Where to begin? The food on the menu looks promising however in reality it disappoints on every level possible. The clear beef soup I ordered had the taste of those cubes you make "soup" from and the added cheese dumplings did not taste of cheese. For main I ordered their signature dish The Kuckuck, which was veal with blue cheese in a white wine sauce. The portion was small, the blue cheese overpowering and the meat forgettable. They offered seven, I repeat seven pieces of roast potatoes with rosemary with it. We made the mistake to not look for reviews as we stumbled on this restaurant by chance, as we were hungry after a day exploring the city. They will charge the service fee directly to your bill, which has added another 30% or so to our bill which was an absolute shock after the subpar food. A place to be avoided at all costs.

The atmosphere within this restaurant is homely and authentically Austrian. We found this place after giving up on standing in line for other restaurants in the city centre. The food took longer than normal to arrive but we got a complimentary starter to compensate for this. While my food was great, the second meal we ordered had an extremely salty sauce. We were also a bit disappointed with the fact that despite the fact that the menu said draft beer/on tap, the beer was just bottled and poured into glasses behind the bar by the server, we heard him open a bottle every time we ordered a new beer.

This place was literally 2 steps away from our accommodation in Vienna and we stopped here for lunch regardless of the rating. It was a great decision! The staff treated us with kindness and the food was very good as well. I actually ended up speaking with the owner which is a young man that took over the restaurant not long ago (~1 year). He mentioned that a lot of the bad reviews were gathered during the previous ownership and I tend to believe him considering the great time we had here. Overall, great experience at a reasonable price on a very quiet street of Vienna. Highly recommended!

In my personal opinion, I have had a really good dinner at Der Kuckuck. The waiter was really polite and he offered us an appetizer before our orders. The location brings you in the old Wien, with lots of pictures placed on the walls, plus the cuckoo clocks ( as the name of the restaurant). If I come back to Wien, I will probably return here (maybe with my lady)!

We were looking for a good Austrian restaurant and this place fulfilled all our expectations. The food was delicious and the attention was great. We also loved the cozy vibe of it. If you are looking for a traditional cousin it is a must go restaurant.

Nestled in the heart of Vienna, Restaurant Der Kuckkuck is a delightful Austrian gem that left me thoroughly impressed. The ambiance seamlessly blends tradition with modern charm, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The menu is a culinary journey through Austria, featuring classics like the Wiener Schnitzel that exceeded all expectations. Each dish is a masterpiece, crafted with locally sourced ingredients that showcase the chef's dedication to quality. The service is impeccable, and the owner's personal touch adds a warm, welcoming vibe. The wine selection complements the flavors perfectly. For an authentic taste of Austria and a memorable dining experience, Restaurant Der Kuckkuck is a must-visit. Highly recommended! 🍽🇦🇹

After not being able to get a spot in the busier area's, we came across this place. We wanted to finish our trip to Vienna with authentic food, which is what this restaurant offers. So we asked to be seated here. The interior looked cozy and the atmosphere was nice, although the tables where rather small. The staff was very friendly and helped us make a choice from the menu. It took quite some time to get the dishes to our table (about an hour). But once it got there, it was very enjoyable! The meats were tender and the flavours rich. Afterwards we got a free homemade pudding dessert, because we had to wait a bit long for our main course earlier. Really attentive. Would recommend this place for some authentic dishes and a cozy place just outside the main streets!

My sister and I visited in December . Such a beautiful intimate and charming restaurant with very attentive service. The food was delicious and freshly made to order so there may be a little wait for some, but for us it was perfect..no snip and ping or fast food. We enjoyed all 3 courses and the complementary pre-starter. Well worth a visit! 🙏🥂Susan & Debbie uk Hampshire Oh an amazing old phone …working order too!! And a great wine selection!

We came across Der Kuckuck rather by accident. It is very unassuming and we were not even sure it was open. But we are very glad we tried the door handle! The food is in our view simply excellent. We had for starters a salad and dish of mushrooms with potatoes which were delicious. For mains we had a stroganoff and the kalbsschintzel “der Kuckuck” and again these were very tasty. Sachertorte and a lime sorbet completed the meal. The ambience is very characterful with many pictures of the old Vienna, befitting the long history of the building. We are sufficiently impressed that we’ll make a reservation for a further visit before our short stay here ends.

Nice place and friendly staff, tasty austrian food. but be aware, there will be a price difference between outside menu and price what you would have to pay inside. It is misleading issue.

The beef soup was just amazing - love the flavor and how soft the meat is; also love how they thought you the traditional way to enjoy the dish! Waiters are also very friendly and helpful.

We went spontaneous to the restaurant and got a nice spot to sit. We were 3 people and a puppy. It was the first time the dog went with us to a restaurant. They told us, that they could have her a bowl of beef if we want and gave her a water bowl right away. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty. Also the wine was good.

Awful. We make a reservation -with credit cart- for pre-christmas eve, one month ago, and they CANCELED IT today at 23th. Thank you for destroying our Christmas family dinner at Vienna:)

Excellent! A very cosy place with authentically pleasing atmosphere alluding to 19th century imperial Austria. The menu includes true classics of local cuisine with an ample (but not overwhelming) number of items to choose from. Our food was flawlessly prepared and served and the staff was very pleasant and friendly. The pricing is more than reasonable, considering the Vienna city center standards. Highly recommended.

Quietly tucked away on a side street near my hotel, I wasn't sure it was the right place for me to grab a late dinner from viewing some of the reviews and decor (seemed a bit stuffy and cramped). But it wasn't too crowded, and the "Vienna" dinner special (clear beef soup, wiener schnitzel, and homemade apple strudel) drew me in. The service was quick and friendly, and after a brief bit of confusion about what I was ordering, the food started arriving. The soup was a very good starter since it was cold out and a little damp from rain. It was hot and tasty. The schnitzel was just so-so compared to many others I've had, it just didn't stand out in any way. It came with a side of potatoes which were slightly sweet. The strudel was good, and a lot hotter than I expected, and came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some whipped cream. Overall I'd give it 3 stars for the food and service. Not sure I'd pick this place given how many other restaurants are in the area, but wouldn't complain if someone wanted to go either.

Good service, very good food. We didn't have a reservation and they were full, but they still found a table for two.
