the guestbook(how brilliant talent is the musician has), and would like to make a photo, the doorkeeper yelled at her " no photo! " that's all the English he can !! Here i demand an apology for rude behavior if no legal rule of forbiddance for photo of guestbook !!!

The museum is small, but interesting. If you have a Kulturpass, then 20 minutes from the House of Music is worth it.
