The Römermuseum is part of the Wien Museum and it offers a chance to discover how life in ancient Vienna (Vindobona) was like. The exhibition is interactive and user friendly, combining the classic display of objects with videos and 3D reconstructions of the ancient city. Furthermore, the underground section hosts very interesting and well preserved roman archaeological remains.

Yes it's interesting enough, tiny museum, with some small ruins, the rest is just photos or write ups, large portion of which is only in German. After paying a whopping €7.00 that's just plain annoying. I expected more than an intro foyer, a kiddy playing area and not much to see second floor room. Personally, unless you are as obsessed by Ancient Rome as I am, or a scholar that wants to specifically see those small ruins, I would skip it as it's not even worth €2. Disappointing to say the least.

This is a fabulous museum!! I’ve lived in Tunisia, Croatia, Serbia, and Italy and visited Roman sites in all of them. This is the first time I have ever been able to visualize and better understand the Roman way of life. Fantastic museum and worth your time if you want to learn more about the history of Vienna.

I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Vindabona, the Roman garrison town on the northern frontier, which is now within the Old Town of modern Vienna. It took only an hour or so to see all the exhibits and preserved ruins inside the modern building. I thought the text, infographics and wall paintings were just the right length and held my attention and were beautifully rendered and or designed. Everything was in both German and English. It you love archaeology or Roman history, it is a fascinating must see. It reminded me, on a much smaller scale, of how Barcelona had shared its Roman past.

Roman period in the history of Vienna is shown here in modern, easy-to-understand way. Children can play with replicas or miniature models and there are many excellent digital reconstructions. It is interesting to the scholars, too. Warmly recommend it.

A great little museum in the heart of Vienna built on top of roman remains. The ground floor and upstairs give interesting insight into how Vienna looked when it was a roman Fort, and into how its inhabitants lived, and in the basement you can go under the road and walk around what's left of a few roman buildings. Tickets are also pretty cheap so definitely worth a visit.

Small but interesting, the ruins downstairs are un-ornamented but really show how buildings in the legionary fortress were constructed. It took us about 1.5 hrs to view and read about all the exhibits.

Roman 10th legion built this fort very near the Danube River. Lots of historical details excavated from under Vienna providing valuable insite of life during this period and shows how advanced and skilled the Roman empire was.

Came on first Sunday of the month, free entrance, and lots of family there for educating children, learned lots of background and theories, amazing experience!

This was a bit of letdown considering that Vienna was originally the roman settlement of Vindobona, I would have hoped that the amount of artifacts and roman buildings at least in its foundational state would be more than just a random corner of a building in a desolate state and three pins, one canal. I have to say I was very dissapointed because the museum seemed like the type of museum the government would have built just for us to shut up, it was completely devoid of anything interesting, it didn’t do any justice to the roman heritage of Vienna, and could very well be forgotten if this the only representative.

Lovely place, small but dense museum, curated with care. Totally bilingual too. (With the exception of the story of the excavation process itself) Absolutely recommended.

It was really nice to be able to be able to see and actually touch old roman ruins and learn how they built their under floor heating system. The museum i quite small with 3 different levels, that you could allocate 1-2 hours for your visit to. If you are in a hurry and only want to see and touch some genuine old roman ruins, I would recommend going straight down to the basement and spend half an hour down there reading the signs, and waiting for a horse carriage to pass above your head on the street above the basement, that really gives you a feeling of being transported back in time. The top level of the museum is suffering from bad ventilation and had a bad smell when I was visiting. If you are interested in Ancient roman ruins and learning more about roman society it is well worth a visit. They have a particularly good video detailing how acheductes in ancient times worked from spring to sewer on the second floor.

"Rome" is beneath the city - not really much to see compared to other sites even in the region. The signs were informative but quite dull and generic about roman life.

Interesting very small museum about the Roman garrison in Vienna starting from the 2nd half of the 1st century. The ruins underneath were cool. I really appreciated the mid-floor exhibition on plumbing and sewage! I even really enjoyed the 3d animation movie.

Great little museum that you can easily spend 1 to 2 hours in. We loved the exhibits that included computerized re-creation of what Vienna looked like while the Roman’s were there and seeing the unearthed foundations of Roman houses that stood on that very spot so many years ago. You are also able to see the underfloor radiant heating system they used too. It was cool to see Roman engineering up close.

There is not that much to see here, but if you are interested in the ancient history of Vienna (for example you have moved here), then it is a must. It us very well organized and beautiful. The guide was however telling some stories that were definitely Viennese in their hyperbole though. Entertaining but not all factual.

We had a booked time for a guided tour. The tour was interesting and informative, and the guide did a great job keeping the elementary school kids attention. Small museum, but interesting and interactive.
