GOOGLE DESCRIPTION IN ENLISH IS EXTREMELY MISLEADING. This is a small photo gallery. It’s very nice to see a small exhibit, but that’s all it is. The English description on google says “Museum of cameras & photography, with 40,000 photos & daguerreotypes, plus temporary exhibitions”. It has two large windows of hiatorical cameras, perhaps 100 photos (very nice) and 1 daggeurotype when i was there.

I was there for the Vivian Maier exhibition. Great photographer. Greatly inspired! There were photograph books showed case for anyone to freely look at too. And cameras of various significance in the history of photography are on permanent exhibition too. You can get 2 EUR off if you have a Club Wien card (card is free).

I was here for World Press Photos, and another photo exhibition last year about fake news (albeit no photos). It’s a cute photo gallery, and even without these exhibitions you can see some old cameras and learn about the history of photography. The staff are super friendly, helpful, and down to earth. You can even have a cup of coffee here! This is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. It’s also open at night, which is awesome because you can even enjoy an exhibition after work! Would recommend you to visit World Press Photo every year around September-November! 😊

Went to the Paparazzi exhibition and really enjoyed it. The venue also displays a wide variety of old cameras, and it has a bar/cafe area as well as a small bookshop. I can also imagine going there just to hang out.

I went there twice already to see the "World Press Photo" exhibition, which is absolutely stunning. The gallery has the perfect size, is well lit and has a cute little cafe inside. I know that simply judging the gallery by one exhibition might not be very objective, but this particular exhibition is simply fascinating, illuminating, disturbing, upsetting, ... you see where I am going with this. Go there, see for yourself.

WestLicht. Schauplatz für Fotografie is a museum for photography and photographic art in the 7th district of Neubau in Vienna. In addition to changing exhibitions of important photographs, the museum houses an extensive collection of historical cameras. Since its foundation in 2001, more than 120 exhibitions have taken place in the privately run museum. The programme includes monographic as well as thematic shows on the history of international and Austrian photography. The museum works with the holdings of the OstLicht photo collection and other leading institutions and experts on photographic cultures.

This is more of a mix between a gallery and a museum. On the museum side, there are some notable cameras to be seen, but, when I visited, the gallery was packed due to the world press expo and I could not ask for details regarding the cameras. On the gallery side, is nice, but on the smaller side. Also, depends what is being shown, if that peeks your interest or not. They also have a small place to eat and drink something and a few books that you can buy. Overall, nice experience but depends on person.

Went to visit WordPress Photo. Ticket way to expensive for the what you see abd the way the exhibit is dispalyed. In general poor...also the rest of the museum is lacking a professional or museaum like display because it does not make all the historical pieces justice. Very confusing...

Very well curated exhibits, a lovely in-house cafe/bar, and a permanent history of photography exhibit that is both interesting and digestible.

Amazing place, first class photo books and brilliant photo equipment. I probably could stay there for days, just reading in their caffe with glass of wine or tea/coffee. Highly recommended!
