Restaurant Austrian restaurant

😠 The staff was very unfriendly and the food was tasteless. I had high expectations as it was my first time trying Austrian food, but I was very disappointed. The wine was also served in a very dirty cup and tasted bad. I would not recommend going to this restaurant. People often mention good, service, waiter, restaurant, schnitzel, time, city, experience, staff, nice,

Very average restaurant. The prices are a little bit higher based on the quality of the food. The schnitzel was very to dry basically without any particular taste , the potato salad was really well prepared though. The burger was very on their average, and french fries were just okay. Waiters started to be really nice at the beginning , but at the time of paying the bill they were assisting on providing a tip, that was very very strange and unprofessional.

Very friendly waiter and tasteful dishes ! Great place to have typical Viennese dishes and seasonal specialities to drink and eat. Thank you for your amazing Sturm ! I went with my family and everyone was happy with their order and the service.

The waiter seems nice but it is just on the surface. He did not provide us with tap water when we asked for it, arguing that they don't do that in the restaurant (it must be the only restaurant in the city, because we did not have any problem in getting it at other restaurants). He insisted to us in getting the schnitzel, saying that it was the best in the city (it was one of the most expensive, if not the most, dish in the menu). He brought bread that nobody ordered and obviously charged us for it. The worst thing was that he patronised me when I explained to him that we weren't happy because of this, telling me that we should be more aware the next time and be sure before eating it (in Spain you get free bread when ordering any dish). I totally would avoid this place, besides the rudeness of the waiter, the food is average, you will probably find better food in any other restaurant.

I’m learning German but not yet confident enough to know all responses when someone responds to me so I was speaking in English here. When we went to pay the waiter said it was cash only and the table next to us who were speaking German as well said he’s joking and then he came to our table and said he was serious. The table got audibly confused and he said something along the lines of well only cash for them. They all had a laugh at us and it made the whole group feel bad. The food is average and the schnitzel is bad.

I wish I could say I had a great experience here, the food was good but smaller portions than other traditional restaurants, the waiter was awful. It's a very small & cramped place, there are 2 waiters & we were seated but no menus given. Then we were ignored for 40mins! My husband was ready to walk out while the same waiter organised payment for tables next to us on each side, behind us & even cleared tables next to us - never once acknowledging us & ignoring our pleas for a menu. Eventually he came to our table & asked what we wanted, we told him no menus & he slapped them down rudely & walked away. He came back & took our order, food arrived pretty quickly. We both had Veal Schnitzel & it was smaller than other places, tasted good, potatoes accompanying it seemed reheated many times but there weren't many potatoes anyway & a single piece of lettuce was the "salad". When it came to paying, the waiter demanded we pay him a generous tip, argued with my husband who wasn't going to pay ANY tip & held my husband's credit card hostage!!!! The waiter refused to accept his behaviour wasn't tip worthy, expected every tourist to pay him generously when he verbally pressured them. Because we didn't give in he insulted our country (Aussies) & sarcastically told us we'd have a bad time in Vienna (we'd already been in the city 2 weeks & had a fine time). We have tipped generously at other venues when deserving, this guy deserved nothing. I don't recommend this place, frankly ANY traditional restaurant is better than this horrible experience.

I will just say that the waiter wanted to take the tip for himself on his behalf and pointed out twice that service was not included. It was very rude. Food average, prices are higher for this quality. Soup was ridiculous. The atmosphere is strange, there is no music at all.

The food quality was unimaginably low. Everything was fried in a quitr stinking oil evne the bread! The so called warm atmosphere of the place reminds more a pub than a restaurant with such prices. The filthiness of the wc was beyond every hygiene s conception. A bad experience.

DON’T DINE THERE! They ll try to rip you! The waiters appear super friendly but only to trick you into ordering things that they charge separately. If you ask them to correct an order that they make wrong on purpose, they change it but they charge you! The place in overpriced for what it offers and it s just a typical touristic trap.

If you want to order a lemonade and get a juice come here. The waiter will explain you that in Vienna that stands for the same. Caesar salad is in local execution a mix of lettuce, cream, bacon and chicken.

Incredible food!! Meats were so tender and delicious. Flavor was perfect. Even the salads were surprisingly excellent Special shout-out to our server Florian for being such a good host with his recommendations and friendliness :))

Slightly above par food than other places in the city centre, good flavour and profile, and kitchen performance, however unattentive service and lacking in portion given the price. Garlic soup was a pleasant surprise with rich flavourful and creamy texture, I did not expect it to be green with all the herbs but to my surprise it was strangely complementing it. would have preferred the croutons on the side, and a garnish to top off the presentation. Grotsl was a fair performance however potatoes could be crispier, slightly more meat content to enhance the flavour rather than just salt. Maybe it has waited in the window slightly longer and it has become a little bit cold on serving, but generally a good experience with this. Goulash was a better one with a good performance. Although a bit too salty, the dish gave a good flavour alongside good texture of the beef stew. Dumplings were shaped slightly weirdly (guessing cutting corners to save time) like hash browns... but generally a warm and satisfying dish, living up to its expectations. Could be better given the price. Overall a fair performance from the kitchen, with an unattentive service, food was acceptably ok to an austrian standard however if you want a better overall experience, you will find them outside of the city centre.

Excellent food in the heart of town. Staff was rushing a bit but ok and the place itself is a bit plain. But the food was really good and the beer was also really good. Can't complain and definitely recommend it.

We stumbled into this place and it did not disappoint. I had the pumpkin risotto and my husband had fried sausage/ pickled cabbage/ fries. It was so yummy- this was one of my top sit down meals in Austria. The staff were so kind and friendly. This is a place you walk to there is no parking that I’m aware of.

Popped in for lunch after seeing Cafe Central had at least an hour line ... outside in winter. Wonderful food and atmosphere, very friendly staff, local tourists. Glad we went there instead. Had a local wild meat stew and the chefs special of the day. Both delicious.

Walking around the beautiful innere Stadt of Vienna with the only aim to eat Viennese food was very well achieved at Stadtgraben. Located in a prime location. The food and ambience was just perfect. Server was nice enough to suggest his favourite and it did not disappoint. The dish was well seasoned and the cold beer was the cherry on top on a warm summer day. Would definitely recommend.

First try of Viennese restaurant, I think food in overall was good. I'm amazed with the staff's recommendations, including the drinks when we told him that we don't drink alcohol. Service was quite bad though. We entered the shop and no staff would come close to acknowledge your presence, though the other customers were gawking at us as if we're some weird animals in the zoo. Then, when we finally sat down, the staff was slow to come to us. Had to wait for nearly 40mins for food to come, then another 20mins to pay. And yes, the staff just come to you, blatantly saying "service is not included" - asking for a tip when he wasn't the one who served us and obviously he had just taken the other staff's tips for his own. Overall atmosphere was not bad but definitely more of a tavern feeling than restaurant. The price is quite expensive if you're comparing it to tavern food prices. I am happy with the food though we did waited a long time, so overall, a 3/5.

The winner schnitzel was extremely tender, but the potatoes accompanying it were incredible. We also tried the wild boar schnitzel and it did not disappoint, the taste is on point.

Good food, daily menu at very fair price. The menu is very diversified (soup, fish, beef, salads, etc). Beer is also good and they're affordable.

The Dark Beer Goulasch tasted so good and flavorful. The dumplings that come along with the meal were a good addition to soak up all the flavor of the goulash.

Great schnitzel with accompanying very tasty parsley potatoes. Very kind and friendly waiter. Center of city. Don't miss it. Hidden gem of simplicity in Vienna.

An unassuming café/restaurant with a short menu of Austrian fare. Our food was okay but nothing to write home about. Our server started well but then became very difficult to pin down when it came to ordering desserts. He completely forgot the second round of drinks, which was odd as he spent most of the evening trying to ‘upsell’ to his other customers.

Bad service, the worse experience ever!!!! We waited 40 minutes for a beer, we ate without anything to drink and at the end when the beer arrived we told the waiter that we no longer wanted it and he threatened to call the police if we did not pay for it.

Very slow service! We sat for about 15 minutes waiting for the menu, taking into account that the waiters often walked past us on the street. One of the staff was dismantling the appliances very loudly, this sound was on the whole institution. The food was ok, but the schnitzel has more breading than meat. After we finished, we sat for a long time with empty plates and glasses. After we wanted to pay, the waiter openly began to tell us that we need to leave at least 10% for the service, and asked several times if this amount was accurate. We were going to leave tea in cash, but after such pressure, the desire to leave tips changed.

The worst place. The waiter told that if he brings hot water for free for me for my medicine, he will lose his job. Then we didn’t want to eat there but just finish the drink, he told that we must sit not at the table but go to the bar chair. Though the place wa empty. It was very rude. We asked the administrator, and he appeared to be an admin. I wanted to leave the review and this comes the worth - he took the photo of us to post it in revenge, though we didn’t allow to take the photo. And in very rude tone he told us to leave the place. This is the worth place and attitude we have seen ever. No wonder it was empty. This waiter was afraid that bad review will make this business worth. But such attitude to the customers make it worth. Very sorry for the director of such a place that one person ruins his business.

Good food but be careful with extras! We were offered bread which was added to the note. In total, we had to pay 15€ more than what we ordered (water + bread + service for 2)

Overpriced, tourist spot. Food was ok but couldn’t really catch the taste of the meat. If I had another chance to experience original Viennese schnitzel I would try somewhere else.

Food was quite good and sufficient. Only downside. Drinks are priced on the higher side. Also, making the client feel bad about tipping not enough, is not-done

Great schnitzel! They were kind enough to swap out the potato for sauerkraut. Unfortunately the sauerkraut was full of whole peppercorns which I spent ages picking out (-1). Apparently this is normal, but I've never seen it! Would still recommend :)

In overall, a good experience. They take your order very quick and the food is light, healthy and very good. Very happy for that first experience at a restaurant in Vienna !

Small, cozy café where you can also order lunch or dinner. Being in the city centre of Vienna, one can expect quite high prices, but that is not what you will find here. It is quite affordable to have a nice meal, and the service is quite decent too. Only thing to improve - there is barely any choice for vegetarians, as almost all the dishes are meat-based.

A tad overpriced, over 25€ for a simple schitzel, also no receipt was given and the coffee was not available.

  • 5/5 Ivan B. 1 year ago on Google
Cozy restaurant in the city center. Quiet around and an extremely kind service. Traditional dishes: the schitzel is highly recommended!

  • 3/5 Irina P. 1 year ago on Google
Although service was nice, the food did not taste. This was an improvized austrian kitchen. We could not eat 2 out of the 5 ordered courses at all as the meat was very chewy and fat.

Really cozy place to get a drink. Staff was really nice and gave us really good recommendations for the best beer. Prices are the standard so you don't overpay.
